Now that it's no longer April 1st, it's time I posted the art I made for my terrible, no good April Fools joke on Twitter. Let's start with this little guy:

I decided to go with a Splatoon theme for the """joke""" because of the splatfest that's going on at the time. So I drew a Small Fry and called him: Scrungus, He Who Has Every Disease, The Outcast One, Friend to Inkfish

Funny, my very first Splatoon OC is just an original character do not steal with a funny name. But he has no brain cells and he stole my twitter account somehow but he is a good boy, thankfully.

So now, I needed a banner, so I slapped this one together with Scrungus (Sorry, Scrungus, He Who Has Every Disease, The Outcast One, Friend to Inkfish) and his caretaker Octobuddy whom I have yet to give a name with an outfit based partly on my current Splattershot Jr. loadout:

I dunno what to call them yet but I did draw them using my in-game character as reference.

So, uh, yeah, that's pretty much it really. Thank you for your time.

It really irks me whenever I see people who call Side Order's story mediocre.

Like, as I've discussed, there are things I dislike about it, but I feel like on a character level it's so much deeper than anything we've gotten out of Splatoon so far, to the point where I can't help but think you're dense if you think the story of side order is just "you defeat the big evil robot and win the game".

I went down this road of thought because I was thinking about Marina as representation of an autistic person, and how shockingly well it was handled, and furthermore, how relevant it is to the story.

For one, the things that set her apart as an autistic person don't make her out as an outcast, they are celebrated, Pearl seems to actively cherish them, even when she's not able to fully match her level of intellect.

But on top of that, the game is very intimately about exploring Marina's psyche, and confronts her struggles with relating to others without making her out to be asocial because of it.

Most relevantly, the core focus of Side Order is about Marina's subconscious fear of change, something very relatable as an autistic person- that, despite how obvious it might seem to do in retrospect, it was a difficult leap to make, as someone born into a bad situation. It's such a nuanced moral and it says so much about Marina, an obviously autistic character, in such a positive and uplifting way...

Like, not only is Marina the best autistic representation Nintendo has done, I genuinely feel like Marina is the best written autistic character I've ever seen. I know people within the splatoon fandom never stop talking about Marina and Pearl but I feel like outside of the context of splatoon that fact isn't talked about enough.

Cap was about to ambush you, but quickly realized you weren't a threat, so they backed down

(Cuttlefish was still skeptical though)

So now you guys just hang out a lot

You've got claws, so you might've accidentally scratched them at some point if you're clumsy

They don't mind it, though. Just another scar to add to the collection. It's not the worst one they have

Cap is 50% serious and 50% goober, so do with that information what you will

If they're ever feeling down you can give em a hug and that'll instantly brighten their day

Cap and the rest of the Squidbeak Splatoon run tests on you to help understand you and the fuzzy ooze (and to find a cure), but it's nothing extreme, just simple things that probably won't overwhelm you

But yeah you both are honestly glad you picked each other up

Kinda unrelated, but if it's long enough and you let her, Callie would def braid your hair while you, her, and Marie gossiped

Agent 4

You guys met on the outskirts of inkopolis

You're an inkling

You had accidentally strayed away from your fuzzy army and had wandered outside of town, just near Agent 4's house

They saw you in a really bad state, so they were nice enough to take you in, not realizing that you were a 'potential threat'

You two instantly hit it off

4 often talked about their studies in college, and you always helped them since you were quite smart

4, when not engrossed in their studies, is also a goober

Gives you stupid nicknames like "mama/papa bear"

Cuddles are also very much so appreciated

They'd smother you, stuffing their face into your fur

They're your #1 hypeman (or woman)

When you guys go chill in inkopolis square, you usually wore a hoodie to hide your hair

However, 4 eventually got you to come out of your shell and wear it less often

And they will deal with anyone that bullies you for it >:[

But you guys make the perfect team

Agent 8

You guys met over by Grizzco in Inkopolis Square

You're an octoling

They found you hiding near all the clutter, and ever since then, y'all have been joined at the hip

8 understands how you feel and what it's like to be an 'outcast', so it helps to know that

Since you're both octolings, you guys sometimes talk how your lives were in the army

Just like the other two, cuddles are always welcome

8 sometimes calls you a teddy bear when you do it

8 might take you to meet Pearl, Marina, and Acht in the square, to which you thought they were all super cool

It's like a mini friend group

The both of you aren't really big on talking (especially since you didn't really understand inkling all that much), but you talk through looks and touch

You and 8 understand each other, and you're glad you were hanging out by all thay clutter

Neo 3

You guys met in Alterna

You're an octoling

Neo was on a mission and was about to splat you when they realized that you were unarmed and just trying to get out of the level

They took you back to the Squid Sister's camp and, just like Captain, had to run tests and stuff

It took a while for them to like you (since you were considered an enemy)

But they eventually warmed up enough

They're willing to fight anyone who doesn't back off after they bully you about being fuzzy

Tell them your favorite food, they will buy you 4 pounds of it

They weren't big on cuddling first, but now they absolutely love it when you do it

Sometimes Smallfry cuddles with you, and sometimes, he tries to eat your fur, thinking it's a fuzzball

You don't mind it though, you find it quite funny, anyways

Calls you stupid in an endearing way

While it did take a while for them to get used to you, when they did, they couldn't have been a more caring s/o

Hand over some Teruya/Kinji headcanons‼️

hihi! sorry for takin so long on this!! i was doing splatoons grand festival all weekend!!

but yes i can give u some of my thoughts on these guys >:)

adding a read more bc it got a little long whoopsie

ok so first off! my sexuality + gender hcs for them;

- kinji is transmasc and nonbinary (they/he) and he's gay (mlm, nblm, nblnb), his identity causes him some distress due to his role in the church and his father being generally unaccepting of queer identities (he also hides his true identity when at home, hopes peak is the first time hes publicly himself)

- teruya is agender (he/him) and gay as well, he does not struggle with his identity, but he did take a while to realize he only liked boys/non-women. he rly thought his dad wanted him to marry a woman, but it turns out his dad is very pan and doesnt care who he dates as long as hes happy :)

ive got a couple different scenarios that i have different scenarios based on what happens in them and ill just list some stuff from all of em

firstly the general stuff that happens no matter what !

- teruya is initially appealing to kinji simply because he's loud but not in your face about it (usually), kinji also really respects that teruya stands very firm on his beliefs

- teruya also has a really good memory, so he remembers gifts and things that kinji likes, he just gives him stuff he likes every now and then, and kinji finds it really sweet

- teruya also makes silly accessories for kinji, theyre all tacky and rainbow themed but he doesnt mind :)

- they both really enjoy healthy food so they end up bonding over that

- kinji eventually gets adopted into teruyas friend group (haru, satsuki, kiyoka), they got along in the gambling extra event (minus kiyoka), so i think theyd be friends!

- kinji ends up close with kiyoka who can see right through him, she KNOWS he likes teruya, but she wont pressure him (too much)

- also teruya just thinks that kinji is so pretty :)

next up is the stuff i have for the ch 3 survivor au (i will get/have gotten to a lot of this in art, so ill probably have less here)

- teruya is initially stuck with kinji because he is the only one who has medical knowledge (they say this ingame), and due to this he ends up being the closest with kinji

- despite teruyas lil breakdown in ch 4, kinji still ends up defending him in the trial due to having gone through something similar previously, and this is kinda when it clicks for real that teruya might like kinji more than he thought

- they both bond over how much they value family, teruya with his dad and kinji with the church kids being the most valued people in their lives. they both respect this about each other immensely over it

- teruya and kinji grow closer after being kind of outcasted in ch 5. teruya had recently lost his two friends, and tsurugi, rei, akane, yuki, and mikako are either standoffish, not willing to get close, or out of commission for one reason or another. they get much closer in this chapter

- they dont actually become a thing until after they escape

now i have stuff that happened if there was no killing game

- without the killing game, they would just be more of acquaintances longer, since the game isnt there to push them to interact

- eventually kinji is the first to realize he does like teruya, and this causes Internal Religious Conflict for him. being a catholic priest means that you cannot love anyone above anyone else your love must be equal. along with this, if kinji chooses to stop being a priest while in high school, he will no longer be able to attend hope's peak, as he would basically be giving up his title.

- kinji suffers from religious trauma, despite the fact that he finds comfort in his religion. this is because most of the guilt weighing on him is caused by his father, so they are rather estranged.

- this trauma isnt something thats fixed relatively easily, but to keep it short, teruya does eventually try to help him become his own person and cope with the trauma. teruya's free spirit really helps this.

- after graduation, kinji would likely prefer to be a pastor over a priest so he can have more freedom with romance.

- he also ends up working at otori mart with teruya, and they have a lil garden together at their home :)

one more extra thing! topic of marriage and kids!

- in any au where kinji lives, so like all of the above, teruya is intending to ask kinji to marry him, its just whether or not the killing games happening defines if he gets to or not

- when they do marry, kinji takes teruya's last name

- in a very specific branch of the kinji survivor au, which i call foundation baby au (this au hinges on mikado never starting the sdra2 killing game), kinji and teruya have a child (through a surrogate mother, setsuka!) named Takara!

- teruya wants to be a good dad like his father, and kinji already likes to take care of children, so its only natural that theyd want one of their own

- Takara calls teruya "papa" and kinji "daddy"

- they raise takara in a way where they can choose their identity and whether or not they believe in religion. takara has found out that they identify as nonbinary and gay (like fathers like child) and that they do want to take part in kinji's religion, they just dont do it as much

- takara interacts with everyone at the kisaragi foundation in some way, theyre like their big mostly-happy family!

- kinji and teruya are very good parents!!

Don't really have an idea for the au's plot as of writing this, but I'll figure something out soon. Also these bios might be subject to change btw some of this stuff isn't final.

Maya

Ended up in a super rough fight that ended up with her left arm having to be amputated

Likes playing field hockey & doing martial arts (uses hockey stick while fighting sometimes; she'll make modifications to her hockey stick if in a real bad fight)

Overall, she's a bit of a tomboy

Comes from a rich family

Found Zatz to be kinda creepy in her first few encounters with him but eventually warmed up to him

Rico

Artist (specifically likes painting)

Typically uses spray paint while fighting (basically acts as support for his friends by making enemies more volnerable via spraying paint on them)

Does gaming on the side (typically plays games that allows him to be a bit creative with stuff like Animal Crossing and Minecraft but also enjoys Jet Set Radio & Splatoon mainly because those games have a focus on art in some way)

Chimi

Part of her school's archery team (she's one of the best archers on said team) (weapon of choice is pretty obvious)

Social outcast (only friends are the prothecy crew)

Lives with Rico at his place (Chimi was homeless prior to meeting the prothecy crew)

Although pretty brutish, it doesn't mean she's unwilling to get girly (Chimi loves doing Maya's makeup when she gets the chance to do it)

Pichu

Part of his school's football team but doesn't really like hanging out with the rest of the team members

Has trauma from an abusive relationship (parallel to what happened during the village raid from the OG show)

Acts all tough when with the football team but is super caring for his friends

Is more of a hand-to-hand fighter because of his sheer size & the fact that he's had to tackle countless other teams while playing football

Zatz

Aspiring musician (plays guitar)

Is on his school's fencing team (weapon of choice is pretty obvious)

Sort of a social outcast but people aren't willing to admit bro's pretty hot

Huge simp for Maya (eventually goes on to live with her after his dad gets killed)

what if in the bad ending for the yandere 8 au it got out she was lying?

Four would feel very betrayed. They trusted Eight, and she lied to and manipulated them. They obviously break up and rush to find Acht, hoping to apologize. 

The rest of the people who Eight lied to feel similar. The agents are appalled that Eight would even do such a thing, and Captain suspends her from the Splatoon. She might be allowed to rejoin later, but that’s a big might. Four’s family can’t believe Eight would lie to them so easily. They stop all contact with her, and take time to comfort Four. The idols are surprised too, thinking that Eight was incapable of lying. They cut off contact with her as well.

Four finds Acht, Pearl, and Marina, explaining to them that they found out Eight was lying, and apologizing for not believing them sooner. They forgive them, and Acht and Four get back together.

Eight is left as an outcast, shunned for her actions. She does apologize eventually, but she spends a long time angry at all of them, convinced that she was in the right.

Hello againnnn

So I had this one dream of a "Splatoon 4", and i remember drawing some stuff form that dream. I made some idols from it, and after like a year or so, I reworked them again. And now, I think they're pretty much finished, except for some stuff, but here they are!

Azumi

Azumi is a Blue Ring Octopus! They come form a family that lived in the Octo Domes, but they never grew up in it, they were bor nat the surface. They have this big whale tattoo on their back, it's kind of the equivalent to what a dragon tattoo would be.

They're always tired lol. They're relaxed and chill too

Fun fact, I actually had the idea to give them different textured hair before that one blue ring octopus was shown in that yokko band, but after it came out i just kinda went with thisq one lol

Koilin

Linda is a Squid (specie unknown). She was raised by salmonids and lived i ntheir territory since she was a kid, so she's kind of an outcast to the Inkfish world. She wants to learn about inkfish culture aswell as bring more salmonid culture into it

She's the happy one, very energetic but also msot of the time clueless

She can be in water a small amount of time, more than the ordinary inkling

Monieka

Cindy is a sea anemone. She's an engineer and a weapon maker. She's special in the way that she has no fish following her, she never had any. It's kind of seen as weird by other. When people ask her why she has n ofish, she tells a different story each time to look cool, but it's usually something about her killing it or eating it lol

She has her own solo career, as she started music way before the other two. Sometimes she leaves the band for a bit to focus o nher own work.

She's hot headed and impulsive

Her skin tone changes a bit to the color she's dyeing herself to

And that's them! They're a group of misfits who fit together! They each have a different style, which makes their music kind of different. Their music style would be smth like electro swing and jazz, but in a pop-ish way

even from the beginning, she was a pacifist. unless it was necessary, she wouldn’t fight. she was admonished for her pacifism and other behaviors in the army

eight's goggles were frequently lopsided because she was too young for them to fit her face.

her parents didn't have much (with the whole energy crisis thing) but they did their best, and eight was happy.

in fact, eight's mom (aoi) was a genius engineer, so she'd make her cute little robo-toys and such, and her dad (goro) was an extremely strong soldier who'd tell her stories of his accomplishments in the war

though a (mostly) happy child, she was shy and even a bit sad at school, where she was seen as an outcast. her dreams of peace and going to the surface were only met with laughter by girls her age

right before the fight against agent 3 (which i'll explain in a bit), she saw a fellow soldier (about 16 years old) get shot in the head point blank from a charger. another soldier was trying to escape, and she shot a charger with different-colored ink. this was during a power outage, so no respawn machines worked. eight has very much repressed the memory of seeing a dying soldier be wheeled away on a stretcher.

in fact, she had to witness a lot of horrors in kettles. even if the respawn machines worked, the sights weren't pretty.

the fight with agent 3 was brief—just a quick spar since 8 was drafted to aid octavio in stopping 3. it's never said who attacked them, but hear me out: a sanitized octoling. kamabo co was a thing during the events of splatoon 1, and the attack happened because commander tartar's army was small and just getting started. hope that doesn't sound dumb.

anyway, 8 was kept in a tiny (sort of cramped) hospital, and during this time, tensions were higher than high. the octarians had lost every zapfish and were struggling to keep things together.

about a day before 8 woke up, things straight up fell apart, and she ended up in the deepsea metro throughout the ensuing chaos.

she wasn't mute before escaping the metro, actually. she'd mutter things in octarian (usually swears) during inconveniences.

she slept on the metro between testing and never had any idea what time it was.

she sees iso padre as a kind of father figure and cap'n cuttlefish as a grandfather (y'know, after he de-racismed.)

Alright, if you don’t mind, I have something I wanna talk about:

Life lessons I’ve learnt from my hyperfixations!

Whether the characters, the story, or the game itself had an impact on me, most of the things I’ve had massive focuses on have taught me something, and I wanted to share a few with you all.

1. The Wings of Fire Book Series

For a fictional dragon book, WoF has some incredibly complex character designs and creative ways of expressing them. The first ever writing project I started was inspired by the main cast of the second saga!

But I got more than just inspiration from these books: I learned that

You should never hide who you are, and that you should fight to be safe.

Never let others scare you into becoming something you aren’t, like Peril. While her Fire Scales might have been the one thing keeping her away from others, she learns that without them she’s not the dragon she should be, and just a shell of herself.

Another one, but less of a lesson:

You can write a good brainwashing story from the victim’s perspective.

The whole second half of Escaping Peril is a brainwashing plot, and it’s thrilling to see a sudden change that the victim doesn’t even notice. Believing everything is alright, losing her memories, and falling back to her previous allegiances… it’s just a good read overall, and the series is incredible.

2. Terraria, specifically its modding community

I bet you’re asking, “what kind of lesson can you learn from a game like Terraria?”

And I have 3 simple answers:

Your fears aren’t a force field, but a wall.

The first time I played Terraria, and for almost 30 play-throughs after that, I didn’t even TOUCH the Crimson. The Blood Crawlers, the creepy background, the eerie music, all making an environment that I just felt off about. But eventually, I took a risk, and made a Crimson world. It did not go well.

I’m not saying your fears are an illusion and shouldn’t be acknowledged, but that with enough work, you can overcome them. With enough power, any wall is just a temporary obstacle. After another year or two of subtle exposure to the aspects of the Crimson I hated, I had the courage to try again. And wouldn’t you know, it all worked out.

Number 2:

Canon Lore is a suggestion.

While there is a blueprint, if you know what you’re doing, it’s possible to make a lore suggestion so good that it fits canon better than canon itself.

For example, I made a suggestion in the Calamity Mod’s official discord server regarding the lore behind the Mechanical Bosses, and it stuck. It might be different now, as it was a while ago, but for that moment I felt good knowing I had made an impact on the community.

Number 3:

Be the change you want to see.

Why wait for someone else to make something you want when you can make it yourself?

I always felt as if the crafting trees for things like the Zenith, the Ark of the Cosmos, and other things were too simple, or had too many lengthy breaks in progression. So, I started work on a mod to flesh those out. It may not be done, but it’s a work halfway in progress, and I’m sure it’ll be excellent when I finish.

3. Splatoon

Here we are, the big one. The one that’s been with me for… what, a decade now?

Well, not quite, but you know what I mean.

Anyways, it’s been a long time, and in that time I’ve learned a few things, from the game itself and from the community, starting with…

While cliché, the power of friendship can be a really strong idea.

Take Callie and Marie into account. Their bond, both friendly and familial, has lead to some of the best character growth throughout the series. Take the whole Villain Callie arc, where their bond slowly degraded just to come back stronger than ever! And they treat each other with respect, now that they’ve recognized what they lose without each other.

Off the Hook is another great example. You take a rich girl, raised in near seclusion with an estate larger than all of the major cities, and with a special gift that would make her an outcast, and a military elite with incredible tech know-how, a desire for freedom, and a craving for order and permanence, and you combine them. It sounds like a bad mix, but Pearl and Marina have some of the greatest interaction dynamics I’ve ever seen. While separate, they have their charms, but as you see in Side Order, they can hardly hold themselves together without each other. And I think that’s beautiful.

Another thing:

You can only succeed if you fight for what you believe.

Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean throwing hands, but it does mean never giving up until you accomplish your goal.

And this one goes out to @dr-spectre , who, in his infinite Callie-fueled passion, has lead me to become a more enthusiastic person about defending what I believe. Without him, I wouldn’t have even begun to try and fix the Inkipedia articles about Callie, I wouldn’t have started planning a potential “coup” for Callie, I wouldn’t have even dedicated myself to the fanbase the way I have.

And I doubt I would have even turned Seawyd from a stupid OC made just to simp for Marina into an actual character with flaws, imperfections, connections, and most importantly, beliefs without this man’s help. So thank you, Specter. With all my heart.

And speaking of hearts:

4: Kingdom Hearts

Ah, yes, the game with notoriously complex lore and thousands upon thousands of retcons. My dearly beloved.

To keep this section short, I’m not gonna go into insane detail because god knows I’d start ranting about Roxas and the nobody system and the fuckin Recusant’s Sigil-

Anyways,

Spiderweb Lore can actually be fun, if you explain it correctly.

Complain all you’d like, but Kingdom Hearts lore is actually decently designed. While several loopholes do happen, stemming from or leading to completely random happenstances, those are decently rare. And more often than not, the lore explains itself through backwards mannerisms and cause-and-effect scenarios.

Take the world “La Cité des Cloches” from Kingdom Hearts: 3D. Based off of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, it contains quite a few moments that really help you see the inner workings of the series. For example, Quasimodo and Sora talk about the limitations of an enclosed Heart at the end of the world’s story, and the cutscene helps explain the concept of Hearts as a whole quite well.

Of course, not everything does it this well, which is why so many people complain about KH lore and its complexities.

I don’t have much else I can say without getting mad, so:

5: Psychonauts

The first thing I ever classified as a hyperfixation. The story, the characters, the music, and the gameplay roped me in and refused to let go for way too long. And I learned quite a bit about myself, just by looking at the other characters.

Follow your dreams, even if others discourage you.

Razputin Aquato, simply referred to as Raz, is a young boy who dreams of joining the Psychonauts. So of course, he trains his psychic powers behind his parent’s back, because he was raised to hate psychics due to them cursing his family to be attacked by a hand from the water whenever they got close. He eventually runs away from the circus his family runs, ending up at a psychic-kid summer camp.

As you progress through the story, you get to see Raz grow, fighting the fears and emotional complexities of others while struggling to fight his own. Eventually, at the climax of the story, he fights off both an evil representation of his father and the father of Coach Oleander, and learns that his own father is also a psychic when he enters Raz’s mind to help fight Raz’s misbelief about him. After the success of the two, Raz is given the role of Psychonaut, and is immediately sent on a mission.

Raz, despite the obstacles in front of him and inside of him, never stopped believing and ended up becoming what he always wanted to be.

And finally:

Helping others can be rewarding, both mentally and tangibly.

While you might not be able to enter someone’s mind and cure their depression or PTSD, you can definitely help an old lady cross the street or a friend with moving house. And doing so can give you that warm feeling of being good, or even something more than just a good feeling.

Of course, it shouldn’t be EXPECTED that you be rewarded physically, but it could be a possibility.
