During that time, she receives a news that the author of the book which was adapted for the screen 20 years ago where she play a main role and now in its remake, she’s doing another part, while a young sensation playing the main part. This is more like the evolution of cinema. The 20 years is too soon for her, while the cinema and its trend advanced rapidly. Precisely to say, the commercial films and young actors taking over the art films and true artists’ places respectively. If you at least 30 years old, you would get this film more than others. Because while I was growing up in the 90s, the cinema was so different. I’m not talking about the technology like computer graphics, but the story and how it was narrated for the screen. Now the science- fiction and dystopian themes taking over with the young audience and social media support. I think it was a quite meaningful film, particularly if you adore films like the recent evolution in cinema was so faster than ever. The negatives were, the film was too long, slow pace and too simple drama. The positives were, the actors and their performances, the locations, theme and some of the dialogues. Directed by a French filmmaker, this is an international project with a few guest appearances. Most of the film was set in the Alps. Totally different than what I was anticipating, but I still like, except in a few parts where I got bored for its weak development. So this is for the selected audience, that mean it will be appreciated by a very few and I’m kind of neutral with mostly in its favour. _6/10_ M...

🎬 Gambito de dama, la miniserie basada en la novela homónima de Walter Tevis es excelente. Una apacionante mirada al ajedrez y de las pasiones que el despierta. Sus personajes son brillantes y las actuaciones sobresalientes. Una historia contada tan sutilmente como inteligente.

Ambientada en la década del '60 en Kentuky el director nos deleita y muestra la historia de vida de la joven Beth ( Anya Taylor Joy) saltando del pasado al presente de forma perfectamente cronológica, desde su estadía en el orfanato hasta su madurez y su pasión por el ajedrez, pero también la soledad de una persona muy extrovertida.

Al quedar huérfana la niña termina en un orfanato cristiano donde es despojada de su pasado y su niñez. Ahí comenzará, en el sótano de la institución junto al conserje su adicción al juego. Con el tiempo aprenderá a jugar y drogarse con somníferos y tranquilisantes que le dan en el orfanato.

El feminismo, la adicción a las drogas, el desarraigo social, racismo y política son el alimento principal de la miniserie.

Lo que sigue es una apasionante historia de adopción, apego a su madre adoptiva y ganar y ganar al ajedrez. El final es lo que fueron todos los capítulos, soberbio.

Una tapada de boca a todas aquellas personas que se quejan de que la maquinaria de Hollywood ya no fabrica, aquí tienen el ejemplo.

The 3rd BloodRayne film isn't much better than what proceeded it. It's so far from the source material that if you just started watching it and nobody told you what it was you wouldn't be able to identify it as anything relating to the BloodRayne series. The issue with adaptation films is usually that they end up being hated for failing to understand what fans enjoyed about the original work and in this instance, they don't even really try with what they have.

This installment in the trilogy IS the best in the series even with all of it's flaws, but that's not really saying much if you've seen the others. You see, Uwe Boll is most known for making schlock horror films which are made on a small budget and are usually campy to the point of hilarity. That style of filmmaking just doesn't work when you're taking on a property that already exists in entertainment because it feels like you aren't taking the material seriously and that this is just a cash grab for you. What makes this this one the best yet is the action is handled better but a lot of the same issues are present. The setting finally resembles something we know from the games, but it's handled with no skill or tact whatsoever. This is Nazi Germany for God's sake. Boll doesn't do ANYTHING to capture the grisly and sickening nature of that location during that time period. Rayne as a character is lifeless and boring, the villains are all stenciled and uninteresting. The concept of Vampires is still not used in any way that makes this film unique or special. There is really just nothing to see here. THE GOOD

This film manages to make strides at getting closer to the source material while also moving further away from it. At the very least though the action has gotten a little more watchable.

THE BAD

What made the games interesting from the antagonist standpoint was all the different experimental Nazi Supermen of the GeigenGeist Gruppe but this film doesn’t capture that in the least. It settles for these generic cookie cutter, bad guy, evil Vampires that are opposite Rayne.

Natassia Malthe is still a terrible choice to play Rayne and they changed the look so much that she doesn’t even remotely resemble any version of the character at this point. You never get the sense that she’s even aware of the stakes in this film, her emotions remain mostly the same throughout. In the games Rayne is mostly sarcastic and vengeful but she doesn’t react differently to certain plot elements.

I don’t know how Uwe Boll keeps managing to make sex and nudity unappealing but he pulls it off flawlessly every time.

For a film based on a game where you murder tons of Nazis and monsters there isn’t a lot of carnage or blood in this film. The fight scenes aren’t as bad as they were in the previous films, but more gore would have been nice.

I give this film a 2.1 out of 10 PLEASE STOP MAKING THESE!

„Vajon leleplezik-e magukat a muzsikusok, és lesz-e második album? Mind a kettőre megvan az esély” – 2018 decemberében ezekkel a mondatokkal zártam a csapat bemutatkozó albumáról, a Reborn-ról szóló ismertetőt (itt). A válasz mindkét kérdésre „igen”: szűk két éven belül itt a csapat következő alkotása, és ma már azt is tudjuk, hogy mindkét lemezt a Georg Neuhauser (ének), Markus Pohl (gitár), Christian Rodens (basszusgitár), Steffen Theurer (dob) összetételű kvartettnek köszönhetjük.

Az énekes „főállásban” (2004 óta) az osztrák illetőségű, szimfonikus progresszív power metalt játszó Serenity frontembere. A Warkings-ben még leginkább ő nevezhető kakukktojásnak, ugyanis a többiek az elmúlt másfél évtizedben különböző stuttgarti csapatokban muzsikálva szőtték egymás között mind szorosabbra a zenei és baráti szálakat. Pohl-t és Theurer-t első ízben a Symphorce nevű power metal formációban sodorta egymás mellé az élet. A gitáros 2002-ben, a dobos három évvel később csatlakozott az együtteshez, amely végül 2011-ben oszlott fel.

Közben 2006-ban – már Chris Rodens-szel – megalakították a Watch My Bleed nevű, az előbbinél jóval keményebb muzsikát (death/thrash/groove) játszó zenekart. A WMB elvileg ma is létezik, ám meglehetősen komótos banda, ugyanis eddig csupán két nagylemezük jelent meg. Érdekesség, hogy ott Rodens az énekesi posztot tölti be, míg mellette az az Alex Gindu hörög második frontemberként, akit Pohl-ék a Symphorce feloszlását követően, 2012-ben életre hívott, dallamos heavy/groove metalt toló együttesükben, a Souldrinkerben is kipróbáltak (a WMB első albuma is a Souldrinker címet viselte). Utóbbi csapatban végül egyedül Iris Boanta énekesnő maradt a mikrofon mögött – egészen 2018-ig, amikor magánéleti okok miatt ő is a távozás mezejére lépett.

A Warking hangszeresei a Souldrinker-ben

És ekkor tűnt fel a harcmezőn a Warkings: az énekes nélkül maradt hangszeresek Georg Neuhauser-t leigazolva, egy tőlük addig teljesen idegen koncepció mentén játsszák az erőtől duzzadó, ugyanakkor dallamoktól túlcsorduló power metalt. A kemény műfajban körülbelül a Manowar színre lépése, vagyis 1980 óta feszülnek a hősies pózok, mennek a fennkölt szövegek; a metal bizonyos csapatoknál nemcsak zene, hanem színház is, a közönség egy része pedig vevő erre a teatralitásra, főleg, ha a látványos maskarába bújt muzsikusok képesek minőségi zenével szórakoztatni a nagyérdeműt.

A háború királyainak jelmezei kissé eklektikusra sikeredtek: van köztük viking harcos (Rodens), spártai katona (Theurer), keresztes vitéz (Pohl) és az ókori Rómából származó népvezér is (Neuhauser). Ennek megfelelően a dalokhoz is ezekből a történelmi korokból, népcsoportok és katonai egységek harci tetteiből merítettek ihletet. És persze az imázshoz igazodva a csapat második albumát felvezető szöveg is kellően patetikusra sikeredett:

„A Pokol bosszúra szomjazik… Egy új hadjárat indul az alvilág baljós bugyraiból: a hatalmas hadurak visszatérnek a harcmezőre, hogy a legtisztább heavy metalból kovácsolt, félelmetes fegyvereik segítségével felvegyék a küzdelmet a hátborzongató démonokkal. A négy ókori hadvezér összegyűlt a Valhalla arany csarnokában, elmenekülve a sötétség birodalmából, ellopva lelkét a mélység urától. Vérszomjas dühükben a démonok bosszút akarnak állni a háború királyain, ám Odin küldöttei is készen állnak arra, hogy ellenállhatatlan himnuszaikkal legyőzzék a szürkület hadait.”

Jó, mi? Tiszta Manowar. Már kábé húszévesen megmosolyogtuk az ilyen dumát, a Running Wild kalózjelmezeit, a két fél dísztökkel produkált lódobogást vagy Joey DeMaio-ék leopárdmintás bőrtangáit. Nem kell komolyan venni őket, ám úgy igazi az élmény, úgy hat az előadás, ha mégis ezt tesszük. Olyan ez, mint egy fantasy-szerepjáték, színes figurákkal, izgalmas karakterekkel, amelyeknek mi magunk is a bőrébe bújunk.

De hogy a zenéről is beszéljünk, miben más az idei album, mint a két évvel ezelőtti debüt? A rövid válasz az, hogy semmiben: ez alkalommal is ugyanazt a lendületes, hangulatos, ugyanakkor kiszámítottan dallamos muzsikát kapjuk, mint a Reborn esetében. Ahogy ott, úgy itt is egy dalban hörög a gyönyörűen gonosz Queen of the Damned, azaz Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum, Malefistum, Rage of Light, ex-Evenmore); ám míg a bemutatkozó nagylemezen öten vendégeskedtek, itt már csak a svájci énekesnő támogatja meg jelenlétével a produkciót.

Folkos témával, fúvósokkal, vonósokkal indul a skótok szabadságáért folytatott küzdelem (Freedom), a népzenei rész szerencsére gyorsan véget ér, a középtempós nóta refrénjére kétlábdobbal erősítenek rá, a szóló mívesen kimunkált, a hangzás is tökéletes. Neuhausernek óriási torka van, orgánuma nagyon passzol ehhez a férfias(kodó) zenéhez, előadásmódját (ahogy kiénekli a szavakat) azonban gyakran egy kicsit modorosnak, túlartikuláltnak érzem.

A másodikként elhangzó Maximus olyan sulykolós, menetelős refrénnel ül bele a hallójáratokba, mint az előző album Hephaistos-a és Gladiator-a, vagy az itt valamivel később elhangzó Battle of Marathon. „We are warriors – warriors / Dragons of the night / Riding with the thunder side by side” – énekli Georg a már jóval gyorsabb következő nótában. A banalitások szerves részét képezik ennek a műfajnak, a zenei változatosságra azonban nem lehet panaszunk. Az Odin’s Son-ban jut például mikrofonhoz pacsirtahangú vendégművésznőnk, de mély hangú vokált más dalokban is hallunk (sejthetően Rodens-től). Az Azrael-t keleties női ének színesíti, nekem itt mégis a refrént felvezető énekrész tetszik a legjobban. Dögösen dübörög az anyagot záró Warking, egyszerre lép hatezer római katona; a ritmus relatív súlyosságát orgonahang és templomi férfiének hangja lágyítja.

Ha a megénekelt, valós történelmi eseményeket nézzük, hallhatunk beszámolót az 1314-es Banockburn-i csatáról, ahol a függetlenedni vágyó skótok arattak diadalt az angolok felett; Carthago i.e. 146-ban történt lerombolásáról; a teutoburgi ütközetről, más néven Varus csatájáról, ahol – i. sz. 9-ben – a germán törzsek megsemmisítettek három római légiót; Jeruzsálem 1099-es bevételéről; vagy az i.e. 490-ben lezajlott marathóni ütközetről.

Szórakoztató történelemóra tíz dalban, bő 40 percben. A Warkings a Revenge-dzsel simán hozza az előző album színvonalát. Más kérdés, hogy jóból is megárt a sok, az egyformaság egy idő után unalmassá válik. Hallottunk már ilyet, és nemcsak a stuttgarti haduraktól. Ezzel együtt a zene túlságosan is élvezetes ahhoz, hogy négy pontot adjak rá.
