Divine steps came to a halt and both hands raised making the focus of all eyes a little box resting on top of both palms. Inside the package was a little butterfly made out of clay and colored at the best of her abilities—the overall shape was clearly stylized but one could tell what it was just from a single look.

Alongside the hand-made gift was a little note that read as this: "Happy birthday Panette, i hope today is a beautiful day for you. I know that you enjoy bugs a lot so i thought of making you a little figure of a butterfly, it doesn't exactly look like the real thing but i tried coloring it with the colors you usually wear to make it unique to you. Thank you for being a wonderful friend - Alear."

"Happy birthday Panette!" The dragon chirped and carefully she placed the gift on solmic hands. "I wanted to give you this gift myself since i'm unsure if you have plans made for today, i hope you like it! Oh and be careful, it's very frail."

Birthdays were never special with gifts, cake, nor celebrations. Growing up, they were special enough for her to be one year older, one more year of courage to get up and escape. If she received anything for herself it was a lecture about what she should be. Gifts from her father came in the form of green and brown glittering heaps of trash. They were crystals to him until he had no more use for them and they joined the rest, discarded and forgotten. Perhaps she and her brother made a game of it to see who could collect the most once if only to let some light into her day.

So it is strange to be approached at all on this absolutely mundane day deemed as her day of birth. And a visit from Alear of all people… dragons… ( though, she didn’t know many dragons ), beings. Bearing a gift and a chipper attitude, Panette accepts it cautiously. As if it really were for her. She opens it as she listens, discovering the clay butterfly painted that was nothing ordinary or natural for this insect, but… to match its owner. Something she could claim as hers and hers only, made just for her. Something tugs at her chest then, a heat traveling up through her until it pops and bursts between cracks revealing a smile that reaches her eyes.

“Oh, Divine One, this is…” Words fail her for moments at a time to describe this particular item, no gift. Marvelous, magnificent, neither could express her proper gratitude and appreciation. Shouldn’t she be the one gifting the deity anyhow? It almost felt backwards despite the circumstances. 

“So considerate,” are the ones she settles on. She looks up at the dragon, lips tilting. “Thank you, truly. I will do my due diligence to handle it with great, great, and gentle care.” She emphasizes the last as things in her hands tend to shatter.

“Oh, and… Divine One? If it is not too much of me to ask, when is your birthday?”

“It’s fine.” Her expression remained unchanged, almost serene. Although her memories were distant and broken up, it didn’t bring her pain in any way- she simply came to terms with it. While she wished that she could remember her original tribe or her parents, her past is gone but now she has been reborn. She can build a new life for herself, and for that she prefers to allow herself to move on and walk towards the future without looking back. “Nabata is all I know. Nabata has Fae, so Nabata is my nest.” It had Fae, it had all the other dragons and people who had been ostracized from the world and needed refuge in the desert.

She paused for a moment, then looked at the fellow heterochromatic dragon. “You are Divine Alear, then.” She would apply the same logic for Alear. Even though her aura and smell were unlike the Divine Dragon characteristics Idunn knew…she wasn’t interested in prying. If this is who Alear is now, this is who Alear would be. “My classmate.” Her words were quiet, more as if she were reaffirming it to herself.

The dragon hummed. Exercise was like training…but wasn’t training dedicated for war and battles? The people in this room seemed so joyful that she couldn’t understand why they were doing this. That- until she figured something out on her own. “...like when a young has to learn how to fly.” They need to practice with their wings. Her childhood was lost to time, but Idunn knew the behavior of baby dragons. Jumping off taller and taller ledges, trying to flap their wings to be able to fly. It demanded practice and insistence, so perhaps this is what those people were doing. “So…they train…to dance.” She…did know that humans loved to dance- some dragons did, too. 

At the compliment to her hair, Idunn momentarily wasn’t sure how to respond- until she remembered Fae’s words. “Thanks.” But before she could process what else to say, Alear had brought the both of them to a quieter spot with fewer people around them. Ah- there were many kicking motions in that weird dance. It would be best if they didn’t kick anyone. “...I like your hair too.” Was what she meant to say earlier. Fae told her it was always nice to give back a given compliment, and Alear’s hair was nice regardless. It was very colorful and unique. 

Figuring that it would be maybe best to remove a layer of clothing, Idunn chose to remove her uniform jacket- staying with the white shirt instead. She didn’t really minded wearing more or less clothing articles- she was simply used to hiding behind cloaks as she was used to living like a shadow.

“Tie?” Tie…her hair? “Like that?” She pointed to Alear’s own hair. The once long, silky colorful crest was now in a ponytail. Idunn had never really done anything to her hair, at best just decorating it with ringlets and other small jewelry for no reason in particular. “Fine.” She wasn’t quite sure what to expect, so the dragon just stared at Alear with slight curiosity- at best maybe a little bit lost.

Idunn’s words, that she used to be a Divine Dragon caught her off guard. It wasn’t the title used, she had met an Emblem that shared it with her, but the fact it was a thing of the past. “I understand, my history as a dragon is complicated too.” A dragon once born fell but chose to live as who she wished to be, a Divine Dragon clad in white with a gleaming sword by her side, a kind dragon—A dragon that could finally show all her feelings without being afraid of being disposed of. “Where you are from doesn’t matter if were you lived before coming here is what you consider home, in my eyes you’re Idunn of Arcadia. Still, if you ever remember, you can choose which is home to you now.”

But she chose not to push more on the topic, instead hearing her talk about exercising. Perhaps it was her curious spirit, but Alear thought Idunn felt the same curiosity about the world. “Exercising can be like training, you can run to train for example.” When the dragon says ‘a cheer’ her mismatched eyes looked at the crowd happily singing along to the music. “A cheer… yes it sounds like one, doesn’t it?” A cheer to the fun they were likely having all together, connections no matter if born between humans or dragons were a beautiful thing. To connect as to open oneself to many feelings no matter how warm or cold they were.

When the hood lowered she smiled, her hair was of a beautiful lilac, a nice contrast to her now shinning pair of mismatched eyes so reminiscing of nature itself. “I like your hair, i think it would look great in a braid, or a ponytail maybe?” But it was just a passing comment as the Divine Dragon reached for her hand and pulled her along to join the crowd. Although they weren’t dressed to match them she didn’t think they’d mind a pair of dragons standing out in a sea of colors.

Upon walking by the instructors they welcomed them with a warm smile not minding and pointed for them to walk on likely whatever free spot they could find when they were ready. Her hold on Elibe’s dragon became loose once they found a quiet spot—well not quiet at all, but more than the front row—at the back. Before joining in with the movement she took a second to tie her hair up in the style she always would when preparing herself to train, this time no braids to decorate her hair outside the one she already had, just something comfy!

Loosening her shirt a little to prepare herself to jump around she took one last look to Idunn. Her hair was long and just like hers moments prior to tying it up, it was loose. “Do you want me to tie your hair? You might be more comfortable that way, but no need to if you’re uncomfortable.” Not like long hair would cause problems to anyone, in the end it was Alear’s own preferences for training.

Though now that she looked at her own boots in comparison to the outfit the rest were wearing, if she hit someone… ouch.

alear is the LEAST interesting thing about ivy's character imo. her family struggles, becoming elusia's queen, having to turn against her country to save it, a dark and cunning woman who can actually be very sweet and shy... all of that got me so bad

& i loved her unexpected religious dilemma of being a fell worshipper that turns to the divine, to rebel and cope with the darkness around her but making it into a mindless obsession that leans heavily on the girlfail stuff? no thanks. the character assassination & obnoxious behavior of fans (both for m!alear and f!alear, mostly gatekeeping who ivy should ship with) have made this an uncomfortable & despised ship for me and so many others

I have a spicy fucking take for you king. Rhajat is the best wlw option we've ever gotten. Id argue shes the best queer option but im not a man so im not gonna argue that. (Best mlm is Yuri tho I love him.) I feel she's the most human. She's pretty flawed but still ultimately a good person. (No offense to the 3h/engage bis). Her wlw support with corrin is still imo better than byleth or alear's supports with their respective girls. I find it really sweet but also good for both characters. I like how Corrin messes up and apologizes for forcing her ideas of "normal" onto Rhajat. She learns to accept Rhajat for who she is. And for a character who's said to be creepy and predatory she respects corrin's boundaries by (albeit begrudgingly) not staying behind Corrin during the tea party. Sure she still stalks but it's something. (Soleil doesn't respect ANY boundaries but yall ain't ready for that conversation full offense HEYO.)

Like, it's impressive that she managed to be the most separated from Tharja compared to the other Awakening copies in Fates' second gen. Sorry, but I think it is pretty sexist of you to be making a blog centering just M!Alear while excluding F!Alear from it. Other asks have already told you, but Fandom should be accepting of both. But doing something like this, making a blog centered on only one of them, is just pushing sexism.

It's stupid how people will get hate for making a blog that celebrates only F!Alear, because "it is sexist towards M!Alear!" (No it is not. You cannot be sexist towards men. They have and never will face oppression for existing.) It is stupid how some of us will get hate for loving F!Alear more and trying to give her love and attention. Considering Bernedetta is still up there while Alcryst isn't the top 5 of Engage characters but Diamant is, you can infer Bernie fans and Alcryst fans aren't merging. Ironically Leo and Takumi being in the top 20 could mean you're correct and fans of Takumi and Leo intersect with Alcryst thus he's not getting as many votes because Leo and Takumi are getting them. Look as a Fates fan I really don't get the Bernie love because Fates is a bunch of anime tropes but she's fine just rubs me the wrong way, but she has a hardcore base I suppose

Leo and Takumi have always maintained a top 20 position/top 5-10ish Fates characters so I can't say conclusively if there's any sort of real vote siphon going on. If anything, Alcryst is probably siphoning their votes because people probably figure he has the best shot to win this year.

Also keep in mind, the top 5 is not divided by gender. There are three women taking up three of the spots (Ivy, Yunaka, and F!Alear) so for all we know Alcryst could be the #3 Engage male character behind M!Alear and Diamant. The top five rankings are neat but I wouldn't take them too seriously.

But yeah I'll be completely honest: everyone who was predicting Alcryst would siphon votes from Bernie clearly do not understand the demographics of FEH/the primary target demographic of Bernadetta. And I don't mean this to be demeaning, but Bernie-as-a-character is written in a way that indulges in a fantasy primarily held by straight men. She's the "broken girl who only trusts you and needs you to protect her". That's why her Byleth supports go all in on "omg I'm usually such a mess but I feel safe with basically zero effort around you professor because you're special!" Alcryst, I would guess, was not written with that demographic in mind. He definitely has his appeals to his specific demographics, but I highly doubt there's a lot of overlap between who he was designed to appeal to and who Bernie was designed to appeal to.

Even if they were a 1:1 comparison just with the gender flipped, that doesn't mean they're going to appeal to the same people. The way they're perceived is going to be affected by their genders. For example, a lot of straight men probably find Alcryst whiny or feel like he needs to "man up". If we went back in time about 10-15 years I'm sure they'd even have some choice slurs for gay men to call him. That's no doubt because in our society we view men who are shy, overly apologetic, jumpy, lacking confidence or self-esteem, etc. as weak and shameful. Whereas with women, lacking confidence and self-esteem is not only expected but often desirable. So you can wind up with two characters who are exactly the same but one will be perceived differently based on gender norms and socialization.

Something similar happened with Corrin back in the day. While both Corrins got flack, M!Corrin, particularly M!Corrin in Conquest, got hit particularly hard with criticism complaining about how he was whiny, he was weak, he was stupid, he was overdramatic, etc. while F!Corrin (who Conquest was likely natively written around) slid under the radar more.

Honestly you could do a whole essay on Conquest v. Birthright, the way they were written/localized with a particular Corrin in mind, and what that says about how society treats gender (particularly how F!BR!Corrin doesn't get shit for taking on more """masc""" traits of being headstrong and violent, but M!CQ!Corrin gets shit for taking on the more """femme""" traits of CQ, such as making an "emotional" decision to side with Nohr, being all about pacifism and cooperation, and openly expressing strong emotions of sadness and regret). But idk if I wanna be the one to write it.

Imagine being triggered by someone minding their business and showing love and support to a version of the avatar they like. I think the description of "I like M!Alear" is enough for people to understand what this blog is for and definitely contrasts that person's blog. And to be frank, I know I am not the only person who is annoyed with them. But I will still try to be cordial with them. Though I do hope they understand that their actions are just going to make some others dislike F!Alear by associating her with them.
