Why do people criticize the House of the Hearth (and Arlecchino) for taking in orphans that can be Fatui agents when they grow up?
Remember Klee? The Spark Knight? The kid who plays with bombs and causes property damage?
Tumblr media
Klee is a little girl, and yet she's officially considered a Knight of Favonius even if she's the only kid there. She might be cute and her destructive tendencies might be played for laughs, but she's officially a child soldier.
Edit: I legit forgot about Mika
Tumblr media
Mika is a kid/teen who's an official member of the Knights of Favonius who Grand Master Varka brought on an expedition. He's an older child soldier than Klee.
Edit: I also forgot about Diluc who was a teenager when he joined the Knights of Favonius, as per his father's wishes for him to become the most esteemed Knight of all for the sake of their home, which lead to him becoming the youngest-ever Calvary Captain. And Diluc explicitly quit after his 18th birthday when his father died. So yeah, Diluc was also a child soldier for the KoF.
Bennett and Fischl are both teenagers (Fischl, I'm a little unsure of, but I'm pretty sure she's a teen), and they both have jobs as members of the Adventurer's Guild, with commissions/quests that can range from benign to dangerous. Bennett is especially notable since he was orphaned as a baby and raised by a bunch of senior members of the Guild before he himself became a member. So Bennett and Fischl could also be considered child soldiers.
And then of course there's Sayu. You know, the child ninja for the Shuumatsuban? An Inazuman organization that reports to Ayato and deals with espionage, combat, and assassinations?
Tumblr media
Remember how Lyney said that betrayal was not tolerated at the House of the Hearth?
And remember what Ayato had to say about the Shuumastuban?
Tumblr media
And look what Sayu's character details say.
Tumblr media
For those who have played Sayu's hangout quest, remember that she was given a mission to assassinate the Traveler. And she's a kid.
And the man who gave her the order was surprised and horrified that she actually carried it out before finding out she and the Traveler had tricked him. He wasn't surprised because Sayu, a kid, had allegedly killed someone, it was because he thought she would be too lazy to actually do it.
Tumblr media
As lazy and silly as Sayu is, it can be easy to forget that Sayu is indeed a child soldier. Ayato and the Shuumatsuban are the most similar to Arlecchino and the House of the Hearth, but I haven't seen anyone throw shade at Ayato, who in spite of being one of the good guys, is a scheming and manipulative person when need be. So why do people side eye the House of the Hearth, but not the Knights of Favonius, the Adventurer's Guild, and the Shuumatsuban for having child operatives? Because the latter three are on the protagonist's side? Because they're treated in a lighthearted manner or only elaborated on in character stories that not everyone reads? A lot of fictional stories (especially fantasy media) have teen and child heroes who act as warriors/soldiers and it's not like Teyvat/Genshin Impact has any qualms about having children be fighters. In fact, Hoyoverse in general has no issue with having child and teen characters, protagonists or antagonists, be soldiers in their games (in Honkai Impact 3rd, there's a whole school dedicated to training teenagers to be soldiers to fight against the Honkai), so why do some people have an issue with the House of the Hearth? Especially since in Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet's character stories, there's no mistreatment by Arlecchino?

hi this is kind of random but. ive seen a few posts so far from people in the fandom expressing they don't like/aren't interested in mikayuu anymore and i was curious if you knew why? it's been like a long time since i was into ons (like 2018? 😭) so im pretty out of the loop and was wondering if smth crazy happened ig lol 😭
I'm more of a recent addition to the fandom (watched/read ons for the 1st time in 2021 lol) but here's what I observed I think (not sure if you've read the manga but just in case huge spoiler warning)(also I may or may not be biased against them since my favs are the vampires and shinoa squad without mikayuu lol):
- there is just too much of them. Obviously they're the main characters but ons always had a colorful cast of characters and a lot of them (mainly Shinoa squad tbh) were sidelined during the shibuya arc and basically turned into cardboard cutouts that shout "Yuu!" every few chapters. Though they did get their personalities back in ch 133, it took way too long imo.
- Mikayuu barley changed as people and their relationship stayed basically the same. Once they reunited and Mika 'joined' Shinoa squad their relationship dynamic could be boiled down to: Yuu is kinda stupid and wants to do smth bc fAmLIy or whatever, Mika disagrees, Yuu does the equivalent of puppy dog eyes, Mika begrudgingly agrees, Yuu gets what he wants with minimal consequenz. After a while it's just not interesting to have the main character constantly winning. Heck, Mika's 'death' and demon transformation barley did anything in the long run.
Like at one point, it got brought up that Mika is losing his emotions for everything except Yuu, which was a pretty interesting idea and could have brought conflict into their realtionship. But a few weeks later (in-story, took a few years irl lol) Mika gets turned into a demon, regains his emotions and the former conflict is left in the dust.
Now with Mika as a demon, he lost all of his agency. He is literally stuck to Yuu and the most he can do against him is refuse to give him power but Yuu can just force it out of him so. Pretty fucked.
After they split off from the main group post Shibuya arc, they once again have an inkling of a conflict.
For context, they split off bc Yuu had to either choose between resurrecting humanity or only Mika (at least that's how Guren phrased it). Yuu's gayass chose Mika and at first they had an argument bc Mika doesn't value his life and would rather have everyone revived at his expense. Yuu goes 'nuh-uh' and makes a run for it, devoures Asuramaru/Ashera in the process.
Once they've run off, Mika confornts Yuu and shouts at him, saying he should have a happy life with his human family instead of Mika. Yuu once again goes "nuh-uh" and decides to revive all of humanity, Mika included.
- They restate their goal, plans and whatnot too much. Ons is a monthly manga with ~35 pages per chapter. In Mikayuu centric chapters, almost half (if not all) are wasted on restating the goals they've stated LAST FUCKING CHAPTER. Maybe Kagami doesn't trust the readers memory but man, you didn't do this before, did you? Why now all of a sudden? There's plenty of plot to get through, we can reread old chapters if we forget something.
There's also way too much goofing around. Obviously down-time is needed in any action packed series but we've gotten so much random cut-ins of Yuu needing food in what are supposed to be tense moments. Also we do not need an entire chapter of them hunting, eating and talking about their plans and others plans.
-
This is all I remembered off the top of my head, anyone feel free to add more

Seraph of The End and its plot
Let me clarify this: Seraph of The End is a masterpiece, a work of literary art. Despite this, it has a lot of problems with its plot.
Let me state the extremely obvious; Seraph of The End is on an acid trip at this point of the plot. There's a lot of plot twists, and definitely some plot inconsistencies. This is probably because Kagami is changing up stuff so that it matches with his ideal outcome/ending for it, of course. Not to say it's near, since it's still a total clusterfuck and a lot of things have to be clarified before the manga can progress (not to mention it is MONTHLY, so we get 12 chapters per year to work with).
I personally, don't understand how YUU is MIKAELA. This is physically impossible, because, we know that Yuu is the eyeball. Not the fucking human???? unless Yuu is being stupid again and misreading his memories. Like, Michaela named the eyeball, the first Yuu, you know... Yuu. That just doesn't make sense. The eyeball basically gave life to a bunch of humans, so it would more be Yuu's child than a vessel of Yuu. Michaela and Yuu do not appear to be similar at all. You can tell because of the way his personality starts out. A fearful child, and a generic tsundere teenager. He just grows more innocent and foolishly blinded by his affection for life as time progresses. Michaela isn't exactly innocent in the child-like sense, he's more curious. Curious as to why life is... well, life. Honestly, I just don't get it at all. I just have no other way to explain it.
And then, where would Mikaela get his personality from? We know he's a successful clone of Michaela, but we don't know much about him [MIKAELA] as a person. We know a lot about Yuu, he's the first main lead; who the story is about. However, the story is centric around Mika too. So, it's inconsistent and just all the more confusing.
Shinoa Squad, GureMahi, and KrulFeri. (Not using their names as shipping, but more of an abbrev. for their names since theyre seen together) What about them? We have no idea what's going on with them. Since, our original leads in the previous plot arc was centric around them too. Shinoa Squad has been there from the start, so what'll be made of that? Seriously, seems like Kagami just cut them out and forgot them.
The plot is literally inconsistent as shit. Everything went downhill from the conversion of Mika to cursed gear and forth. After that it just got so much more confusing than it actually should be. And yet again, the story falls victim to the plot inconsistencies! Wow. Surprising. The story still remains interesting, but it's still extremely, extremely confusing. This may also ward off newer readers, because it's just not easy to wrap your head around unless you like overanalyzing stuff.
[END. If you are a MikaYuu or YuuNoa shipper, continue reading.]
Alright, now there's two possible ship endings that I can think of right now when it comes to our main leads.
A.) MikaYuu. They've been together from the start, they are the epitome of "It was always you", sacrificed everything to be with each other, show parallels to a ship considered "semi-canon" according to the ship wiki (this being GureMahi, as it has the most material to have parallels be made to)., and of course is a fan favorite. This can work, if Kagami decides to please his readers with something that you wouldn't see in a shounen: queers. I can see the world ending again, with Mika and Yuu sitting together, smiling at the destruction. [Although, I picture Mika slightly less happy.] Yuu and Mika watch as their greed has caused all of this, but they just don't seem to care all that much. After all, they're together.
B.) YuuNoa. They're the main leads. Main female, main male. They display parallels to GureMahi as well (but I find they have less), Shinoa's canon crush on Yuuichirou (that I will write a masterpost analyzing later), it's a shounen there has to be some straights somewhere, maybe Shinoa's love will have some good outcome for her. For YuuNoa, I picture that Yuu decides to revive the world (with Mika being by his side, can't kill off the main guy completely), with Shinoa finally having the strength to profess her love. Yuuichirou being like "WOW!! You like me!? AWESOME!!!!" and boom, they hold hands or something.
I'm mentioning these potential endings because shounen has some kind of outcome for their main characters. (ex: naruto's marriage, goku and chichi, ichigo and orihime, etc.) Of course, it's up to Kagami with what he wants to do with the romantic tensions. As for my stance on ships? Whatever seems the most canon at that moment is what I will support. Of course, as long as it isn't fucking disgusting. At this moment, it looks like MikaYuu is going to be canon. This may change, but I'm all for some queers.
SO, to conclude: Owari no Seraph is kind of a clusterfuck, and that's not a good thing. If it's gonna be saved, Kagami has a lot of explaining to do. Potential endings with ships can happen, depending on what Kagami wants to do with the story.
Send asks about topics you want me to maybe cover!! I'd love to do that :)

Hi! I recently finished The Broken Earth, and I wanted to say thank you thank you not just for a super well written story with great characters, but also for such well researched and well portrayed geology. It’s not very often I even see my chosen field written about, much less written about so well. It was really exciting for me.
Is there anything you learned that you still carry with you, or that you still like talking about?
Thank you! And I'd guess the best things I learned from all of it are more about disaster preparedness than geology/geophysics. Like, always have a "go" bag (or "runny sack," per the books). That's always been a recommendation for people living in NYC (open out "gather supplies") because we seem to be a little disaster-prone as cities go, but pre-Broken Earth my go bag was light on things I should've had and heavy on crap. The crap was partly because I started research for that book among preppers, and... yeah, no. There are soooo many scams aimed at preppers, and so much advice floating around those communities that's 100% nonsense. So after research I improved my go bag by a lot, I think.
The other takeaway was something I got from my launch party for the Broken Earth a few years back, at which I hosted Mika McKinnon, an amazing and hilarious expert on geophysics, disasters, and more. She talked about how one of the best things you can do to prepare for a disaster is get to know your neighbors. For example, if people have been in your house, they'll know where the bedroom is and where to start digging if your house collapses. So good ol' human interaction is a literal lifesaver. As a person who has social anxiety (and a lot of New Yorkish standoffishness), I sometimes need a reason to make myself talk to strangers -- and hey, "It might save my life" is a pretty good reason!

tagged by @smollestduck-sketches !!! thankies!! also i'm gonna extend this to fics ive written but never published bc the only fics I've published were my frantic fanfics with some friends LSKSLKDJ
1. how many works?
If we count each franfic fanfic, then easily over twenty. A lot of my fics are half-finished though so if we discount them and the frantic fanfics, then more like 3 or 5? Probably just 1 actually smh
2. total word count?
Uhhh...... Lemme count rq. 1800 on the frantics (not distinguishing between my writing and my friends' writing), and then 7200 from whatevers in the obsidian document I opened. Theres more on scrivener and random sheets of paper, but my laptop is slow and I don't have time to find them all :(
3. what fandoms do u write for?
Twst and Enstars, pretty much. Technically some crossovers with Sam & Max as well!! Ig technically OM as well then
4. top 5 fics by kudos
Don't have any :(
5. do u respond to comments?
I would if I got them!!
6. fic u wrote with the angstiest ending?
That one fic about Cherio angsting over Trickstar (i think it's on my old laptop and that one's even slower smh. I gotta transfer these things at some point. If I find it, maybe I'll post it!! But it was a mild vent fic)
7. fic u wrote with the happiest ending?
All of my fics are mildly hopeful (if I finish them) but I liked this one Cherio lore Mally birthday fic I wrote where rat-kun showed up and ate his cake. I could probably post that one, but it doesn't make much sense without the Cherio lore context (which I haven't written down yet :( )
8. do u get hate on fics?
Yeah, from myself (I'm jk, I don't hate my writing)
9. do u write smut?
Teehee :3 Technically, I have. Probably won't do it again, though. Eh, we'll see.
10. craziest crossover fics?
OM and Sam & Max
11. have u ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of
12. ever had a fic translated?
Very, very technically yes though bc I would write fics in class in a secret script and then decode them at home SLKD (but, as I said, that's more decoding than translating)
13. ever co-written a fic?
Yes! The frantics
14. all time favorite ship?
Lilia Vanrouge x urmom /j Serious answer, idek ;v; Anything that makes Mika or Malleus happy, I suppose! (ShuNaruMika especially). I'd also say anything that makes Lilia happy but you can't really ship him with anyone bc he's so old it'll always be a little weird
15. what's a wip u wanna finish but doubt u will?
Cherio Lore :( I can write a synopsis of it, but I really want to organically present the ideas through typical novel writing as practice before I really write my own stories. Alas, idk what happens in the middle (as always)
16. writing strengths?
Abstract descriptions! I hope, at least. I love writing them!!
17. writing weaknesses?
Dialogue fs. Idk how people talk. Also, sentence variation. I'm a predictable guy and I have my favorite words!!
18. thoughts on dialogue in another language?
The thing is, if it's in a different script to the language you're writing in (for example, English and Japanese), there's not a way for the reader to read it, yk? And idk if there's a way to organically integrate a translation. Even if your reader isn't supposed to know what they're saying, what's the point in including the dialogue in the first place? You can just say they said something in Japanese. Unless it's assumed your reader knows the other language, then it adds some dramatic irony. Ofc, there's gonna be ways you can fit it in well since each situation is different, but I wouldn't add it explicitly in quotations, per se. This is coming from a semi-bilingual language nerd semi-studying to be an editor (aka, don't take it to heart bc I'm not a professional)
19. first fandom u wrote in?
Bnha. Bad, bad, bad stuff. I get chills thinking about it.
20. fav fic youve written?
Any Lilia angst, tbh. I don't even care for angst why do I always write Lilia angst istg (and it's delicious every time)
This was fun!! Hopefully it was interesting!!
I pass this game onto you, my friends :>

hiiiii muse page list update post i meant to do earlier but then i had icecream and did other things instead peace sign
this is for the full one on my page, srry i dont have it elsewhere/on my pinned yet. eventually. peace sign. as per always my multi is a billion times messier than my other blogs(guy who cant shut up)👍👍👍 atm the most proper writing will be happening on akira. probably
added general links of the gbf main story archive, and the a3 & prommy of wizard main story translations👍
on that note added sakuya & misumi (a3!) & chloe, figaro & mitile (promise of wizard) except figaro is mostly type0 verse & mitile will likely lean toward gbf au for a lil bit. thats not to say theyll stay this way (im about to reread+finish main story pt2), its just that i unfortunately am obsessed with type0. i will probably eventually put the rest of spring troupe on my 'wanna pick up' list....(person whos oshi is omi
on that note i should make a new type0 oc i need a silly class9 girlie SO bad. that was the foolery secret intel class right
i can not explain why type0 lives this much in my head
natsume (natsume yuujinchou) is on the list too now. lanna & lumina (island of happiness/a wonderful life) are there for now we'll see who else i add. none have descriptions yet, i know i have one for lanna & natsume from olds blogs but :[ i didnt wanna today
updated mika's (gbf) page with the text i wrote a while back, i'll revise it in the future. fenrir, morphe&phoebe, thelonim has events&fate eps linked on their pages now. emu has the official playlists of wxs main story & her first focus event added.
none of these links are meant in a 'check these', but rather, if you ever get interested in any of the media/characters, there's places to check. i should add the wxs digest anime to emus oh my god i forgot about that one
all the new charas are gonna take some months to be implemented properly...<3 i havent started rereading a3 still & i took a break from natsuyuu when my dog got surgery in february. they're there cuz i felt like updating the lists with links, and figured why not add the rest too. lots of descriptions are missing still. 'then why even add them' because faty was alrdy sending me stuff for figaro so why not actually put him on the list sunglass emoji
i added it on the muse page too, but if u dont know where to start then emu & fenrir are always good choices👍 once my emu break is over ill get back to all of that. phoebe is also a good choice thinking about it...

I thought it might be useful, for me and for you, dear reader, to have some sort of index for everything that's populated this blog over the past few years. Thus, here is a list of links to the musings and ramblings of one bi Englishman.
(I am of the generation taught to be extremely leery about sharing personal details on the internet but I fear the cat is out of the bag on at least these aspects of my positionality.)
This may be spun off into multiple posts because I think I have discovered where Tumblr's limit on 'number of links in a post' lies.

I like to think that this was the moment they decided to unravel that awkward lad later that night. ♥️ Many thanks to the best in the world @wunderlichkind for the inspiration. I hope it's about what you wanted (even if a bit late. and a bit short (in my defence it's really hard to write one-handed))
Also seeing as there is no fic with that pairing so far (I think...) it even fits in this week's osws fandom challenge's subject "rarepairs". 💪🏼
In Andorra
rating: E pairing: Mikaela Shiffrin/Aleksander Aamodt Kilde/Marco Odermatt characters: Mikaela Shiffrin, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Marco Odermatt length: 750 words
"And do you…" Marco paused, and cleared his throat. It did not help though, his voice still did not sound as firm as he wished. Or as his dick was. "Do you do this often?"
He failed again at keeping control over himself, and let out a decidedly unmanly, high-pitched sigh when Aleks' soft lips and scratchy stubble left the crook of his thigh.
"Generally, yeah," Aleks said slowly, and looked at Marco with a slight frown, as if he doubted his mental capacities. "We go to bed about once per day."
Marco laughed, and let his head fall back into the pillow. Aleks grinned, and though his lips were no longer on Marco, his hands were still stroking circles around his thighs and his achingly hard dick.
"That is a really personal question," Mika said before Marco could speak. She pulled her trousers over her bare feet, and folded them neatly before putting them down on a chair. "Or would you like us to ask you about your party last year?"
Marco felt Aleks' chuckles more than he heard them. He glanced over to the small table pressed against the wall of the hotel room, and the assortment of big and small glass globes that tested its weight limits.
"We heard the stories…" Aleks added, and Mika giggled. The mattress dipped beneath Marco's legs as she sat down with her back to Aleks.
"That's good," Marco said with his eyes firmly closed, his head spinning from more than just alcohol. "In that case could you tell them to me? Because I don't remember a thing from that night."
Mika and Aleks laughed, and Marco gasped because something touched the tip of his dick leaking all over his stomach. With expert ease, Mika pulled the rubber over his shaft before straddling his hips. Marco bit down hard on his lips but the warmth of her skin on his thighs, on his hips, against his balls, was almost too much.
"I'm a bit busy right now," Mika said softly, and rocked the tiniest bit forward. Marco managed to reduce the shameless moan to a hum, though the force needed to keep his mouth shut made him fear for his jaw bone. His hands were hovering in the air, as if there was still any question left. Mika found it just as amusing, she laughed again when she grabbed them, and put them down on her hips. Her skin was hot and soft, and Marco could feel the muscles roll under his touch.
"Maybe Aleks could tell you," she whispered, and moved even further, rubbing her slick pussy against his erection.
The mattress dipped again, and Marco found himself face to face with him.
"Sorry, I can't either. I'm in a bit of a pickle to be honest." Aleks smiled at him, his head propped up on one arm. "Maybe you could help me?"
Nobody moved for a few heartbeats, as long as it took Marco to realise that he was expected to answer.
"Yeah," he rasped eventually. "Sure."
"Cool," Aleks chuckled, grabbed Marco's hand from Mika's hip, and wrapped it around his hard dick. With a contended smile he closed his eyes as Marco began to stroke him unprompted.
"That's better," he sighed.
“Queue-jumper!” Mika said, though her grin betrayed the fondness behind her words.
“Never!” Aleks answered, and pulled her down in a kiss. Mika broke away first, and pushed Aleks back into the mattress.
“We’re not finished,” she said, and tightened the straddle around Marco’s hips.
“I don’t want to interrupt your thing,” he moaned, holding onto Mika as if he was drowning.
Aleks settled again close to him, and ran his fingers over Marco’s chest. “Not at all. Do you mind if I watch?”
Marco laughed but it was cut short when Mika moved again, and the hot friction of her skin shot straight up his spine. “Fuck!”
Aleks’ fingers kept stroking his skin, across his chest and throat, until he was cupping his cheek. Marco sucked in air with ragged breaths, his whole body lit on fire by the touches of Mika and Aleks.
“Do you mind if I do this?” Aleks whispered, his breath hot against Marco’s lips, before he closed the gap between them, in the exact same second as Mika lined Marco up against her crack, and sank down. Aleks caught the obscene moans falling from Marco’s lips, and Mika leant hard against his arched chest, and neither of them showed any mercy as Marco fell to pieces in their hands.

I also. As much as she was kimda.. annoying.. I like Mikas role in the story as she is kimda if ginoza went on the extremes the other way.. being the praise of the system and finding no flaws.. and in context of how she grew up everyone is brainwashed to believe 100% in said system.. and like she's so complex I appreciated her role as I never see it done for female characters idk? Does she suck? Yeah , bit it makes sense and it's so.. interesting to see someone just be .. so annoyed at akane for being who she is.. idk I'm not a defender of Mikas actions just .. her as a character you know?? Also the added fact she's. Really young much like akane.. its a good juxtaposition to how akane started and head in hands.
yeah she's not a nice character per say but it's cool to see a girl take on that role and considering how she was literally a kid starting her job it's not really surprising that she couldn't handle the pressure and didn't know how to navigate workplace relationships especially with the biases she's been brought up with. honestly she did quite well given how little effort akane made into trying to break her out from sibyls spell and since she was still so convinced of it she basically just got fucked over when togane and his mum decided to fuck her over for the sake of taking advantage of her position to target akane

Hello I’m tasting a lack of Endless Coda-verse fics.
I’m unironically so invested in this April Fools universe, I almost (ALMOST) want an anime of it over Element. I want to consume any media of it and watch Eichi’s direct body count skyrocket in a world where he’s allowed to kill people at his own leisure. I want real, physical consequences to everyone’s words and actions and for the station to look like Danganronpa.
That said, I’m back on my shit, I come bearing a fic idea that I’ll never write. As ever, feel free to take it and use it as you please.
Warnings: Endless Coda story spoilers, leans into immoral villain Eichi, death death death death, manipulation and the like, the dove isn’t dead but it might need a bandaid.
I’m thinking more War Era w the Eccentrics since Shu mentioned 5 Eccentrics, leaning into the first anime’s version of Eichi’s obsession.
Setting likely another older space station, the Yumenosaki if you would. Doubles as an idol academy and a mecha pilot academy.
It follows the War closely at first what w the abysmal condition of the school and student body. Rei is in charge-ish and the clubs still exist, the DreFes fighting hasn’t become popular yet.
Officially the only mecha are one per established group for their leaders (Ryuuseitai’s Madara and Valkyrie’s Shu), the council leader (Rei), and personal ones for individual’s with the money to spend on it (Hokuto, Subaru, Ritsu, Kanata, Eichi, etc).
Once the Eccentrics are established by Eichi, Wataru and Natsume both receive their own mecha. Then, once units are being formed (ex-fine, Knights, AKATSUKI) they supply/are supplied mecha per member.
Eichi’s body count just skyrockets from the get-go. The mecha fight DreFes let him get away with outright murder + the s//c/d/ rates caused by the stress he puts on the students. Look at him, the little go-getter- murdering his way to martyrdom /ref.
And obv there’s the cloning thing. And the implanted memories into the clones. Technically that overrules Eichi being ill but he would have had to be dying at least a little bit when it was discovered.
The plot gets funny once the Eccentrics are formed, pov probably always one of them w smaller chapters for people affected by the war (Nagisa, Hiyori, Tsumugi Aoba, Hokuto, Mika, etc).
The bullying and social isolation all still happen but it’s decidedly worse in Coda-verse since killing and maiming is okay apparently. What happens is that, just like with THAT Valkyrie performance, some if fine’s fans go the extra mile to try and decommission the Eccentrics entirely through attacking them. Eichi never lets it get far and always arranges for something to interrupt so that the targeted Eccentric is always just hurt enough that they can push through it and appear as amazing as ever.
The Valkyrie loss goes more or less the same. It wasn’t a DreFes so there wasn’t any fighting, the audio gets cut, and Shu has his mental breakdown.
Rei’s incidents also are the same, he gets sent to other space station academies to fix issues that people ask him to help with.
Eventually one of these attempts get a little too far w Kanata, happening a little while after Shu’s public humiliation. Someone tries drowning him (the endless puka puka) and nothing stops them this time, thankfully someone else finds Kanata in time to resuscitate him. It can be Mama, Kaoru, or Souma, they’re all valid options for this.
The next time the older Eccentrics meet after that incident, they decide that now is the time to squirrel Natsume away for his own sake. Unfortunately, that means that the number of targets lowered from five to three (occasionally two) and the bullying just gets that much worse.
Eventually comes time for Wataru and Hokuto versus fine (and this is where things get really canon divergent-y). Because that one is a DreFes, they will be fighting in mecha for a 2 v 4. Obviously the odds are against them.
Beforehand, Wataru does say goodbye to the Eccentrics because, just like normal, he knows he can’t win- both because he literally cannot as it’s a losing fight and because that’s what the script calls for, a dramatic climax for the ages. First is Kanata, then Rei and Natsume (the scene in which Natsume tries to give Wataru a different script to save himself). He doesn’t, however, get to say goodbye to Shu who was locked inside of his room.
What’s happening with Shu is one of Eichi’s schemes. I haven’t thought of the reasoning, maybe Shu had recovered himself just enough to still slander Eichi and he decided that just won’t do. So, capitalizing off the fact that Shu has been taking to hiding in his room and locking the door, Eichi has someone (a fan, maybe Tsumugi Aoba, or Eichi himself) lock it from the outside w admin codes so he can’t get out. After all, what could be more crushing than watching your friend get executed right in front of you with no escape?
This is going by a HC I have for DreFes in general both in and out of Coda-verse in which (at Yumenosaki) you can’t change a screen connected to the school’s internet off from the current on-going DreFes. More specific to Coda-verse but I imagine there are cameras in the cockpits of the mecha, just like the obligatory shots of the pilots screaming when something pokes the mecha (I’ve never understood this, the robot’s leg got cut off not yours).
So, with Shu locked in his room and incapable of finding any comfort and with Natsume + Rei watching the fight firsthand (god knows where Kanata is), the DreFes begins. It’s a losing fight for Wataru from the get-go, even moreso because he’s going out of his way to protect Hokuto as needed. Eventually, Eichi or Tsumugi Aoba manage to damage Wataru’s mecha enough that it can’t move, making them the victors of the DreFes. Most of the feeds take an intermission break at this point except for Shu’s.
See, while Eichi’s plot to break Shu more was working to plan, his idea to make to make sure that the feed showed him every moment of the execution did backfire somewhat. Whether or not Shu knows it, he’s the only one to witness Wataru being removed from his mecha unconscious (or dead) after losing before it can be returned to the docking bay for him to be taken to medical if needed.
If he did die inside the mecha, I assume that the usual camera feed automatically cuts off if there’s damage to the cockpit that would harm the pilot since it would ruin the image of Yumenosaki.
So, since Wataru isn’t in the cockpit anymore when the people in docking bay try to get him to come out, they assume as first he’s a sore loser (because blah blah blah slander the Eccentrics), then (while fine’s live is going on) they finally think to check on him in the case he’s unconscious, and obviously when they open the cockpit he’s not there anymore. They assume he ran away.
From there, fine has their final performance and disbands. The Eccentrics are going through it.
Eichi only announces that Wataru passed away the following day due to a gas leak in his Mecca’s cockpit caused by a fuel line rupturing during the DreFes. Natsume is inconsolable and that’s important because of his eventual reconciliation with Tsumugi Aoba.
When Tsumugi attempts to apologize to Natsume and all that (the burning stuff behind the school scene I think), he mentions he can’t forgive someone who helped kill Wataru. Tsumugi drops the bomb that Wataru isn’t dead and is generally confused as to why Natsume thought that he would be. According to Tsumugi, he’s seen Wataru in the council room a few times since the DreFes.
Natsume gets the other Eccentrics (including Shu), much to their dismay that he has left hiding when the tensions have yet to settle. They’re a lot more understanding once he tells them about what Tsumugi has said. They decide to go straight to the council room to confront Eichi and ‘rescue’ Wataru.
They’re both there when the Eccentrics reach them. Wataru is happy to see them but not happy in the sense one would be to see a rescuer and more in the way of seeing a friend. He’s acting like nothing had happened out of the DreFes and a lot more familiar with Eichi than he was before (more like main !-era interactions). The Eccentrics get the sense that something is wrong but Eichi assures them that this is exactly what Wataru had wanted (which he affirms). When asked about telling everyone that Wataru had died, he explains that Wataru was hurt badly and had requested he be disappeared from the stage for a little while to recuperate. (He doesn’t look injured though)
I can’t be bothered to write more but eventually after the Eccentrics leave that little meeting, they splinter more. At some point one of them decides that they can’t just hide by Wataru acting so unusually even for him, they end up finding proof that Wataru was taken out of his mecha, they eventually find more clues to connect the dots, find out that Wataru had died during the DreFes but was replaced by a successful clone of him who lacks the precise memories of the DreFes itself and the animosity it should feel for Eichi, and all the Eccentrics die when they go to confront Eichi. Epilogue is one of them waking up from ‘hibernation,’ implying that they’ve been cloned themselves.

Some thought dumps on recent STL chapters
Heads up before I ramble off on some of my thoughts!! I didn’t manage to catch the new girl’s name so I’ll consistently refer to her as “New Girl” ahah.
So I thought of something interesting the other day after the new chapter released where **SPOILERS** Mitsumi decided to call it quits — as both her & Shima weren’t feeling into it with their current life circumstances, personal feelings, and the timing. 2 chapters ago, we were introduced to the New Girl when Mitsuma and Shima have a major falling out. And she proves herself not malicious (she isn’t there to cause trouble for our main characters or anyone else) but very perceptive at understanding other people, their backgrounds, and a peak into their psyche. Note this line below, as I find it particularly interesting:
Tumblr media
Chapter 44
She mentions the good fortune and privilege of Mitsumi’s background — one where she’s had a supportive family, childhood friend, and hometown community her entire life. And although we can sense her words have a tinge of spite within them, we also know they aren’t directed towards being harmful. She notes her observations of both Shima and Mitsumi, things that are a deciding favor in how they behave in a social environment. And although I don’t necessarily agree with her logic, nor do I agree at all with Shima not standing up for Mitsumi when the other girls were clearly teasing her, I find her perspective very nuanced and interesting.
She’s the quicker character to catch on to something many others don’t. Namely, how Shima avoids conflict because he’s always been conditioned to do so for other people’s desires — to the point where we see his mom has previously taken advantage of him (forcing him to act for her happiness, as an example) and where he pushes himself along to other’s whims against his own wants (with Ririka, the girl he previously agreed to date, other classmates etc.).
DISCLAIMER: That being said, I don’t necessarily think Mitsumi’s case (being more outspoken and moral-compass driven when it comes to seeing wrongdoings in a social setting) are the traits of only those who had a plentiful upbringing. However, I see the direction the story leads us, and how Mitsumi’s upbringing contributes to her lack of fear or lack of seeking validation within group settings, as she was always given plenty of love, encouragement, and support to be herself — which would honestly boost anyone’s confidence.
Now, that leaves us to wonder how she came to the conclusion that Shima’a homelife was lacking the love and care which Misumi’s have, and the beginning of the chapter clues us in.
Hints of depression:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We can basically assume, without that many details, that her parents or family are likely neglectful. Purposefully? I am not quite sure — she could’ve grown up as another kid in Japan to working parents that rarely come home and have to make ends meet. Either white collar workers who often give up all their free time to the office or minimum wage ones who have to make ends meet. We’re not sure, and the author doesn’t make it matter. What matters is the effect: That they aren’t present in her life. At all.
So, she seeks the validation out at school a different way. Essentially charming over less-perceptive guys for temporary attention. As she seeks validation, molds somewhat of an image towards that goal (kind of like Mika Egashira does), for the purpose of the attention she’s always desired but never had. If her parents aren’t there, at least the over-excited gushing of some guys can sort of satiate any depression.
Not all of the means are likable — the way we might’ve felt when Mika’s methods were introduced. But we aren’t supposed to hate her. Rather, we’re made to feel very sorry for her, empathetic, and have a nuanced view of her motives. “We’re probably the same,” New Girl thinks to herself when observing Shima. And although Shima isn’t validation-oriented as Mika or New Girl is (he’s conflict-avoidant and passive, per say), he’s that way for the same reason: A neglectful parent, who made him feel unloved.
I find that she’s interesting however, in the ways she was written to either foil or emphasize a lot of the main casts’ tendencies:
Shima: Explained above.
Mitsumi: Obviously by degree of support in upbringing.
But a thought I’ve been having is how she would compare to the nuances in Mika’s and Yuzuki’s lives too:
Mika Egashira: She has a sort of Machiavellian approach in social situations (“the ends justifies the means if it adds to my goal” type of thing). However, Mika’s social chameleon abilities and focus on image stem from her insecurities and lack of confidence, even if it manifests in seeking attention. Although that’s part of it, it isn’t the main goal. Whereas, New Girl is more perceptive, seeming more confident in her words and judgement. She can also blend in quickly to an appearance in interactions. But she isn’t solely validation-driven when it comes to seeking other’s attention; it’s more like attention for the sake of attention itself she likely desires from her family situation and neglect deep down. Mika’s problem is more self-directed and internal, while New Girl’s is more external (family situation, upbringing) and has less to do with self-loathing.
Yuzuki Murashige: As almost a shadow to New Girl. Yuzuki was born into an almost-perfect situation, one many people would envy. With a close-knit loving family, affluence, beauty that naturally brings attention. But because of that, most people fail to empathize with any hurt or lonely feelings she may have. And the attention almost crushes her under it — the type both Mika and New Girl seems to desire from their classmates. Although we don’t know New Girl’s family’s economical situation, we know they aren’t close-knit in any form. What has always suffocated Yuzuki has always been a desire, a compensation, for New Girl.
I think these sort of comparisons are why I like the story so far. The nuance in understanding human behavior and bringing so many characters with different mindsets and problems, and with so much care taken, contribute to my desire to see some form of mutual understanding or resolve.

Savon Sanomat was among the papers carrying an STT news agency report that one in two Finnish mortgage borrowers has reduced spending on daily expenses or switched to buying more affordable products due to rising prices and interest rates.
The figure is from a survey released by Danske Bank which also showed that about half have had to reduce expenditure on non-essential consumption, such as clothing purchases and restaurant meals.
"Some households have been disproportionately affected by the rise in prices and interest rates. In the big picture, however, Finnish mortgage borrowers are doing well. Although reducing everyday expenses is currently a common topic of conversation, according to the study, it affects only every second Finnish mortgage debtor," Sari Takala, Danske Bank's head of personal loan services is quoted as saying in a release.
Conducted by YouGov Finland, the survey asked respondents how they had adjusted their spending.
A quarter said that they have not had to make any changes in their finances due to rising interest rates or prices. Ten percent said that they have had to postpone the payment of some other bills. Eight percent answered that they had to rely on financial help from family members. Six percent had had to take out a new loan.
"It's good to remember that everyone has their own, personal level of inflation. If there is no room for manoeuvre in your own finances, you should find out from your bank whether, for example, an extension of the loan period or a repayment holiday would help the situation," Takala said.
Hypermarkets to the rescue?
Helsingin Sanomat looks at the possibility of hypermarkets revitalising the capital's city centre.
It notes that the idea has proven to be successful in Tampere where a Prisma hypermarket is doing well after replacing a downtown department store.
Mika Sivula, the southern Finland regional manager for Kesko, a company with about 1,800 stores in Finland and abroad, told the paper that he believes that there would be sufficient demand for a selection of hypermarkets in the centre of Helsinki.
"But the problem is that it is very challenging to find large enough business premises in the densely built-up centre," he pointed out.
One of Kesko's K-citymarkets would require nearly 10,000 square metres of retail space, preferably all under one roof. In addition, transportation connections, and access by private car, would be a key factor. In this context, HS notes the issue of frequent street works in the city centre.
City officials do not object to the idea. Helsinki's director for urban environment, Ville Lehmuskoski, told the paper, "If there's a demand for it and it's a service that's wanted, the city will try to make it easier."

Finland's high Covid death rate
Ilta-Sanomat reports that WHO figures show Finland to have registered the largest number of Covid deaths per one million inhabitants in Europe over the past 12 months.
Lasse Lehtonen, director of diagnostics at the Helsinki Universitry Hospital HUS, pointed out that the WHO collects statistical data from every country in the same way, with all persons who tested positive for coronavirus infections who have died within 30 days of infection being counted as Covid deaths.
Lehtonen considers WHO's statistical method "rough and simple", but the best available to make global comparisons.
"It is not the truth, above all it describes variations among the countries," Lehtonen said. "It does not measure the absolute number of coronavirus deaths, but how different countries rank in relation to each other."
The method used by Finland's Institute of Health and Welfare (THL) is based on a screening of death certificates which specify the coronavirus as the actual cause of death, or when it is recorded as a contributing factor.
Over the past year, more than 3,000 deaths from coronavirus infections have been recorded in Finland, which put the country at the top of the per capita list in Europe.
The overall total number of deaths attributed to coronavirus in Finland exceeded 10,000 at the beginning of July 2023. The total number in Finland is now clearly higher than in Norway and Denmark, which are roughly the same size in terms of population, but also clearly more densely populated.
Still cold, still wet
Iltalehti told readers that the latest monthly weather forecast calls for colder than usual weather for the first two full weeks of November.
Temperatures are expected to be about 1 to 3 degrees Celsius cooler than usual in large parts of the country. In southern Finland, temperatures will be more or less normal for the time of year.
Next week, starting 6 November, more rain than usual is likely to be seen in the south and in areas in the east.
"Unusually rainy weather can be expected in the southern and eastern parts of the country, while in the north precipitation should be less than average," the paper quotes Foreca meteorologist Joonas Koskela as saying.
The week starting 13 November, almost the entire country will see more precipitation than usual. The weather during the week starting 20 November is expected to bring average seasonal temperatures and precipitation.
There are signs that the final week of the month will again be warmer than average.
