Revisiting CV for nostalgia purposes, and while this is probably a very unpopular opinion to have, but I actually think Steve is a good match for Claire, and their dynamic feels pretty organic and genuine. Sure, the line delivery does botch it up at times, but I do see the intention, and I actually like it a lot! And that's specifically because Steve constantly challenges her and plays off of her in such a teasing manner, making her tease him back in turn. Him acting all high and mighty with her until she turns the tables on him and makes him taste his own medicine? It's cute! I think this scene shows off that dynamic between them the best:

They feel like a good match because they are on the same wavelength, if that makes any sense. Them trying to one up each other, teasing one another and poking fun at each other may seem kind of bumpy and even kinda mean at times, but it honestly just reads as a mutual way of bonding with these two. It's nice to see Claire be so playful and have her antics reflected back to her like this.

We don't really get other characters challenging Claire quite the same playful way Steve does. And Claire being all coy and teasing with him in turn? It's fun! And it's also nice to see her be able to play around with someone like that. These two read to me as the type of people to engage in playful bullying as a show of affection, and it's honestly a fun dynamic to see. I think it would do Claire a lot of good to have someone like that in her life, not gonna lie.

That said, they would definitely go on constant prank wars with each other if Steve made it out alive.
