Summary: Y/N and Max are on a stealth mission to keep their relationship under wraps. But with rumors swirling faster than a car at Monza, Charles's overprotective instincts kick in—cue the concerned brother alarms! Meanwhile, the boys offer about as much help as a flat tire, with plans so ridiculous they might just need a pit crew. Will Y/N and Max dodge Charles’s protective wrath, or will this love story end up in the wall? Strap in; it’s gonna be a bumpy ride!
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
A/N: just wanted to ask if anyone feels annoyed or don't like it when smau fics have story parts? like I don't want to do the confessions and some of the things on text and I wanna write about some of the behind the scenes too and the only way to do that is to write it in a story format but apparently some people don't like that? like what is you guy's consensus on this?

maxverstappen1:
Did the coffee leave you for someone else too?
      ↪ y/n_leclerc :
At least coffee doesn’t need a grid penalty to get close to me.
      ↪ danielricciardo:
This roast is hotter than the coffee 👀
      ↪ charles_leclerc:
Don't make me call FIA on both of you.
      ↪ y/n_leclerc :
Charles, pls, I’m still recovering from your last safety briefing.
      ↪ landonorris:
Max back to roasting? Is this the plot twist we’ve been waiting for?
user1:
Why are they roasting each other again? What happened to 'Max is definitely into her'?!
user2:
THE FLIRTING ERA IS OVER?? MAX AND Y/N ROAST ERA INCOMING 🚨
user3:
WE NEED ANSWERS. WHY ISN’T MAX FLIRTING ANYMORE??

DMs between Max and Y/N:
maxverstappen1:
Still thinking about our coffee date this morning. You looked way too good for just a casual date. 😏
y/n_leclerc:
Lol please, I literally rolled out of bed and threw on a hoodie. But I’m glad my ‘effortless chic’ fooled you. 😉
maxverstappen1:
Fooled me? No chance. I knew exactly what you were doing. Strategic as always. 😌
y/n_leclerc:
Strategic? I just wanted caffeine, Max. But if you’re calling my bedhead a ‘strategy’... sure, I’ll take it.
maxverstappen1:
Whatever you call it, it worked. Couldn’t stop staring at you.
y/n_leclerc:
Max. You’re so sappy today, what happened to your 'too cool' attitude?
maxverstappen1:
That went out the window the moment you started dating me. Now, I’m just soft. For you. 🥲
y/n_leclerc:
Soft Verstappen? I never thought I'd live to see the day.
maxverstappen1:
Only for you. Don’t tell the others, though. I have a reputation to uphold.
y/n_leclerc:
Your secret’s safe with me. But honestly, I’m loving whatever this is. Us, I mean.
maxverstappen1:
Same. This whole 'flirting in public and pretending everything’s normal' thing? Chef’s kiss. Watching people lose their minds over it is the best part.
y/n_leclerc:
It’s like we’re living rent-free in their heads. The comments are gold. Especially the ones trying to figure out what the hell is going on with us.
maxverstappen1:
Like the one saying we’re secretly married already? That one almost made me spit out my coffee. 😂
y/n_leclerc:
I saw that! They’ve got theories for days. The one where we’re 'just friends' but you’ve been flirting for a whole week straight? Love that for us.
maxverstappen1:
Right? Like, I was literally flirting non-stop, and now they think we’re back to picking fights with each other like nothing happened. 😂
y/n_leclerc:
We're driving them crazy and honestly, I’m having the time of my life watching it.
maxverstappen1:
Same. But I kinda miss not having to hold back on the flirting. 😏
y/n_leclerc:
Oh yeah? How would you even flirt if you didn’t have to hold back, Verstappen?
maxverstappen1:
I’d take you somewhere nice. Like, I don’t know, a fancy restaurant maybe? 😎
y/n_leclerc:
Smooth. Are you asking me out again?
maxverstappen1:
Depends. Are you saying yes?
y/n_leclerc:
Let’s say I’m free… where are you taking me?
maxverstappen1:
Somewhere where you won’t be able to just wear a hoodie. Gotta dress up for this one. 😉
y/n_leclerc:
A challenge. I accept.
maxverstappen1:
Perfect. Friday night. I’ll pick you up.
y/n_leclerc:
Can’t wait. 😘

You’re killing it! 💅 When’s our next girls' dinner??
      ↪ y/n_leclerc:
Whenever you’re ready to throw George’s credit card on the line again. 💳😉
      ↪ georgerussell63:
Excuse me, why is my financial ruin the theme of your dinners?
lilymhe:
Okay but where’s MY invite?? You look too good to be dining alone.
      ↪ y/n_leclerc:
Lily, your absence was felt, the waiter asked where my better half was. 🥲
      ↪ alex_albon:
Pretty sure he asked that because you flirted for a free dessert.
      ↪ y/n_leclerc:
And it WORKED, Albono. That’s called strategy.
      ↪ maxverstappen1:
Dinner for one? Weird, thought you’d be out there terrorizing other diners.
      ↪ y/n_leclerc:
Terrorizing diners? Max, I’m not the one who scarfs food down like I’ve been starved for days.
      ↪ maxverstappen1:
That’s called efficiency. You wouldn’t know, with how long you take to pick an outfit.
      ↪ y/n_leclerc:
Efficiency? More like desperation. And excuse you, I picked this outfit in five minutes
      ↪ danielricciardo:
Efficiency is just code for ‘I’m hungry and scared of forks.’
      ↪ y/n_leclerc:
Daniel gets it. Max probably uses chopsticks like they’re drumsticks.
      ↪ maxverstappen1:
Bold of you to assume I even use utensils.
      ↪ landonorris:
He just drinks soup straight from the bowl. Classy.
      ↪ y/n_leclerc:
Honestly, that explains a lot.
      ↪ charles_leclerc:
What is happening in these comments?? Also, Y/N, you look great but maybe stop tormenting Max in public?
      ↪ y/n_leclerc:
He does that all by himself, Charles. I’m just here for moral support.
      ↪ maxverstappen1:
Your moral support feels more like public humiliation.
      ↪ y/n_leclerc:
You’d miss it if I stopped, Verstappen.
user4:
Y/N and Max fighting in the comments AGAIN, this is the content I live for.
user5:
Max is trying to pretend like he’s not impressed but we all know the truth.
user6:
Plot twist: Max was the one taking the picture at the restaurant.
alex_albon:
maxverstappen1 Why are you pretending you're not paying for that wine?
      ↪ y/n_leclerc:
EWW who’d go to dinner with him??
      ↪ maxverstappen1:
And yet, here you are, missing me at dinner.
      ↪ y/n_leclerc:
Not as much as you miss your table manners.
user7:
"Max & Y/N: Endless banter, zero chill."
user8:
Y/N is out here eating fine dining alone while dragging Max in the comments, living the DREAM.
user9:
At this point, they should just get married and keep roasting each other forever.
user10:
Wasn’t Max all flirty in the last chapter? WHAT HAPPENED?!
user11:
Max flirting era is over 😭
user12:
Plot twist: Max and Y/N are in a secret relationship where they flirt by insulting each other.

y/n_leclerc:
Charles, relax. What are you even talking about?
charles_leclerc:
RELAX? I’ve seen the pictures! Cozying up with Max? The one guy you literally fight with all the time? What the hell is going on?!
y/n_leclerc:
Oh my god. First of all, I would rather fight a swarm of bees than 'cozy up' with Max. You really think I’d be into that? Insufferable, annoying, always-has-something-to-say Max?
charles_leclerc:
The pictures don’t lie, Y/N. You were standing way too close. What were you doing with him?!
y/n_leclerc:
We were arguing, obviously. You know that’s like our thing. Five minutes in the same room, and he’s already saying something dumb. I’m just trying to live my life, and he’s there, being all Max-y.
charles_leclerc:
Arguing? That’s it? You swear?!
y/n_leclerc:
Yes! We were literally just arguing. You know, me calling him a pain in the ass, him being all smug. Classic Max-and-Y/N content.
charles_leclerc:
Mon dieu, Y/N. You scared the hell out of me! The way these gossip pages were talking, I thought you two were about to get married or something. 😤
y/n_leclerc:
Married to Max? I’d rather shove my head in a tire wall. Relax, Charlie. Nothing is happening. It’s just Max being his annoying self, like usual.
charles_leclerc:
Okay, good. I don’t need that headache in my life. Gossip pages making a big deal out of nothing as always.
y/n_leclerc:
Yeah, chill out. Like I said, I’d rather throw myself into a DRS zone than let that happen. 😂

lando.jpg:
Ohhhh, you are so screwed. 😂 Like, RIP Y/N. 💀 It was nice knowing you.
georgerussell63:
Big yikes. I’m sending flowers to your funeral. What’s your favorite color?
alex_albon:
Maybe you can tell him Max saved a kitten from a burning building? Or like… became a monk? You gotta soften the blow somehow. 🐱🔥
danielricciardo:
Tell him Max is actually a long-lost Leclerc cousin. Boom. Problem solved.
maxverstappen1:
EXCUSE ME?! A Leclerc cousin? Why am I suddenly part of the family? also that's incest?? 😂
y/n_leclerc:
I’m SERIOUS! He’s going to legit lose it! I’ve been stalling but… there’s no way out of this. What if he literally crashes into you on track, Max?? 😳
maxverstappen1:
Okay, calm down. He won’t crash into me… I hope. Maybe. Probably.
lando.jpg:
Definitely gonna crash into you. Like, 100%. F in the chat for Max.
danielricciardo:
New idea! Fake your own disappearance! Hide in a bunker until the season’s over. It’s flawless.
alex_albon:
Or just make Max wear a disguise next time you two are together. Like, put him in a Ferrari hat, maybe Charles won’t notice.
georgerussell63:
Ferrari hat? Genius. Max, you good with that?
maxverstappen1:
NO. I’m not wearing a Ferrari hat. 😤
y/n_leclerc:
This is NOT helping, you guys! Max, are you just sitting there being all calm about this?
maxverstappen1:
Look, we’ll figure it out. Worst case, I’ll just charm him with my winning personality.
lando.jpg:
Winning personality, Max? The only thing Charles is winning is the fistfight with you when he finds out. 😂
danielricciardo:
Tell him you’re pregnant. Just drop it like a bomb. He’ll be too shocked to kill Max.
y/n_leclerc:
EXCUSE ME? Daniel, you’re banned from giving advice.
alex_albon:
Seconded.
georgerussell63:
Honestly, Charles is probably already suspicious. But Max, maybe send him a fruit basket to soften him up? 'Thanks for not killing me—yet.' 🍍
maxverstappen1:
Guys… Let’s just stay calm. We’ll tell him soon, and everything will be fine. Right, Y/N?
y/n_leclerc:
Fine?! I’m about to be disowned!
lando.jpg:
Don’t worry. We’ll visit you in exile. 😂
maxverstappen1:
Okay, okay. I’ll talk to him if I have to. Just… try not to panic. It’s me. Charles likes me… kinda. Right?
y/n_leclerc:
You wish, Max. He’s gonna use you as a traffic cone.
danielricciardo:
Let’s be honest. If anyone’s gonna crash into Max, it’s gonna be Arthur, just for fun. 😂

🚨 Monaco Scandal: Y/N Leclerc and Max Verstappen Caught Kissing! 🚨
Hold onto your racing helmets, folks, because the latest tea is HOT! 🔥 Forget everything you thought you knew about Y/N and Max’s so-called “rivalry,” because sources in Monaco just served up some serious tea! 🍵rumour has it that Y/N Leclerc and Max Verstappen were spotted not only getting cozy while waiting for an elevator, but actually kissing. Yes, you read that right—kissing. 😳
According to eyewitnesses, they looked all kinds of cozy—like, too close for two people who “can’t stand each other.” To make it even juicier, Max was overheard calling Y/N “Schatje” and “Liefje.” Yes, you read that right. Pet names. Dutch pet names. 😱
They weren’t exactly trying to hide it either, full-on PDA while waiting for the elevator at a fancy Monaco Bar. With Max's arms around Y/N and her hand on his chest, it's safe to say things are heating up faster than a Monaco track in July. Is this the confirmation we've all been waiting for? Are they finally going public? Fans are losing their minds, and we are here for it. 👀💋

This is the enemies-to-lovers plot twist I didn’t know I needed.
user66:
If Charles finds out, he’s gonna drive Max off the track. 😬
use67:
Okay but I bet they were arguing over who pressed the elevator button first.
user68:
What is miss girl’s obsession with elevators?!?!?
user69:
So Max is soft now? Pet names and everything? I’m unwell.
user70:
I swear this whole time they’ve been pretending to hate each other, and now they’re cuddling in elevators. Someone explain. 😩
user71:
WAIT THEY WERE KISSING?! I was not emotionally prepared for this news. 😳
user72:
So Max’s love language is Dutch pet names and y/n's is elevator kisses? I’m dying.
user73:
KISSING in MONACO? This just became the most iconic off-track moment of the year.
user74:
I can't believe Max Verstappen of all people is out here calling Y/N "schatje" in public. 💀

Y/N woke up to the sound of soft, rhythmic breathing beside her. Her head pounded, and she felt like someone had stuffed cotton in her mouth. She blinked, trying to get her bearings, and slowly realized where she was: in Max’s bed, in Max’s apartment, with Max’s arm thrown lazily over her waist, holding her like they hadn’t just gotten plastered the night before.
For a moment, she lay there, wrapped in the heavy warmth of his arm draped across her stomach, trying to remember exactly how they ended up in this position. Her head throbbed with the unmistakable ache of too many drinks and too many bad decisions.
Max stirred next to her, shifting slightly but keeping his arm around her like it was a reflex. Y/N turned her head to look at him, his face still half-buried in the pillow, hair messy and slightly wild, looking so annoyingly cute it made her stomach do a weird little flip.
“Morning, Schatje,” he mumbled without even opening his eyes.
Y/N snorted. "Wow, you’re really pulling out all the stops with the pet names this morning, huh? Wasn’t it ‘Liefje’ last night? I’m gonna need a Dutch dictionary just to keep up."
Max laughed, the sound vibrating through his chest. "You should consider it. I’ve got a lot more where that came from. Besides, you’re cute when you’re all hungover and confused.”
Y/N groaned, rolling onto her back and throwing an arm over her face. “Ugh, don’t remind me. I feel like death.”
“Well, I think you look adorable,” Max replied, pulling her closer and pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
She peeked out from under her arm, squinting at him. “You sure its not because your head is still spinning?”
“Maybe,” Max admitted, his smile growing. “But that doesn’t mean I’m wrong.”
Y/N giggled, poking his side. “You’re so full of it.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
For a moment, they lay there in silence, enjoying the rare quietness of the morning. It was one of those rare, soft moments—no teasing, no sarcastic comments, just the two of them tangled together, wrapped in the warmth of each other.
“Why did we drink so much last night?” Y/N eventually asked, her voice muffled by Max’s chest.
“Because Lando dared us,” Max answered, sounding almost proud.
"Why do we listen to him?" Y/N groaned, her voice hoarse as she nuzzled deeper into Max’s chest.
Max chuckled, his voice still raspy with sleep. "Because he’s surprisingly persuasive for someone who looks like a lost child."
Y/N groaned again. “I’m never listening to that idiot again. We need to stop letting Lando be in charge of our nights.”
“I agree. Never let Lando dictate our fun again,” Max chuckled, shifting to press another kiss on her temple. “I’m officially banning him.”
“Good.” She sighed contentedly, closing her eyes for just a little bit longer. “I could stay like this forever.”
“Me too,” Max whispered softly.
She giggled, pulling the blanket up over her head to block out the sun. "I still feel like death though."
"Same." Max shifted slightly, brushing her hair away from her face. "But at least I’m dying next to you, Schatje."
"Please don’t," she grumbled, but she couldn’t stop the smile spreading across her face. "Honestly, I blame you just as much as Lando. You were the one who said, ‘Let’s do tequila shots, it'll be fun!’"
"Because it was fun," Max shot back, smirking. "At least until we ended up making out in front of that elevator."
Y/N froze for a second before she groaned and threw a pillow over her face. "Ugh, don’t remind me. I’m still embarrassed."
Max rolled onto his side to face her, pulling the pillow off her head. "Why? You didn’t seem embarrassed at the time," he teased. "In fact, I seem to remember you being very enthusiastic about it."
Y/N’s face turned red. "Okay, okay, shut up!"
"I’m just saying." Max winked at her, then stretched, looking way too good for someone who was supposed to be hungover. "You looked cute."
"Great," she muttered, rolling her eyes but smiling. "Now I’m cute and dead."
Max snickered, then leaned over to kiss her forehead. "If you’re dead, I’m dead too, because Lando definitely spiked those drinks."
"Speaking of Lando, I’m pretty sure I need to blacklist him from my life," Y/N said, stretching lazily. She reached over the side of the bed and found her phone buried in her pile of clothes. "Let me see if he’s alive."
As soon as her phone powered on, it exploded with notifications. Text after text, missed call after missed call, all from the boys…and her brothers.
"Oh no," Y/N whispered, her eyes wide. She stared at the screen, frozen in horror. "Oh no, no, no." She scrolled through the chaos and saw that her brothers were leading the charge in spamming her. There were also dozens of missed calls, mostly from Charles, Arthur, and—“Why is Lorenzo involved? What the hell did we do last night?!”
Max, who was halfway to the bathroom, turned back around. "What’s wrong?"
Y/N held up her phone, showing him the sheer volume of missed calls. "Max, we’re screwed. We are so screwed."
Max’s eyebrows furrowed. "Who’s been calling?"
"Everyone. All the boys. My brothers. Even Lorenzo. And Arthur. This is a nightmare," Y/N said, her voice rising in panic.
Max blinked. "Lorenzo? That’s… that’s not good."
"No shit it’s not good!" Y/N shrieked, scrolling through her messages frantically. "I’m being hunted down by my entire family!"
Max grabbed his own phone from the nightstand, but it was dead. He shrugged. "I guess ignorance is bliss, huh?"
Y/N groaned, clutching her phone like it might explode. "You’re not helping, Max!"
She scrolled through the texts, all of which ranged from "CALL ME NOW!" to "What the hell is going on?" from Charles, Arthur, and Lorenzo. Max peered over her shoulder, his brow furrowing.
"Okay, maybe it’s not that bad—" he started, but Y/N’s phone rang, cutting him off.
"Lando," Y/N muttered. "This idiot better have some answers." She answered the call. "Lando, what the hell did you do?!"
"Me?!" Lando’s voice screeched through the phone. "This isn’t my fault! I wasn’t the one making out with Max in front of an elevator!"
Y/N slapped her forehead, and Max burst into laughter. "Oh my God, Lando, seriously?!"
"Yes! Seriously!" Lando was practically hyperventilating on the other end of the call. "Photos got leaked from last night! You two were caught being all cozy, and now everyone knows. Charles called me at like 6 AM, and I thought I was gonna die. Arthur called next, and then Lorenzo—LORENZO! I had to confess, Y/N! I caved under pressure!"
Y/N’s eyes widened in horror. "Oh my God, Lando!"
"I’m a dead man! You’re a dead woman! We’re all dead!" Lando rambled, his voice climbing an octave with each sentence. "Charles is pissed, Arthur is even worse, and Lorenzo…Lorenzo is probably getting a hitman involved. And now they’re all at your apartment waiting for you!"
"Wait, what? They’re at my apartment?!" Y/N shrieked.
"Yes!" Lando cried. "They’re waiting for you, Y/N! They want answers!"
Max, who had been listening in, leaned closer to the phone. "What exactly are they mad about?"
"MAX! Oh God, Max, you’re so dead," Lando screeched. "They saw the pictures of you two—holding hands, kissing, being all ‘Schatje’ this and ‘Liefje’ that. And now they want to know why no one told them."
Y/N buried her face in her hands. "This is a nightmare."
Lando continued rambling, clearly losing his grip on reality. "Charles was so mad, he almost broke his phone when I told him I knew about you two. And Arthur? He’s got murder in his eyes. Murder, Y/N. I’m not even safe!. Arthur called me ‘an accomplice,’ and I’m honestly afraid for my life right now.”
Y/N exchanged a horrified look with Max. "We’re all doomed," she muttered.
Max, surprisingly calm, shrugged. "I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?"
"Death, Max," Y/N replied, her voice shaking with disbelief. "The worst is death."
Lando piped up again. "You guys need to come up with a plan. Fast. Charles, Arthur, and Lorenzo are about to storm the place like it’s a medieval siege."
Y/N was starting to spiral. "I need a plan! I need an escape route! I can’t face them like this!"
Max rubbed her back soothingly. "Relax, Schatje. We’ll go to your apartment, deal with them, and explain everything."
"Max, they’re gonna skin you alive," Y/N said, glaring at him. "You really think they’ll just let this slide? You’re dating their sister."
"And I’ll just tell them that I’ve got good intentions." Max smirked. "Maybe we can distract them with snacks."
"Lorenzo doesn’t do snacks," Y/N deadpanned.
Lando was still panicking on the other end. "I’m staying far away from this. You’re on your own!"
Y/N groaned. "Lando, you’re supposed to help!"
"I can’t help you if I’m dead, Y/N!" Lando whined. "I’m too pretty to die young!"
Max sighed, rubbing his temples. "Alright, let’s just get this over with."
Y/N looked at him, both amused and horrified. "You’re way too calm for someone who’s about to be slaughtered by my family."
Max winked at her. "I’ve got my secret weapon: my irresistible charm."
Lando’s voice piped up again. “If I don’t hear from you in the next 24 hours, I’ll assume you’ve both been murdered by Charles.”
"Yeah, you’re definitely gonna need more than that," Y/N muttered.
Lando interrupted one last time. "Good luck, guys. You’re gonna need it."
“Thanks, Lando. Very reassuring.” Y/N hung up and looked at Max, feeling the anxiety slowly building. “What do we do?”
Y/N tossed her phone onto the couch. She stood up, pacing the room. "This is bad. This is so bad. They’re probably already plotting my demise."
Max stood up and stretched, clearly unbothered. "I’ll take responsibility. I’ll tell them I made the first move."
Y/N laughed, despite the panic bubbling in her chest. "Oh, that’s gonna go over great."
"Don’t worry," Max said, walking over to her and pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. "I’ll protect you."
She looked up at him, eyes wide. "You’re delusional."
"Maybe," Max grinned, "but I’m delusional for you."
Y/N shook her head, grabbing his hand. "Come on, let’s go. Might as well face the music before they break down my door."
"Or your phone," Max quipped.
Y/N glared at him. "This is all your fault."
Max smirked. "Maybe. But you love me anyway."
She groaned but didn’t deny it, knowing full well that Max was right—about both things.
Y/N ran her hand through her hair, trying to calm herself down. “Okay, okay. We’ll go back to my apartment and figure this out.”
Max stood up, stretching. “I’ll make sure to bring snacks for the interrogation.”
Y/N laughed, despite herself. “You’re way too calm about this.”
“Maybe I like living dangerously,” Max said, smirking.
“Or maybe you just have a death wish.”
“Either way,” Max replied, leaning down to kiss her on the cheek, “I’m with you.”
Y/N rolled her eyes but smiled. “Well, you better be. Because we’re both about to face the firing squad.”

Alright y'all. The main characters finally meet and oh boy is there chaos. Neil is a friendly soul, but he is still dangerous in his own right. Meanwhile the crew as a whole operates on the sibling wavelength, aka as long as you're not dying we will laugh at you. Also, when I say I am having a blast writing Allan I mean it, his "good cop bad cop" switch ups are far more Comic!Allan than Movie!Allan.
Also I really do think Trevor is allergic to following the rules of reality
First Chapter: Here Previous Chapter: Here Next Chapter: Here Ao3 Version: Here Masterlist: Here
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A line here. A curve there. Attempt to capture the size by adding in a stick figure near the waterline. Count the shipboard boons, scribble them in.
Turn the page.
Ship portholes. Count the number of rows above the waterline. Assume at least a level or two below the waterline. Scribble that down, adding in some calculations on how many feet tall each level probably was.
Turn the page.
Superstructure, the main bane of my ship designs. Levels. Size. Outer decks. Lifeboats. Sketch the front, guesswork the back. Note the funnel midship, squint and try to see what lies around it. Scribble it in.
Turn the page-
"Nice work."
Years of karate piloted my body before I could think.
The man who had been leaning over my shoulder reeled back, clutching his face as my sketchbook struck him. Losing his balance, he fell to the ground. "Bloody hell!" he exclaimed from the cobblestone.
I dropped the sketchbook, a hand covering my mouth as the other reached out. "Fuck, I am so sorry!" I yelped, looking down at him.
Some of the men nearby stopped what they were doing, staring at us in shock. However, once they saw their buddy still alive, just on the ground in pain, they snickered and continued with their work.
No honor amongst thieves, huh?
"Geez!" The man sat up and slowly lowered his hand, looking from the small speck of blood to me. Luckily there was not anger in his eyes so much as confusion. "What gives?"
"Sorry! It's habit!"
"You go 'round smackin' folks out of habit?" he asked, voice nasally as he rubbed his nose again and used the crates to pull himself to his feet.
"No, but martial arts makes me jumpy when surprised!"
Odd, though. Strikes aren't supposed to connect with any sort of impact in dreams. Usually I feel like I'm struggling through water. That was... surprisingly easier.
Add that, dear reader, to the list of red flags I was ignoring.
"Well, certainly got the reflexes for it." Rubbing his nose a final time, he looked me up and down. "What're you doin' 'round here, Shortie?" he asked, leaning next to me on the crate.
Should I be offended?
We ain't exactly gonna be approached by a WNBA scout any time soon.
"Just... just sketchin'." I gestured at the ship. "Good reference."
"Really? Not too wise bein' on your own." A subtle, almost missed tilt of the head and shifting of the eyes. "People might get the wrong idea, ya know?" he added, voice a lower whisper.
I glanced around the docks, noting the way men had stopped the various odd jobs they were doing and were instead finding new things to do in a very convenient circle formation.
With me in the center.
How kind of you to tell me after I'm already done in.
Well, as long as this dream doesn't throw an angry Allan at me we'll be gucci.
"Something tells me people already got the wrong idea," I muttered, but tried keeping my face neutral as I focused back on the man beside me.
Neil, right? The white-undershirt and blue jeans Tommy Gun dude with a "Mom" tattoo who I thought was named Ernie for the longest time but who apparently was named Neil according to the captions on the Blu-Ray disc version. Apparently he was Aussie too, even though I was pretty sure he was also voiced by Daniel Mays like Allan.
Certainly sounded more Aussie here, though.
"Afraid so."
"And you're here to distract me until the big dogs get 'ere," I said, pointing the pencil at him.
"Happy those martial arts skills come with good observational skills."
I scanned the men again, catching the eye of a few of them.
Y'all ain't gonna drive me away from this ship that easy. Make no mistake about my size, I stay wishing a motherfucker would.
Given I apparently didn't have to deal with the typical "dream-goop" effect on my strikes, my confidence jumped and I offered one of the men a sly smile.
His brows raised, only to lower as he returned the sly look.
"I certainly ain't a tumbleweed, if that's your worry," I replied to Neil, focusing on him again.
"The hell is that?"
"Military term. Dad was a fighter pilot, so I got more tricks and tools up my sleeve than you can shake a stick at."
"Don't think you'll need 'em. Boss said you're not in danger." He moved closer before he paused and indicated the spot beside me with his eyes.
I shrugged, scooting over to give him a little space next to me. He crawled up beside me, the top of the crate too small to allow space between us, and he offered a soft apology as his leg pressed against mine.
Huh. Warm. Also odd, dreams don't usually have this strong of sensory feedback.
"I can scoot down if you want," Neil offered.
Realizing I stared skeptically at his leg, I shook my head and focused back on the ship sketches. "Nah, you're fine. Just... thinkin'."
Linear scenes, realistic sensory feedback, no limitations on my strikes...
Nah, there's no way.
It's... It's just a vivid dream. Yeah, that's it. You've had 'em before.
Take the opportunity and run with it.
"Ah," Neil said, not sounding entirely convinced but he didn't push it.
"So, I'm not 'in danger', huh?" I asked, using air quotes.
"Accordin' to the boss."
"You trust your employer?" I asked, scribbling some more on my sketch.
"'Bout as much as any man does." He pointed at one of the superstructure windows. "That one's got a missin' screw on the left side. Second from the top."
"Reckon that means something different in the land down under," I muttered, erasing one of my little dots.
Damn architecture, being impossible to draw.
Damn perfectionism.
At least I had a semi-helpful sailor with me, even if he was playing warden.
Funny how the sailor I originally thought I was basing my character Russell Williams off of also had an interest in art.
In a dream of course.
Yes, this was still a dream.
That's why he was lining up with Russell. My mind already had the connection and was just drawing on that.
Yeah, that's what it was.
And the only reason I was not saying anything too crazy was I didn't want this to turn into a nightmare. Wouldn't be the first time my subconscious had turned into one of those dialogue based video games. Last thing I needed was an 'Everyone Disliked That' notification.
"Now how'd you know I was from Australia?"
"Don't ask questions you ain't prepared to know the answer to."
"That's not ominous at all," Neil chuckled.
"Uh huh." Eyes on my sketch, I made a circle in the air with my pencil. "Nor is this wolfpack."
"Why haven't you fled, then?" Neil asked, voice lower again. "You're clever enough to keep an eye on your surroundin's, but not to run when danger closes in?"
I looked up and met his gaze, a dry smile on my face. "Do I stand a chance at fleein'?"
"Sorry to say," a familiar voice sounded from behind me. "But no."
The hair raised along the back of my neck. Sure it was a dream, and sure I'd already heard Daniel Mays through Neil, but hearing that voice from Allan Thompson...
I knew it did not bode well, and could make this dream turn into a nightmare very quick if my subconscious decided to make like FNaF and get a little quirky at night.
Shifting into a crouch, weight on my toes, I turned to face the man himself.
Allan Thompson regarded me with suspicion, arms crossed and eyes narrowed. Unlike the movie, he wore his outfit from the later comics; a brown buttoned shirt with rolled sleeves and work jeans. Still had his signature captain's hat, and his signature scowl.
Tom stood by him, also dressed differently; a yellow short-sleeved shirt and brown work pants. Like Allan, he still had his signature tweed cap. And his signature look of half-confusion that made him look more like a puppy than a grown man should.
Good thing I ain't younger me. Those arms would have had me acting up.
I focused on Allan, well aware that even in a dream he couldn't be underestimated.
"Howdy," I said with a nervous laugh.
Sharp brown eyes scanned me inside and out before shifting to the sketchbook. "And what is it you've got there?"
I cautiously held it up. "Sketchbook."
He held a hand out.
I thought about running there and then, but the men had already closed ranks.
If I was to keep this a pleasant if not somewhat tense dream, I needed to just play along and not make a scene.
Well, any more of one than whacking poor Neil in the nose.
I ventured off the crates, hyperaware of how tall Allan was compared to me. The fact he was built like an industrial fridge didn't help.
"Why the nervousness?" he asked, his scowl replaced by something less sinister and almost friendly.
Almost friendly.
Or, I guess it was friendly.
In the same way a plastic orange was real.
What the hell was that comparison?
I'm nervous ok? My witty banter gets helter skelter when I'm nervous!
"Y'all circlin' me like a pack'a wolves," I retorted. "Who wouldn't be on edge?"
"Interestin' accent. American, aye?"
Oh sure, just dodge my question.
I handed him the sketchbook, warily eyeing him for any quick movement. "Aye."
He handed it to Tom. "What's an American like you doin' at a dockyard like this?"
Lying wouldn't serve me well here, Allan would smell it in a heartbeat.
"Lookin' for ship refs," I said, watching both Allan and Tom as the stockier man scanned the page and a few before it.
Allan glanced at his friend, who looked up from the sketchbook with a nod.
"Yeah," Tom confirmed, flipping back to the first page and showing Allan. "Just sketches."
"Of?"
"Just the ship. None of us."
Allan turned back to me. "Got an interest in this ship?" he asked, tone conversational now. "Could take you aboard if you want a closer look."
I hated the way I perked up, hated the way he took notice of it even more, but I forced myself to shake my head.
Don't you want to roam? Roam the ship and really get a good look?
It's a dream, generated by my head, so it's not like it's the real deal. And besides, do we not see the ring of death?
"Why not?" Allan asked. "We're not scheduled to leave for a few more days. Would be happy to help."
Look at you, being all smiles. Sorry Charlie, I ain't that dumb. Dream or not, I got more sense than that.
I knew Allan. Knew his shtick.
He was amiable and helpful until he wasn't, and then he really wasn't.
And while I wanted more inspiration for Allan's character or his derivatives, I did not want to deal with an angry Allan. This dream was going swell, if not a bit odd, and I didn't intend on making things go south.
"Takin' random offers from dudes to head somewhere secluded is how I end up on the back of a milk carton," I scoffed.
Allan laughed, but the false amusement didn't fool me. "What kind of men do you think we are?" he asked, offering a disarming smile.
Too bad I knew I was looking at a viper.
"Hell man I don't know," I said.
"What happened to never judge a book by its cover?"
"Same with don't talk to strangers."
"And we're strangers to you?"
I hesitated, unable to stop myself from glancing away as I swallowed down over half a decade of hyperfixation and fics. When I met Allan's gaze again, I saw with a sinking feeling that the damage had been done and he was even more suspicious.
"Yes," I said, the lie paining me but necessary.
"Is that so?" Allan pressed.
"You ask a lot of questions, mister."
He shrugged. "I'm a curious man."
"Curiosity killed the cat."
His eyes sharpened. "And satisfaction brought her back."
Her back?
The hell did he mean by that?
"Yo!"
All heads turned, mine included, to the newcomer.
Strolling along as if he were right at home was none other than Trevor.
He stopped a little way outside the tighter circle, grinning. "What goes on?"
What goes on? Really? You smack me with the headache of the century then you vanish without a word, and now you just waltz your ass up in here?
"So now you decide to show up, you green-eyed..." I frowned at the drink in his hand, the yellow double arches instantly recognizable. "Is that McDonald's?"
Trevor nodded, lifting the drink. "Yeah!"
"Is..." I turned to the sailors. "Is there a McDonald's in this town?"
Allan's frown deepened, but it looked more like confusion rather than anger. "What's McDonald's?" He turned to one of the sailors, a younger fella with sun-tanned skin and short brown hair. "That an American thing?"
The sailor shrugged. "Must be a southern thing, we don't have those in Boston."
I turned back to Trevor. "Where the hell did you get that, Trevor?"
He shrugged. "Under the map."
"Under the-" I cut myself off, pinching the bridge of my nose. "Actually, ya know what? I don't wanna know."
"Sometimes it's what's best. Besides, it's like you said!" Trevor took a drink, the straw making the 'no drink left' gurgle, before he pointed the drink at me. "Dreams don't make sense."
"Dreams?"
I turned to Allan as Trevor joined me in the middle of the circle. "Yeah, dreams. I'm in one now."
He exchanged a glance with Tom, who just shrugged helplessly. Brown eyes returned to me. "You think this is a dream?"
A question not from annoyance, but from an authentic and utter confusion.
It gave me a brief pause, but I shrugged it off. Rarely were the manifestations in my dreams as self-aware as I was about the un-reality of it. Of course Allan would be a little put off.
Trevor was an outlier, and honestly I wasn't entirely sure he wasn't some alter ego type thing. A side of my personality that took on a life of its own to be a deus ex machina for my fanfiction when I needed to move things along but didn't want to invest energy into really digging deep for plot reasons.
That was reserved for my originals. Fanfiction was for turning my brain off and just going ham with my wish fulfillment fantasies.
Maybe I should just act crazy and they'll think I'm just off my rocker and not a threat.
"I mean, yeah," I replied, shrugging. "How else can I be here?"
"And tell us. Where exactly is here?"
"The docks where my favorite ship is," I said, pointing at the Karaboudjan sitting moored behind him.
Allan looked over his shoulder. "Your favorite ship?"
I nodded. "Aye."
I don't recall Allan being this clueless or even curious. My subconscious be taking a weird route with Allan this dream sequence. Tom's still in character though.
"And what is this ship called?"
Wait... wait wait wait. Maybe...
No, not possible. Not possible.
It's just a dream. Just a dream!
Allan is just... it's just my subconscious going weird. That's all.
That's it. That's all it is.
That's all it can be.
But if my dream wanted to play a wild card, then I just had to match the crazy.
"The Caroline."
Allan looked... disappointed?
"Thought you based the Caroline off the Karaboudjan?"
My head snapped towards Trevor. "Can you not?!"
"What?" Trevor exclaimed, raising his hands.
"There a reason you created a ship based on this one?" Allan asked.
Odd... thought he would have been more mad or hostile knowing I knew about this ship. Instead he looked almost...
Hopeful?
The hell?
"Er... yes."
Allan waited a moment. "Are you goin' to tell me?"
"Not if I don't have to."
"What's with the weird attitude, Shads?" Trevor laughed. "You usually love to talk about your sailor characters!"
"I really wish you would spontaneously combust right now."
Can't you see I'm trying to keep this dream nice? Wait, why am I even asking you that? You're part of this too.
"Shads?" Tom asked, wearing that same weirdly hopeful look as Allan. What was it about Mackenzie Crook's voice that lent itself so well to endearing characters that also were violent criminals? "That... wouldn't happen to be short for Shadow, would it?"
A jolt of energy shot up my spine.
Hold up.
Linear scenes, strong sensory feedback, full strength, surprisingly complex side characters, questions I wasn't prepared for, genuine full force emotions...
Now this?
Not only had my dreams thrown me into the setting of Tintin, but the setting of my fanfictions?
What the fuck is going on?
"Aye."
The two characters exchanged another glance.
"Al," Tom urged, elbowing the taller man. "Ask her."
I looked between the pair. "Ask me what?"
Allan turned to me and took a small step forward. "Does the name... Scarlett mean anything to you?"
My eyes flew wide.
They not only knew the name Shadow, but they knew the name of my persona?!
This is my fanfiction universe? Which one? Which timeline? The original? No, Allan's a bit too nice. And Scarlett's missing. I wrote her here during the movie timeline for the original RP timeline. This must be the abandoned one. Unless it's that alternate original timeline where Allan accused her of ratting them out so she left?
Why was I being so technical?
Dreams weren't supposed to be uber specific.
But this was a dream.
It had to be.
No, this is no longer a dream.
This just turned into a nightmare.
Instinctively, I shifted back into a right fighting stance, guard partially up. "How do you know that name?"
Tension split the air like a bolt of lightning, a majority of the sailors stiffening and closing ranks. A few of the guys looked confused at the sudden shift in mood, but they nevertheless closed ranks with the others.
No one looked more on edge than Allan and Tom. Tom showed a vast array of emotions on his face; shock, desperation, hope, worry, confusion. Allan had a bit of a better handle on his expression, but even he looked like someone just hit him with a plot twist worse than Darth Vader being Luke's father.
"How do you know that name?" he growled.
Fear filled my heart.
My brain was playing the mean Allan card now.
I needed to get the fuck outta dodge.
Wake up.
Wake up now.
Why aren't you waking up?!
"Actually!" I said with forced cheeriness, clapping my hands together as I faced a confused Neil. "Ya know what, you were right! I really shouldn't be here, I should get-"
Hands grabbed my hips.
"Going." I slowly looked down at the hands, then back at their owner. "Trevor?"
"Yes?"
I gestured to his hand placement. "Explain."
He grinned, winking at me, before lifting me off the ground and holding me above his head.
"Trevor, what the fuck are you doing?!" I screamed.
"Fly you fool!"
With a "Yeet!", he threw me over Tom and Allan's heads, out of the circle. I landed clumsily, but quickly scrambled to my feet and bolted down the docks.
If my dream wouldn't boot me out, then I'd just have to keep running until I woke up or the scene shifted.
I just hoped it would shift.
Because if it didn't...
These sailors were going to be the least of my problems.

Note
Im gonna ramble in your inbox for a bit lmao, I have a few ideas!
What about music themed?? Like music notes, treble clef, etc (idk a lot about musical notation honestly but ik theres a lot of symbols). My next thought was instruments but usually those are super detailed, like string and brass? A Harp?? The simplest i can think is like, some piano keys would make a cute design, or maybe just the headstock of a guitar! God, brass instruments would be so intense to make, i just looked at a saxaphone and I'm freaking out thinking of the detail and how impressive that would be. Or maybe physical media like a vinyl record or a little cassette tape? A little boombox, record player, or radio?
Going off of that, I think people really like decade themed/nostalgic stuff. I love 70s things personally so i may just be projecting, but i think 80s and 90s vibes are super popular! You could look at toys, technology, icons, and popular colors of an era, things like that and that might be inspiring!
Also thinking about summer themed designs since summer is coming up! Seasonal stuff is so cute and I notice people are always looking for little seasonal projects! Surfboards, beach umbrella, a fruity lil drink, are things that come to mind for me!
The more i write the more ideas i think of but this ask is already huge lmaooo so ill leave with these and hopefully its not overwhelming
First of all I will not be out-rambled in my own house lets gooo
These are all so good and sensible and fun! Thank you so much! I spent a day and a half sketching out just some of them (and going off an a few tangents), and there are a few already that I can't wait to actually pattern up and make <3
Tumblr media
Musical instruments and notation are both perfect and super hard for the format. They're so detailed, like you said, and their design is so specific; it's hard to know what can be fudged or elided without getting the whole thing irredeemably wrong. (I've had the same problem with birds and arthropods). Like, how many of the saxophone's fourteen-hundred eldritch appendages *do* I need to show? I could include them all, and the motif would be the size of a bedspread and take a month and a half to crochet, and I perversely want to do that now so thanks also for that.
Even in that keyboard motif (which, you'll have to trust me, is a very good likeness of Casio keyboard whose demo song was the soundtrack to my early childhood) is already over twice width of my largest typical designs, and it would have to be twice as big still for me to space the keys accurately.
Tumblr media
Decades are a great organizing conceit! They lend themselves to a kind of idiosyncratic hodgepodge that really appeals to me, and "random collection of old things that you remember" is a trope people don't seem to ever get sick of—and new things are getting old every day. They're also a way to ease into pop culture references, which I haven't really done, and which might offset some of my Debbie-Downer tendencies (when you suggested "70s things" my actual first thought was "what do quaaludes even look like?" My first idea for the 80s was "Margaret Thatcher demolishing a council house," and my thought process for the 90s went "Monica Lewinsky's dress, OJ Simpson's gloves, Tonya Harding's crowbar… NAFTA?" Terrible patches, all. What people want as a little picture of a sofa at a jaunty angle with a caption that says "PIVOT!").
Anyway. I'm especially excited to try the disco ball, the record and the off-brand Tamagotchi (I preferred Gigapets, personally). Those all have double-length diagonals that I've freehanded a few times and know to work at least okay, but which I haven't figured out how to notate. Oh! and I haven't got a beach umbrella that I like just yet, but the hurricane cocktail seems like a good way to kick off a summer collection—as long as I don't follow it up with, like a graph of yearly average temperatures, which is something I would absolutely do.

Why Print Is Still An Important Aspect Of Your Marketing
Tumblr media
Print advertising is still an important part of your marketing strategy. Not only does print reach people where they live, work, and play, but it also connects with more customers than any other form of advertising.
Here are 6 reasons why printed marketing materials should continue to be a vital part of your overall strategy:
Print is comfortable.
Print is comfortable because it is familiar. You have seen print in your life for so long, it just feels like home to you. Think about it—you probably have a stack of magazines in your bathroom waiting for the next time you get a chance to read them. Or perhaps you have some business cards from an event or trade show that you will likely never use but they are too good not to keep forever. Print is comfortable because it makes us feel safe and secure like we are at home with our blankets and cats sleeping by our side.
Print is easy to read.
We don’t need glasses or light shining directly on the page like on a tablet or computer screen; instead, we can focus on content without having to strain our eyes trying to figure out what those tiny letters mean up there! Plus, when people see small fonts they immediately think “this must be important” rather than “this must be something I want nothing to do with.” It’s true! That’s why magazine covers usually feature large text captions along with smaller subheadings throughout their articles too.
Print also offers other advantages over digital media, such as being easier/cheaper/more cost-effective overall while providing more value over time. If you really think about it, electronic media tends to become outdated quickly without proper maintenance.
Print is tangible.
Print is a physical product that can be touched, held, and shared with others. Print has a physical presence that exists in the real world—not on your computer screen or in your phone’s digital vault.
Print is also more permanent than digital marketing. You may post something to Facebook and have it disappear into the abyss after 24 hours; print stays around for much longer because of its physical nature.
Print has been around since cavemen started drawing on walls with rocks, but today it still plays an important role in our lives because it represents our identity as consumers—and brands take advantage of this fact by incorporating themselves into our daily lives through print ads, newsletters, and other forms of printed communication.
Print is versatile.
You can use print for many different things, and it’s because of this versatility that print remains an important aspect of your marketing.
Print allows you to target audiences in a variety of ways. For example, flyers are great for reaching out to local customers or people who live nearby. Meanwhile, posters are ideal for getting attention from passersby and encouraging them to visit your store or website. Other types of print include business cards and magazine ads—and don’t forget about billboards! These offer a great deal of exposure on high-traffic roads throughout the city or town where they’re placed.
Whether you’re looking for general consumer advertising or B2B marketing (business-to-business), print has something to offer everyone involved in the process—which means that using this medium could lead you toward better results than other forms might provide.
Print is flexible.
Print is a versatile medium. It can be used in many different ways and is flexible in terms of its format, distribution, and usage.
Take the example of a business card:
Use it as an effective networking tool at events, conferences, or trade shows.
Give it out to clients to keep your brand top-of-mind when they need your services next time around.
Leave it with someone who you think could become a key contact in your industry (such as another business owner).
Print is long-lasting.
As we mentioned, digital media can become quickly outdated as new content is uploaded and constantly changing, whereas print has staying power. It can be kept for years, decades, and even generations to come with proper storage. And it doesn’t need batteries or electricity either!
For example, printing your logo on a quality t-shirt or cap ensures that you are always remembered by your clients when they wear it out in public and spread the word about your brand. When you add images from social media onto printed products like mugs and mouse mats, it gives them an extra touch of personality that makes them stand out from all their competitors – after all, who would want to drink their tea or coffee out of a plain mug?!
Print connects with more customers.
Print is a tactile medium. It’s a real-world experience that allows customers to feel, touch, and interact with your brand in a way that digital can’t.
Print also connects with more customers than digital alone. You’re just not going to get the same response from having an ad on someone’s phone as you would from handing them something tangible like a business card or brochure.
Print has been proven time and time again to be more personal than any other form of marketing because it forces your customer to stop and pay attention at least for a second (if not longer). And what better way is there to get someone’s attention than by giving them something they want?
There’s still a place for print in your marketing strategy.
Print is not dead. There’s still a place for print in your marketing strategy. It’s not just about brochures, flyers, and magazines anymore though—we’re talking about banner ads, billboards, and other forms of outdoor advertising. The role that print plays has changed from traditional marketing communications to customer acquisition and retention through touchpoints like direct mail campaigns and newsletters.
Print can be a great way to reach out to general consumers with instant gratification (you get what you see). For B2B companies, it can serve as an enticing reminder of a brand or product offering while also providing useful information or data—especially when used in combination with digital channels like email marketing campaigns or websites where there is more space for complex messaging options than say a billboard might afford you!
Conclusion
So, what does this all mean for you?
Don’t think of print as a relic of the past. It is still an important aspect of your marketing strategy, and it will continue to be so for years to come. Print can reach more customers than ever before, especially when paired with other forms like email or social media. Plus, it offers a tangible connection that most digital ads lack! Just remember that while there are many advantages associated with printed material, they also require careful planning from start to finish—from choosing colors and fonts to choosing the type of paper stock and printing presses.

This could be so good with Tom. Imagine you’re shopping with the boys as well 🤍
stop 😭 😭 he’d get so flustered bye
( for those of u who don’t wanna watch the tiktok, it’s captioned “when your boyfriend wears sweats to target so you try to get him hard at every chance u get” )
(that being said, this is a warning for major boners & boner related talks, lol)
wc: 1.3k
A quick trip to the supermarket meant neither you nor Tom (or any of the other boys, for that matter) bothered with changing into appropriate clothes. You basically went in your pajamas — for you, that meant Tom’s hoodie and flannel pants. For Tom, however, that meant his favorite jumper, a beanie, and a sexy pair of grey sweatpants.
Tom sits beside you in the driver’s seat, once again debating with Harry if the house needs another set of ridiculous pots for the backyard garden. It’s been an ongoing debate of “we need fairy-themed ones!” to “the ones we have are perfectly fine!” You’re not sure if you should get involved at all.
A buzz in your pocket alerts you that someone must have texted you, so you pull your phone out. In a text, your friend had sent you a TikTok and added her own message.
aisha: this is so something u would do
Intrigued, you tap on the link. It successfully takes you to the app, and after impatiently waiting, you watch as the girl in the video teases her boyfriend in various places in the supermarket. You smirk to yourself, glancing up to make sure nobody else has managed to see what you’re viewing on your phone. Quickly, you save the video and text your friend back.
you: im so doing this. we’re heading to the store now. i’ll update with the vid soon.
Not a second later, she responds.
aisha: you’re evil.
aisha: and i envy you
The next ten minutes go by in a blur. You figure out how to format the video and, after brief bickering between Sam and Harrison about who gets to sit in the cart, the six of you pile into the store.
You head to the produce section first. (You’re not sure why. Every single time, you tell them the delicate vegetables should be piled on top of everything else, meaning you attend to this section of the store last. It seems like nobody else cares about squished tomatoes, though.)
The boys split up; Harry and Tuwaine team up on the broccoli section, managing to get the gross Brussel sprouts Tom loves more than you. Harrison goes off towards the fruits and Sam stays put in the cart.
Tom manages to take control of where the cart is going and he parks in front of the barrel of onions. Sam holds open the bag while Tom picks and chooses the ones he wants. Pondering how to go about this, you finally decide to just go for it.
“Don’t get that one,” you interject, stepping forward. “Get this one, and the one over there.”
Tom nods, not thinking much about the situation. You decide to keep moving forward, but instead of going around the cart, you squeeze yourself in between the shelves and Tom, successfully rubbing up against his crotch. Faintly, you hear his breath hitch, and after walking away, you quickly turn around to see Tom. You’ve ducked from his view, but he’s staring at where you just were, exhaling deeply and trying to maintain his composure.
You know this “look” better than anything. Quickly, you whip out your phone and begin recording the first part of your TikTok. You snicker to yourself, watching as Tom sets the bag of onions in the cart and quickly puts his hands in front of his crotch. You’re knee-deep in your own laughter when Harry and Tuwaine curiously come up to you.
Hastily, you shut your phone off and shove it in your pocket, standing up straight and acting as normal as possible.
“What was-”
“Nothing. Did you guys get the lettuce?”
“Yeah…” Harry trails off suspiciously. They decide to let it slide, and the three of you make your way back over to the cart.
“We done here?” Tuwaine asks. Murmured yes’s float around and the six of you leave the produce section and head off to the pharmacy section of the store.
“Do we need more toothpaste?”
“No, but we need more floss.”
“Ugh. Mouth stuff,” Harry groans.
You step closer to Tom, phone in hand, and you lean close to his ear. “Maybe we could do some mouth stuff later.” You whisper.
Tom’s eyes go wide and he looks at you in shock. You wear a proud smirk and grip your phone tighter, leaning close to him again and getting ready to record his reaction. “Y’know? Maybe I could suck your-”
“Stop it, Y/N,” he says firmly, eyeing you. You shrug in response, still wearing a proud smirk.
“What?” You say innocently.
Tom gets desperate and, after a few seconds, puts his hands on his knees for support — and paints it as if he’s leaning down to look for something on the shelf.
“Tom, mate, you good?” Harrison asks.
Tom looks up, exhales harshly, and nods. “Yep,” he stands, waddling off to another part of the aisle where you record, away from everyone else.
“What are you doing?” he whisper-shouts at you, still somewhat leaning on his knees.
“Nothing, daddy,” you say innocently. His eyes widen and he groans again, this time looking up at the ceiling in despair.
“Whatever game you two are playing, I really don’t want to be a part of it.” Harrison strides over.
“Yeah, you two have been acting weird all day. What’s up with that?” Sam asks.
You turn to Tom, teasingly clicking your tongue as a motivator for him to respond. “Yeah, Tommy. What’s the matter?”
“Nothing,” he says through clenched teeth and a forced smile.
Harry rolls his eyes and moves the cart to the next aisle, the rest of the boys trailing behind him. You and Tom linger a little longer.
“What’s on your mind, Tommy?”
“Nothing,” he seethes, leaning over again to conceal any bulge that may be visible.
“Oh yeah,” you stroke his cheek with a giggle before running a hand through his curls. “What’s going through that big brain of yours?” He only eyes you, and you bite your lip. “Something dirty?” You whisper.
“Y/N,” he drags on, whining.
“What?”
“Why are you doing this to me?” He squeezes his eyes shut.
“What?” You whisper back. “It’s not my fault you’re thinking of fucking me.”
“Jesus Christ love,” he goes back into his leaning position. You giggle again, being another recording for your tiktok.
“Shouldn’t have worn sweats,” you say quietly. “Why did you wear sweats?”
“Because I’m stupid,” he groans an “ugh,” and wipes the sweat off his forehead. “I’m a div, that’s why.”
You chuckle again, “Yeah, you are.”
“You’re evil,” he looks up. “And you’re recording this! I can’t believe you.”
“What?” You tease. “Not my fault you’re hard.”
“Yes it is!” he gasps, locking eyes with you. “Is that why you’re teasing me? Is this another one of those tickey clock things?”
“What?” You laugh in bewilderment, looking at your boyfriend as if he’s crazy.
“You know what I mean! Those- those prank your boyfriend videos!”
“...Yes…”
“Y/N!”
“Sorry!” You exclaim with a smile. “It’s just fun to see you all flustered for me,” you run a hand through his hair, and he eventually stands straight, successfully calming himself down. “You good?”
“Mhm,” he nods at you, reaching for one of your hands.
“Good,” you smile with a glint he almost recognizes.
“What’re you-”
“Let’s go to the lube section.”
“Y/NNN!”

🌈is there a fic that you worked *really fucking hard on* that no one would ever know? maybe a scene/theme you struggled with?
God, not trying to give too much away, but Issue 6 of Dethkomic is going to be a full-on brawl. Or it felt like one. Soooooo much foreshortening of body parts while punching and kicking and smacking people with guitars. That's always hard to pull off :D
Writing Cherry's final scenes in Dethkomic I of course. I had to take several moments. And then I had to take several more moments when Janet Strickland showed up at the end.
But really, when it comes to "hard to pull off and you would never guess..?" It's a tie:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The scene at the meeting room was hard because in order for that joke to pop off, I had to manage a shit-ton of characters talking, basically overtop of one another and all at once, while landing a multi-part joke coming from all sides of the fucking room. It was clear as day that I'd cut all over the place and be done with it, were this an animated show, but pulling it off in a comic was less clear. Plus, the delivery of the lines was also riding on the captions doing a lot of the work, so I had to find room for them, as well. A real bitch, but one I was quite happy with, in the end.
The other page here, with Toki's Sea Goofballs -- gee-golly, I don't imagine you would guess the headaches I went through unless you were intimately familiar with translating writing to comic book format. He flies in the room, the point being that we see he's still doing his best to avoid coming into contact with anyone, and the scene (which had just transferred over into Mordhaus' living room from the last page) goes right into Toki's room, where he finds his Goofballs dead. Then somehow, I gotta get that to carry back over into the living room again so we can see Nathan struggling to write. This kind of thing is, once again, easier to pull off in animation, but is kinda whiplash-y for a comic. The solution was to have Nathan telling Pickles to STFU in a quick one-line panel (and we see Toki running, not far off, behind him), cut to Toki's room, then cut back to Skwisgaar with snide commentary on his boyfriend's screaming. But my GOD did it take me a while to figure out how this one was gonna lay out. Hot damn.
Another good one!

“NO! No no no no.” Kathryn paces up and down in her hotel room. “HOW DID THEY KNOW?”
Jennifer, who is sitting on the couch, computer in her hands, looks at Agnes, who is leaning against the wall. “I’m so sorry, Kathryn.”
“This is a disaster!” She looks devastated.
“Actually, it’s press and any press is good press. PLUS, Jeffrey is a good catch.” Jennifer scans another article.
Kathryn paces towards her, takes the computer out of her hands and sits down on the couch herself as Jennifer gets up to give her some space. Leaning back into the pillows, the actress looks like a mess. A grey tank top falls loosely of her shoulders and her unbrushed hair frames her face that is in painful distress. She puts the computer down on the tiny desk next to the couch and reads an article discussing if Jeffrey and her are Hollywood’s new favorite couple.
The article promises an update and as she clicks on the link provided, she looks at very private pictures taken of herself in her hotel room. Someone must have added the numbers up and figured out where she was staying to stalk and observe her through the window that she, stupidly, didn’t close right away last night. A short series of pictures shows her in front of the window, Jeffrey behind her. Him right in front of her as he leans in for a kiss. Another one of her getting undressed. Another one of him in just his underwear during a photo shoot for another project.
Stressed and in disbelief, she doesn’t even finish reading the captions and quickly sits up again to smack the device closed. Shaking her head, she stares at the floor.
“Kathryn? Are you okay?” Agnes asks cautiously.
——-
“Honey? Are you okay?” Alex asks as you continuously stare at your screen with empty eyes.
You continue staring. “Y/N! You worry me.”
Alex sits down again and places the phone next to her so you look like you are sitting righty with her on the couch. She has been trying to calm you down ever since she got up this morning. Right as she read the first article, she knew the situation was bad.
“Hey… it’ll all make sense in the end. She wouldn’t do that. You know that! You know the press!” Alex really tries and you appreciate it, yet, right now, it’s hard for you to show your gratitude.
“Hm…” you hum and nod with empty eyes.
Ever since you’ve read the article, you have been waiting for Kathryn to reach out. She must have seen it. Jennifer must have seen it. Maybe they all did and it’s the truth and that’s why no one is saying anything.
Alex looks at you again. “It’s probably rumors! You know how it works.” More than ever before, she wishes she could simply wrap you you up in a long and loving hug and make you feel better. Sometimes, it’s hard for her to believe that you’ve been friends for as long as you have and the actress you are bonding about had more physical contact with you than she did. What a story to tell.
“I know,” you say, but the pictures keep being projected inside your head, “but the pictures. These… the pictures! His hands, the hotel, her not talking to me. It all just adds up.”
Alex sighs. You do, too. You both sit in silence.
———-
Still staring at the floor, Kathryn tenses. “Oh my god.”
The other woman stare at her with raised eyebrows.
“Y/N!! I was thinking about the press and all and totally forgot.. she must have read it! OH GOD. She… she…”
“You should probably call her…” Agnes nods.
Jennifer shakes her head. “Not now. You’re way too emotional over all of this. We should organize the press first. Write a statement if you really want to. But really, it isn’t that big of a deal.”
Agnes turns around harshly and faces Jennifer with a stern look on her face. “Excuse me, can you please be her friend again for a minute?” she points at Kathryn, “does she look like it’s not that big of a deal?”
They both face Kathryn again, who has gotten up to get dressed. Without another word, she walks past her friends and employees and storms out of the door, on her way to discuss the matter with Jeffrey.
Meanwhile, Jennifer decides to take matters into her own hands, since Kathryn seems to be way too distressed to hold a serious conversation today. Rumors about her client being with someone aren’t exactly new, but pictures taken of private situations are unacceptable. Without consulting Kathryn again, she decides to publish the statement right away to help her friend.
——-
It’s been two days since the incident and Kathryn hasn’t contacted you yet. Heartbroken, you got updated on the story as her team released a statement declaring that Kathryn wants to keep her privacy and asks for the pictures to be removed off of the internet.
You wish she would’ve called you, or at least texted, but little did you know that she got into a fight with Jeffrey as his team called the pictures good press for him and decided to not do anything about it. Following that, Jennifer took Kathryn’s phone away so that the actress could fully concentrate on the project for the rest of the week of shooting. A rule written into the contract by Kathryn herself, as she is aware she gets carried away from time to time.
Right as she has her phone back, she runs for an empty space and tries to call you. It’s the early afternoon and you are in an online class as your phone starts ringing. Reading her name, your heart drops to the floor. All the stress adds up and gets combined with the anger you feel inside of you. You take the call.
Her face fills the screen and her eyes widen as she sees the state you are in. “Honey, I’m so sorry.”
There is a moment of silence. A moment of silence where a storm is raging inside you. “NO. No. You don’t get to be like that. You don’t get to break my heart and then come back apologizing, asking me to pretend nothing happened!” Kathryn’s mouths is slightly agape and her even widen even more. She listens. “I gave you my heart, Kathryn! My time. Do you really think I’m whoring around? Staying with older woman to play round just like that? Is that what you think I am? A toy?”
You are enraged and the words keep coming and you want to call her names and scream, hold onto her and look into her eyes. But you can’t. You can’t and that’s why your words are turning into a waterfall of emotions and you yell at her as she doesn’t have a chance to react in any way.
“I can’t believe myself,” you shake your head. “I offer myself to you and there you are. Going out and sleeping with a man. A MAN. Excuse me for not having a career. Excuse me for not having a six pack like your new friend does. What the fuck, Kathryn. What the actual fuck.”
Kathryn realizes you saw the pictures. Of course you did. She raises her hand to give you a signal that she wants to talk. Your mouth, ready to rant again, closes and you look at her.
She takes a breath. “It isn’t true.”
“It…. Isn’t?” You squint your eyes.
“It isn’t.”

————
“Come and spend the night with me.”
Kathryn swirls around. “WHAT?”
Before she can help herself, she finds herself pinned against a table that is close to the window. Jeffreys face is only inches away as he slowly starts to lean in.
“STOP.” She says and tries to lean back.
Obviously confused, Jeffrey looks at her. “I thought we had a great night. What’s the problem, sweetheart? Don’t you miss having with… other people?” He smiles.
Kathryn shakes her head. “I’m… I’m seeing someone, Jeffrey. I’m sorry if this came across wrong but tonight wasn’t a date.”
He distances himself from her, utter disbelief plastered across his face. “Oh no.”
“Don’t worry, it’s not a problem. I just… I can’t. You’re a great man, but, no.”
He is still putting space in between them, looking at her with worried eyes. “Kathryn, I would’ve never. I thought you were flirting. I thought you sent signs. God, I am sorry for coming this close to you.. I… I’m just gonna leave, alright? Okay! Good night, Kathryn.”
“JEFF!” She calls for him before he can close the door. “You’re a good looking man. I bet lots of woman would kill to be me right now, but please, ask. Don’t just assume. Yeah?”
He nods and with that he leaves her room. As the door falls into its lock, Kathryn undresses her blazer and shirt and remembers to close the curtains before stripping completely to hop into the shower.
—————-
“It isn’t…..” you repeat.
“No. And I would never do that to you.” She looks at you with sad eyes. “And I can’t believe you would think I do.”
You look at each other for a moment and the sad smile on her face breaks your heart once again.
“I would never….” She repeats, whispering quietly, but loud enough for you to notice. “I would never, because….”
She stops and looks up to lock eyes with you. You are both crying and your heartbeat skips a few beats and you think you might actually pass out any second.
“I would never because I am falling. For you. I would never because I think I am in love with you.”

Story Masterlist
Word Count: 2333
Warnings: Some language? I can’t think of anything else
% approximately the 3rd week of October %
Friday evening, the volleyball team arrived at the town regionals were being held at, about an hour away. You were staying in a hotel again, and as before, Julia was your buddy.
After having spent the evening laughing and having fun, your whole hotel room group was about to head up the stairs.
“Hey, y/n. Do you mind staying back for a minute?” Julia asked.
“Oh, sure. We’ll meet you guys upstairs,” you called to the other two, who waved back nonchalantly and continued walking. Julia and you went back to some empty seats near the lobby.
“What’s up?” you asked, smiling.
“Well… Sam told me he caught you and Tom yesterday and I just wanted to ask you about it…”
Your smile faltered.
“What’s there to talk about? I told him that Tom sprayed me with water so I got back at him by soaking the back of his shirt. There’s nothing more to say.”
“Well, yeah, he told me that but he also mentioned that you stayed for dinner? And met Nikki’s parents last weekend? Not trying to imply anything, but I didn’t meet their grandparents until Sam and I had been dating for like 6 months.”
You were getting annoyed, considering this was the second person in two days to ask you about Tom.
“I didn’t just meet them over nothing! Nikki took my senior pictures at the same time as Tom’s and wanted to do them there. I was just tagging along for the ride.”
“You know he’s also coming to state next weekend, right? If we pass through tomorrow?”
He is?
“Uh, no I didn’t. Doesn’t he have football stuff to worry about? It’s also Halloween next weekend, like he’d miss out on the big party.”
“They have a bye next week. Sam is going to come and I guess Tom is taking him, but Nikki might come too? I’m not sure. I guess you’d better ask him. Anyways, I just wanted to clear things up since there were all those rumors today,” she said, starting to get up.
“Wait, wai- Rumors? I never heard anything. Like about me?”
“You haven’t heard? I guess one of the freshman girls who has a massive crush on Tom was stalking Nikki’s website last night and saw some pictures of the two of you. A bunch of people think you’re dating now.”
You felt yourself pale.
“Oh no, and she changed one picture after Tom asked her to. Do you know what the picture was?”
“Something about him carrying you..? I never saw it, why?”
“Great. Now everyone is going to think she changed it because a secret got out or something. Ughhhh I just wish this stupid marriage project had never happened and I would never be in this mess.”
Julia looked at you contemplatively for a moment.
“Think of it this way, you and Tom are friends now, right?” you apprehensively nodded. “If it weren’t for that project, you two would still be fighting all the time and you wouldn’t have had the incredible Nikki Holland taking your pictures. Everyone can just get over themselves, you know?”
You snorted, then grinned.
“Yeah I guess so. You know, you’re annoyingly wise beyond your years,” you stated. “Now let’s get back upstairs. We have a long day ahead of us.”
%
Placing first at regionals meant two things: you were going to state, and everyone was congratulating you again when Monday came.
They also kinda looked at you funny when Tom high fived you in the hallway as he passed by, but you had decided to follow Julia’s advice and stop caring about the rumors people were spreading.
Once the morning announcements ended, your calculus teacher stood up, a small paper stack in hand.
“Okay, everyone, since I’m your first period teacher and homecoming is next week, today you get to cast your nomination votes. Y’all know the drill: three guys, three girls for king and queen. Try to make it fast, we have a lot to do today.”
She walked around handing out half-sheets of paper with six lines on them. You and Tom immediately looked at each other.
“We nominating each other?” Tom asked before you could.
“Wouldn’t have it any other way,” you joked, filling out the sheet with both of your names and four others.
In home ec, you sat next to Tom cutting fabric for yet another project you had to do together, thinking about something Julia had mentioned.
“Hey, I gotta ask you something. Is it true you’re going to the capital this weekend for our state tournament?” you asked.
“Oh, yeah. This is our bye week and I promised Sam I’d go with him and mom. Plus, we can work on the project when you’re free.”
“You do realize that’s like a four hour drive, right? I mean it’s Halloween this weekend. Wouldn’t you rather make an appearance at Johnny’s big blowout?”
“Eh, it won’t be that great. I mean his place isn’t even that big and it’s in town. There’s literally no way it won’t get busted within the first half hour. The homecoming party at Tyler’s however… that’s gonna be insane.”
“Okay Johnny’s trash party aside, you really would rather spend your one free weekend of the season four hours away watching girls play volleyball then at home doing… whatever it is you do. And please don’t tell me you watch the ‘hub in your spare time.”
“Come on, y/n I’m not an animal. Even without the tight uniforms volleyball is really cool.”
You backhanded his arm at the comment.
“Plus, I don’t need any videos to get myself off,” he added, smirking.
“You disgust me.”
“You know you love me.”
“Hmm. Debatable,” you shot back dryly, earning a chuckle and shoulder bump from him as you finally cracked.
%
At lunch, your friends were discussing the Halloween party when you sat down.
“Okay we really need to figure out what to wear this weekend, and we’re not going as playboy bunnies like Daisy and all her group,” said one girl.
“Well I say we dress as frat boys. It’s funny, not super sexual, and we all know half the guys are going to rush next year,” suggested Caroline.
“I like it, but what if we went a step further and dressed as dads. You know, hawaiian shirts, khaki shorts, socks and sandals. That would be hilarious. What do you think, y/n?” said Alexis.
“Sorry ladies, I won’t be there. We have state this weekend at the capital so as always, we’re driving down Friday after school. I will be at Tyler’s homecoming thing next weekend. Also, I do really like the dad thing, but I vote y’all do Guy Fieri.”
“Wait why is that literally genius,” Alexis said as the others agreed. “Of course it would suck to take your idea without you even getting to do it.”
“You guys really think I care? Just credit me in your insta captions. I’ll make the team put ribbons with flames on them in their ponytails Saturday.”
“Okay now we have to do it,” a different friend said.
“Hey, at least you won’t have to worry about Tom. I’m sure he’ll be at the party,” Caroline said. You wrinkled your nose.
“Yeah about that… His brother’s girlfriend is on the team so he’s going, too. I’m the one that’ll be seeing him instead of you guys but whatever. We’ll need to work on our project anyways.”
“Don’t you think that’ll fuel the fires people are already spreading about you? A good portion of the school thinks you’re secretly together now,” added the first friend from before.
“People are going to believe whatever the hell they want. I honestly don’t care anymore. Oh! By the way, did I tell you guys that some freshman was the one spreading shit about me Friday? The nerve those kids have,” you said.
“Wait, what? It was a freshman that was trying to tell everyone y’all are together? Ugh why would anyone believe them?” Alexis asked, incredulous.
“I know, right? Apparently she’s like obsessed with Tom or something. She must have a backwards way of thinking if she believes spreading fake rumors will make him want her. Jokes on her when she has to see us together on homecoming court. He’s just as likely to be voted as I am, maybe even more.”
The group all laughed and continued talking about random things, and you mentally wiped the sweat from your brow now that the conversation was shifted from you and Tom.

You were nervously bouncing your leg before calculus Friday morning. You’d gotten to school early to make certain you would be there for the announcements, which is when they would be releasing the list of nominees.
Tom came in a couple minutes before the bell, hair still wet from his post workout shower. Usually he blow dried it, and he obviously noticed you looking at his curls, your knee bouncing anxiously.
“Got out of the weight room late so I rushed over here. What are you wired up about, princess?”
“Do I really have to tell you? Homecoming noms.”
“You’re actually nervous about that? Everyone knows you’re already at the top of the list.”
“Uh, no, that’s you. After everything that’s happened the past few weeks, there’s no telling how people feel about me.”
“Oh you’ll be fine. I know it,” Tom finished. You wanted to disagree with him further, but then the bell rang and announcements began. After the general daily stuff, they got to the part everyone was waiting for.
You were on the edge of your seat. The disembodied voice began with the underclassmen’s court nominations, eventually working up to the senior king contestants.
“Alright, first up in the running for kings we have… Tuwaine Barrett!”
Tuwaine was a cool dude. He played basketball and was in theatre. You were happy to see him nominated.
“Next up we’ve got Harrison Osterfield!”
Ugh. I’d rather abdicate the throne than end up against him.
“And finally for the boys, Tom Holland!”
A small cheer went up in your classroom as people congratulated Tom and patted him on the back. You gave him a high five.
“And now for the ladies. First on the list is Zendaya Coleman!”
Ah Zendaya. You were never that close, but she was always nice when you’d had classes with her. She was way taller than you, a star player on the basketball and softball teams. Not to mention she was insanely gorgeous. This was already some stiff competition.
“Second, we have Daisy Ridley!”
And of course another likely contender. Daisy, who was planning on going to that evening’s Halloween party as a playboy bunny, was a cheerleader. She didn’t fit every aspect of the cheer stereotype, like the fact that she was actually really smart, but she definitely wasn’t the nicest person either.
“And finally, your last nominee for homecoming queen is… y/n y/l/n!”
It took a second to fully process that it was you they were talking about until there were people cheering you on like they’d done for Tom. He reciprocated the high five.
“What’d I tell you princess? Or shall I say queen.”

Tom was leaving football practice after the bell when a few of his buddies appeared next to him to walk across the parking lot.
They were talking when Tom saw you all loading the bus, and you sent each other a wave.
“Damn, y/n’s not gonna be at the party tonight? That’s rough, she always has the dopest costumes. ‘Least you will. What are you going as?” one guy, Jake, said.
“Did I not tell you? I’m going out of town. Won’t be there. I totally would’ve been Spider-Man though,” Tom explained.
“Wait you won’t be there tonight either?” another, Chris, asked. “You’re gonna miss out on some major exposure for homecoming votes.”
“Oh yeah, right. I’m pretty sure things are in the bag for me. I’ll just be gone tonight and tomorrow. Promised Sam I’d go to the volleyball thing with him.”
“Wait, wait, wait. You. Are going to the capital. Which is four hours away. At the same time as y/n. Am I hearing this right?” Jake asked as they finally reached their cars.
“Oh shut up, man. It’s not like that. Yeah we’ll be at the same place this weekend but whatever. We’re cool with each other now.”
“Cool? Is that code for ‘I want to make out every time I look at her?’” interjected Chris. He and Jake gave each other a look and laughed.
“Ugh, no. I’d kiss a salmon before I kissed y/n. I just meant we’ve come to an understanding and are somewhat friends now.”
They both looked at him funny.
“So you mean to tell me that there’s nothing going on between you two? Yeah right. We’ve all seen the way you look at her at games,” Jake said suggestively.
“What is up with you and everyone else at this school thinking there’s more to the story?! We are fake married for a school project and are nothing more than friends. You’re crazy to think otherwise.”
“Who are you planning on asking to the dance?” Chris asked, seemingly out of nowhere.
“What? What do you mean? I haven’t even thought about it.”
“I’m asking who you’ll take to homecoming. It’s y/n, isn’t it?”
“No. No, it’s not, because I haven’t asked anyone.”
“Would you go with her?” Chris continued, pressing in.
“I mean I guess so. If we’re voted king and queen then it’ll basically be an obligation.”
“And if you’re not?”
“Dude why are you asking all these questions! If she isn’t queen then I’ll go with whoever is. If I’m not king, I’ll just go solo and see what happens. Whatever, though, I need to get home. I’ll see you guys Monday,” Tom finished.
He walked off to his car, where his brothers were impatiently waiting.

Tumblr media
This was not how movie night was supposed to have gone.
You’d had a rough day at work, only looking forward to one thing all day—having all your friends over for your monthly movie night that inevitably always ended up as a mess. Your co-worker, Yugyeom, and his best friend Bambam were usually the culprits, turning every movie into a drinking game. You’d come to expect it after the third time you’d had to push Bam out before he puked on your carpet.
Your two bedroom apartment was barely big enough for you, your roommate, and your four closest guy friends, but you made it work every month and it was just what you’d needed tonight after the day you’d had.
It wasn’t usually difficult work managing a bookstore, but this week had been one of your lowest yet with sales, and you’d had to field multiple customer complaints as well as employee drama. It’d been enough to build tension in your shoulders and make you especially thirsty for Yugyeom’s special sodas—three parts alcohol, one part Sprite.
It didn’t help that you’d just seen your longtime crush, Jaebeom, post on his Instagram story that he was out with a mystery girl you didn’t recognize but had everything you didn’t. Stylish clothes, ridiculous curves, natural beauty, and most importantly, she had Jaebeom.
You’d been pining after Jaebeom for as long as you could remember—since you were in middle school with him and Jinyoung, at least. You’d had a decent amount of boyfriends in the ten years that had passed since then, yet you couldn’t shake your infatuation.
To make your infatuation even worse, three weeks ago, you’d been out with the guys and when you ran into Jaebeom, he was three shots deep and you ended up making out with him in the men’s bathroom. It wasn’t quite the romantic encounter you’d built up in your head, but still. He had a way of kissing you that made you feel like maybe he’d been wanting you just as badly this entire time. But then that was it—besides a couple of random text messages, you’d barely spoken to him since then.
So you’d gone a little overboard and ended up on the kitchen floor, your head resting on your roommate Sana’s lap while Transformers played in the living room and the boys argued over autobots and decepticons.
“I just—he texted me last week, I told you, right? He asked what I was doing, but it was two in the morning so I didn’t see it until I woke up...”
Sana stroked your hair and let out an exasperated sigh. “You want me to be honest with you, right?”
“Yes, please.”
“Jaebeom is a textbook fuckboy. He texted you because he was horny and his other playthings probably ignored him, so you were likely the first female’s name that he saw while scrolling through his contacts.”
It was a harsh truth, but deep down you knew she was right. Still, it wasn’t so easy to just brush it off and forget about it. You couldn’t help wondering what exactly was wrong with you, why you weren’t good enough for him. Sure, you were a little bookish, and you weren’t skilled in the art of seduction, but he had kissed you. That meant something, didn’t it?
“Besides, I don’t even get why you like him so much. He doesn’t even have a real job—“
You interrupted, “He’s a musician!”
“—I said a real job. He’s not a musician, he’s a DJ that sometimes posts half assed thirty second clips on Soundcloud with vaguely sexual titles.”
You pouted, knowing that she was right, and buried your face into her lap. “But he’s so pretty,” you whined.
Sana rubbed your back like the good best friend she was. “I know, Y/N. I know. But he’s a scumbag, and there are better guys out there. Like, millions of them. He’s not worth laying on your kitchen floor crying over.”
“Who’s she crying over?”
You lifted your head to see Jinyoung standing in the kitchen doorway with the empty bowl of popcorn. Sighing, you pulled yourself up from the floor and slumped against the counter. “Is Jaebeom dating someone?”
Jinyoung raised an eyebrow and set down the popcorn bowl, then grabbed a fresh beer out of the fridge. “How should I know?”
“I don’t know, you’ve known him forever,” you replied with a shrug. “Don’t guys like, tell each other that stuff?”
“No,” Jinyoung answered with a snort. “We say, ‘hey, what’s up, man? How’s life?’ And then we give a noncommittal response, say we should grab a drink sometime to catch up, and then we never do.”
You pursed your lips together, crossing your arms. “Well, he posted one of those mirror selfies with some girl I’ve never seen before. The caption was ‘late night with bae’.”
You were saved a snarky response from Sana when there was a sudden raise in the volume in the living room, indicating the guys were getting out of hand again. Someone was yelling about spilled soju and Bambam was making noise simply to make noise, it seemed.
“If they stained the couch, I’m going to kill them,” she muttered before huffing off, prepared to put her foot down and wrangle the boys back to a reasonable sound level. Your neighbors had already called the landlord last week when Jackson stood out on the balcony belting out Boyz II Men at passing men and women.
While Jinyoung rinsed out the popcorn bowl, you scrutinized him. He was an acceptable man, right? He had a steady job at a publishing house, he was polite, kind, and made you laugh. He always surprised you with advanced copies of your most anticipated reads and he was probably the source of half the sales at your store. And yet, there were no butterflies when you looked at him. Not like there were when you saw Jaebeom.
But he was attractive, objectively. Jackson had told you the last time you’d bothered him for advice that the best way to get over someone was to get under someone new. And sex didn’t always have to mean anything between friends...
“Why are you staring?” Jinyoung asked when he finally noticed you were practically studying him.
You shook your head quickly. “Nothing.”
After grabbing a water bottle to sober up, you headed back into the living room to finish watching the movie. Clearly this train of thought was the result of too many special sodas, considering you’d never once in your life looked at Jinyoung as more than a close friend. It had always been about Jaebeom for you.
Besides, he’d dated Yeri for five years. Two of those were long distance while she studied in the states, and they’d broken up just a couple of months ago not long after she returned. Maybe that was why you’d never seen him as an option.
Two hours later, Bambam and Yugyeom had abandoned your movie night after being invited out to a new club by some pretty girls. It was predictable at this point, and you’d rather have them getting smashed out on the streets than in your apartment.
Sana had left you, Jackson, and Jinyoung with the task of cleaning up fallen popcorn and throwing away the many empty bottles scattered throughout the apartment. She’d cleaned up last month, it was your turn this time.
You felt almost sober by the time everything was cleaned up and Jackson left to meet up with the other boys, unable to resist a night out. By the time you collapsed onto the couch and switched the TV off, the only remains of your alcohol was the heaviness in your limbs.
Jinyoung dropped onto the couch next to you, propping his feet up on the coffee table. “Tired?” he asked you, brows raised.
“A little.” You shrugged and pulled your legs onto the couch underneath of you, wrapping your arms around yourself. “Mostly just exhausted from the week. I think it’s just now hitting me.”
“Mm,” he agreed, letting his head fall back against the back of the couch. “Me too. Tonight’s the first time I got to leave the office before eight o’clock.”
You scoffed, shaking your head at him. “You work too hard.”
Jinyoung chuckled. “I like my job. I enjoy the work, most of the time. Keeps my mind occupied.”
That, you understood. You’d always been one to ignore your life’s problems by throwing yourself into work, and you knew it was one of the reasons you’d never had a successful relationship and found it hard to keep friends outside of the circle you’d always had.
Or, there could have been one other reason you hadn’t ever been able to stay with one person for too long—Jaebeom. As pathetic as it sounded, you’d always compared other guys to him, and they fell short every time.
You caught your mind wandering to him yet again and mentally slapped yourself. That was it, you had to find a way to forget about him. Once and for all.
“How did you get over Yeri?” You asked, somewhat abruptly. It caught Jinyoung off guard, you could tell. He’d been broken up with her for almost two months now, and hadn’t mentioned her in almost as long.
Jinyoung furrowed his eyebrows, chewing at his lip for a moment as if carefully choosing his words. “I don’t— I mean, maybe I’m not. Over her.”
Now it was your turn to be surprised. “You’re not? But it’s been two months, and I just kind of figured...”
He shrugged. “Some days are better than others. But every now and then, I feel like... like I’m still waiting for her to come back, and my whole life is on pause until she does.”
As far as you knew, Yeri had been the one to end things. Jinyoung was just too busy with work, he stayed late almost every night and she’d gotten tired of trying to schedule quality time with him weeks in advance. At least, that was as much as Jackson had told you.
You had no idea it would still be weighing on him, though. Jinyoung, of all people, was rarely shaken by anything. Always calm, calculated, and steady. No matter how long you’d known him, this was possibly the most he’d ever opened up to you.
“Sana thinks I need to get over my crush on Jaebeom,” you said as a slight change in subject, mostly because you had no experience in comforting Jinyoung and couldn’t begin to think of a proper response. “You know, for good.”
“You do,” Jinyoung responded with a light chuckle. “You’ve been obsessing over him since we were teenagers, and I have no idea why.”
You propped your sock covered feet on the coffee table, tipping your head back against the couch. “I don’t really know, either. I guess I just always thought... he’d settle down and want something serious, you know? He’d be done with the partying, the one night stands, the DJing, and he’d want...”
Trailing off, you chose not to finish the sentence because it was just too pathetic to say out loud. He’d want me.
Jinyoung was silent for a while before he leaned his shoulder into yours, a subtle gesture of comfort. “You deserve a lot better than him.”
When you were silent in response, Jinyoung nudged you again, more firmly this time. “Hey, you believe me, right? Don’t waste your worries on him, Y/N. There really are millions of better guys out there.”
Truthfully, you wanted to believe Jinyoung but there was still that nagging voice at the back of your head. Every relationship you’d ever had, and there weren’t many, had ended terribly. You’d been cheated on, lied to, and straight up ghosted. It was hard not to think maybe you were the problem.
You weren’t the most beautiful girl out there, you’d accepted that long ago. Not that you were hideous, but you knew there wasn’t much about your appearance that stood out to the average passerby. Looks weren’t everything, but they were still important.
“Would you have sex with me?” You blurted, realizing maybe you weren’t so sober after all. “I mean, hypothetically?”
Jinyoung’s eyes widened and he stifled a cough, looking at you like you had two heads. “Sorry?”
“I mean,” you cleared your throat and stood up in front of him. Long sweater, leggings, faded makeup and all. “You’re a guy. If you saw me at a bar, or just walking on the street. Would you want to have sex with me?”
The tips of Jinyoung’s ears instantly turned a deep shade of pink and it looked for a moment as if he was trying to keep his eyes anywhere except your body. “I—“ he shook his head, then finally made eye contact with you. “Yes.”
It was a new feeling, seeing Jinyoung flustered like this. It didn’t happen often, but you had to bite your lip to keep from grinning. It occurred to you, suddenly, that Jackson might have been onto something.
“Do you want to... now?” You asked, faking confidence. Sex between friends didn’t have to mean anything, and you both had people you needed to get over. It made sense, at the end of the day. And you trusted him, you realized—a lot.
“Stop being ridiculous,” Jinyoung replied, shaking his head once more. “Why are you asking this right now?”
You took a deep breath. “You want to get over Yeri. I want to get over Jaebeom. It makes sense, right? We’re adults, we’re friends, and it wouldn’t be anything more than physical. Whenever we need to let off some steam or get our minds off of them, we can help each other.”
He looked away again, but you could tell with the way his jaw worked that he was considering it. Still, maybe he was the wrong person to ask. Jinyoung had never had casual sex, at least not that you knew of. He was a serious relationship kind of guy. You may have been better off asking one of the other guys.
“Okay.”
When he answered, your eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Really?”
“You might have a point,” Jinyoung admitted. “Part of the reason I can’t get over Yeri is because she’s the only girl I’ve ever been with. Memories of her are everywhere. But maybe,” he sighed, running his tongue over his lips. “Maybe we could make some new ones.”
The corner of your lip quirked up and you felt the satisfaction of winning, which truly didn’t happen often with Jinyoung. He was one of the most stubborn people you’d ever known, always having a comeback or a way to turn it around in his own favor.
“So...” you started, trying to hide your fidgeting fingers in the sleeves of your sweater. You decided to just go for it, lowering yourself onto the couch with your knees on either side of Jinyoung’s hips.
It felt awkward. This was your childhood friend, and you were about to have sex with him with absolutely no feelings involved. But as you settled onto his lap and he slid his hands up your thighs, you began to relax.
“So,” Jinyoung repeated, gripping your waist under your sweater. His hands were big and warm, and you instantly felt safe in his grasp. “I’m going to kiss you now. Is that okay?”
When you nodded, Jinyoung leaned in slowly and carefully until his lips just barely brushed yours. He was gentle at first, until you tilted your head and kissed him back, your hands resting experimentally against his solid chest.
To be honest, it wasn’t bad. Jinyoung’s lips were soft and plump, and he kissed politely, waiting for permission to deepen it further.
So you gave it to him, sliding your arms around his neck and bringing your body flush against his, allowing his tongue entrance into your mouth. The two of you kissed until you were breathless, and you silently thanked the gods that Sana was a deep sleeper and there was little to no chance she’d walk in on you with your tongue down Jinyoung’s throat.
As polite as Jinyoung was, he didn’t hesitate to trace his hands up your bare sides, leaving goosebumps in his wake. It had been so long since you’d been touched like this, you’d forgotten how good it felt to be pressed up against a warm body, both of you desperately trying to get closer.
Even though he’d agreed to sleep with you, for some reason you were still surprised when you felt him harden underneath you. Part of you had been expecting him to end up repulsed or chicken out.
Something about the way he felt underneath of you had you rolling your hips into his, the obvious bulge in his pants pressing between your thighs just right. You let out a breathy moan into the kiss and Jinyoung pulled you down against him more firmly, one of his hands slipping down between your legs to rub you through your leggings.
A surprised moan slipped out and Jinyoung pulled away abruptly, his eyes searching your face for any sign of discomfort. “Is that okay?”
You nodded quickly, grabbing his wrist and pressing his fingers back against your clit, sending warmth throughout your entire body. “Feels good,” you whispered, and you swore you felt Jinyoung’s cock twitch in his jeans.
“Bedroom?” Jinyoung asked, his fingers still drawing slow circles that were starting to make your brain fuzzy.
“Please,” you responded, and before you could make a move to stand up, Jinyoung was grabbing your thighs and wrapping them around his waist, lifting you from the couch like you weighed nothing. When had he gotten so strong?
He somehow got you to the bedroom smoothly, only stopping once to press you into the hallway and scatter kisses across your neck. Then he finally set you down after shutting your bedroom door behind you and you took the opportunity to lift his shirt up over his head.
You knew Jinyoung worked out regularly, but you had no idea he looked like that under his clothes. A firm chest, wide shoulders, and an actual six pack. If you’d known he was this ripped, maybe you would’ve tried to make this arrangement sooner.
“Seriously?” You asked, running your fingers down the lines of his abs. “Have you always looked like this?”
Jinyoung’s ears flushed again. “You know I like exercising. What did you expect?”
Shrugging, you settled your hands at his belt and ran your fingers along the metal of the buckle. “I don’t know. Now I’m a little scared to take your pants off, I mean, what have you got hiding there?”
He cringed, grabbing your hips and pulling you against him once more. “Oh, god. Please never say that again.”
Your giggle was cut off by Jinyoung’s lips pressing into yours again. This time the kiss was more heated, wet and punctuated by little nips to your lower lip. When he finally rid you of your sweater, you were so turned on you forgot to be insecure about him seeing your body for the first time.
Jinyoung laid you down on the bed, cradling his hand behind your head as it hit the pillows. His lips were on your collarbone in an instant and you slid your fingers through the soft strands of his hair, tugging in appreciation when he started sucking a hickey into your skin.
Tracing your sides with his fingertips once more, Jinyoung squeezed your hips and pulled back, sitting back on his heels to look down at you. His eyes raked your body from your face down to your waist, to where your legs were spread for him to lay between.
“Should we—“ Jinyoung swallowed, rubbing his thumbs into your hips. “Should we make some ground rules?”
It was fitting that he would be the one to suggest boundaries, but he had a point. Just because you trusted him and were both aware that it would be just sex, no feelings, didn’t mean it couldn’t get messy.
“Good idea,” you breathed, pushing hair out of your face. You’d never done this before, you didn’t even know where to start.
“Honesty,” Jinyoung started, his face looking quite serious despite the fact that he had a massive bulge in his jeans and he was naked from the waist up. “We tell each other what’s working, what’s not... what feels good, what doesn’t.”
Nodding, you agreed, “And, we have to tell each other if we start sleeping with someone else.”
“Or if we start to fall in love,” Jinyoung said, catching you off guard. Love? It hadn’t even crossed your mind.
He seemed to catch himself and cleared his throat, and you tried to ignore the adorable blush that was creeping onto the apples of his cheeks. “No feelings, right?”
You held your hand out. “Deal.”
Jinyoung smirked, then reached his hand out to clasp yours, shaking it just once. “Deal. Want me to eat you out now?”
You coughed in surprise. Was he always this forward with girls? If so, what was Yeri thinking walking away from him like that?
When you realized he wasn’t kidding, not even a little, as his hands played with the waistband of your leggings, you nodded once. “Okay. But I’m not—I wasn’t really expecting anyone to see me naked...”
Though you knew there was no good reason to be insecure, it was just Jinyoung, you squirmed your hips regardless when Jinyoung started to remove your leggings. “You want me to be honest?” He asked, tossing the ball of fabric behind him once you were left in just your bra and underwear.
“That’s the idea, right?”
“Right.” He scooted down the bed and laid between your legs, his shoulders nudging your knees apart to give him more room. “I don’t care. Most guys don’t. Besides, the underwear is cute.”
Blushing, you turned your face towards the pillow. You vaguely remembered mindlessly picking out a pair of snowmen underwear, simple cotton hipsters that were far from seductive. Though he said he didn’t care, you couldn’t help the knot of embarrassment in your stomach.
“Shut up.” You chewed your lip, then lifted your head to look down at him. “Guys really don’t care? About... what it looks like down there?”
Jinyoung held back another chuckle. “No. You care way more than we do, apparently. At the end of the day, if it’s the right guy, we just want to be inside of you. And if it’s really the right guy, we just want to make you feel good. Nothing else matters.”
It relieved some of your anxiety, but you still couldn’t look at his face as he pulled your underwear down your legs and tossed them to the floor. You trusted him, more than most guys you’d ever met, but he was about to get closer to you than even some of the men you’d slept with.
“Relax,” Jinyoung whispered and you conceded, laying your head back against the pillows and closing your eyes. “Tell me if you want to stop, okay?”
You nodded, tapping your hands awkwardly against the covers until you felt his fingers intertwine yours, holding them against the bed next to your hips.
He started slow. Kissing your thighs, building it up, getting closer and closer to your heat before finally, he licked one single strip from your entrance up to your clit. You whimpered involuntarily, not realizing how sensitive you’d be.
How long had it been, anyway? At least six months since the last time you’d had sex, and much longer since you’d had a man’s face between your thighs.
Then he locked his lips around your clit, alternating between flicking his tongue and sucking, until you were squeezing his hands so hard you were sure you left nail marks in his skin. You had to remind yourself Sana was just a couple of rooms over, and though she was a deep sleeper she’d most definitely wake up to you moaning at the top of your lungs.
“Faster,” you told him, still unable to open your eyes but he listened immediately, quickening the pace of his tongue against your clit. You whined breathlessly, hips lifting in an attempt to just feel more.
Jinyoung let go of one of your hands only to slide it down to meet just underneath his chin, taking the wetness that had gathered on two of his fingers before slowly inching them inside of you.
“Fuck,” you breathed out, moving your now free hand to clamp onto the back of Jinyoung’s head, fingers tangling in his hair. “Deep. Deeper, with your fingers,” you told him, words rushing together because you felt like you were going a little bit insane.
So he obeyed, pushing his fingers through your walls until he couldn’t go any further. He let you adjust, then began a slow, delicious pace inside of you. You could feel sweat pooling in your collarbone just from the heat Jinyoung was making you feel.
“Pull my hair,” Jinyoung whispered, and you didn’t have time to question it before you were doing as he said. He moaned into your clit and you arched your back, your mouth gaping open just as you remembered you needed to stay quiet.
He knew what he was doing, you could tell that much. Not only that, he enjoyed it. You could tell just from the quiet groans he’d let out when you clenched your walls around his fingers, like he was getting as much pleasure from this as you were.
“J-Jinyoung,” you stuttered, feeling the pressure start to build in your belly, your toes beginning to curl. He stared up at you, mouth still buried into your pussy. “I’m... I’m close, but I—“ you groaned. “I want you. Please.”
Within a second, Jinyoung was slipping his fingers from your folds, popping them into his mouth to get a taste and using his other hand to undo his belt. He worked fast, pushing his jeans down his thighs and kicking them off the bed with his underwear.
“Nightstand,” you breathed, taking your opportunity to check him out, head to toe. His dick was pretty. And that was truly the first time you’d ever thought that about anyone. You shifted your hips on the bed, desperate to have him fill you up.
It was new to feel this needy, and for Jinyoung of all people. The guy you’d known since you were both in your awkward phase, scrawny limbs and terrible clothing. He’d seen you throw up on your own shoes, and you’d seen him dance to Backstreet Boys at your high school talent show.
And yet, here you were, naked and wet underneath of him as if none of that mattered.
Jinyoung shoved his hand into your nightstand drawer until he found the box of condoms, grabbing one and tossing the nearly full box to the floor in his haste to get inside of you. You watched as he rolled it on, and it finally hit you that this was happening. It was almost too late for either of you to change your minds.
“This is your last chance,” you said, finally looking up from his cock to his eyes. “If you want to stop, if you think it’s a bad idea—“
Jinyoung cut you off with his lips once more, his hand grabbing onto your thigh to hook it around his waist. “I’m not changing my mind. Are you?” He whispered against your lips and you felt him hard against your stomach.
“No,” you answered. “I want it.”
He pulled away and locked eyes with you, a smirk on his lips. “Oh yeah?” His tongue ran over his lower lip and he reached down, guiding his cock up your folds until the head nudged your clit. “I can tell.”
Even though he was clearly just as desperate, you blushed and pinched his arm. “Are you going to fuck me or what?”
Jinyoung’s eyes lit up and he chuckled, lowering his hips until you felt him at your entrance. “I had no idea you had such a dirty mouth on you.” He paused for a moment, making sure you were ready, then pushed inside of your heat.
While you’d just had his fingers inside of you, you would’ve never been able to tell with the way you squeezed around him. It was uncomfortable at first, but the feeling ebbed away quickly the more of him you took inside.
“Oh,” you breathed, and Jinyoung echoed your reaction with a groan.
“Tight,” he whispered, dropping his head down to your shoulder.
As soon as he’d filled you to the hilt, you couldn’t help the whimper that slipped from your lips. It was the best kind of stretch, putting every one of your nerves on edge. He stayed like that for a long moment, letting your walls adjust to his length.
When you couldn’t take it anymore, you shifted, tightening your leg around his waist. “Move. Please.”
Jinyoung’s movements were controlled and slow, but it was as if he knew all of the sensitive places in your body already. You gasped, your hands sliding up his back until they gripped tightly to his shoulder blades.
The way he fit inside of you felt incredible, and you weren’t sure it had ever felt quite like this, even with ex-boyfriends. Everywhere your body met with his felt like it was on fire, and as Jinyoung quickened his pace, you found it harder and harder to stay quiet.
His name fell from your lips over and over, and you could tell Jinyoung was holding back—when he lifted his head from your shoulder, his brows were knitted together in concentration. You slid your nails down his back, relishing in the way he shivered in response.
“God, you’re driving me insane,” he said, his voice low and strained. “Spread your legs more. Yeah, just like that.”
“Mm, faster,” you told him, clenching around him once he was all the way inside. “You don’t have to be gentle with me.”
“Fuck—“ Jinyoung groaned, hands squeezing the sheets where he held himself above you.
If someone had told you twelve hours ago that Jinyoung would have you covering your own mouth to muffle your moans while he drilled into you, you probably would have thought they were crazy. But here you were.
Jinyoung reached down, slipping his hand under your back to unhook your bra, pulling it off in one smooth movement. He cursed under his breath once you were exposed to him completely, breasts bouncing each time he filled you up.
“God,” he whispered, hand trailing down your chest until the tip of his index finger grazed over your nipple, a featherlight touch. You shivered, arching your back towards his hand. “Tell me what you like.”
Normally, it took you months to let your boyfriends know what you liked in bed and how you liked to be touched, but honesty was your number one rule in this agreement. There was no point in holding back.
“I like it deep, just like this,” you told him. Jinyoung seemed to just know already, or maybe that was how he liked it too. He was always the intense type, it made sense if it had transferred over to the bedroom. “I like it when you tell me how it feels, what you want to do.”
Your words were finished off by a moan that you were sure Sana could have heard if she weren’t asleep, and just the thrill of being caught was enough to send a wave of heat through your body.
When Jinyoung locked eyes with you, there was a hint of something new, like you’d unlocked a part of him that you’d never seen before. He smirked.
“Next time,” Jinyoung started, thrusting deep inside of you, “you won’t have to keep quiet. I’ll take you to my place, and when I’m inside of you, you can be as loud as you want.” His hand slid down your torso, over the sensitive skin of your stomach until it rested on your hip.
Next time. Just the idea of being with him again, though you probably wouldn’t admit it, excited you. It filled your mind with a flash of scenarios and possibilities, all the different ways he could make you feel good.
“Jinyoung, I—“ you moaned, biting hard onto your lip to silence yourself. Jinyoung brought his other hand to your mouth, thumbing your lip until you were forced to stop biting it.
“Would you like that?” he asked, the pace of his thrusts quickening. “Maybe I can bend you over the back of the couch, windows open for everyone to hear you crying out. Is that what you want?”
Your eyes squeezed shut, gasping as the mental image went straight between your legs where he filled you up so perfectly.
“Answer me.” His voice was deep but stern at your ear, and you knew his question was not rhetorical.
“Yes,” you replied, digging your nails into his back. “God, yes. Make me scream your name, Jinyoung.” And he almost did, as he attached his lips to your neck and bit down, teeth scraping against your tender skin just as he slammed inside of you.
You were close again, and you knew it wouldn’t take much more to send you tumbling over the edge. His thrusts were so deep and powerful that you knew you’d be aching tomorrow, but you couldn’t find it in yourself to care.
“Fuck, you’re so tight. Can’t get enough,” he said, voice husky and low against your neck where you could tell he was working on marking you. He could’ve left the biggest, reddest hickey for all to see and you couldn’t have cared less right now. It didn’t even cross your mind that this was meant to be just between the two of you.
You whimpered when his hand drifted from your hip to the place where your bodies met. He placed his thumb right against your clit and pressed quick circles into your most sensitive spot, and you had to restrain yourself from moaning out.
Jinyoung must have sensed this, because he pulled away from your neck and stared down at you, slipping his opposite thumb into the wetness of your mouth. “Suck.”
If you weren’t close before, you were now. You wrapped your lips around his thumb and did as you were told, hollowing out your cheeks and sucking on Jinyoung’s digit as it rested on your tongue.
As his gaze locked on yours, you found yourself unable to look away. He commanded every bit of your attention, his eyes filled with desire and pleasure that you were responsible for. Your heart pounded in your chest, overwhelmed with need.
Although Jinyoung didn’t say a word, you could read it in his eyes—cum for me. He drew tight circles against your clit, his fast pace relentless inside of you. His stamina was something else, you thought to yourself. He didn’t even look mildly tired out.
You grabbed at Jinyoung’s wrist with your hands, needing something to grip onto but you also desperately needed to keep your mouth occupied so that you didn’t wake your roommate and the neighbors with your cries.
Then something snapped. The tension got to be too much and your orgasm crashed over you like a tsunami, causing your back to arch and your thighs to shake, caging Jinyoung’s waist in and slowing his movements.
He still fucked you through your high and kept his fingers moving until he was sure you had come down. Once he was, he brought a hand up to push your hair away from your face, pressing his lips into your forehead.
“Good girl,” he whispered and you sighed, your limbs finally relaxing in exhaustion. You would’ve never guessed that Jinyoung would be the one to give you what was possibly the best orgasm you’d had in years. Polite, calm, and serious Jinyoung. The same Jinyoung that could barely look you in the eye when you wore a bathing suit in front of him.
His climax wasn’t far away, you knew that much. And you were thankful too, because you were already starting to feel sore and overstimulated, and you weren’t sure how much more you could take.
You wrapped your arms around him, your fingertips gripping deep into his skin, undoubtedly leaving scratch marks down his back. It was only fair, you figured. You slipped one hand into his hair and tugged, harder than before.
“Shit,” Jinyoung moaned, his thrusts becoming less controlled and more shallow. You pulled his hair again, your nails scraping against his scalp, and that was it for him.
He pushed inside one last time, his cock so deep inside of you that you couldn’t help clenching your walls around him as he came. He was mostly silent save for one throaty groan into your neck, a sound you were sure you wouldn’t soon forget.
You felt him relax a long moment later and he slowly pulled back away from you, stroking the side of your face with his fingertips. “That was...”
All you could do was nod, a blush creeping onto your cheeks. “Yeah...” Your heart was still racing from your orgasm, but the haze of your desire was starting to fall away, reminding you of reality.
You’d just had sex with Jinyoung. One of your best friends. What would happen now? Would it be awkward from now on, now that you’d seen each other naked? You’d literally had him inside of you. Something told you it’d be difficult to come back from that.
Jinyoung finally pulled out of you a moment later to remove the condom and put it in the trash, and you were eternally grateful that you had the master bedroom with the attached bathroom. For one, you could watch his backside as he went to get a washcloth, and you also didn’t have to leave your bedroom until both of you were fully cleaned up.
You shifted on the bed while you waited for Jinyoung to return, trying to ease your worries. The two of you had been friends so long, you figured it would take more than one hook-up to ruin it all.
Once Jinyoung came back with a wet cloth and climbed onto the bed, you told yourself you’d worry about it tomorrow.
You both got cleaned up and while Jinyoung got dressed, you grabbed your robe and wrapped it around yourself so that you could walk him to the door. Both of your footsteps were as silent as possible, careful not to wake your roommate.
“Jinyoung,” you said, as he slipped his shoes back on.
“Yeah?”
“Thanks,” you whispered, chewing nervously at your lip. You didn’t quite know what you were thanking him for, but you felt the need to say it anyway. Some part of you felt so grateful to him that you couldn’t let him leave without making him aware.
Jinyoung’s lips quirked just a bit. “You too,” he tucked your disheveled hair behind your ear. “I’ll talk to you later, alright?”
You nodded. “Drive safe.”
The moment Jinyoung was out of the apartment, your body leaned limply against the door as you stared up at the ceiling. No, this was not how movie night was supposed to have gone.

Story Process Tag~
The challenge: show a certain part of your story process based on you being tagged by other creators!!!
I am very boring, but I will share my very simple process if you’d like to see. I was tagged by @queenofvraquin and @poetic-falls. Thank you both! Below the cut ~
1. Your writing process - show us a part of your script or explain how you write your scenes. Do you write in screenplay format or novel format? Etc, etc.
Hahahaha. No. I literally write it as I queue it. For DPR that’s in the script format. I plan ahead in my brain and hope when it comes time for that to happen that I don’t forget. NSB is mostly gameplay with loose plot so no real planning there anyway. I do plan out things scene by scene. I know where I want the story to go in the long run, but dialogue and scenes that add up to the big ones are usually fun surprises along the way.
2. Scene building - show us you in the middle of scene building through pictures, gifs, or a video. Explain what is the best thing about scene building and what is the worst!
I cannot build at all. I can barely decorate. I pull houses from the game or the gallery and redecorate as much as I can. I personally like using things that sims can earn/make from the game to decorate like paintings, knitting projects, and collectibles. Recently I learned how to add in photos as in game photos so I have been enjoying decking out the NSB house in those.
Tumblr media
3. CC/Pose Making - do you make your own cc/poses for your scene? If so, what is your process like to create? Do you just go off the top of your head? Do you use reference photos?
I do make my own poses but I try my absolute best to find something else first. I only resort to making my own if I have a very specific idea in mind or if I cannot find what I need. I usually try to make those into larger packs because I figure if I need them, then someone else will too.
Tumblr media
Pose making does take a lot out on me tho so if I can’t find someone else who has made them I usually drag my feet on the next scene I need them for. Hence why there hasn’t been any DPR content lately. As it goes.
4. Getting in the zone - What do you do to get in the zone to work on a scene? Examples include: show us your playlist you use when working on a scene, what’s your go-to scene snack/drink, etc.
I don’t need anything to get into the zone. Playing sims is my fun zone. Loading up the game and posing them and queuing is what I like about all of it. I usually do it while I am in the living room with my roommates and we’re all watching a movie or something together. If I am not in the mood to play sims, then I just don’t.
5. Screenshot folder - give us a look into your screenshot folder to show us just how much goes into ONE scene for your story. (Scrapped pictures encouraged!!!)
I take...so many screenshots. So many... from every angle. Since I don’t plan ahead with dialogue and specific scenes, I just grab a whole bunch of photos and hope there’s something usable in there. If there’s a shot I find that I need or would prefer, I go back in game and grab it real quick.
A look at my NSB screenshot folder (I also never delete anything I am a mess don’t be like me)
Tumblr media
6. Captions - are you a caption on the picture kind of storyteller or captions in text box type of storyteller? Why? Do you do both?
I don’t do captions. I find them limited and hard to read. I did do them for one story and they were such a pain to edit and if you spell something wrong it’s much harder to go in and edit that lol, so I prefer text below myself. Easier to edit and make up on the spot. But yes, for my Frost Flower story even all that text on the photos was done in the moment of editing.
For the NSB, I do add in speech bubbles and icons sometimes when I feel things are complicated and need that. But even that has been relaxed a lot lately.
7. Editing!!!!! - explain and show us your process editing a scene through a video, gif, or picture. A Before and after will suffice if you aren’t in the middle of editing a scene as you answer this.
I do not edit at all. It’s all reshade. My only editing would be, as mentioned above, the captions on NSB pictures.
Lately I have been editing RAIA vision pictures. But those are far and few inbetween so I do not consider myself an editor at all.  Here is a gif to tell the difference. Click for HQ:
Tumblr media
8. Throwback - show us an ANCIENT story scene you done in the past and explain how you would do the scene differently today!
Oh gosh...I would redo almost everything I post as soon as I post it. The beginning of Destined needs better set building. My NSB DID have a reboot because I was unsatisfied with the direction it went in. You can compare how the RoboCat came to be here:
OLD: [X] New: [X]
Honestly there isn’t anything I wouldn’t redo. My DPR Gen 1 is all gameplay and my old computer graphics with no CC and reshade and it doesn’t reflect my current gameplay style at all. That’s my biggest gripe with it, but it does show how far I’ve grown so it stays and we play on.
Thanks for making it this far if you did! It’s so simple and quite plain and I am still learning and growing as we go. For now it’s all in good fun~
I tag anyone who would also like to show off their process!

Prediction for Agony of a Witch (maybe?):
Okay so I had like a mini prediction thingy for Agony of a Witch that wasn’t like serious or anything at first like I was just like thinking about stuff because people were talking about Amity not being in the episode but:
What if Amity doesn’t go on the field trip with everyone else because of the broken leg, but stays at the school and when everyone gets back and Luz (and Willow and Gus maybe?) aren’t there she had to be the one to go to Eda and be like “Hey, they’re missing??” I figure it’s either that or Eda’s *Luz is in trouble* senses will just go off on their own, but I would just like to see more interaction between them. (For added angst, when she gets to the owl house, Eda’s curse is in like full effect)
Another possibility has just come to my mind as a result of the end of WiLW. The whole Amity, Willow, and Gus just coming to the owl house to hang out thing seems like it’s going to be more common in the future, and I think that was done for two big reasons (among many other smaller ones): 1. So that there can be more interaction between Luz’s Hexside friends and her Owl House friends so that it doesn’t feel like one group or the other is just getting pushed to the side all the time. 2. To give Amity another safe space (like her hideout in the library, but the owl house has friends and isn’t closed at certain times). So maybe, in next week’s episode, she doesn’t go to school at all because she knows she can’t go on the field trip, and that no one would be at Hexside anyways. She decides to just stay home, but doesn’t want to deal with her parents (because they’re mad at her for going against her “friends” in grudgby or for some other random reason) so she decides to go to the owl house because, even if Luz isn’t there, it beats staying at Blight Manor with them.
She gets to the owl house, and Eda is the only person there (I’m pretty sure King is going to go with Luz? I feel like I saw promo images that had Lillith holding King and Luz going to attack her, and although that could be from Young Blood, Old Souls, I think the two episodes are going to flow into each other, but correct me if I’m wrong). After a few minutes of either awkward silence or mindless banter Amity mentions her sadness about not being able to go on the field trip, maybe saying something about how it would’ve upped her chances of getting into the emperor’s coven. Eda, being like she is, expresses her disdain for the EC and for the coven system in general, which causes the two of them to get into a fight. Eda starts to say something about how annoying it is that Lillith has been chasing her down and trying to get her to join, which Amity reacts to by questioning why Eda would ever give up that opportunity (or something to that effect). This leads into Eda talking about what she can remember of her past. We know that at one point she did want to be in the EC, and I think that we’re going to find out more about what changed/what they did to make her feel the way she does now (I think it’s deeper than just “I want to do all of the types of magic but not have to enforce other people on their use of magic”, whether it’s just a more detailed explanation of that or some specific event happened to change her mind.), and we might find out a little bit of how that ties in to the curse. From that point, Eda and Amity finish talking, and they realize that Luz probably should have been back at this point, which starts the plot of the finale.
(Alternatively, when Amity gets to TOH Eda is in her cursed form and Amity has to help her (maybe hooty or Owlbert helps her find the elixir and she manages to get it to work) and then as a result bc Amity is confused and stuff that’s how Eda starts explaining stuff.)
This makes a lot of sense for Eda. The only two possible ways I can think of Eda’s backstory being revealed are her telling someone else about what she remembers of it, or it being totally in flashbacks (but flashbacks might not fit well with the episode and make it flow strangely, depending on how they’re done). One more possibility is that we find out stuff from Lillith, but who knows. I couldn’t see her telling stuff about her past to anyone, let alone just one of Luz’s friends, but if it was in the heat of the moment during an arguement, I could definitely see it happening. I don’t think we’re going to get every little detail (if my memory serves me correctly, Eda has had trouble with her memory, so it’d be hard for her to tell her whole backstory, but I think she does remember parts.)
It also makes a lot of sense in terms of Amity’s character arc. Although her feelings for Luz are adorable, and Luz is definitely helping her to change for the better, her influence can only go so far. Amity has probably been being conditioned by her parents to want to join the EC for as long as she’s been able to understand the words that they were saying to her, and a crush is not going to make that all go away immediately, as much as some of us may want it to. But hearing Eda’s experiences and opinions that show the cracks in the perfect image that the EC is trying to portray might guide her more in that direction. We don’t know if Amity is going to be going against the emperor any time soon, but it’s a possibility if something like this happened. Especially if immediately after that talk that she may (or may not ) have with Eda, she has to go help Luz escape being kidnapped or just generally help her fight against the EC, which would be the final push. Whether or not this specific prediction ends up being true in any way, I think that Eda is definitely going to play a role in Amity’s eventual realization that the EC isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Although it may be easy to recognize the similarities between Amity and Lillith or Eda and Luz, Amity and Eda also have many similarities, and I think there’s a reason for that.
Maybe I just really want Amity to be in the episode and am just coming up with random ways for that to happen, but doesn’t it make sense for her to be? At this point, the main cast has been established to be Luz, Eda, King, Willow, Gus, and Amity (+Hooty and Owlbert if I’m being nice), and we know that all of the others are probably going to be in the next episode (or Young Blood, Old Souls, but like I said earlier I think they’re going to go together, so I’m kind of imagining them as one mega-episode), so why would Amity be the only one left out during the finale? It just doesn’t make sense with how present she’s been in season 1b leading up to this, how WiLW was kind of her final push over to the good side, and especially how connected she is to the EC and Lillith. It would just be weird to keep her out (unless they’re saving that for next season and are just trying to avoid it for now).
I could be totally wrong as well! We don’t have that many promo images and a lot of people think that Eda’s curse is going to be in full effect in Agony of a Witch (the title of the episode kind of alludes to that), so Amity could totally just not be in the episode, or she could be with Luz and co.! (I do find the fact that they broke her leg right before the finale suspicious though.)
I just want to put a little disclaimer here: This is my first time writing a big prediction like this since my svtfoe days (the last time I did something was probably like a year and a half ago, and anything I ever did then was just as a caption on Instagram), and I didn’t really expect this to be as long as it is, so if the formatting of this post sucks, that’s why. Also, I know most people won’t do this, but if you’re tempted to reply to this by saying something like “I think you’re looking too far into it,” or “that doesn’t really make sense,” or anything else like that, please don’t. Trust me, I know! Over analyzing stuff and coming up with predictions that may not be close to canon, but could still be interesting, is fun for me, and I think reading them is fun for a lot of people, and I am in no way trying to make it seem like this is what is going to happen. Also, I put anything that was in parentheses in different colors to break it up because it can be confusing and I use them way too much lol.

I really wouldn't mind you aiding me with some tutorials love
giffing tutorial/resources
hi anon! sorry it took me so long to answer. i figured this might be helpful for others out there who have asked me similar questions, so i’ve compiled a pretty comprehensive list of tutorials/resources. idk about others but when i was new to giffing, it took me a lot of painful effort to go around and look for resources, so i’m putting it all here to make it a little easier!
i download videos using 4k video downloader. it will download very good quality 1080p videos in .mp4 format. if you’re downloading a 4k video, make sure to change the setting option to .mkv so that you get 4k and not 1080p—for obvious reasons since you want the highest quality.
i rely on kpopexciting to get .ts files — which are basically raw, very high quality video files for live performances. they are much less grainy than .mp4 versions of live performances—which are the ones you’ll see uploaded to youtube. i’ve found that 4k videos (in .mkv) are just as good quality as .ts, but obviously you will rarely see live performances in 4k, so get .ts when you can!! you can also try to find .ts files on twitter, but you may have to do a lot of digging. i wish i could recommend you twitter accounts, but the ones i used to go to have been very inactive/taken down all their drives :( but this website is really nice and updated frequently so i would recommend it!
vapoursynth links + download. the reason you would use vapoursynth is to resize your gif, while maintaining the optimal quality of the gif. if you gif without vapoursynth (.ie only using photoshop), it will still be fine, but the image quality may be grainier. also, you will definitely need vapoursynth to gif .ts files —more will be explained in the tutorial i’ve linked below. i would recommend that you have a high processing/lots of ram/newer desktop or laptop to use vapoursynth so that 1, your computer isn’t fried and 2, your vapoursynth process will go a lot faster. i am using a 2017 macbook pro for all my work, and it runs pretty well, but my laptop still gets pretty hot so just make sure you’re not running a million things in the background while using adobe products and vapoursynth lol. i used a pretty old and beat up 2011 model macbook air back then, and i will say that yes vapoursynth worked and ran on it, but it took much longer, and basically fried the laptop’s battery (aka i had to get the battery changed twice and the laptop would die randomly) but issok it was a school borrowed laptop so i didn’t feel too bad lol. im just saying this as a precaution, to preserve the health of your electronic devices!! but don’t be afraid to use vapoursynth! you should still try it at least once.
thank you to @realstraykids for this super detailed, really nice tutorial! it includes how and where to download videos, how to gif using vapoursynth, using photoshop, comparisons, coloring, and pretty much all you need to know. 10/10 would recommend
thank you to @dreamcolouring for this lifesaver!!! the best and easiest way to blur out unwanted captions/objects in your gifs. i recommend doing this step after converting your frames to video timeline and before you do sharpening and coloring. another tip i’ll add is to feather the selection you’ve made right before you click on “add vector mask” —this will make sense once you’ve read through the tutorial. feathering it will make the blurred spot less noticeable and more subtle.
i use this generator to create gradient colored captions! copy and paste your text, then select the colors you want. generate the code, and copy it. change the settings of the text editor on your post to HTML. paste the code, preview, and voila! add elements <blockquote>,<b>,<i>, etc as needed. see more on colored captions in this tutorial by @kylos --i believe op mentioned a different and better color generator but for some reason it won’t work for me :( hopefully it works for u! basically same idea as the previous generator i mentioned.
my own mini tutorial/workflow process of making gifs. this includes working with a .ts file, vapoursynth, photoshop, coloring, watermarking, etc. and a few of my own tips below:
if you are working with an .mp4, you do not have to make any changes to the preprocessor/denoise filters/sharpening in the resizing part of vapoursynth—it doesn’t make that big of a difference if you do. but if you are working with a .ts file, definitely do make those changes,, that’s the whole reason you have vapoursynth. with an .mp4, i like to use vapoursynth to just resize, but i don’t add any additional settings. i use smart sharpen in photoshop to sharpen it, which is pretty good on it’s own (at least in photoshop 2020!).
my rule of thumb is to do add .02 seconds when i am setting frame delay. so if when you first import the frames, they are at 0.04 seconds, i usually change them to 0.06. of course, this is my personal taste—you can make all your gifs faster or slower depending on how you want em to look.
if you are on a mac, you can screen record by pressing Command+Shift+5 (it’s a shortcut to quicktime screen recording). I only screen record for things like the beyond live concert or other live streamed events. the image quality of the screen recording, in my experience, is actually pretty good. when you gif the screen recording however, you may notice that it adds extra frames that you don’t need. by that i mean duplicate frames. you could keep the duplicate frames but that just means the size of your gif is going to be much bigger (keep in mind the limit is 8mb). in order to remove those duplicates, my only solution has been to remove them manually (by holding Command while selecting), or when you are importing the video to frames, select the option to “limit to every 2 frames”—but this method will be less precise and still not as good as manually removing frames. if you remove the duplicate frames, this means you will need to set the frame delay even slower, to make up for lost frames. in my experience, fps(frames per second) and frame delay work in conjunction. so for example, if i delete every other frame because they are duplicates,  but the starting frame delay is 0.02, i am now going to change it to something like 0.05 (so i added 0.03 seconds rather than my usual 0.02). if the duration length and the image dimensions of the gif are short/small, feel free to keep the duplicate frames in—i only delete duplicate frames in order to keep my gif under the 8mb limit. then, if you keep the duplicate frames in, continue with your standard frame delay preferences.  now that i’m writing this im realizing this might not make a lot of sense lol.. but don’t worry about it for now and if you run into trouble w screen recorded gifs then you can come back to this for reference. again, this is only my experience recording on a mac—it may be a lot different if you use a screen recording program or are on a pc.
i don’t really use .psd templates because i like to give every gif/gifset it’s own unique coloring—so i remake the coloring every time, but if you get into a rhythm it’s pretty easy. there are a lot of nice coloring tutorials out there, too! my personal coloring adjustments in order: levels, exposure, color balance, selective color (if needed), vibrance, photo filter (if needed), color lookup (i use 2strip most often and i put it on ‘color’ blending mode). don’t forget to adjust the opacities and fills of the ‘color lookup’ adjustment layer in case it’s too strong. go back to correct each adjustment layer as needed. then, when you’re done and satisfied, group all those layers, copy the group (you can do an easy command+c), and paste it onto the next gif you’re working on for easy workflow.
if for some reason you can’t see the frames when you import your layers/video, it’s likely because your ‘timeline’ window isn’t showing up. just go to the window menu on photoshop, go to the bottom and you’ll see ‘timeline.’ make sure it has a check next to it.
i recommend watermarking your gifs because a lot of people like to repost tings these days 😠 - so make sure u got your brand on it! i keep my watermark saved to my ‘libraries’ in photoshop so it’s ready when i need it. i use the blending mode ‘overlay’ and adjust the opacity, but if you don’t want to do that you can also add a stroke/shadow to your watermark/do all sorts.
tag #nctinc for your nct creations and #jenonet for your jeno creations!!
here’s my own mini tutorial (well not much of a tutorial ig more like a work process vid?): took about ten minutes including the time to search and download the video (but i didn’t record that part i trust yall know how to do that), vapoursynth, and exporting. i hope this helps somewhat! feel free to ask more questions whenever :)

keep in mind that giffing takes a lot of patience, energy, and experience—so don’t worry if it takes you a bit to figure things out or if your gifs don’t turn out the way you want them to the first time around. we all start at the same place and all run into problems. i know giffing can sound intimidating and seem like a lot of work, but i promise, once you get into a routine, giffing is going to happen in minutes—and you’ll get beautiful gifs. have fun! 😊

1985 was a flat year in the animation world.  Let’s ask the hit makers who hit the home runs on how to put an end to this situation.
HAYAO MIYAZAKI (writer and director of “Laputa: Castle in the Sky”)
(Blurb)
What are the animated works that the young ones, the ten year olds to fifteen year olds want to watch? Doors will surely open if you keep them in mind.
It’s unthinkable that new hope can come out of TV when one episode from a TV series needs 3500 cells to be drawn. On the other hand, in movie theaters as well, there are no films that will mobilize moviegoers other than anime fans. I think that filmmakers have forgotten the basics of selling movies.  Collaboration films intended for overseas markets are all the rage,  and even though I want the fans who are in Japan to see these films, they can’t and all I’m left with is frustration.  Only deterioration can come out of this situation.  Actually, there isn’t even one anime today that is aimed at older kids in elementary school to kids in middle-school - the very kids who should be watching anime.  (The anime available now) is aimed at younger kids at elementary school and then jumps straight into anime for college kid anime maniacs. It’s a tough time for fifteen year olds who are put aside by society.  Twelve year olds to fifteen year olds are the kids who need the most comfort and yet the situation now is that they get their comfort from handheld video games.  Those who produce animation are losing sight of their targeted audience.  The remaining anime fans are making anime that they want to watch, and this is a symptom (of the present situation) that is beyond redemption. This is why video animation is still backward in terms of its production, and only its format is new.
If one has an earnest approach, children will definitely react.  This is a real example - in a run-down middle school, in his morning greeting, a new principal said, “I don’t determine a person’s value by his or her grades or appearance”.  Miraculously, all misbehavior was gone from that day’s afternoon onwards.  What children want has always had just one theme - an adventure that saves the mind and heart.

The hero “Pazu” and heroine “Sheeta” from “Laputa: Castle in the Sky”.  Mr. Miyasaki comments that “For a young lad, living at all times in itself is an adventure.  The reason why Japanese adventure novels are boring is that the hero (in these novels) makes a living out of going on an adventure.”
SUGII GISABURO (executive director of “Touch”)
(Blurb)
What people want nowadays can’t be found in data.  What is the secret of the hits “Night on the Galactic Railroad” and “Touch”?
Honestly speaking, if anything, I genuinely make animation to match my desires, not thinking that today’s animation is trending towards this way, or future animation should be this way.  In other words, I think a great deal about my daily life, figuring out what is lacking and coming up with desires felt by everyone else.  I just happen to be a person who creates, so I vent out those accumulated desires and discontent and let them combust in my work.
My works are quite heavy in terms of cycle and tempo, whether it be “Night on the Galactic Railroad” or “Touch”.  I sometimes think if this kind of heaviness is ok or not.  But that is because I have a desire for this heaviness, and also because I have this easy pleasure within me.  Instead of work that is borne out of being hung up just on data, I think work that is borne out of my inner natural desires is more acceptable to people.  In the meantime, “Touch” will be shown as an hour and a half movie in the spring so please look forward it.
ISAO TAKAHATA (producer of “Laputa”)
(Blurb)
Movies that make the mind and body come alive are what’s important.  As for me, I am trying my hand at my first live action film.  I am shooting a documentary.
I think nowadays, the thing that a lot of people working in anime has forgotten is the excitement they felt watching adventure movies when they were kids, the kind of excitement that even your body moved spontaneously.  In that sense, I think that works such as Hayao Miyazaki’s films should be brought out to the rest of the world and after (producing his) “Nausicaa”, I am still producing.  When kids’ minds are liberated, there’s no reason to think that they won’t spontaneously move.  In this day and age dominated by computer games, a lot of kids’ play involve just using the brain and nerves so I’d like them to experience things that energizes the blood and makes the body dance. The difficulty is, I think it’s a difficult time now to have a situation in place wherein you let them experience adventure.  If you can’t make people believe in the world portrayed onscreen, you can’t pull viewers into the adventure onscreen.
It’s not that I’m not doing my real job as a producer.  I am now producing a live action documentary movie set in Yanagawa in Kyushu.  It is about how our Japanese ancestors developed towns which utilized waterways.  There is also a part in the movie that has graphic illustrations using anime.  It’s less than 2 hours and is slated to be shown after the summer.
MAMORU OSHII (scriptwriter and director of “Angel’s Egg”)
(Blurb)
This is a warning!! Please reduce the number of collaboration animes before Japanese animation is annihilated.
If I’m going to be severe about it, I’d say that I want all collaboration animes gone.
Those who work in big studios and places with systems in place may not feel a sense of crisis yet.  But in the case of freelance animators like us who work together and put together a workplace and disperse once our anime is done, a part of our actual work is outsourced.   Recently however, the small video studios and finishing studios that we outsource to are loaded with collaboration work.  Japanese animes can’t compete with collaboration animes in terms of profit so when that happens, we just have to rely on the goodwill of the studio bosses, or make them feel the same way we do with regards to the contents of our work, or by chance see an opening and aim for that, or appease them or plead with them.  We can’t work in just that kind of a situation.  That’s why it’s almost impossible to make highly compact and solid animes in Japan now.  Even without going that far, it’s almost impossible to make even decent animes in the country today.  In fact, anime TV series are almost all in shambles, and I can’t even be optimistic about the video quality of the anime we have now.  In this kind of situation, I can’t help but seriously think if next year, our ideas can be made into anime.

A girl from Mamoru Oshii’s original video anime “Angel’s Egg” (drawn by Seikou Nakura).  Mr. Oshii revealed that he is having a hard time because there aren’t enough animators to make even just one anime video.
YOSHIKAZU YASUHIKO (director and screen director of “Arion”)
(Blurb)
I haven’t decided yet on what I will make after “Arion”.  I will not take part in the new Gundam series.
I am very busy now with screen work for the anime “Arion” which will be shown in theaters on March 8th.  But as far as I’m concerned, I’m conscious  of the fact that this is my anime for 1985.  Therefore, I haven’t decided yet on what my anime will be for 1986.  I feel like I want to take a break for a year.
“Arion” is quite restrained for an anime to be shown in movie theaters.  I’m happy that this movie is being touted as “the” main animation movie this spring but conversely, it’s a shame that there aren’t a lot of big anime movies for theaters.  It’s already been decided that “Arion” is going to be shown in top-class movie theaters throughout Japan.  It just shows how much anime has received recognition.  I’d like to wait for animes that will pick up on this trend.
With regards to anime TV series, I was in charge of character design for “Z Gundam” this past year but I’ve decided not to be involved at all in the sequel’s new series.  I think it’s better to relegate “Gundam” to the younger animators, starting with Hiroyuki Kitazume, who have grown so much in their craft.  Now I sincerely think, if only someone as good as Kitazume were around eight years ago to help with “Gundam”, I would’ve been saved…
(Caption for illustration at the bottom of the page)
The heroine “Lesfina” from “Arion”, which was produced, character designed and screen directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko.  This is the drawing touched-up by Mr. Yasuhiko.  As we have discussed in a series of character designers in last month’s issue, he breathes life into his anime characters, showing genius capabilities.

If there were animes like this I’d watch it!
MASAMI YUUKI (manga artist)
As a rule, the three things I’d like to see are: “something that isn’t originally from manga”; “robot animation that isn’t dark”; and “in one year, a collaborative anime by Osamu Dezaki and Akio Sugino for release in Japan”.  I can watch TV anime while casually lying around but I’d like anime that I wouldn’t be able to take my eyes off of the screen, something that is both easy to watch and amusing.  And as written in other magazines before, I’d like to see Mr. Hayao Miyazaki’s version of “Atragon”! (Translator’s note: “Undersea Warship” in Japan)
YUUKI KUDOU (actress and singer)
I’d definitely watch anime that’s fun to watch, anime that will make me happy.  At any rate, I’d like a hero on the side of justice who will beat the hell out of the bad guys and put them in a bind.
RYOKO YAMAGISHI (manga artist)
If there were an anime like Disney’s “Fantasia”, I’d watch it!

Major producers from each of the anime/production companies talk about their hits for 1986 and foresee what their companies will be producing
KENJI YOKOYAMA (Toei Animation Co.)
(Blurb)
The new hit TV show Gegege no Kitaro from the fall of 1985 which received top ratings reflects modern times.
This is what I’ve been thinking with the third conversion of Gegege no Kitaro into animation.  One is the change in children’s thinking with regards to ghosts/monsters.  Of course “Ghostbusters” and “E.T.” have influenced this change, and now kids consider ghosts almost as pets.  So in this way I think that if you match the present mood and go in the direction of lighter anime, you’ll be able to create different things from before.  Children’s lives are too managed now, so they’d want an outlet to vent too. And in a society that has too many things and where, if you have the money, you can buy anything, things like the Toyoda Company fraud scandal and shady investment journals can also be construed as monstrosities. This anime has this overall theme: In the ideal world of Kitaro, monsters, people, animals, grass and trees should all co-exist so I thought I’d have various new approaches within the anime.
As a new endeavor, our company is going into video anime.  It’s called “Amon Saga” and we’re not just going to sell it in video format, (I’m also hoping) we can show it in any movie theater even for just one week otherwise it’ll just be too sad.   Especially with regards to original works with names that aren’t well known, I think it’s dangerous to rely on just one production studio. After “Konpora Kid” ends, beginning February, we’re planning on animating “Kinka”, a serialized manga in the weekly magazine Shonen Jump.
(Caption for illustration on the left side of the page)
A figure from the very popular “Kitaro”.  They can’t keep up with the demand for a ghost eraser that they’ve produced and now it is a hit product.  It’s also been decided that there will be new movie releases for this anime in the New Year and in the spring.
EIJI YAMAURA (Nihon Sunrise Co.)
(Blurb)
Find common ground with your viewers and defeat this lethargic mood!
Sunrise has now expanded into six studios and at any given point in time, we plan to work simultaneously on two to three anime TV series, video anime, anime for movie theaters and collaboration anime.  Overall, anime today is manga magazine-driven, so our question is how far can we go in staying on an original anime track. Robot animes have vastly decreased in number, so conversely, I think this is a chance for us to come out with epoch-making anime.  I’d like to make anime that will allow us to seriously converse with our child viewers.
TOSHIMITSU SUZUKI (Artmic Co.)
(Blurb)
Making anime that will be understood by the whole world!  The robot anime boom is shifting from transformation-type robots to robots that merge into one.
Speaking of Japanese products in the international market today, mechanical products come to mind.  This is also true in the animation world since Japanese robot animes are extremely in vogue.  Especially in the American market, they already have transformation-type robot animes, so animes that have robots that merge into one are new to them.  We’ve already exported “Beast King GoLion”, following that, (we’re going to export) “Dancouga Super Beast Machine God”.
We at Artmic plan to make animation that can be exported to foreign markets and we also are also keeping in mind to configure these anime with universal values.  The video anime “Gall Force” is the first step in that direction.
NOBUO INADA (Tokyo Movie Shinsha Co.)
(Blurb)
Our track remains the same - making collaboration animes for foreign countries but we also have new anime.
I can’t necessarily say that the present state of anime is good.  But the passion for anime during the anime boom of “Gundam” and the like was an anomaly so I feel that the state of anime now is the real one.
As you may know, not only do we make anime for Japan but we also produce anime for foreign countries.  It’s a difficult situation for us now to concentrate on anime just for Japan because of production costs.  It can be said that Japanese anime should be improved from the very basic level.
In 1986, we plan to have “Little Nemo” and in the fall, an anime for movie theater release by the duo Desaki and Sugino.  At any rate, we’re doing our best.
JUNZOU NAKAJIMA (Nihon Animation Co.)
(Blurb)
We’re aiming for improving the quality of our masterpieces and we’re also trying our hand at new anime!
As you may know, our company has mainly been making masterpiece animes for more than fifteen years but I think we’ve made a habit of making similar anime.  But we’ve been able to improve on our animes’ degree of perfection precisely because of the buildup of our experience in animation.  We’re also working hard on our technology, and on the authenticity of our masterpieces.  At any rate, we’re trying to make anime that is still interesting to watch even after five or six years have passed.  Next year, we plan on making “Pollyanna” after “A Little Princess Sara” ends, and a new SF series called “Space Sagittarius”.  We’re also going to have one TV special around May.
HIROMICHI MOGAKI (Tsuchida Production Co.)
(Blurb)
Just like what we did in “Tsubasa” and “Kimengumi”, we’re adding our original flavor to animation adapted from manga!
Even with regards to animating manga, the time when you aren’t creative when adapting something is over - just like our approach to our anime “High School! Kimen”.  In manga, the fun is enclosed in a comic cell.  Differing from that, we were able to bring out fun that moves freely (in the anime format).  (Our decision to) put two episodes in one anime has also been well-received.  We are also planning to have an anime TV series next year but all will depend on how long “Captain Tsubasa” will last.  Captain Tsubasa’s storyline is that the finals will end in March, and the European leg will begin.  This will catch up with the manga version’s storyline so I’m thinking of making a new one or taking a temporary break.
MASAYASU SAGISU (Eiken Co., Ltd.)
(Blurb)
Please watch the cooking scenes in the manga  “Oishinbo” animated in a live-action format.
The anime “Sazae-san” is going to be seventeen years old.  I think that the things that last for a long time are not manga for boys or manga for girls but manga for adults such as “Sazae-san” that has a family theme.  But there aren’t many of this kind of anime today.
There has been a lot of SF space anime but nowadays it’s quite possible for kids to go to space someday.  But the world of “Sazae-san” where the grandma, the grandpa, the old maid and the troubles they encounter while living together is farther than space in today’s world of nuclear families.  Conversely, this makes Sazae-san’s storyline fresh.
For next year’s anime, we are developing our plans to animate Mr. Shinji Wada’s manga “Pigmalio”.  We’d also like to do SF action animes, and a totally new genre -  animating Big Comic Spirit’s serialized manga “Oishinbo”.  Following a ten-year cycle, monster animes might come out next year but we’d like to try out new genres.
HIROSHI KATO (Ashi Production Co.)
We are developing original videos for the anime “Dancouga”
Our company has concentrated mainly on original anime and we are continuing with this direction in 1986 and beyond.  Even though our animes are popular, I don’t know why we are edited a lot.  Even “Dancouga” which originally had fifty-two episodes was reduced to thirty-eight and the final story was changed.  We are going to sell a one and a half hour video in March and we’d like to include the real final story in it.  Seventy percent of animators in Japan today are working on collaboration anime. The pay (for collaboration anime) is more than double, so we have to do something about it.
TOSHIHIRO NAGAO (Kaname Production Co.)
I’d like to see different kinds of SF anime.  “Windaria (Once Upon a Time)” is the first step in that direction.
Generally speaking, I’d like to go with polar opposites - simplistic anime that has funny gags and anime that explores heavy themes.  I think our company would like to take a short break after “Windaria” ends and then we’re going to do a lighter anime.  We’ve also talked little by little about producing an anime TV series, but can we really do it with the present situation?  Companies we outsource to are doing a lot of collaboration anime and we don’t have the confidence that we will win the price war and if we dabble in (anime TV series) incorrectly, it will be a death blow.  With this situation, it seems like we will be concentrating on video anime for now.  With regards to the direction of our anime, we’d like to consider doing SF anime with our own touch and foray into different parts, for example, making modern anime like “Radio City Fantasy (Machikado no Marchen)” that merges footage and music.
(Caption for illustration on the left side)
“Mujigen Hunter Fandora”, one of the original video anime from Kaname Production Co..It is said that the second part will be released in March.
YUUJI NUNOKAWA (Studio Pierrot)
(Blurb)
“Magical Emi, the Magic Star” will end in February.  We’re working on the anime that will follow this.
Ever since our “Dallos” anime, anime in the video anime genre have increased, and it’s becoming more and more difficult to foresee what’s ahead.  But I feel our viewer base will return to children after the continuous increase in anime fans.
In our animes’ genres, it seems that we foray into unprincipled things but through trial and error, we are at that stage where we are aiming for our own style.  In 1986, we plan to stop producing transformation-style anime after “Emi” and we are now working on an anime with a witch theme, with a nod to our very first anime.  We have also decided that we will make a sequel to “Rumic World”.
(Box at the lower left side of the page)
If there were animes like this I’d watch it!
MIKI TORI (manga artist)
And yet there are only a few animes wherein you can feel each anime’s distinct character.  I understand that anime is a group effort, but like manga, the director’s tastes dominate.   If the time comes when the writer can say “that is good but this is also good”, I think that anime will become more vibrant.
AKIO YOSHIDA (manga artist)
If I’m going to watch, I might change the channel if they’d revive anime like the long adventure animes of Toei.  It would feel just like watching the movie “Mothra”.
YUKI SAITO (actress and singer)
I was in a manga research group when I was in high school so all I watched were anime from Sunrise.  I like “Gundam” and “Ideon”.  If there were anime in that vein, I think I’d be obsessed again.

A Glance at the Anime World: The Hit men and their Predictions
SHOJI KAWAMORI
(Blurb)
It’s important to have interesting anime that will be universally accepted!
I haven’t really watched TV anime these past two years.  Once you get rid of a habit, it’s not good.  Once you distance yourself from anime, you won’t even be able tell which anime is good and which is bad.  It’s scary to think that I’ve been watching anime by force of habit.
I also haven’t watched that many video animes to be fussy about it but I feel that video animes have become closer in form to manga.   I can’t say though that it’s already at the serialized manga level, but it’s just a matter of time.  But if you’re going to make video anime and you don’t make it differently from TV anime, it will be a waste.  Probably change the design a bit…just like what Mr. Oshii is doing.  Once your attempts go beyond the realm of attempting things and once you’ve achieved something basic, I think we’d probably be able to see the direction of video anime for the first time.  If I were to create video anime, I’d like to make a short sixty minute one, something that is highly concentrated and can’t be fully “digested” in a TV anime format.  Sixty minutes is too short for a movie and too long for TV, and I think it is a length that is untapped and put aside.
Compared to video, TV’s strong point is that you can make serialized anime on TV.  Nicely put, TV is a medium wherein if you don’t have “ordinariness” (badly put, “mass appeal”) you won’t succeed so in this sense TV is a more demanding form of media than video.  I also don’t like the trend wherein anime that don’t appeal to the masses are turned into video anime.  I think that video anime should also have universal appeal.
For 1986, if there are proposals that come my way, I’ll do them.  I still don’t know exactly what I’m going to do.
TOMOKO KONPARU
(Blurb)
With regards to video anime, I have “The Super Girl” and I’d like to try my hand at a new kind of animal anime.
Anime is said to be on a low note right now but I think that the number of anime being produced now is just right because there was a time when the anime that was being produced went over the production capabilities of those in the anime world.  I even think that the number should be reduced by just a little bit more, but only if the quality is improved.  It seems that 30 animes will be released in 1986, but I think that in terms of quality, (those that aren’t good) will be culled.
I don’t have any children yet but as a housewife I don’t think that anime has a bad influence on children.  Since I was little, I myself grew up watching anime.  Even now, from the standpoint of someone making anime, I don’t want to forget about the children.  But on the other hand, I also think that mothers who just park their kids in front of the TV to watch anime isn’t good either.
The anime following “Hai Step Jun” will be “Maple Town”, an animal anime but I don’t want it to be anime with just “good” characters in it.  I want to try making anime for young girls, which will be a new thing for me.
ICHIRO ITANO
(Blurb)
There must be anime that only young animators can do!
I think that mass media has a very strong influence on children.  I want people to be more conscious of that.  I feel that anime that is being made today just to make money is overly increasing - animators don’t question things, or assert themselves.  An extreme example is the Lolita complex boom of late.  If a person is being shown something like (a Lolita anime) from way back (from childhood), that person’s imagination takes precedence instead of the ability to adapt to another human being, and stress builds up as a result.  I think we should oppose this current reality, and as for myself, I plan to try different things.  I wonder what I’d be able to do before I turn thirty-five, and I also think that you can learn from failure.
MITSURU KANEKO (MK Productions)
(Blurb)
The computer is absolutely infiltrating the anime world.
It’s possible to think that in the future, the possibilities of computer graphics will first be used in the industrial fields.   For example, the depth maps of the Japan Coast Guard just have numbers on them now but if you input these numbers into a computer, you’ll be able to see valleys (under the sea) that continue for miles as video images.  And if this (technology) presses forward, for example, there is an (American) masterpiece special effects movie called “Fantastic Voyage” wherein they (physically) made the sets and then shot the film but in the future, you can make the movie set by inputting data in a computer.
Speaking of another side (of this technology), take the example of video images shown on large screens that have been demonstrated at an expo.  Just like what was shown in the expo, video images and 3D images shown on dome-like screens can only be made using a computer.
In this way, the spotlight is now aimed at anime as a means to (showcase technology).  Animation’s possibilities will also become limitless as it will need to respond to the diversification of people’s demands.
(Caption for illustration on the right side of the page)
This is Cindy, a young girl from a biker gang in the anime “Megazone 23 Part 2”.  Mr. Yasuomi Umetsu’s character design is original, as personified in this drawing.  This anime has a different kind of appeal compared to Part 1.
KEISUKE FUJIKAWA (scriptwriter of the anime “Once Upon a Time” or “Legend of Fabulous Battle Windaria”)
I researched and compared the recent trends, the trend in fans’ consciousness about anime and anime programs and from around last year, it seems like the age of wanting “salvation” has come.  I think that in so many ways, we are being stifled and we are seeking breakthroughs.  I think that how anime as a medium is going to lift this issue up is going to be important.   Even “Once Upon a Time”, which we will show in 1986, takes up issues of the present times.  I’m putting emphasis on what I will say to the youth of today through SF that has stories of people in it instead of just hardcore SF.  For this year and the next, I’d like to dig into aspects of the youth in different ways.  I’d like to make anime that makes viewers think that there is something out there that matches their present selves perfectly.
(Caption for illustration on the left side of the page)
This is Anasu, the heroine of “Windaria”.  Illustrated by Ms. Mutsumi Inomata, this character personifies the pure themes of Mr. Fujikawa’s anime.

I’d like to make a video anime that will be a preview of a movie theater anime
With regards to “Odin: Photon Sailor Starlight”, I didn’t make excuses and I haven’t commented on it but there are clear reasons why that movie ended in failure.  That anime was originally a one-hour program, twelve episode TV anime - in other words, it was an anime made to be aired for twelve hours.  I think there was a big mistake in the producers’ thinking that they could digest this into a two and a half hour movie.
I used to say that after 1955, there wouldn’t be a hit anime made for movie theaters.   The same thing is about to happen in the video anime world.  If the overproduction of low-quality anime continues, there will definitely be a backlash.  It seems that the most basic idea during planning anime has been forgotten.  And this basic idea is this: things expressed through anime must rouse people’s imaginations.
We’re planning on releasing an anime for movie theaters on July 9, 1986 based on “Desler”*.  But before that we’re planning on selling a promotion video about the movie in April.  In making this video, budgetary issues, which have always been a concern in video animes, have been set aside so I’m planning on making it in the same high-quality as the movie.  I’m also thinking of releasing a trailer of the movie at the same time.
*Translator’s note: Desler is a character in the anime “Space Battleship Yamato”.

If there were animes like this I’d watch them!
FUJIHIKO HOSONO (manga artist)
I like the works of Mr. Hayao Miyazaki.  I heard that he said that he wanted to make an anime about the Period of Warring States (in Japanese history) so if that anime is made, I’d definitely want to watch it.  Personally, I’d also like Mr. Miyazaki to make ninja anime.  With regards to other animators, I like Mr. Mamoru Oshii, the one who made “Beautiful Dreamer.
SHOJOTAI (a singer/actress trio)
Reiko: Among animated characters, I like Peter Rabbit.  I’d like Peter to guide me into a dreamy nature scene.
Miho: I really like Phillips. I’d like to plunge into a world adventure with a kitty cat.
Tomo: More than anything, I like Snoopy.  I’d watch any number of animes with Snoopy in it.  I’d like to watch happy animes.

also, as im scrolling down your blog, im noticing that it looks like your art is posted as inserts on text posts, since the captions are above the pictures instead of below. is there a specific reason for that? i wonder if that's the reason your art is criminally under-reblogged. maybe ppl look for fanart using the "image" filter, but don't see your art bc it's in a text post format? lol ignore me if this doesn't make sense. im just indignant rn at how off the ratio of notes to your quality posts is, and am trying to figure out how more ppl can find this blog. we 👏 need 👏 to 👏 get 👏 you 👏 famous 👏
Uhhh, I am still kinda new to Tumblr so maybe I am doing something wrong...but when I post I just write the comment and then use that “insert an image” icon. But I tried to look for my art here on Tumblr by typing for example Pedro Pascal in the “photo section” and it was there.....so, I don’t know😁🤔 Maybe my art is just not good enough😁 I have a lot of followers now but especially the irondad followers kinda....stopped reacting to my posts lately....don’t know if they lost interest in the fandom or just my art🤔 Don’t have a clue🤔🙃Doesn’t matter, I still love drawing and still love Irondad to bits❤️
