What I can't get over about spore is how nearly everything on a grox design with the exception of their sharp teeth points to a little prey babyguy. Their big wet side-set eyes, the big ears, the small stature, the coat to blend into surroundings, the utter lack of natural weaponry on their body. While lore states the grox are a robotic race (or at least cybernetic) and also the single most aggressive race in the galaxy, I propose that they were never actually meant to be this way. They're functioning off of prey anxiety hardware with pack predator software manually installed by their tech bits.

That is a rabbit, and you've strapped a machine gun to it.

Mouthgroxing - (Mouthwashing, but grox)

Here’s the refs of everyone, fur patterns and all. They’re all Daybreak-style Grox, which I thought would not only be a fun exercise in character designing, but semi-fitting.

(Daybreak is a comic/story by @grox-empire, these designs were directly inspired by her art)

The first two drawings were mostly conceptualizing the designs, hence why they’re a little odd-looking. The finalized designs are the ones in the massive reference image. Yes, that one image did devolve into just folding in on itself about my views of Curly, oops.

Anyways, Mouthwashing is a good game I like a lot, which of course means I must froth at the mouth over it, mix them with other things I like, and draw it ad nauseum. Enjoy

Look who got a redesign! She’s got a fresh coat of paint and some brand-new cybernetics :)

Vanda and her batch-mates were engineered by their commissioner to be a striking purple, the rarest coat color amongst the Grox. While they may look to be designer features, her red irises weren’t a purposeful customization. They are dilute eyes, a trait shared by all grox carrying dilute genes. Dilution turns red fur pink and orange fur yellow, but leaves purple coats unchanged. You can see a subtler example of dilute eyes on Kistah’s reference.

Beyond the immobile nub at the base of their spines, a grox’s tail lacks any internal structure. Most of what you see is made up purely of hair, either shaped through natural length and texture or cut and styled to suit individual needs and preferences. Vanda’s tail is long enough to be an inconvenience to her, so she usually keeps it tied up and out of the way.
