youtube is now pushing me ads for the new velma show and it just. it looks really, really bad ngl

the concept in and of itself (darker/more adult scooby doo with velma lead, but still animated) is actually totally fine. the cast is totally fine, the diversity changes are totally fine. but the writing is *awful* if the trailers are any indication.

"adult cartoon" has been conflated with "wise cracking, jaded main character" in recent years, but that take just fundamentally does not work with velma fucking dinkley. she is, at MOST, built to be a somewhat sarcastic straightman. worse, it totally abandons the spirit of the original. nobody in the scooby gang is a jaded jerk. they're just weird nosy teens.

honestly starting to feel like they're never going to make another "modernized" scooby that's as good as mystery incorporated

Rick and Morty is a good show to watch while high.
