I still can’t believe that both of these songs are from the same album!

“You Stand By Me” was written following the aftermath of Pete’s 2003 incident. Throughout the entire ordeal, Roger was Pete’s most stalwart defender and took great measures to proclaim his partner’s innocence.

The first excerpt is from Roger’s memoir and the second is from a 2006 entry in Pete’s old online diary [x].

The first half of Endless Wire is like any standard album — a collection of standalone songs. The second half is a mini rock opera called “Wire and Glass.” “Tea & Theatre” is the song that concludes the rock opera.

The plot of the rock opera revolves around a fictional aging rockstar named Ray High, who is a recurring character in Pete’s 1993 solo album, Psychoderelict, and his 2005 online novel, The Boy Who Heard Music. Interestingly, Ray High is sort of an amalgamation of both Pete and Roger, as mentioned in Pete’s memoir.

“Tea & Theatre” is sung from the perspective of two other characters from the rock opera who have now grown old and are reflecting on the events that unfolded. However, the more popular interpretation of the song is that it is about Pete and Roger themselves. They have been performing this song in their encore since 2006, and it is the only song from this album that they still perform to this day. It is always very special to watch because it is just the two of them on stage.
