2. What are you obsessed with right now?

I've been hyperfixating on detective fiction lately! I combed over my entire bookshelf and only found 3 books that would fit the bill (and one of them's technically a crime thriller and not even detective fic proper), so I'm planning on trying out a few Poirot novels in the near future. I used to love mystery stories as a kid but kind fell off the wagon with them as a teenager. Coming back ot them now so long after is really cozy and nostalgic. :3

I also finally saw Knives Out and Glass Onion because of this hyperfixation and I LOVED them, especially Knives Out. Benoit Blanc is my dad now.

6. Describe your dream home.

Something spacious but not like a full blown masion, with a back yard big enough to host parties and a pond with a waterfall. The walls are made of brick or stone and it's got a little tower on one side and a big wooden door with iron hinges. The garden would be full of black flowers and there'd be a trellis swing.

I'd have a room that's a dedicated library, full of dark wood and big cushy seating and warm lights with a dimmer. The door to it would be one of those hidden bookshelf doors. I'd also have a room that's just my art and crafting studio, with big worktops and lots of storage and wide airy windows for lots of natural light. Also a spare bed so if I wear myself out working on a project I can lie down right then and there.

There would also be a fully kitted out kitchen and big dining area for more gatherings, including hosting TTRPG nights for all of my friends. A plush living room, at least one guest room and a bathroom in pastel colors with a big ass bathtub for my goth bathbombs are also in there somewhere.

18. What tattoos do you want?

OOOOOOO YESSSSSS let's see. I want a tattoo of a mandrake plant, probably in the style of those goofy, scrunkly medieval marginalia illustrations.

I definitely need to get a tattoo of a faerie at some point, though I'm not sure exactly what I want that to look like yet.

And I'd really like to get something on my other inner forearm from the Murray twins in Salem, most likely a creepy ass scarecrow or other folk horror inspired piece. That would require me to actually visit Salem though XD

I also have an idea for a sternum piece based on some art from a mausoleum in my local cemetery, which depicts two snakes coiling around an upside down torch with a star above them. That'd be a post top surgery thing, though.

As would my final idea, which I am definitely going to get done, which is a quote from the poem Vultures by Jarod K. Anderson. It'll say "Your old name is not your king/ I rename you 'everything'" right under my top surgery scars.

(sweats) idk what you mean all my friends are hilarious....

29.What's the most overrated movie?

OUGH that's a really broad question so I'm gonna take the cowardly way out and give you a broad answer. I think movies being "good" or not is kind of an overrated concept in general. You could make an absolute dogshit movie on a cheap-ass phone camera with horrible acting and an incoherent plot but at the end of the day if someone had fun watching it, even for the "wrong" reasons, then that's all that matters. And maybe I'm biased because I love campy schlok but, really, the important thing to me is not so much that something was "good" but that it was entertaining. If it also happens to be well put together and/or thought provoking that's a bonus.

Yo! Here’s a short story for you...

@theinsidiouscinnamonroll you said you’d read it? Let me know if it’s good, because it’s for a contest. Also: it was inspired by this song! Anyway, here ya go!

I was born blind. I never got to see the colors, or recognize a human face, or even perceive the ocean. I’d never seen those things before.

After my parents were both dead I ventured out on my own, working where I could, although not a lot of people would even consider hiring a blind boy to clean out their gutters, or sweep their front steps.

Then it happened. I died. I got really sick, and I died.

All my life had been in darkness. All I ever knew was black. But as I slipped away from the London streets, I saw whiteness. Pure white. It wasn’t even blinding. And then, I saw them. White hair, and pale skin. It was a wonder I saw them at all, given all the whiteness around me. They were beautiful, like an angel. Their eyes were a warm red, and it seemed like I was falling into them. At that instant, they disappeared as soon as they had emerged.

I blinked, and the next thing I knew I was walking. In a line. There was white sand under my feet, and a person’s back a few feet in front of me.

I’ve been walking since then. I don’t know how long. I don’t know why I’m walking, or where I’m going. Just that something is commanding me to walk, and I’m obeying. I don’t know if I’m even dead. All I know is that face, and those warm, red eyes.

I’ve been waiting for his part of the line to parade past my father’s fortress. The fortress of black, against the white sand, that watches the Marchers fall into the sea.

My father sent me to collect his soul 136 years ago, I know this because I’ve been counting. I’ve been counting because when I collected him… it was different. His eyes looked different than everyone else’s. Everyone else looked dead. But he was different, instead of looking like the end, he looked like the beginning. Instead of looking like the darkness, he looked like the sun. And he looked at me. The souls never do that. They don’t look at anything. But he looked at me. He looked right into my cold eyes, like they were the warmest thing he’d ever seen. And his eyes…

His eyes looked like melting glass. A pale blue, like the sea. Like the sea by my father’s fortress. The sea I grew up with. My sea.

He father doesn’t know I’ve been counting the days. These days it doesn’t seem like he knows anything. He keeps calling me his daughter. I was his daughter. I’m just his child now. Not a ‘daughter’ or a ‘son’. Just a child. He doesn’t know me or my mind.

Every day I look out my window over our vast land of sand, the entrance to the afterlife, or what we call ‘The Marches’, and try to find him among the Marchers. Sometimes I go down to the pier, where the Marchers jump into the sea, and become positively dead. I don’t know what would happen if I jumped into the sea. I’m immortal, but I still don’t know what would happen.

His name in Adrian Durant, which is quite possibly the prettiest name I’ve ever heard, and he has curly brown hair, and eyes like melting silver. That’s all I know. I don’t know what I’ll do when his part of the line gets into my view.

I don’t know if I can save him, from the pier. I don’t know if he would let me save him.I don’t know what I’m doing, but I know that I have to see him.

It started as a black smudge, and then it grew into a vast castle of smooth black stone. There’s water too. So much water. It’s pale blue. I’ve never seen that color before. My clothes are blue, but they’re nothing even remoting close to this blue.

And there’s a pier.

As I near the edge of sand, where this new world drops into the pale blue, soundless sea, I start to see where I’m going. I’m going into the sea. Is this how people go to heaven? They go to it through the ocean? Is that where my grave is? I want to know these things, I have to know these things. Because I’ve never seen the world before, and I’m not ready to leave it.

The people in the line are looking straight ahead. They are emotionless, they haven’t even looked at the castle of black near the pier. They don’t even hesitate when they jump into the water.

There must be people in the castle, maybe they can help me. Maybe they can give me more time. Maybe they’ll understand.

I will my feet to move, because they’ve been moving on their own accord for so long, and step to the left, out of the line. I start to run toward the castle of black silk, but am stopped by a hand on my arm. The hand belongs to the man marching in front of me. I shiver, since I haven’t been touched for so long.

The marchers all shout in unison, even the ones jumping off the pier, “This line is the only way!”

The man, who has my arm, pulls be back into the line, and my feet begin to unconsciously move again.

Anima

I hear the Marchers shout, and run to the window. One of them has come out of the line. I start to walk away from the window, thinking that my father can take care of it, but stop when I see the disobedient Marcher’s hair. Its curly, and brown.

I’m already barreling out of my father’s obsidian masion, when I see the Marchers pull Adrian back into the line, and he starts to march with them again.

At first, I’m not sure it’s him, so I call out to him, “Adrian!” My voice is hoarse, and raw from emotion

He turns his head to look at me, while still walking away, and his eyes widen when he sees me.

He recognizes me, after all these years…

And he does recognize me, despite not knowing my name, despite only seeing me for a split second. Despite it being 136 years.

Adrian

I recognize them right away. How could I forget those eyes?

I realize that I’m still marching, away from where they stand, watching me. I try to stop moving, but I can’t. It’s like, whatever is controlling me, has tightened it’s grip on my feet.

“I can’t move,” I howl at them.

This seems to break them from their trance, and they run to me, taking my hand in theirs Their hands are scarred, I wander who scarred them. Did they cut themselves? On purpose?

They start running, taking me with them. They are so fast, inhumanly fast. I glance back at the line, and find that someone has already taken my place.

They take me to the pier. I’m afraid that I will be pulled back into the line, but the marchers don’t even acknowledge me.

“What’s your name?” I ask them. I’ve been pondering their name for so long…

“Anima Devora.” They don’t even need to catch their breath.

“Where am I?”

“The entrance to the afterlife,” Anima points to the sea. “That’s the afterlife.”

“Am I dead?”

“Yes.”

“How long…?”

“136 years.”

I wonder if they’ve been counting. I would’ve counted too, but my brain is so subdued, it’s a wonder I even remembered their face. Or my own name.

“You’re beautiful,” I say. “I’ve been wanting to tell you that for so long.”

Their pale skin turns bright pink, bringing out their red eyes. “T-thank you…”

“What do we do?”

“I don’t know.”

We both look at the water below us.

“What happens when you jump?” I ask.

“I don’t know.”

“Would we go to the same place? Would you die too?”

“I don’t know. But I don’t know what else to do.”

“Do you love me?”

“Yes.”

“I love you too.” I smiled.

Anima takes a deep breath, “What was your favorite part of the world, Adrian?”

Anima

“You,” he says.

“I’m not part of your world.”

“But you’re a part of this world, and that’s all that matters.” He takes my hand.

And we jump.

…

I think my soul is being ripped out, because my senses aren’t working. I can’t see, or hear.

But I can feel.

I can feel Adrian, and he’s so calm, that it reassures me.

Everything is going to be ok.

I’ve thought about death for so long, and wanted it so bad. I thought that dying would calm my mind. But it just makes it louder.

And for once…that’s ok.
