i mean, look. niall literally calls harry louis’ baby in the fic. need i say more?? louis knows harry is something special & supports harry however he can, harry’s immediately enamored with him, niall and zayn are top tier supporting characters who welcome him into their group so quickly & happily. wonderful dynamics all around.

my cousin married her childhood crush (who’s also her best friend’s brother), so i’m a sucker for this trope. nicole consistently - as you’ll see in their other fics on this list - perfectly writes louis as immediately interested but it never feels too fast paced or unrealistic. harry is enamored by louis but simply does not know what to do with himself in the face of louis. it always just makes sense & is so lovely. we got some phone sex w louis’ dirty talk in here too, what a treat.

He’s complaining about it on the phone to Liam when Harry, his unknown but hot neighbor, overhears him in the lift and offers to help. It doesn't take long for Louis to realize he wishes things weren't quite so fake, but he's afraid it'll take a Christmas miracle to make anything happen.

And, oh, God. Did Louis’ mother accidentally send him to live in a nudist colony?

In which Harry runs an organic store, not a nudist colony, and Louis doesn't know whether to be relieved or disappointed.

The voice startles Louis out of his daze, and he turns toward the voice to let him know he figured it out. When he catches sight of the owner of the voice, though, his response dies in his throat. Whatever he had imagined the conductor of a children’s train that rides around the shopping centre in Leeds would look like, this is certainly not it.

Leaning through the window, arms folded across the sill, is a green-eyed angel with cherry red lips stretched wide in a smile and dimples flirting in his cheeks. A black conductor’s hat is the only confirmation that this is not some gorgeous stranger who’s come to flirt with Louis through the window of a children’s train, but is just a man doing his job.

Hi Gina! I love the positivity that’s being brought into the fandom by everyone recommending their rereads!! I wanted to share a couple of mine that I adore. Some are newer and might not be known too well. I know Mpreg isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but We Were Made To Love by supernope is one of my favorite fics of all time. Their writing is always so good, but Harry working as a kiddie train driver and Louis constantly finding excuses to bring his little siblings to ride just so he can see him is the fic my heart didn’t know it needed. Today I randomly remembered about Ren Loadedgunn, who back in 2014 used to be THE smut writer that everyone looked up to. Ren almost single-handedly introduced daddy kink in this fandom, and she is responsible for the mainstream character interpretation of Harry and Louis, which mainly comes from her fic.

Ren also was serving in the IOF back in 2014.

I thought this was kinda common knowledge, but apparently it wasn't, not even amongst the people who were there back then. She's never really made a secret about it. She would say she was "israeli", and then that she was in the military. Ren dated two other writers in 2014/15.

The first one was Supernope. Supernope dedicated the following fic to Ren:

(Ren did identify herself with Louis a lot, which is imho part of why she wrote him like this. Ironic, with the role that Louis has in this fic as an IOF soldier.)

Ren broke it off with Supernope sometimes after this fic, started dating Istajmaal.

Istajmaal used to be a self described anti israeli, who turned into a (liberal) zionist thanks to Ren. I won't post screenshots or quotes because of not doxxing reasons, but I'm paraphrasing. Liberal zionists are the ones who, instead of telling you "arabs are barbars and they need to be exterminated," will tell you "unfortunately arabs are barbars :(((((( we can't avoid exterminating them :(((((((((."

There's not really a conclusion to this post, although there's much more I could say about these three people (two and a half), but just, yeah.

Never content to stay in one place for long, a few months down south researching for his novel seemed like an idyllic, slow-paced summer to Louis. He wasn’t ready for the blistering heat, the backbreaking work of watermelon picking, or how stifling the attitudes in rural Georgia would feel. And he definitely hadn’t anticipated falling in love with the farmer’s son.

The summer of 1946 would turn out to be everything worth writing about.

our little corner of the world by brownheadedstranger (E, 30K) This fic reads like original fiction in the best sort of way. The whole fic makes you feel like you’re stuck in the hot, dusty little town along with the boys. It’s beautifully written – slow and wistful – and I really need to re-read it now that I think of it! Line cook Harry / diner worker Louis.

The Road Less Travelled by freetheankles / @anymerrylilthought​ (E, 98K) Also known as “the lumberjack fic”, this fic is an instant classic. The author makes widowed Louis’ pain and depression so real and so moving. The characters are three-dimensional and complex and the well written sexual tension is finally relieved with super hot smut. Link is to a download. Lumberjack Louis

The slow, dreamy tone of their writing fit the setting and the way Harry and Louis fell into each other so, so well. I love how descriptive their writing is without being flowery or pointless. O’ Christmas Tree by @justalittlelouislove (M, 15K) I love this author’s writing and this one is just 100% wonderful fluff that still managed to make me cry! It’s sweet and charming and one of the very few kid fics I actually enjoyed. Christmas tree farmer Harry.

Lambing Season by @helloamhere (E, 26K) This is beautiful little emotional fic and it’s one of my favorites. If you’ve ever wanted to leave your shitty work environment, escape to an idyllic countryside, and find love along the way, read this one. Farmer Louis.

Coup de Foudre by angelwarm (M, 15K) The characters (particularly Louis) are pretty OOC, but god this fic is gorgeous. After I read it I just sat there not knowing what to do with myself. It’s sad and hopeful and just gorgeously written. Diner Worker Harry
