feel like the biggest buzzkill not liking longtail and swiftpaw being brothers, but it's just suuuuch a "oh there's no logical reason longtail would care unless he was family!" retcon to me. or a careless one. i'm a lot more interested in swiftpaw and brightheart being retconned to be cousins than i am about a forced brother relationship that does nothing but muddy up the family tree

Real talk: is Swiftpaw Tigerkin? Cause if he is..ouch. dude accidentally killed his kid. Even if he isn't did Tigerclaw care for him? Would he have been a Thistle law supporter had he survived the dog attack, do you think?

He is. Swiftpaw is his oldest child. His sister, Lynxkit, died very young. She passed away in her father's paws, and burying her was the most painful thing Tigerclaw had ever experienced.

When Swiftpaw is killed by the dogs, Tigerstar accuses ThunderClan of not protecting him and letting him die to spite him, then demands for Tawnykit and Bramblekit to be given to him. There's no evidence that he'd set up the pack at that point, and Tigerstar doesn't see Swiftpaw as "collateral."

THEY must sent him out scouting. Tigerstar doesn't take any responsibility for this.

Swiftpaw probably would have grown up to have a lot of struggles with ideology and legacy, but who knows? That chance to find out was taken from him, and from the whole world, when he was ripped apart that day.
