Videl scarcely felt the water pouring down his head. Too many feelings bursted within as he sobbed away, the hair streaming down his face was a wall keeping his feelings of panic, shame and despair close and everything else so far away.

Not as quite keen to complexities of such emotions, Lahortans spoke on and on of how the acridity was hardly a problem for them to deal with as they mopped away, prattling on about how worse things they’ve cleaned. In their eyes, all logical reassurances. They would turn every once few to see him still hands covering his eyes, unmoved except for heaving breaths.

“All and all I think it was more of a convenient timing, I would shiver at the thought of you ruining that gorgeous ensemble you had earlier. Wouldn’t you agree?”

He still couldn’t muster to acknowledge them. Such ability did not exist. Their eyes felt like fire on his body. They’re astute, too much so. Anyone could easily notice his mask’s magic wavering, flickering, energy licking their face as their emotions burst through the literal crack, few would understand its source—most demon don’t have much first hand experience with something so private. Lahortans on the other hand, their life’s passion is the transmission and transmutation of magic. He wished he could know for sure, but as always, too much a risk. Better to be in limbo of a possibility than to reveal their own secrets directly.

Videl started to feel sick again.

“All right, all right then. I suppose we should get you cleaned up.”

By then he was entirely silent, still. Their hands went all around their body is a way so much different from earlier. Shameless perhaps, but it’s not like Videl sounded in protest, they were less sensual and more objective. But they couldn’t help but think they were enjoying it somehow— otherwise why would they do it? Isn’t that their motivation for everything happening here? Not that Videl cared anymore. When Lahortans had lighty put their hands on his face, they suddenly withdrew.

“Oh. Oh dear. Hold one moment now.”

They walked out and came back with a thermometer, Videl felt his stomach tighten. They don’t know, they could never.

“I had assumed it had been food poisoning but you seem to have a bit of fever. I’d mistaken it for fervor.. no wonder you are so stricken in such a way. Couldn’t you have told me? Well, come then, let’s wrap you up and put you to bed. I may be bad at tending to people, generally speaking, but I’ve had to tend to myself plenty of times before.”

Or course it wasn’t illness, it was his personal shame, the one he often hides with chilling touches. But this misunderstanding could save him all the confession, so as shaken and quiet he is wrapped in towels and sheets and laying upon their bed once more.

“So what is your usual dosage of staywill bulbs? No wait, just tell me your weight I can make the calculations. I’m not sure about you but, it’s my preferred ingredient for managing fevers. Not quite strong and doesn’t last very long but difficult to overdose, and tends not to interact with- ah why am I telling you this it’s not like we aren’t working with it on the daily. Of course I don’t make medicine at home often, but when I must I do not trust myself to be exact when I’m mentally handicapped.”

Pause. No response.

“Actually, I suppose I can make a rough guess it’s not like going a bit over will hurt you and it is not like you have an especially dangerous fever or anything. In any case, do allow me a few minutes to whip up something and do not get sick on the meantime— I shall concoct something to soothe your stomach, so please survive by then.”

He couldn’t tell if it was the emotional exhaustion of the panic attack or the soporific effects of crushed umel leaves that made their thoughts dissipate into lulling darkness. Videl assumed the combination of both considering how his dosages for anything are a bit higher by grace of his nature. He latched onto Lahortans who sat up studying, occasional whines of spiked anxiety quieting down.

Lahortans meanwhile was tired, but comfortable, their arm around their coddled lover. There was only a slight acknowledgment that it was unusual for them to feel such a manner, but they also weren’t going to question fluctuations in hormones and feelings of friendship they don’t quite understand. It also didn’t occur to them how actually affected Videl was emotionally— maybe obvious to most but not to them. He has never acted in such a way, always confident on top of things, energetic between the embarrassment and illness that caused it, he most likely he is not feeling himself at all. They had their book out, but it was really just hard to put aside their elation from earlier. Sure it was a bit of a rough end, but the nervousness, affection, passion and- they weren’t expecting the shy boy act, and first time never is the most thrilling in some ways but they enjoyed their side of the experience well enough and assumed the same of him- although there is a chance of souring after this evening, but that is why they are doing their very best to calm him down.

Lahortans felt Videl’s grip on them change, they brushed his hair and noticed the drowsiness he was succumbing to, as he was murmured the first words in the last couple hours, even if those weren’t exactly intelligible. With a neutral sigh they pulled the light switch and slipped down to meet him.

“If that fever of yours worsens I’m afraid I’m going to have to visit your place and pick few things up. Oh well. Aren’t you lucky I don’t mind your company at all? I do mind possibly covering your shifts, but all in time. Good night- to myself. You are, certainly absent.”
