sorry if these are a little short skinny jasper has very little screen time so im going of of the steven universe wiki for information heck i couldnt even find a gif to use for her

. Skinny would be a gentle yandere similer to amethyst she has a has an easygoing personality.

.kiddneapping would not be her style with her easy going attitude along with her distain for authority coming from holly blue agate she would most likley attempt to court her darling and attempt to isolate them off from everyone else. any confrentation to her about this would just be deflected with a witty joke.

.She wouldnt really punish her darling in a traditonal sense. She would do things like stop talking to them, ignoring them and glaring at them untill their darling relents. Although its all completly justified in her mind.

on the topic of flawed characters, there's one that will always shock me at how much hate he got. i'm talking about lars from st/even universe. like yeah, he was a jerk and all, but even from the beginning we saw there was more to him. lars is incredibly insecure and socially anxious and it's implied that he's depressed as well (none of these things excuse his behavior!). and lars was often punished throughout the show, by steven, ronaldo, and even sadie. and yet lars was always seen in the wrong.

lars was probably the MOST hated character in the entirety of su. hell, ppl hated him more than they hated the diamonds or gems like jasper. ppl would legitimately send DEATH THREATS to lars/larsadie fans. i remember that very clearly. i wasn't a big lars fan back then but i already liked him. lars was like the show's equivalent of s/quidward, who's also my fave in s/pongebob.

i related a lot to lars, too. i was a lot like him as a teen. i still am a bit like him - sarcastic, grumpy, insecure yet still very passionate about my interests - but yeah, if you related to lars, you were seen as a horrible person. the fandom only started liking him when lars DIED and became a cool space captain. but as soon as lars relapsed (or when he thought sadie was trying to get back at him for hanging out with the cool kids), ppl were ready to hate on him again.

honestly, even now that lars is liked, i still get ppl leaving their opinions on my lars art ("ugh i HATED lars when i first watched the show but he's cool now"), and i hate that very much. i hate that i'm not allowed to like lars without ppl still hammering in my head how much they hated or still dislike him. i wouldn't comment that on your art of your fave, i would just make my own damn post or just leave my opinion to myself. that's like saying "i hate this ship but cool art".

another important factor to note is that lars is not white. even in like 2015, one of the crew members confirmed that. and later we find out lars is filipino (and it IS confirmed onscreen when lars bakes an ube cake). he is in fact a mentally ill character of color. and that's exactly what makes ppl hate him, besides the fact lars isn't conventionally attractive. bc i know fans would drool over him if that were the case (and especially if he were white). you COULD say lars is the equivalent of spop kyle, both pathetic and skinny boys, except lars is not white, and he's snarky and short-tempered, but it is implied he was bullied or mistreated at some point in his childhood, too.

and of course, there are other actual flawed characters of color who get unfair hate, like katara, korra (though i haven't seen lok), diane from bojack, and glimmer. which angers me when ppl stan catra and they accuse you of being racist or ableist if you criticize her.

you guys. do not. give a fuck. about ACTUAL characters of color. you will just hate them too! fuck off with that performative bullshit.

A rant about SU and gem formation

In Steven Universe, the Homeworld can be biased against gems with oddities. They want all gems to be perfect cookie-cut soldiers to fit into their society.

However, I want to know how this affects Lapis Lazuli gems. See from my research (literally one google search) lapis lazuli can come with patches of yellow (pyrite) and white (calcite). These gems with small patches of white and/or yellow are considered some of the best quality (once again, according to google). But would Homeworld see it as the best quality or Off Color? We know they don't like fusion, and this sounds almost like fusion. Though maybe it could be considered more of a cross-contamination?

Does Homeworld make lapis lazuli without these patches maybe? Perhaps they found a way in the Kindergarten phase of a gem to remove the possibility of them gaining the patches??

I know that in SU Future, Lapis changed her form to incorporate some yellow as if to show that aspect of the natural formation of the gem, but we could chalk that up to her being a Pre-war gem. Maybe they didn't have the tech to make pure lapis lazuli back then? Still, no other Lapis Lazuli has this accent color (not counting any with a Yellow Diamond insignia). I am simply curious about others' thoughts on this.

Under the cut: A Jasper and Amethyst Rant

Another (slightly unrelated) rant about Jasper and Amethyst.

Jasper and Amethyst were made on Earth, and while Peridot proved Amethyst's Kindergarten to be fully planned and thought out, Jasper's was not.

See, I believe that with the rush job on her Kindergarten, Jasper was made Wrong. Similar to the Lapis Lazuli, jasper is a gem made from an assortment of other minerals that give it its striped-patterned look. A striped look that our Jasper shares, but most Homeworld Gems don't have (Even Holly Blue, who is an Agate and therefore should have some form of striping or rings). This makes me believe that striping or patterns of a gem's skin could be seen as an Off Color trait. If it is considered an Off Color trait, the Diamonds may have kept her around due to her strength and loyalty/service??

Additionally, I believe that Jasper wasn't lucky to come out as big as she did. I believe her form and Amethyst's are the results of "Survival of the Fittest" on opposite sides of the spectrum.

With Amethyst, she was at the bottom of her Kindergarten where there possibly weren't very many minerals to soak up for her formation, and any that were available went to those forming above her. This meant that only once the other Gems were formed and no longer soaking everything up could Amethyst get what she needed, but the time spent without the resources had already done its damage.

But with Jasper, she was placed dead center with practically no competition for resources so she could soak up everything for herself (a plausible reasoning for how Skinny formed the way she did, whose hole was right next to hers), making it to where she had an overabundance of all the resources that made quartz soldiers so strong.

I'm not really sure if this is classed as AU worldbuilding or a headcannon, but have this little SU thing:

Defective: A gem that is physically incapable of doing the task that they were created for. Typically were shattered or harvested before era 3. E.g. Padparadscha, any gems that participated in cross-gem fusion.

Off color: A gem that is still capable of doing the task that they were created for, but may struggle to do said task/may have to do it differently. Keeping these gems around was a case-by-case basis. E.g. Skinny Jasper or Carnelian.

God, that’s so weirdly specific, and also a fandom I have not thought of in years

Let’s see what I remember

Liana would be an Aquamarine, cause they’re small, manipulative little bastards, and has wings. Plus, their fashion senses are kinda similar. Another alternative with be a Zircon, but I think Aquamarine fits better. Her gem would probably be on the back of her hand.

Wes would be an Agate. First instinct was Topaz since, big yellow guy, but it felt too obvious. I just like the idea of poor Wes being expected to be in charge of an entire facility like Holly Blue, and having about five breakdowns per minute. Plus there’s an actual agate called the moss agate, which is fitting with his cloak. His gem would be located on his bicep.

Gertrude would be a Rose Quartz. Most quartz soldiers are shown to be big, intimidating, and powerful, but are mostly huge friendly dorks with a strong sense of community. The ones at the zoo were more like therapists than actual warriors, which checks out great with our doggy gal. An Emerald would probably work as well, if you wanna play more into the whole princess thing she kinda has going for her, seeing as they are commanders. Her gem would probably be on her back.

I’m inclined towards a Ruby with Johnny, and that’s like 60% because our Ruby became a cowboy for one episode. But also little red guy! Fire powers! Usually very dumb, naive, and fighting inclined! That’s our boy right there! Johnny would probably have his gem on his forehead.

Jassy is a Jasper, but one that came out wrong. I’m mainly thinking Skinny here, cause like while Jassy is strong she is also a bit more on the slim side compared to a regular Jasper, but otherwise she fits. Just like what I said during Gertrude’s bit, while Quartz soldiers are strong they’re also a bit goofy. She would have her gem over her left eye.

Jekiv is difficult purely because his whole thing is necromancy and the undead, but like that shit ain’t really a thing on Homeworld (Unless I missed a very interesting sounding comic). So instead I’m thinking of Jekiv as either a Pearl (Rebellious Pearl, snarky as hell) or a Peridot (Small grumpy green little goblin) though, maybe he’d be like one of those, fusion experiment things. Idk, I’m at a loss here. His gem would be on his belly button anyway.

Novo is a Spinel, to no one’s surprise. I mean the energy, the old timey rubber animation, the fucking running mascara. All those Blue Diamond!Spinel designs work very well with him, though he’d probably wear mostly human clothes. A Larimar or a Sapphire could also work, with the ice powers I mean, but other than that there’s not a lot of correlation. His gem would be on the back of his head.

An alternative to all of this would be that the kids are the fusions of the parents, which would mean that I would have to figure out what they would be, which I’m not doing. I think @chrisrin has done some Boatem fanart of that? Idk
