i was tagged by the wunderful @entropydisco to provide five favorite songs, so here are some fun ones (:

“O, great Svyelun! We have erected a temple in your honor!”

The goddess stifled a giggle, her stoic expression briefly faltering. The other merfolk crowded around her in concern, prompting her to wave them away.

“I-It’s nothing, it’s nothing,” Svyelun tittered. “My apologies. You were saying you…built me a temple?”

The head priest swam forward, nodding eagerly. “Yes! If you come with me, I could show you.”

“Lead the way.”

A short swim later, Svyelun was frowning down at an assembly of toppled pillars and crumbling stone walls resting on the sea floor. The other merfolk was oblivious to his god’s disappointment as he gestured grandly to the ruins.

“I hope that this humble place of worship is to your liking.”

“It’s crap.”

The head priest flinched at Svyelun’s brutal honestly. “It…is admittedly rather sparse in decoration. But the builders and I were rather hoping that our devotion would make up for-”

“No, I mean…” Svyelun jabbed a webbed finger down at a particularly dilapidated column. “You just built it, right? Well, it looks like it’s already aged a thousand years. And not in a good way. Tell me you didn’t design it like this, right?”

“O-Of course not!”

“Of course not,” Svyelun echoed skeptically.

“Well…if nothing else, it’s still built atop a leyline. So, you’ll have access to blue mana aplenty, should you require it.”

“Should I-” Svyelun made a double take. “I am not sticking around here.”

“Does that mean the temple is not to your liking?”

Svyelun swam away without another word. Scratching his finned head, the head priest watched her leave, then turned back to stare at the ruin.

“I thought it looked all right…”

[I actually run Svyelunite Temple in one of my decks, and I never noticed it was kinda…destroyed. Also, I love the trope of gods/leaders/prominent figures being significantly more chill than their followings!]

Hey Jay. Svyelun created the Merfolk of Dominaria, while the people of Theros "created" Thassa. Comparatively, are gods not requiring devotion inherently stronger? Would Svyelun win an arm-wrestling match between them?

It's tough to compare, because on many planes gods also don't directly affect the lives of their people on a day-to-day basis the way the Theran gods do. And they all work differently.
