8. Which of your OCs is the most fun to write?

Hmm, probably Chiar. mainly because he’s cryptid and has these amazing (deadly) abilities and straight up refuses to use them, to the point where he’s constantly in pain. The thing with Chiar is he could easily be an anti hero, easily overpower anyone who tried to hurt him, but he won’t. He forces himself to stay on their level, even if it means an increasing amount of pain, just to retain what’s left of his humanity. So it’s just a lot of fun to write about his constant internal crisis that manifests into a subconscious voice that thinks murder solves everything.

19. Do any of your OCs have pets?

Yeah! Sterling had a ball python as a kid. And a few others as well…actually now that I think of it, I can only think of one other OC with a pet. In one of my past writing projects (fantasy), there was an elf with a sparrow named Twix who’d follow them around. Not named after the candy though, it was supposed to be a pun on ‘twigs’ lol

Do any of the modern AU characters keep an animal matching the ones they can create with magic as pets? Does Nero have a pet bird and does Fuego have a large water monitor lizard?

That’s a good question! They all do! Also, I searched up what a large monitor lizard was and WOW!! I never heard of these guys! They look so cool!

Here are the characters who have a pet in the modern AU:

Nero: Anti-bird (”Noir”)

Fits her dark aesthetic

Comes from a family who loves birds

Iconic birds in the canon universe so I had to use these birds in this AU!

Fuegoleon: Water monitor lizard (”Agua”)

Not creative with names

Likes how docile and gentle these lizards are despite their large size

Mereoleona: A pack of wolves

Doesn’t name them at all

She happened to befriend a pack of wolves during her adventures in the woods

No one knows how she did it

Sister Theresa: European Burmese cat (”Adeen”)

Meaningful name, ‘Adeen’ means ‘little fire’

Likes how affectionate, intelligent, and loyal they are

The kids loves Adeen

Yuno: Cockatiel (”Tweety”)

Inspired by the cute bird character, Tweety bird

Reminds him of Asta

Noelle: Bearded Dragon (”Sigwalt Sterling”)

Got pretty extra with the name

Said she loved dragons and received a Bearded Dragon as the closest pet to a ‘dragon’

Nozel: Dove (”Selig”)

Thinks of Doves as a blessing

Has a pet Dove because Acier loved Doves

Nebra: Has a collection of different types of spiders, specifically tarantulas

Her favorite is the Pink Zebra Beauty (”Queen”)

Sees herself as this tarantula which explains the name, ‘Queen’

Thinks tarantulas are the most beautiful creatures on Earth

Solid: Ball Python (”Alfred”)

The name speaks to him in a spiritual level

Thinks they look ‘cool’

Zora: Has a collection of bugs and insects

His favorite is the rainbow stink bug (”Zora Jr.”)

Is deeply connected to this bug

Thinks bugs are perfect for pranks

Gordon: Leopard Geckos (”Blair”)

Thinks Blair is a beautiful Gothic name

Was lonely and so he got himself a gecko

Henry: Has a lot of different birds

His favorite is a Cockatoos (”Snowball”)

Matches their white feathers

Loves how affectionate and attention seeking Snowball is

Charmy: Sheep (”Cutie Pie”)

To Charmy, cute and sweet describes her sheep

Her family owns a lot of sheep

Types of boas (part 1)

Boa refers to any animal within the family Boidae, these animals are generally new world and give live birth, unlike pythons. These all are, of course, nonvenomous. Boas range from sand boas to anacondas to amazon tree boas. Female boas are very likely to be bigger (sometimes significantly bigger) than males. I will breakdown posts by genus.

Boa genus:

This genus includes the 2 species (or some consider boa imperator a subspecies of boa constrictor) of boa "constrictors", red tailed boas and common boas, both species are called both, but generally Boa constrictors are red tails and Boa imperators are commons. Boas are nocturnal animals. They are usually solitary, except for mating. Afterwards, they will give birth to up to 60 young, which will be ready to go in minutes. They usually live on the ground, but are excellent swimmers and climbers. In the wild they can live up to 30 years, but in captivity they can live up to 40. When young, they will eat things like rodents, but as adult will eat things like monkeys and deer.

Boa constrictor:

This is your typical beautiful boa "constrictor" with that bright red tail. They do not have true morphs, only localities. Different localities are different sizes and are usually between 5-12 feet in length but the longest I believe was 14 feet. Their weight is generally 20-35 pounds although up to 100 pounds has been seen before.

These guys are the ones that morph into beautiful variety of colors and patterns. The morphless still have red tails, but it's not quite like the the true red tails. Along with morphs they also have localities too. They are average smaller than constrictors and usually are 4-8 feet in length but can reach up to 12. They are usually around 13 pounds.

I labeled them all D, ID, or R for dominant, incomplete dominant, or recessive. Dominant is where it only needs 1 of the gene to show and 1 and 2 genes look the same, incomplete dominant is where 1 gene and 2 genes look different, and recessive is where it needs 2 genes to show. Recessives with 1 gene look like their other morphs and are considered heterozygous. They have to be breed to another boa with 1 or 2 of the same recessive genes to make visual or het babies. Recessive or het adults bred to non visual or het adults can make het babies too.

Health issues with morphs: some morphs can have health issues that always or sometimes come with them. There may be more than this.

Albino: eye deformities

Super motley: doesn't survive to adulthood

Super jungle: can't reproduce

Boa constrictors are commonly kept as pets. They are active, alert, and usually tolerate handling well. They are harder to keep than snakes like ball pythons and most colubrids, but not extremely difficult like some snakes.
