Tourist places in Iceland
Iceland is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, volcanic activity, and unique natural wonders. Here are some of the top tourist places to visit in Iceland:
Reykjavik: Iceland's capital and largest city, Reykjavik, is a vibrant cultural hub with colorful buildings, excellent dining, and a lively nightlife scene. Don't miss landmarks such as the Hallgrímskirkja church, Harpa Concert Hall, and the Sun Voyager sculpture.
The Blue Lagoon: Located near Reykjavik, the Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland's most popular attractions. This geothermal spa offers visitors the chance to bathe in mineral-rich waters surrounded by lava fields, making it a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
Golden Circle: This popular tourist route encompasses three main attractions: Thingvellir National Park, where visitors can see the rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, Geysir Geothermal Area, known for its erupting geysers, and Gullfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland's most stunning waterfalls.
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon: Located in southeast Iceland, Jökulsárlón is a breathtaking glacial lagoon filled with icebergs that have calved from the nearby Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. Visitors can take boat tours to get up close to the icebergs or simply admire the stunning scenery from the shore.
Vik: This charming village on Iceland's south coast is known for its dramatic black sand beaches, including Reynisfjara Beach with its unique basalt columns and the nearby Dyrhólaey rock arch.
Skaftafell National Park: Part of the larger Vatnajökull National Park, Skaftafell offers visitors the chance to explore diverse landscapes, including glaciers, waterfalls, and lush green valleys. Popular hiking trails lead to Svartifoss waterfall and the glacier tongue of Svínafellsjökull.
Landmannalaugar: This remote area in the Highlands of Iceland is famous for its colorful rhyolite mountains, hot springs, and excellent hiking trails. The Laugavegur Trek, a multi-day hiking route, begins or ends here.
Snæfellsnes Peninsula: Often referred to as "Iceland in miniature," the Snæfellsnes Peninsula offers a variety of landscapes, including volcanic peaks, black sand beaches, and coastal cliffs. Visitors can explore landmarks such as Snæfellsjökull volcano and the charming fishing villages of Arnarstapi and Hellnar.
Akureyri: Iceland's second-largest city, Akureyri, is located in the north of the country and offers a range of cultural attractions, including museums, galleries, and botanical gardens. Nearby attractions include Goðafoss waterfall and Lake Mývatn.
Þórsmörk: This beautiful valley, nestled between glaciers and mountains in the southern Highlands, is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. Visitors can explore numerous hiking trails, including the popular Fimmvörðuháls trail, which offers stunning views of glaciers, volcanoes, and waterfalls. https://www.aecglobal.com.au/
These are just a few examples of the many incredible tourist places to visit in Iceland. Whether you're interested in exploring dramatic landscapes, relaxing in geothermal hot springs, or experiencing Icelandic culture, Iceland has something to offer every traveler.

Day two, stop three, Svínafellsjökull Glacier. Unfortunately due to time crunch (I couldn't get a late check in) I had to rush through it a bit. It also wasn't where I was actually aiming for, that being the Skafatel glacier. Whether I was just on the wrong road or it was closed (the signs didn't make a lot of sense) I wound up here instead.

This is an ice cave, known as "crystal Cave" on the frozen lagoon of the Svínafellsjökull glacier in Skaftafell, Iceland. This snow, which is up to 1000 years old, has metamorphosed into highly pressurized glacier ice that contains almost no air bubbles. The lack of air means that it absorbs almost all visible light, apart from the blue fraction which is then visible to the naked eye. This cave inthe glacier ice is the result of glacial mill, or Moulin, where rain and melt water on the glacier surface are channeled into streams that enter the glacier at crevices. The water melts a hole into the glacier while the ponded water drains towards lower elevations by forming long ice caves with an outlet at the terminus of the glacier. This cave can only safely be accessed in winter, when the lagoon is thoroughly frozen over. -Jean For more photos of ice caves see:http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/slideshow/stunning-images-europes-ice-caves-15909667 Photo courtesy of Christian Klepp
