Hiding in Private

i highly reccomend this video and this channel in general. The creator is really good at understanding Steven Universe for what it is at its core. Its values and messages. This specific vid made me cry for seemingly no reason at "idealism" part of the video. Its unfair how hate reviews got so much more traction, millions of views. Convincing people this show is terrible, not even being able to understand it while making bold claims and hating on its creators. So im putting this out there in hopes i can bring more people to watch it, and maybe even, Change their Minds *badums*

tw: anxiety, overthinking

this has got to be easily my favorite, and one of the most important songs from steven universe. the first time i heard it, i bawled. it's a song written for a person with anxiety, and it's providing a beautiful coping mechanism.

garnet is showing connie how to do mindfulness meditation and grounding. you observe thoughts, here they come, now let's watch them go by! one of my favorite coping skills for overthinking/obsessive thoughts. instead of punishing yourself, she says

here comes a thought that might alarm you

what someone said and how it harmed you

feelings can be scary. they can come out of nowhere, big and small, and we don't have to pretend they're bad or wrong. we see them for what they are - part of ourselves.

take a moment remind yourself to

take a moment and find yourself

grounding can get yourself out of your head and in the present. find things you can see, feel, smell even. observing yourself in your environment helps you to escape continuous obsessive thoughts.

i get kids probably don't sit and analyze like we would. but i'm sure it's helped more than just me to deal with my anxiety.

Seems like the only thing i do lately is share links to SU vids, oh well.

This one has amazing smooth animation and is fantastic at potraying Pinks life before becoming Rose, it connects all available info we have about her life, and shows why she acted the way she did. The scene in the tower is so touching.. under a short featuring that moment someone left this comment and it makes it even worse:

Only thing is that, in this animation it shows that Pink Diamond hit Pink Pearl rather then that it was from a scream, but since it never was actually shown in the show, we don't know exactly how it happend. So its up to interpretation.

Really makes me wish for a spin off about her. Rebecca Sugar mentioned in an interview that there would need to be a fuss about Steven Universe so that maybe they can continue it with something! Lets hope someday that'll be possible.

Yk something that lowkey really bugs me? I hate how often when people talk about Steven Universe in terms of LGBTQ rep, there’s always this stupid 'I know, but’ angle to it. Quite frankly, I don’t give a shit about the stuff other people don’t like about its writing (hell, quite frankly there are plenty of things that are arguably better regarded which I find less compelling or worse written). It was a series with not just one or two but literally dozens of queer characters, and told a story about self-acceptance and fighting against bigoted systems of power that spoke to me and a lot of people, one which didn’t pretend prejudice and abuse don’t exist like some shows with LGBTQ rep like to. And it did it before almost any other kid’s shows even touched the subject- you wouldn’t have stuff like She-Ra or TOH without it and their showrunners have basically said as much. It deserves to be treated as the jewel in the crown of Gay Cartoons and not just some also-ran.
