I've been pretty busy with art fight and life in general lately so I haven't been drawing Warriors but I do have a collection of doodles I never did anything with, so here they are!
#i'm posting these mostly for me tbh. bc this blog is kind of an art archive for me#the drawing of berryheart and sunbeam is a reference to a particular scene. i think at the end of shadow?#when berryheart comforts sunbeam briefly after nightheart leaves#also that drawing of leafpool and hollypaw is so old. i finished it recently but i've had the sketch sitting around for a couple of years#i think the sketch was originally going to be yellowfang and cinderpelt actually. bc i was reading the first arc at the time#idk why it changed. i should draw those two sometime though. i don't really have any proper drawings of yellowfang#unless you count that one old comic. which honestly looks good for my skill level at the time and the fact that i drew it on the 3ds but#well anyway. what's this post about?#my art#ouughh tagging everyone for sorting purposes#berryheart#sunbeam#harelight#frostdawn#bristlefrost#rootspring#shadowsight#leafpool#hollyleaf#sparkpelt#nightheart

Gortash, who escapes the Hells after years of torture, and hires Karlach (a red tiefling) as his bodyguard because better the devil you know.
Karlach, late teens, orphaned and trying to find her place in the city, imprinting on Gortash (a thug from the Lower City, making his way up on the world) like a baby duckling, ignoring the parade of red flags.
Them working together well and getting along, despite opposite personalities and morals, because Gortash (who grew up unloved by his parents and abused by devils) enjoys being the object of Karlach's earnest, honest flattery and loyalty too much, and Karlach (poor street urchin with little to no formal education) sees Gortash scheme with politicians and criminals, design clockwork machines, and climb the social ladder with ease, and thinks the sun shines out of his ass.
If Gortash keeps the worst of his dealings hidden from Karlach, well, that's just good business sense. She's still young and green, she'll toughen up as she grows older and the reality of the world grinds her optimisim to dust. And if Karlach turns a blind eye to her boss' cruel streak, to the boxes of smuggled weapons coming in and out of the warehouses, and the dead bodies floating down the Chiontar, it's because they probably did something to deserve it, after all Gortash has been nothing but good to her.
Maybe Gortash starts to wonder if a little bit of goodwill could be leveraged to achieve more power. After all, a couple of kind words and small favours have worked wonders to ensure Karlach's loyalty. Maybe he can allow himself a kindness or two, ease the leash, raise the boot, just a smidge. Only for the harshness of reality to slap him in the face once again, the deal falls through, his enemies gain ground, he loses money and men, his plan pushed back, because he, for one instant, believed Karlach's rainbow coloured worldview.
So he tightens his grip on power even more, doubles down on his cruelty, and decides: Karlach must go. And when Zariel offers her deal, a soul for an ongoing supply of infernal steel, he sells her off without hesitation.
#enver gortash#karlach#baldur’s gate 3#these two had such bad reads on each other it's both sad and hilarious#karlach thinking gortash was like a cool entrepreneur who just sold weed on the side#while the man was balls deep in every possible smuggling ring and crime imaginable in the city#and gortash thinking karlach just needed some time in hell to toughen up#when she was a literal sunbeam of optimism full of love and caring#i don't ship them but man i would love to find more about their days together#how did that even work???

Thunder Chapter 6: Trial by Kittens
As usual, the trials for acceptance into another Clan are absolutely stealing the show. These are absolutely the most enjoyable parts of ASC so far.
I really hope that the characterization being given to Spotfur's three kits remains, they're all fantastic and I adore them. I haven't seen anyone compile these new personalities, or really point out the dynamics at play in this little scene though! So I'll do just that!
Misc Info
Apparently, Spotfur cusses in front of her kids lmao. This is the singular most important thing about this book, actually. Stemkit says "SHIT" and Sunbeam is like "WATCH YOUR PROFAMITY" and he protests with "MOM curses all the time"
They had never been outside of camp before, Spot's anxious about this! It's nice seeing her being a protective mom.
UNRELATED SIDE NOTE: I miss how in TPB kits seemed to have "their first prey" as a major developmental milestone, but those times are loooong gone. This situation is scratching an itch for me, though!
Sunbeam's first prey was frog; frogs apparently taste canonically like blackbird. (another side note, i should make a taste guide as a clan culture expansion and check if there's any validity to that... i would have guessed it would taste more like duck.)
She takes a good amount of time just chatting with them, and the dialogue here is actually fantastic. It feels just like being in the middle of a conversation with my nespring, it's great. The writer really nailed the cadence of little kids.
Sunbeam also realizes that she needs to keep all three kids engaged, and so creates a particularly convoluted setup so they're all doing something. Clever!
Graykit Gray-and-white tom
IS REALLY interested in hunting.
He chased after a mouse the same size as him when he was half a month old, though obviously he couldn't catch it.
Dreams of one day catching one of every type of prey around the lake. That's such a fun goal actually?? Completionist Graykit wants to 100% the hunting speedrun challenge. That's fantastic.
Stemkit Solid orange tom
Seems to be the most thoughtful of the kits.
Asks the majority of the questions, responses tend to be very "philosophical" towards things. Will say outright that he does not know something if he doesn't know the answer.
A wise child.
Cusses because he missed a vole lmao. VERY cute. I hope this boy grows up to have a mouth like a sailor. I love vulgar philosophers.
Bristlekit White-and-orange molly
Most impatient, and seems to have a little bit of a mean streak.
Scoffs when Graykit brings up his mouse story, saying that "nearly doesn't count." A bit of a perfectionist!
Also interjects the most when her brothers are rambling.
But is able to back this all up! She is the most focused, and is the first one to scent the vole den.
She also catches two voles when her brothers only catch one each.

i think i was harsh on sunbeam she's a really interesting character if you cut out any interaction she has with nightheart- and I mean that sincerely. her relationship with her mother, her friendship and friendship breakdown from lightleap, her constant setting aside her own desires and wants to make the cats around her happy. her seemingly not actually having many friends within shadowclan, her switching clans on a whim
#txt#asc spoilers#its been a while since i read asc but eversince shes interacted with nightheart she never seems to bring up her own issues#unless nightheart asks about it first.#if asc was just the POV of sunbeam frostpaw and any other new TC cat (if they need a TC POV) itd be fine

All done! I tried not to use anybody more than once but some repeats were just unavoidable. If I reread the entire series again right now, I'm sure some of these would change, but here's who I thought of.
My reasons and a blank template under the cut.
Berryheart & Sunbeam: I was so stressed reading about them lol. But I appreciated how complex their relationship was, especially on Sunbeam's side. Berryheart loved her kids, and she hurt her kids quite badly because she thought she was doing the right thing. And that was a tough thing for Sunbeam to cope with. It's not a positive relationship but it is compelling, and I enjoyed that!
The Three: This is more for Lionblaze and Jayfeather (mainly since we've had more time with the two of them) but it would be wrong to leave Hollyleaf out! Most siblings in this series have some sort of strife between them, and these three have had their moments too, but they cared deeply about each other.
Rootspring & Shadowsight: I liked their friendship in TBC. Particularly I liked how insecure they both were, but how they admired each other for the very traits they were insecure about. It was sweet. Perhaps they should kiss.
Tree & Rootspring: This is largely just because Tree is the most supportive dad ever. I like that he stuck by Rootspring and helped him get Bramblestar's message out while still keeping his secret -- even though it was really inconvenient, his son's feelings mattered to him. I like that as soon as trouble came, he was ready to pack up and get his family out of the Clans, but he listened to their wishes and stayed and supported them.
Nightheart & Frostdawn: Their friendship was very sweet in Thunder. I love how Nightheart supported Frostpaw when she was at her lowest point, and how Frostpaw learned to rely on him, which helped her start trusting others again.
Brightheart & Cloudtail: A classic old pairing. I guess I'm a sucker for stories of one character being terribly wounded and at the worst point in their life and then another character supporting them through it and them bonding. Whether that's platonic (like Nightheart & Frostdawn) or romantic like Brightheart & Cloudtail, I'm a fan.
Tawnypelt & Birchfeather: I probably don't need to explain this one since everybody's talking about it. But Tawnypelt's support of Birchfeather when his own parents refuse to acknowledge him is sweet.
Fireheart & Cinderpaw: It's been a while since I last read the first arc, but I remember enjoying these two as both mentor and apprentice and as friends. Nothing too deep here, they were just fun to read about.
Sunbeam & Lightleap: It's a shame their friendship broke down so early into ASC. I enjoy a ship between someone who's calm and sensible and someone who would commit arson on a dare. They could balance each other out, or they could stress each other out. Either way would be interesting to read about!
Please talk to me about your favorite relationships of various types as well! I always enjoy hearing what kinds of characters, tropes, etc appeal to other people.
Here's the blank template!
#lmao at the two cats that got reused#who else up being gay and having complicated relationships with your parents#i almost swapped shadowroot out for barleyraven so i wouldnt have a repeat and i do love barleyraven#ravenpaw's farewell gets me choked up every time#but i missed shadowroot and wanted to draw them so here we are lol#i need to reread tbc. it might be my favorite arc?? might add them to my collection#i think the covers are mmmmm not good which makes them less fun to collect but i do want to read them a lot so i kinda want to own them#my art#augh gosh i didnt think about having to tag everyone this is madness#berryheart#sunbeam#lionblaze#jayfeather#hollyleaf#rootspring#shadowsight#tree#nightheart#frostdawn#brightheart#cloudtail#tawnypelt#birchfeather#firestar#cinderpelt#lightleap#i missed drawing some of these cats...

reading Wind rn (i got it for christmas) and i stg every other sentence so far is a character saying something and then the pov character saying "ah yes, you act this way because of a scene that happened in arc 3 book 2, a tale which all clan cats know intimately, even if they're never spoken to you before, like me"
#warrior cats#low pitched finite woofing#the most egregious example in this arc was when nightheart knew about windclan having tunnelers like Bro why do you know that. thats secret#some i can buy like the nightpelt stuff. i can imagine kits being told that#but why does sunbeam know or remember anything about breezepelt looking for his mom. was she even born then#i think the way it's written is what bothers me about it. it's written less like the characters recollecting stories/how they connect to#those stories. but more like they don't expect you to have read any other wc book before this one so they want to get you up to speed#in 2-3 sentences#sobs. i hate the editors writing style

To go back to Sunbeam blorboposting a bit, there is something to be said about her story happening right at the same time as the RiverClan drama and she's not doing jack shit about it.
There are all these political machinations at play, cats being murdered, a whole clan destabilized and the others teetering on the edge of war and meanwhile Sunny-b over here is having issues with her best friends and her mom and her extended family, that do touch upon the RiverClan drama a bit, but she's not directly involved in it. Worse she gets is her mom, who radicalized HARD, being an accomplice to Splash.
Like, who is she to deal with the frama herself? She is just a ShadowClan warrior. She can't make RiverClan fix itself nor can she just tell Tigerstar what to do.
I unno, something about her having relatively normal Interpersonal drama while the entire world is burning just speaks to me
#morningtalks#And there is specifically the situation she's in with Light and Blaze that fascinates me#And her whole family radicalizing aside from her and her brother who's literally doing the opposite#(and I get yet another point for the crossclan relationships as Queer relationships W)#(I should really just make a post for that huh)#Between Mothpool TallJake RavenBarley LeafCrow and a few others I could try to build up an argument. Just leave me some time#And now with the crossclan couples being Allowed (but only in specific ways) it's also pretty interesting. Bon bref. Sunbeam#I've posted about that too but her rebuilding in ThunderClan is something that means a lot to me too#*slaps the cat* this warrior cats protagonist can fit so much projecting#One day I'll properly read ASC and then shit will never be the same#I also will read TBC one day and then Spotfur will be mine#Probably also just the entire cast of TBC but Spotfur and Bris specifically#I can make them interesting. I've had ideas for Spotfur's rebellion ever since I read it and it disappointed everyone
