Helloooooo
Could I please request Narrator x a cheery sunshine-y reader? I feel like that'd be a silly dynamic
☆ Light In a Labyrinth — Narrator x Cheery!Reader HCs ☆
Genre: Fluff || they/them pronouns for reader || No warnings needed
Tumblr media
──────.𖥔 ݁ ˖˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ──────
ᯓᡣ𐭩 The Narrator really didn't understand you at first. He didn't understand Stanley, for all his stubbornness and flippant vengeful streak, but he somehow felt more confused by you. For as much as Stanley complained about his stories, it was... rather nice to have someone with more energy, but it took him a while to be accustomed to the change of pace
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He made an obvious point to Stanley about how this is a protagonist should act several times, making comments to imply favoritism towards you or even endings catered to you to follow this. Despite it being a ploy to poke fun at Stanley in the beginning, Narrator comes to find he enjoys seeing you so delighted by the attention
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Even if his attempts to goad a jealous reaction out of Stanley fail, he finds your energy rejuvenating. Having someone who can actually appreciate him and all the effort he puts into his endings felt like a welcoming balm to the built up undercurrent of bitterness he had with Stanley at times
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He does sometimes direct his snark to you, if he's in a particularly bad mood or feeling pissy. Stanley reassures you that this just happens, and it's best not to take it too personally. Even still, the first time it happens, you talked to the ceiling corner, trying to console the omniscient author the best you could. He eventually gave in with much grumbling, noting through rustling papers that he'll continue the story just for you
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Narrator tends to fuss at Stanley if he accidentally leaves you a step behind or tries to accomplish a task without you. He insists that it's because his protagonists need to cooperate for the story to work, but he also compliments you in particular after each task completion or successful run
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He absolutely eats it up if you compliment anything about him or his work, even sometimes fishing for positive feedback when asking you for your opinion on a setting or twist. You can hear him chuckling and can practically feel the pride he holds for himself whenever he responds
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Over time, it shifts just a little. Your positive comments are always appreciated, but he starts tripping over his words a bit when hearing them, or stammering a little during narrating. It confuses you at first, and you worry if you're somehow upsetting him. So you keep it up a little longer, trying to lift his mood. When the devolving only gets worse, you feel a little bad
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Once Narrator tries speaking to you for reassurance, you're able to slowly piece it together. He'd begun getting rather flustered at your feedback, feeling all warm and giddy by it. He assumed it was just pride in his own work at the beginning, but as the resets went on and on, the feeling only got stronger during each talk you shared
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Of course, he'd brush it off and deny it heavily if ever asked about it directly. He'd go on a droning rant about how he was just finally getting the recognition he always deserved, and it was rather rude to ask such things in the first place, thank you very much, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with knowing his work was up to snuff
ᯓᡣ𐭩 It became embarrassingly obvious at a point, despite Narrator's constant claims of denial. He'd notably melt when you made a word of approval, and the sappy cooing easily became a bit grating on your fellow protagonist companion. He bears through it, as at least then Narrator isn't picking on him again. You get the best reactions from Narrator in moments like these, where he slips into letting his guard down and nearly admits quite a bit before abruptly covering himself with witty snark to hide his feelings

“Oh, how pitiful. You just couldn't help yourself could you?”
Even while locked away in the broom closet, he found you so easily
Pressing your back into the rusting and dusty shelves to steady yourself as you continue to pump your fingers into your dripping cunt
Your panties are already a sticky mess, much like your hands and thighs are now as well
Pressing your palm flat to rub over your throbbing clit while you stuff your messy cunt with your fingers
“Easy now, focus on me. Slow down.”
His tone was stern yet gentle making you comply with his requests almost immediately
Slowing your movements as you focused on him and him alone
“Faster.”
Blindly following his commands, you speed up again
“Take them out.”
You listened like an overly eager and obedient puppy
Craving any sort of praise from the voice ringing in your head
“Good. Focus on your clit, slowly now.”
You brought your sticky fingers up to your clit, working the pulsing bud in slow circles
Your body buzzed with the pleasure, yet it wasn't enough
He could tell, the way your thighs twitched and closed around your hand gave you away too easily
“Use your fingers.”
Your legs nearly gave out as you pushed two fingers in, searching desperately for that one spot that would end this routine of torture
Constant. In, out, slower, faster

Deadass came up with this in the middle of the night. Decided to post it this morning. Opinions? :3
(Narrator x Glitch! Reader, enemies to ???)
At first, Narrator hates you. He's curious, sure, but- ultimately- he just hates you.
To be fair, you're a glitch. You shouldn't exist. A mistake in the coding that he can't fix no matter how much editing he does.
Imagine your breakdown when you realized (and eventually got over) the fact that your life was a game and also a complete accident. Lol.
Plus the fact that Narrator is constantly trying to delete you. How fun. :D
Oh! And you make the biggest messes!
It's not like you intend to... Well, at least not the first time.
The second time was just to piss him off.
You two hate each other.
Eventually Stanley started up the game and you stood aside to watch for a few routes, to Narrator's relief and suspicion.
You got bored, tho, and started to interfere.
Stanley liked you!
Narrator despised you further.
Your squabbles grew in quantity. Stanley would mentally compare them to an old married couple.
During a particularly bad one, Narrator looked away from him for a second and that's all it took for Stanley to find a weak spot in the game and fall through.
Colossal freak out. Both of you.
Narrator couldn't get him- "human" (for lack of a better word) form, disembodied voice, or otherwise- so you two had to team together.
Not even begrudgingly at the time, you two were to focused on getting your wayward son.
Narrator told you what to expect on the other side and you glitched through.
It was really freaky outside of the map.
You eventually found Stanley though! :3
As soon as you brought him back, you two were nagging him just like the parents y'all basically were.
A developer came around to check the code after hearing of the incident.
Did Narrator hide your existence from them? Yes. So you wouldn't be deleted? No, of course not! It was only to save his pride! What type of expert game maker would mess up so bad as to make a glitch?! Surely not him!
Did you ever find out? Also no.
No reason to pointlessly stress you out, after all. He knows it's an anxiety of yours, you're so obvious with it (but he'll never approach you about it, no, absolutely not).
He doesn't care, though.
Right? Right

OH MY GOSH!! (Headcannon request for reader/narrator)
Request for Reader to have gotten better (going to therapy, having better friends, etc) while the Narrator was gone (offline or whatever)
*STARES AT YOU*
I missed you!!!
given the gap that's happened between this reply and the last time i did a headcanon, it felt really fitting to doing this one first <3
i'm a little rusty, but here goes!
Reader has Gotten Better
The narrator suddenly blinks awake. He's been resting, he realizes. How long has he been gone? He gets up and stretches, and then comes to another realization. He's been resting under a tree of some kind. He chuckles, and then gets to his feet, searching for you. The two of you will have lots to catch up on!
It takes a while, but he finds you. His heart softens. His eyes mist up as you begin to tell him all of the things you've been up to since he's been away.
He rests his hand on your shoulder, and begins to speak.
"My goodness, reader! I must say, you've done wonderfully. This is cause for a celebration." He goes off on a tangent about throwing an actual party, and what sort of a party hat you might look good in.
But he stops, eventually. He takes a deep breath, and then starts again. "I... admit, I was somewhat worried that you'd- well. Move on. As excellent as my company is, my absence has been rather long. It would be understandable if you had chosen to... choose someone else."
His smile brightens. "Yet here you are. And oh, how you've grown. You're standing taller. Shining brighter. Almost as bright as the guiding narrative light I produce on a daily basis." He finishes with a wink.
"You're truly remarkable, Reader. Strong and bold in a way that is uniquely your own."
"A very long time ago, I said, 'someone, somewhere, is proud of you.' Of course, there may have been some dialogue after that, who knows?" He waves his hand dismissively, pretending he's not sheepish.
"Allow me to repeat myself again, but more directly. I'm proud of you. So proud. You've set goals for yourself and achieved them. This is not an easy task, with the world being in such a dark and difficult spot. Well done."
He stands up to his full height, which may or may not be impressive, depending on one's perspective. "Come along, Reader. There are many stories and ideas to discuss."
His eyes sparkle. "Let's begin again, shall we?"

snap out of it
pairing: The Narrator/Reader (can be platonic or romantic)
reader's race & gender are ambiguous; no pronouns or physical descriptors are used.
summary: The Narrator's voice buzzes in your ears, but the words he utters are meaningless. You’re too overwhelmed and fatigued to pretend to understand his mind games. You settle for burying your head in your hands and closing your eyes, attempting to distance yourself from everything.
word count: 1.3k | ao3 version
Tumblr media
warnings: canon-typical derealization, panic attacks, hyperventilation
author’s notes: This is not my best work. There, I admit it. It’s a bit rushed. But I wanted to post this, sue me.
Tumblr media
You’ve explored the office countless times. You’ve gone left, right, down, up… You’ve followed and ignored the strange man’s directions… You’ve searched every nook and cranny of the building. But you still haven’t found a way out of this nightmarish cycle. It doesn’t matter where you go or how you get there, because you’ll always end up back at your desk, staring at a blank computer screen. Lately, it's been growing harder and harder to make sense of your spiraling thoughts. After all, doing the same things over and over again while expecting different results… is just insanity.
Throughout the time you’ve spent here, a man’s voice has been following your progress and narrating your decisions. At first, you thought he was imaginary; you quickly learned that wasn’t the case. Somehow, he has control over the physical environment: he's able to manipulate the building at will, creating doors and corners and endless hallways out of nowhere. You would only be able to escape if he wanted to, and it soon becomes clear to you that he doesn't ever want you to walk free.
You sigh and tap your fingers restlessly on the keyboard in front of you. Above the comforting hum of your computer, The Narrator’s darkly amused voice reverberates in your ears. “Oh, come on. Did you actually think that someone would love you?” You shudder at the memory of his cruelty, of the way he commandeered your existence with such ease. After all, you’re in his story, aren’t you?
Speaking of The Narrator, he must be growing impatient with your stationary position, because he soon launches into his typical introduction. Yet you remain frozen at your desk, unable to get yourself to move.
“Stanley has to do something,” he reminds you in a few seconds. Ah, that’s right. Your name isn’t Stanley. It was never Stanley. But The Narrator seems insistent on it, for reasons you can’t quite elucidate. The nickname is the least of your concerns, at this point. You still have no idea how to get out of this place. Taking a shuddering breath, you rub your hands over your face and stare at your computer. You’re not sure how long you’re sitting there, but the time seems to drag on nonetheless.
“Stanley is unaware that a refusal to act will accomplish nothing,” The Narrator remarks smartly. If you had more energy, you’d roll your eyes. All you can manage is weakly bringing your hands up to plug your ears, desperate for some solace. You just want to be alone in your thoughts.
But The Narrator is persistent, as always. “Stanley also thinks that my voice can be blocked out, somehow.” You can almost see the smile he must be wearing on his lips. Something unsettling prickles along your skin. “But no. Stanley can still hear me.”
You take another breath, discovering the effort is a bit more difficult than normal. You close your eyes and focus on your breaths, attempting to calm your racing heart. But it doesn’t still.
“Come on, Stanley,” The Narrator implores, a hint of desperation leaking into his voice. It’s the first time he’s shown genuine emotion in a while. He’s quick to resort to dry wit or sarcasm, disguising his real feelings. But it sounds as if he’s frustrated. “Get to your feet. Explore the building. Jump out the window. I don’t care! Just do something!”
The Narrator has shown unwavering persistence before, but now, he almost seems to crumble in the face of your silence. “It appears Stanley isn’t listening to me,” he sighs defeatedly. You feel a headache growing in your temple, especially when he just refuses to stop talking. If there’s one thing you’ve learned about this omniscient man, it’s that he likes the sound of his own voice. “Whether it’s out of spite or a lapse in attention, I can’t be sure. Although… I must say, I’m rather curious. Stanley has never been so still before.”
Admittedly, his detached observations never fail to unnerve you. It’s as if he sees you as some sort of specimen under his microscope; a plaything manipulated for his entertainment. You are nothing more than a character written into his story. You have no agenda of your own, instead falling prey to whatever plot devices he creates. You feel nausea climbing up your throat at the recognition.
“We’re at an impasse here, Stanley.” The Narrator says gravely. There is no humor or condescension in his voice. “The story cannot advance unless you will it to. As much creative direction as I have, I am utterly powerless when it comes to initiating the story.” His voice buzzes in your ears, but the words he utters are meaningless. You’re too overwhelmed and fatigued to pretend to understand his mind games. You settle for burying your head in your hands and closing your eyes, attempting to distance yourself from all of this.
You sit there for a long time—long enough to realize that The Narrator doesn’t have any dialogue left. Finally, you’re greeted by silence… but it’s weighed down by the pressure on your shoulders, and the unshakeable knowledge that there is no escape from this building or this dreary existence. Your breaths are growing choked and hurried now. You clutch at your chest—as if that will do something—and gasp. Suddenly you’re on the ground, against the wall of your office as you stare at—no, past—the door.
“…Stanley?” You’ve never heard The Narrator sound so uncertain before. Now there are hysterical laughs crawling from your chest, interspersed with far too quick breaths. The lights above flicker and you laugh disbelievingly to yourself, putting your shaking hands over your ears again.
“Try to breathe.” The Narrator’s infuriatingly calm voice only irritates you further. Right, because I hadn’t tried that already, you think to yourself wryly. But then he starts to count, guiding you through inhaling and exhaling, and your breathing slowly returns to normal. Suddenly, you’re able to notice the slight strain to his voice—as if he’s concerned about you. It’s a misguided thought. A foolish one. But you’ve been alone in this office for so long now—you need someone to latch onto, even if they only pretend to tolerate you.
“It’s okay.” The Narrator’s voice cuts through the renewed silence. “We can take a moment. We’ll get you to the employee lounge, where you can just rest. How does that sound, Stanley?”
My name isn’t Stanley, you think to yourself. Then you frown at the suggestion. The Narrator is many things—merciful is not one of them. You’re not given much time to ponder that thought, as you blink and suddenly find yourself standing in the employee lounge. Another blink and you’re reclined on the couch. You’re too tired to attempt to puzzle out just how that happens. Hardly anything that occurs within these walls makes any sense to you.
Before you can lean back into the couch, you feel a phantom weight on the crook of your arm, as if someone is placing a reassuring hand on you. Then there’s a scratchy blanket thrown over you, and the comforting warmth of a hand cradling your jaw.
…Is The Narrator attempting to comfort you? If that's really the case, then you’re not sure if his efforts are working. But you’re exhausted, so you’ll take the momentary reprieve—regardless of the danger it may pose. After all, falling asleep in front of The Narrator would mean you’d be showing him complete vulnerability—something you’ve fought to hide from him thus far.
But your fatigue has grown overwhelming, and you find yourself succumbing to the darkness in spite of these fears. The Narrator’s voice grows farther and farther away, until it’s imperceptible. Although, you don’t think you need to hear what he’s saying: the brush of a thumb against your cheek, wiping your tears away, tells you all you need to know.

──────.𖥔 ݁ ˖˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ──────
Fresh out of a story run, you and Stanley had decided to head to the employee break room. You definitely both needed it, in the last run of the story the Narrator had been particularly uncooperative. So, in a fit of indignation, he was leaving you two be for the moment. Which only created one problem— without a story to follow, there wasn't much to do. Narrator only gave you two extra items to play around with on a good day, now it was just the two of you and the vending machine that didn't work.
You huffed a deep sigh, leaning against the table. You could always trash stuff or something like that, but it didn't really strike your interest today. You glanced to the blue couch on the other side of the room, then to where Stanley was doodling on a napkin with a spare pen he found. You slid over, trying to peer over his shoulder. He turned a little to hide the image from you, and you chuckled "Sorry, sorry". He huffed a little, using his hands as a guard to keep up the work. You draped yourself over his back, head leaning against his "Got anything you wanna do besides this mysterious art?"
Stanley shook his head. You sighed, keeping an arm around him "Still tired?". He nodded. "Yeah, I get that" you replied, drumming your fingers against his back while you thought. After some minutes, he leaned back, stuffing the napkin in his pocket. You leaned off of him, and he began using his hands to sign to you. Narrator had implemented captions to translate what was being said so you could understand better. ['You think he's gonna come back soon?'] He asked you. You gave a shrug "Who knows, this is like the third time he's left in a row"
['Right. But now we're just sitting here'] Stanley replied. "Aw, come on, there's gotta be something" you said, looking around. Your eyes landed on the blue couch again. You glanced back to Stanley, before gently taking hold of his sleeve, tugging him in that direction. Though visibly bewildered, he followed suit, keeping step with you. You let him go once in front of the furniture, sitting down with a heave flop. You scooted to the far end, kicking your feet up to lounge back. "Might as well make use of what we have. Take a seat" you said. ['You're taking up the whole couch'] Stanley signed, his expression showing his mild frustration. Without waiting for an answer, he gently pushed your legs off his spot, sitting beside you.
You chuckled as you scooted up a bit to make some room, before seeing the fatigue that clung to the primary protagonist. It was in the way his shoulders slumped and his back leaned into the cushions. His expression was also mildly troubled, brow furrowed and a small frown present. Your grin faltered, concern on your face. "Hey, you feeling okay?" You asked. Stanley just nodded. You gave a small hum of worry, unconvinced. You inched closer to his side, wrapping an arm around his shoulders "Come on, lay down, take a break" you gently insisted. ['But there isn't enough room-'] Stanley signed in reply. "Stan, you can lean on me. It's okay" you responded. Stanley hesitated.
['Are you sure?'] Stanley asked. "Hey, how many times have I fallen asleep on you?" you asked back, not waiting for an answer before continuing, "I don't mind, I promise. You need it anyways". Stanley thought it over, before scooting in. He waited for you to lay back before resting atop your chest, arms slowly snaking around your waist to press you close to him. He closed his eyes, letting out a soft grunt as he hid his face in the crook of your shoulder.
You pat his back, rubbing up the length of it before sliding back down. You added your nails in eventually, very lightly grazing his back with them. He went limp in your hold, muscles relaxing and frame easing. He nuzzled you just a bit, using you as a grounding touch while his mind slips away from him. The last you hear is a big, heavy sigh before he finally lets himself fall into a light but blissful sleep. Your hand stills, patting his upper back as the office worker shifted a bit to subconsciously get more comfortable.
You're content to just watch over him for a few minutes, cheek pressed to his head and arms a supporting hold to keep Stanley in that peaceful rest he's finally getting. You glanced down, noticing something in your peripheral vision. A small, dark beige little crumpled paper. With great caution, you slowly leaned over and picked it up. Unfolding it, you could see that it was the drawing Stanley had been working on moments prior, which must have fallen out. Your first instinct was to put it back down. He made it pretty obvious he didn't want you to see it, and you didn't want to pry. But to even see what it was, you had accidentally uncovered the image within. It was a little doodle of the both of you, simplified figures standing next to each other. It was you both sharing an umbrella in some scribbled on rain, closely tucked together, his arm around your waist.
You couldn't help but smile seeing the image. It was a cute picture of you both, and knowing that this is what Stanley wanted to keep from you so bad was a little amusing. But regardless, you folded it back up and tucked the napkin back into his pocket. It was a cute surprise, but you knew he'd be embarrassed and upset if he knew you unintentionally saw it. With that settled, you shifted to get more comfortable, closing your eyes to prepare for a nap of your own. You nuzzled the top of Stanley's head a bit before sinking into sleep with him.

since your open for reqs, may i req a narrator x gn teen reader father figure hcs? Platonic ofc, pls take your time in writing this ‼️‼️
HAII THANK U SM FOR SENDING A REQUEST, UR MY FIRST QUESTION ON THIS BLOG (as u can probably tell)
ILL TRY MY BEST TO WRITE SOMETHING NICEY FOR U :D
+。:.゚THANKヽ(*´∀)ノ゚YOU.:。+゚
So, first off I think we all know how much he likes being comedic, so I'm 99% sure he would be telling dad jokes 24/7, probably just to tease u if he knows that it gets on your nerves, but he'll still always try to make you laugh, since he ofc wants u to be happy, and also just to make u feel better too if ur having a bad day
i also feel like he would steal candy or food from you 😭😭 like most dads do, just reaching his hand into the bad of candy and pulling out a quarter of all the candy inside and eating it, leaving barley any for u in the process-
"Oh come on, I practically watch over you everyday, I think I'm aloud to get a thank you for it, hm?"
"....but that was half the bag-"
since ur a teenager and all he would know when to give u ur space if u need it, cause he was a teenager once too and knows that you're growing and need privacy, though he will check in very often if ur hiding in ur room all the time, just to make sure ur ok (will ask A LOT if u want anything to eat, he knows that humans. And well, teenagers, need a lot to eat everyday so he'll make sure you're fed)
"Are you STILL laying in bed? Sigh Well, would you like anything to eat atleast? ....no? No, that won't do, I won't let you go on with the day with only coffee from this morning in your system, no no, come now, pick out something from the kitchen and I'll make it for you"
you have homework often? He'll make sure you get it done, he doesn't want you falling behind at all, if it's anything to do with English or storytelling then He'll definitely offer help, but might get carried away and do about a quarter of the work for u
If u keep getting distracted by your phone or TV then he'll definitely take your phone for a bit, or just move u out of the room with the TV in it
"Now...I'm taking thi- wha-? It's only for half an hour! Honestly I think you'll survive, gosh....what? What in the hell is a snapchat? .....your friends are expecting you to text them back? Well, I'm sure that they'll understand that your education and future is more important, and that you need to study, more important than tiktok or that snap streak you gawk on and on about" then with a wave of his hand he'll walk off
he'll let you work next to him if it helps you concentrate tho, while he works on some scripts or reads
if ur trans or non-binary he might surprise you with a binder! (Only if you're aloud to have one) If he can find a cheap one somewhere, but he'll repeatedly remind you that you shouldn't wear it for too long or else it will cause damage, and will remind you how to apply it right over and over (he just wants u to be safe :3)
"So? Does it fit well? Oh I knew you'd like it! And remember, no more than 8 hours, understand? I'm serious about that, I just want you to be safe wearing it alright?"
Or if you don't need or want a binder then he might get u a small pride pin with ur flag or pronouns, anything to make u feel better with yourself
venting is important, he knows that, and will always let you come to him, in case your parents refuse to listen or even another adult
affection from him can come in so many different ways but he'll always stick with the one that makes you most comfortable
Hugs and forehead kisses? He can do that
Verbal affection and compliments? Alright
Gift giving? More than glad to see you light up at a gift he got you
The only thing he truly cares about is your happiness, and he'll treat you like his own, his child that he never got, because he loves you and always will

Comfort from the narrator for anxiety with starting a new job
"Oh come now, Reader. You'll be absolutely splendid. Not to worry, I'm sure your manager will give you all the training you'll need to succeed. And if they don't, they shall have me to deal with."
You decide to not tell the narrator that he's not really capable of being a threat in the real world. He's enough of a softie that all he can really do is frown ominously at them.
"I can assure you, that if these people are professionals, they will treat you with respect. If something goes wrong, I can delete them like I did with Stanley's co-workers."
The ridiculous joke makes you smile. You shake your head and give him a friendly shove. He laughs, then becomes somber again.
"Many people incorrectly assume that they are stuck in one job for the rest of their lives. This is not so. If things truly don't work out, you have the right to put your own well being first, and walk away. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Alright, dear?"
"Now then, first impressions are very important. When it comes to your coworkers, smile wide, shake their hand, and do not under any circumstances collapse to the floor due to some human malady. That won't do at all. As long as you follow those simple steps, you'll have no trouble at all fitting in with the rest of them."
The narrator cautiously looks around, before leaning in to whisper to you. "Don't forget the worker's rights you're entitled to in terms of privacy, fair pay, and breaks. The triple threat."
He finishes off his little speech by pulling you into a hug.
"They hired you for a reason, Reader. That means they saw something in you that made them think you were a good fit. And if things get hard, remember that I'm never more than a few clicks away."
Good luck, anon!
