I have talked before about how frustrating i find thay the paladins and co. will act like Lance has rocks for brains one moment
Tumblr media
And next moment listen to him in dangerous situations with no complains.
Tumblr media
So my headcanon is that Lance has a "locked in" voice.
When you hear his normal voice you know its safe to play and joke around, the situation is not that dire, but the locked in voice is the kind of voice you hear telling you "you have ten seconds to stop this shit and you are already at seven" and your monkey brain tells you, you need to listen or else !!!

when adam met 11yo keith he immediately knew that keith was gay and was like i have GOT to support this kid!! (runs into traffic) meanwhile shiro spent years operating under the assumption that keith had like a gender thing going on

anyways long story short, the other day I was running errands while my MP3 player kept on playing songs on shuffle from the Index/Railgun franchise while I was thinking about my aoex fics... and I ended up with a fusion AU as a result, lmao. it definitely takes more heavily from the science side of the franchise but the only thing you really need to understand about the franchise is the knowledge that
a.) it takes place in Academy City, an independent city state largely populated by students and houses hundreds of schools, with the primary goal of unlocking and developing esper abilities that rank from Level 0 (no ability) to Level 5 (the highest possible rank and the least common).
b.) it has a dark underside that makes Section 13 look like a harmless daycare. these fuckers especially like trying to unlock the theoretical Level Six or dual abilities.
c.) orphans taken in by Academy City are called Child Errors. those who have abilities without the need for Academy City's development program are called Gemstones.
okay! now I can actually talk about the AU, lmao.
the key points are:
rin and yukio are twins living in academy city, who unlike most of the other students, live there with their mother yuri in a church run by shiro. rin is a level 5 pyrokinetic and yukio is a level 0 with no ability of his own.
for years, rin was unable to fully control his own ability- he's possessed his flames since he was born and has been powerful from the starting gate. everyone in the family except for yukio have burns somewhere on their body from rin's early lack of control, but rin himself has the most- he keeps them covered, but his hands and arms are pockmarked with old burn scars.
these days he has excellent control of his flames!
...but he still has a reputation of being dangerous and out of control regardless, so most people are too afraid to actually talk to him- except for those who want the glory of beating a level 5 in a fight. he constantly finds himself getting into fights that isolate him further at school.
despite his bad reputation, yukio has still grown up in rin's shadow. people expect him to be equally as strong as his brother- but he doesn't have an ability at all. instead, he's devoted himself to his studies, an area in which his brother struggles.
upon entering high school, rin is determined to actually make some friends for a change. he and yukio enroll in true cross academy- both on a scholarship- yukio for his academics, and rin for being well. a level 5.
shiemi is also a level 5! her ability is plant manipulation. unbeknownst to her, her grandmother and mother have both served on academy city's board of directors- and for that exact reason, they've done their best to keep shiemi far away from the dark side of academy city.
shima is a level 4 pyrokinetic who wields black flames, and secretly works as an enforcer for the dark side of academy city. he actually ran away from home in middle school to enroll in academy city because he didn't want to follow the path his family had set out for him.
ryuuji and konekomaru are his childhood friends, who came after him in their last year of middle school to convince him to go home, but ended up staying. the temple they all grew up in is still impoverished- and with the scholarship they both obtained, they get free housing and meals.
ryuuji is a level 3 who can generate barriers! you fuckers can't all have pyrokinesis. konekomaru is probably a level 2, but I actually haven't decided on what his ability is yet. definitely something support, since he's more suited to that.
izumo is a level 3 who can manipulate electricity. she and her sister are child errors who were taken into academy city after tamamo did a murder suicide with their father. with no one to protect her, izumo got entangled in a shady experiment upon arrival and is doing her best to protect tsukumo from it.
(paku is also a level 0 who stubbornly befriends izumo)
amaimon and takara are here to carry the flag of level 5s who have something deeply wrong with them. earth manipulation and telekinesis respectively.
what rin and yukio don't know about their origins is that they're the result of an attempt to artificially create a level 5. rin was the experiments only real success, but it became clear that unless something drastically changed in his environment, he was going to destroy himself.
thus, one of the scientists proposed a plan- raise him as a normal child, and see if that helped with his control and stability. to that end, she took one of the failed experiments with her and created the setting that they were twins. both rin and yukio are clones of a gemstone who was given the codename Satan, though they've had tweaks so they're not necessarily identical.
yuri voice: i'm just raising them for the experiment. i'm not going to get attached.
(she's so, so wrong.)
pov: you are shiro. a woman has arrive at your church with twin children, looking for sanctuary. you don't turn her away, even if you can tell she's lying- because her eldest child looks almost identical to your own long dead twin brother at that age.
(and he even has his flames)

"—ppy Birthday tooo yooou!" The light was dimmed and the only illumination came from the numerous candles set alight on a shiny fruit and cream shortcake, your smile as bright as the sun as your friends sang in the background. "—ke a wish before you blow the candle—"
Click.
"—toru, hurry up before the timer hits!—" "—f my life, my angel, my—" A young Satoru ran to your side and gave your cheek a big-ass smooch as countless golden ginkgo leaves rained in your background. A picture-perfect autumn ahead of a new year full of decisions. "Ahaha! Nooo! That tickl—"
Click.
"—guru, come on over! You too, Shoko! It—" Empty coffee cups were strewn across your shared table with your friends, the sound of both laughter and complaints filling the air as your friends gathered around you and Satoru, his laughter the loudest of them all. "—haha! Ack! No! W-Wait up, Kento! Satoru said—"
Click.
"Oh, so that's what you've been up to, Seiya," you said, breaking the silence that enveloped your son's bedroom as he jumped from his gaming chair and hurriedly minimized the open video player on his PC.
"M-Mom! H-How long have you been standing there?!"
"Long enough for me to know where my missing SD cards went," you chuckled at the evidently embarrassed face of your teenage son, the spitting image of his father in his youth except for his eyes— which he clearly inherited from you. "Now how did you get your hands on these?"
"W-Well, I..." Came the boy's sheepish reply, a nervous hand on his nape as he evaded your curious gaze. His embarrassed expression starkly contrasted with your husband's usual mischievousness and boisterousness, even though they shared the same long, feathery and silvery eyelashes and hair.
"You're not in trouble, dear, if that's what you're worried about," you reassured him as you took a half-seat on the handle of his chair, careful not to rest your entire weight on it. "Now let me see..."
Seiya released his mouse to you, which you used to click on the minimized video player once more. Digicams were all the rage back when you were in high school and well into college and as the only one in your friend group who owned one, you were primarily responsible for documenting every mundane and special occasion whenever you all got together.
"Oh, this was from my 18th birthday," you laughed as you clicked on the following snippets. "And this was when your father and I visited Meiji Shrine before our college entrance exams. Aaand I think this was just a regular day! We just had coffee..."
"Aunt Shoko never really stopped smoking, did she?" Came your son's query as he eyed you browsing through the aged video clips with a small smile on your face. It was clear to him that you were reminiscing now about the days of your youth, encapsulated in slightly grainy and overexposed photos and videos, yet the memories were clear as day.
"Nope. Though she does that thing now. That, uh, vaping thing? Now don't get any ideas, young man."
"I-I won't, Mom! I promise!" Seiya stammered at your slight warning. "I'm sorry I touched your things. I just thought it would be interesting... to see how you and dad were when you were my age."
Oh, but he pulls off those adorable puppy dog eyes just like his father, all right.
"It's hard to believe that he had so much time for you back then! I-I mean he's so busy now! Does he even remember to text you or at least get you a gift every now and then? I-If not, maybe we can go somewhere together? Or do something together?"
"Oh, Seiya. I'll have you know that I am very happy to be married to your father," you gently laughed at your son's little outburst, coiling your arms around his neck as he lazily rested his warm cheek on your chest. "He loves me a great deal and does so much for me. And for you, in case you've forgotten."
"I... I know," came his defeated response. "All the work he does is for us..."
"I don't think Toru is so busy that he forgets us... Do you perhaps miss your father, Seiya?"
"N-No, I don't!" The boy huffed in your arms, his brows furrowed as he attempted to hide his evidently embarrassed face yet again.
"Your father and I love you very much, Seiya," you said with a smile and a soft hum as you tenderly ran your fingers through your son's hair. You weren't surprised when he wrapped his arms around you and returned your embrace. I suppose he takes after his father in clinginess, too.
"I already know that... But thanks, mom."

Commissions open. Direct message for more info. $20. Anyone wanna bet that after the war Ryuji signs them all up for therapy? Like the responsible mom that he is. Mephisto pays for it, because he can’t have his children soldiers and favorite little brother crying every three seconds. Also if any of my favs die I will have a breakdown.

Because I'm still bitter... The first time I consciously verbalized that "I hate this show", came when, as I predicted, there was absolutely no acknowledgement of Shiro having no living family on Earth, come the Atlas's "launch date" at the start of Season Eight.
We get shots of each of the Paladins interacting with their families, including Allura as a part of Lance's family, which is a sweet touch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, there's a passing shot of Shiro standing alone and isolated on the Atlas's bridge that he isn't even the focus of.
Tumblr media
I had a feeling this would be the case when, ahead of the finale of the second season, the Paladins are cheerfully reflecting on their growth and the challenges that they've overcome preceding what they believe will be their final fight with Zarkon.
Shiro, however, is dead silent, back turned to the others, and, when we do see his expression, he's stone-faced and seemingly deep in contemplation. Something that no one acknowledges, or seems to be in any way concerned about, even with Shiro's history of thoughts that he loses himself in being distinctly unpleasant ones.
Tumblr media
When he does speak, it's to somberly offer the definitive statement, "You realize, once we defeat Zarkon, the universe won't need Voltron, anymore." The kids naturally express wanting to see their families, again, once the burden of defending the universe has been lifted from their shoulders, even if it means, for Pidge and Keith, going out and finding them.
Shiro, though, voices no such desires. He dons the Fearless Leader/Black Paladin mask and encourages his underlings that they can't fail, and that's that. Cue them looking dramatically out over the horizon before the credits roll.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One could hem and haw and offer any number of supposed explanations for the unsettling absence of any lifegoals for Shiro outside of "defeat the bad guy and defend the universe", especially viewing this scene in hindsight.
"Shiro and his long-term partner split up before the Kerberos mission. Maybe it would be awkward for Shiro to see him, again, and Shiro doesn't want to discuss that with a group of teenagers, especially as their commanding officer."
"Maybe they intended for Shiro's family to show up later and simply didn't have the time to include them, or he has a strained and/or estranged relationship with his family and wasn't too concerned with going back to them."
"He's been declared legally dead, and the cartoon made to sell toys to kids didn't want to bog their child audience's brains down with the confangled nuisances of bureaucracy."
"Maybe Shiro had no personal desire to return to Earth, and would have assisted Pidge in looking for Matt and Sam had he lived."
And, any of these would be more interesting than what we were actually given, which is nothing, because the showrunners didn't know how to and weren't equipped to handle the sheer level of complex and compounded trauma they had afflicted Shiro with. It was easier to brush it all aside, as that shot of an out of focus Shiro so deftly displays. Especially once Shiro had been killed and effectively permanently replaced as the Black Paladin, then brought back to life and retired to "boring adult" status. They killed his partner off-screen, following the dissolution of the relationship, and briefly showed Shiro mourning the loss,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and I guess that was their "emotional pathos for Shiro" quota met for the rest of the show.
After that, he was gifted his own ship and the position of Captain/Admiral aboard it to sequester him off with Sam, Iverson, Veronica, Slav, a similarly unceremoniously demoted Coran, and the rest of the side characters, under the guise of him being promoted to a position of actual significance. And, as much as I love Shiro having his own ship, and the figure he cuts in that stylish and immensely flattering Admiral coat, it shouldn't have to be said that this is both a massive insult to his character after he had the most narrative significance and pathos of anyone during the first two seasons, and a cheap, cowardly tactic employed to avoid the reality that the writers have alluded to Shiro seeing himself as having no purpose if he isn't performing a heroic duty to others, and being passively suicidal when no such duty exists.
"Don't look too closely, everyone! Let's not linger too long on this!" Otherwise, you'll realize that Shiro, in fact, has no one to support him outside of people who already have families of their own. And, "The universe won't need Voltron, anymore", was really Shiro saying, "The universe won't need me, anymore."
And, damned if the brain trusts behind this show didn't try to prove how little they needed Shiro, only for their story to fall apart at the seams after killing him, and the quality to, fittingly, take a nosedive straight into the abyss once they committed to nerfing and sidelining him while having other characters pitifully attempt to retrace steps that he had already taken, stumbling over his distinct and unforgettable bootprints.

Idk why but I feel like Shiro used to watch furry content and was super into watching furry suit making videos at some point,,,
And he'd make Adam watch them with him and point out the things he thought were really cool, but he'd make it very clear that he's not a furry, bc he doesn't want Adam to think he's weird

I'll just never get over how despite wanting to be the leader himself, Lance still helped Keith be a Leader and see he was capable of doing so after being stuck in his own grief.
And it's canon like?!?!?
They work so well together when it's time to be genuine I'm so ಥ‿ಥ
It always makes me so sad when ppl erase or leave out that part of their journey. That Lance helped. Bc it's just so important to Keiths character.
It doesn't make Keith weaker or less capable that he needed it but he needed someone to get through to him/support him and Lance did just that without even being asked.
It showed their growth and maturity, it's so pivotal and not even from a shipper standpoint.
For Keith to be able to admit he messed up/was stressed?
HUGE
For Lance to listen? HUGE
"This is all my fault. I followed him right into this trap. Everyone warned me, but I didn't listen. I put the entire team in jeopardy."
"Yeah, you kinda did. But now we gotta fix it."
Tumblr media
That "we" is so important bc it's not even referencing just them two but the whole team coming together bc Keith was acting too radical he missed they were all there for him if allowed to be. They may have looked towards Lance to approach Keith (though Lance didn't notice nor need it he did so voluntarily) but they followed Keith as a leader from the start.
They were all willing to follow him, they all trusted him.
Lances voice was just loud enough and persistent enough to get through to him bc lance knew without shiro someone needed to try. Lance was so insanely supportive and so insanely important to Keiths rise to true leadership.
Keith accepting the help, the role, as himself and not as a replacement for shiro bc of that is always so powerful. He finally realized he didn't have to stand on a pedestal to be a leader, he could use his team as his pillars just as they could use him as one too.
"You're right. Let's go."
He's no Shiro but that doesn't mean he can't be their leader too.
Screaming
Tumblr media
Then later it's Keith reassuring Lance he's more than a replacement or a placeholder. They grow so much bc of that initial support being built up the trust they have in one another is immeasurable.
They understand eachothers positions more than anyone else could bc they're in similar shoes.
Two ppl taken from their lions to another.
Two ppl changing rank in ways they didn't want.
And that unyielding support for eachother is just so so satisfying. This is why I adore their bp Keith and red lance dynamic. Ok it's not as popular but it really shows how they grow as a unit and I wish they'd utilized that so much more.

Headcanons where I just make up shit about characters cause I can: Shiro doesn't like hugs, but feels like this contradicts with his friendly image so he'll usually panickedly offer shoulder pats, the occasional side hug, high fives and apologise and the team keeps trying to explain to him that that's fine

Do yall ever think about its kinda weird Selena can’t marry Ryoma in Revelations? OKAY HEAR ME OUT !!! This really has nothing to do with Ryoma and more so has everything to do with Shiro. But, like I think they’d have an interesting dynamic!
Honestly, Shiro & Selena are kinda cut from the same cloth in a lot of ways? Like they’re both hyper competitive as a result of feeling sorta abandoned by their parents. Like both realize that there were reasons for what their parents did, but it does fuck them up a bit still? Like idk she’d probs not react well to Shiro being so much like her in motivation. Albeit Shiro almost responds worse than she does? And for good reason honestly! The whole being kept in the dark about not just being royalty, but the crown prince is A LOT !!! But they both have that “I’ve gotta be better” mentality paired with a good dose of self doubt & tendency for comparison. To different extremes of course, and while Shiro has more to be upset about, he definitely deals with things a bit better? In the way, that he’s a bit more emotionally available. Like he’s a bit more laid back than Severa ever was.
Like they parallel each other in a lot of ways, but are both still pretty distinct. Like obvs Severa never goes out of her way to counter Cordelia, unlike Shiro lol.
idk this is very much a late night thought that’s very much not fleshed out lol so I apologize! Despite both characters being 2 of my faves in Fates truly never thought abt their similarities till now lol. It just kinda clicked in my brain for some reason!

The thing is that Shiro and Keith still deeply care about each other, even after everything that's been done to them. In a lot of ways, they've become different people- but their bond, their relationship with the other is still the same as it was before they became Shiron and Karrion. They're still brothers. They still have the same banter, treat each other the same way.
They're still willing to do anything for the other.
Their quarters on Shiron's ship are connected by a shared training room. They spar a lot- Karrion doesn't want to get complacent and end up becoming the type of druid who uses their magic for everything. Shiron knows that he has to stay at the top of his game if he wants to be taken seriously, since it's not exactly uncommon knowledge that he's an artificial Galra. It's their way of bonding with one another, a time when they can both be themselves.
Shiron takes his role as a Commander very seriously. His quarters are filled with archival records, on everything from war tactics to Galra history. He memorizes the name and face of every Galra under his command- he's ruthless to his enemies, but those in his service regard him as both an excellent leader and a fair boss. He's level-headed and calm under pressure, but is a fearsome warrior. He often has to be goaded into taking breaks, because otherwise he won't.
Karrion might as well be Shiron's shadow. It's rare to see one without the other, unless Karrion has been called away by Haggar. His talent as a druid is a rare one, and as much as he doesn't want to become totally magic dependent, he spends a lot of time on his studies. His quarters are cluttered with a collection of magical artifacts from across the universe, and boards with half finished magical theories. It reminds Shiron of his shack back on Earth, the one Karrion no longer remembers.
Karrion will often drag Shiron off the bridge to take a break, to eat something. Shiron will often do the same, because his brother is just as bad. They patch up each others injuries. They fight side by side. Karrion still laughs at his brother's bad jokes. Shiron will lecture his brother when he lets his recklessness get the best of him. Sometimes they'll just hang out, just the two of them.
They also reinforce the other's brainwashing. Haggar no longer needs to condition them, because now they are conditioning each other. They are both loyal to the Galra Empire. They both chose this. They never call the other by their original names- even Shiron, who remembers.
Shiro and Keith are dead. They killed them themselves.
(eventually, they will understand that's not true.)

Adam and Shiro being in RWRB AU
* Adam and Shiro coming from very established families especially at the Garrison, though Adam's not only help contributes but also helped found the Garrison
* Shiro secretly having a crush on Adam but didn't know it at first
* then it hits him one night
*Adam is aware he has strong feelings for Shiro he just doesn't know where they lie
*the two are the biggest rivals ever competing for top spot
*Shiro asks for class changes due to Adam being in most and once he realizes his crush can't blushing around him
* Adam assumes Shiro wants more rivalry than friendship and goes with it
*Matt and Keith are done with their shit obviously
*Adam starts to be colder to Shiro and throws himself into his studies since he doesn't have Shiro in many of his classes anymore
*there's a formal gathering where they make fools of themselves so they have to be besties at things
*it starts with them being roommates and being in all the same classes together
*they start getting along
*at the next big event when Adam sees Shiro talking to someone (he thinks it's flirting) not to mention his over stimulation he goes outside
*Shiro finds him
*Adam kisses Shiro and freaks out and leaves.
*Adam like leaves leaves, when Shiro goes back to their dorm Adam is gone along with all of his things. All of their friends haven't seen Adam either
*Adam's family forces him back for his mid terms/end of term exams and he completely ignores Shiro acting like Shiro doesn't even exist
*Shiro finds Adam asleep one night in the library. Shiro takes Adam back to their dorm (Shiro still refers to it as theirs despite now rooming with Matt and taking on Keith). Shiro sleeps on the couch putting Adam in his bed
*The two start a secret relationship though they act like friends to the public. Only Matt and Keith know
*The two go away for Spring Break together. They're saying 'I love you' at this point but Shiro confides how hard he has fallen for Adam, which freaks Adam out so he leaves. (Not due to Shiros feelings but due to his own bc he realizes how deep his feelings for Shiro goes and it scares him)
*Adam doesn't resurface at the Garrison for a while after spring break so Shiro throws himself into his studies.
*Someone who is jealous of them, their spots, their grades, shares photos with the Garrison of Adam and Shiro kissing and holding hands (person thinks that Adam and Shiro only got their spots bc of their families) as an expose (person could also have a thing for Adam or Shiro)
*Matt and Keith become Shiros saving grace at the Garrison while it turns out Veronica and Adam are besties and she's his saving grace at home
*Veronica and Matt plot together to get Shiro to Adam
*Shiro is upset at Adam for ghosting and not even responding once the photos came to light
*Adam then confesses how deep his feelings for Shiro goes and how it scares him and when the photos came out he was only worried for Shiros safety not his own
*the two reconcile
*to everyone's surprise it's not Adam's family they have to convince its Sanda bc she's too busy trying to "protect" the reputation of Adam's family
*Adam and Shiro live happily ever after with their gremlin little brother/son Keith
