A woman staying at an Airbnb discovers that the house she has rented is not what it seems.
where can I watch it: Hulu/Max
rating: 9/10
HOT DAMN THIS ONE WAS GOOD.
It’s been a bit since I watched this one, but I absolutely adored it. It was a GREAT monster movie.
The monster itself was wonderfully done; I love a good bastardization of motherhood up in here. Its origin delightfully delivered (love the change in aspect ratio to delineate time periods).
It’s well paced, escalates smoothly, and has a lot of tooth to it. A great movie if you want a cautionary tale against air bnb’s lol.
I put it on the rec list. There's only so much I can say about it, honestly. Just go see it. It's so good.

65 (2023) - REVIEW
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS
After his ship crashes on prehistoric Earth, the pilot rescues a young girl, the only surviving passenger, where they must traverse the dangerous landscape to reach an escape ship that was lost during the crash.
youtube
It has a premise that is never explained, the set up is achieved in some very questionable circumstances but none less what we should have is a fun filled adventure that sees Adam Driver take on some dinosaurs. 65 has some other things going forward it as well; it's only 90 minutes long so it doesn't outstay its welcome, the dinosaur effects are good and the back drop is stunning. Yet 65 is just so unforgivably dull and disinteresting during its first half that I struggled not to walk out. What also didn't help matters was the awful editing that at times swiftly took a character out of what seemed like imminent danger and into a place of safety. Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt give strong performances as a pair hindered by a language barrier and their relationship does develop to the point that I sort of cared what happened to them. The second half is a lot stronger than the first but given that the first half was so dull, my investment simply wasn't there to make it a satisfying experience.

VERDICT
Despite its committed lead actors, 65 is too dull for too long to be a satisfying experience.
2.5/5

Cut out the phone call with Arven and the first part of Pecharunt's appearance, but the little "DONK!" sound and way the mochi just bounced off Kiki's forehead, and him touching where it hit, like "ow, that'll probably leave a bump tomorrow 😣"
Also, not something the stills can convey, but when Penny's talking, Kieran does a little "You have got to be kidding me" lean-forward and jaw drop. Like, these people are all going weird screaming "mochi mochi" and here y'all eating the suspicious mochi that strange Pokemon shot at you, what are you doing?!"
There's the fucking Pokemon Center nurse too giving zero fucks about any of the brainwashed insanity going on around town atm, just playing on her phone. Girl does not get paid enough to care:

American Carnage (2022)
Tumblr media
After a governor issues an executive order to arrest the children of undocumented immigrants, the newly detained youth are offered an opportunity to have their charges dropped by volunteering to provide care to the elderly.
Where can I watch it: hulu
review: 6/10 (roast worthy)
ONE FOR THE ROAST LIST!
This is a movie that tries to juggle between being a legitimate horror piece and being a horror comedy and it fails at both. Despite having a lot of makeup work and visual effects that were surprisingly good, it just didn't lean in to any one direction.
The main villains and the character Big Mac seemed to be the only ones aware of how campy the movie they were in is. They made the whole thing much more enjoyable to watch.
It's a fun movie. It's especially fun to watch with friends and yell at the screen for the whole thing. But, I wouldn't go out of the way to watch this with a seriousness on my own time.

I don't think I've ever seen a sex scene as tender and emotionally intimate as the one in Paris. First moment in the movie that genuinely made me tear up.
