News from Glazednourishes year 11, Summer
Our new tavern draws in new guests. Yes we hired a bard, we need someone to keep all our 9 residents entertained.
Oh I see that's how it is.
I refuse of course, Slyriddle is one of the three best artifacts we have.

Fortress nurse!reader where wrio is grumpy and moody and makes it the problem of all the inmates because it’s flu season and you’ve banned him from unnecessary visits to the infirmary because you insist that “someone with as important of a role as the duke becoming sick would surely cause problems”

sometimes i think about the fact that vautrin, in his current timeline verse, will just deadass sit on the seabed for hours
like. imagine you're swimming along, enjoying the beautiful underwater landscape, and there's just this guy sat at the bottom of the ocean as if it's the most normal thing in the world to do

You mentioned aotearoa being closed off for awhile. Was there anything the mercs brought that had Sniper impressed/confused by?
EEE IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS QUESTION
Yes and I’ll do it in a list:
Baseball caps and just the idea of Baseball in general
The idea of the Sun/Sky (and in part about Space and the Moon)
Different accents + languages
The concepts of movie theaters/malls/shopping centers
Donuts (Scout offered him a jelly filled one and he was just- gobsmacked)
Cigarettes/cigars
Demo’s Eyepatch
Tom Jones
Everything involving Pyro
“America” and in part what the rest of the world was like from his tiny home
Panini presses (Don’t ask)
How the mercs seemed to be confused and in awe with how Sniper and in part the rest of Aotearoa was technologically advanced and yet did traditional Māori practices
How guns work (he’s never touched one in his life but he has seen them before)
And lastly the fact they weren’t from a nuclear infested wasteland. He was hella confused and along with everyone in Aotearoa
There’s a bunch more things, especially after he got to be on the surface and realized how all the things his father had told him and their people.
Also just as an add on, the Pākehā (White New Zealander) part of Aotearoa (which they call themselves Little New Zealand), is stuck in a 1930s fashion/aesthetic. They rejected a lot of help that the Māori people tried to offer them and just exists on its own little plan of existence within the done over the country

Kruessakt and Brook's place whenever they set it up has gotta be a nightmare to anyone visiting, because it's
1. a tower or part of an abandoned fortress in the underdark, so probably well-hidden and lots of stairs--which isn't as much of a problem if you also float everywhere
2. very humid, slimy in many places. Hope you aren't allergic to various forms of underdark fungi
3. They set up resonance stones not only in their living areas, but near entrances, and the latter wig people out that either makes them leave or go deeper in where they'll eventually hit a room where the stones will make them feel a sense of relief (after getting past a ton of traps) (before they get eaten)
4. You might get mobbed by a ton of intellect devourers, but if you're considered part of the colony (such as Lenore) this is a good thing because they aren't trying to all maim you
5. If you spend the night your bed will be wet, because they forget other people do not have a mucus layer to maintain, usually.
At least Kruessakt really pulls through with the interior design for the living spaces, though

So, This Happened, NOW WITH SURFACE KOBOLDS!
I have retired the successful older fortress because SURFACE KOBOLDS.
I noticed while making the last one, that you can put buildings on floors in the modern version, and that means easy surface building! Behold some of the first screenshots of my castle!
It’s working! The castle is much bigger than this now, and I only go underground to mine and farm. In theory, there is nothing to stop anyone from building elevated farms and pumping water up to muddy the floors, and relying only on surface crops. Maybe later I will add that to an upper floor and abandon underground farming. I’ll think about it.
I made a priority of walling the castle off ENTIRELY, and if I have to expand on ground level, I add the new exterior, THEN open it up to the interior and do interior building. It works: An undead siege stood around scratching their heads.
Blocks. It takes SO MANY BLOCKS to do this, especially if you like a consistent aesthetic theme. I couldn’t do it if it weren’t for making wooden blocks for floors, 4 blocks per log.
Further posts will feature actual adventures in this new surface world!

Playing dwarf fortress and I have no idea why, but about half my visitors went crazy and started attacking my dwarfs? A couple if my dwarves died but mostly it was a complete bloodbath.
My best guess is it was somehow linked to the artefact theft attempt that happened at the same time somehow?
Anyway the corpses have been cleaned up so uh. I guess that's all fine?
