AKHENATEN

uhhh let's see. I combined some sketches I did of Nefertiti and Akhenaten and ended up somewhere here for an Akhenaten design. in my heart, it's for a comic but there's so much visual research I'd have to do before I could even think about approaching a comic. oof.

anyway moving on: Akhenaten was a childhood obsession! and then I moved onto other things, as one does, but then a couple months ago I decided to check out some books and now I have a headache.

well. for starters, “mesopotamia” could’ve just been a general poetic.

but also could be as simple as… he didn’t.

he has intel on her. and he’s posturing, as usual. because that’s what crowley does.

double entendres and innuendos are his weapons of choice to sow distrust, suspicion, discomfort, derision. to put you off balance, if he can. (and if that fails, he’ll switch to insults or, at worst, incessant goading.)

And the thing is… almost ALL his posturing is sexual. it’s how he wields power (from what traditionally tends to be from a weaker position)

it’s more about how he operates and fergus’s victimhood/ historical demon trauma more than it is a statement of de facto truth

he wants you to read into it

get distracted; get discomfited

just long enough to take your eye off the ball or give him the upper hand in a power struggle

btw Still thinking about the moment where Tula first realizes she's literally, mechanically unable to keep up with / catch Jaysohn when he bolts and runs his full speed. That revelation that she's not fast enough to stop him, or get alongside him, much less get in front of him to protect him if he needed it. The dread terror of it. :(

@whcwashe mentioned a couple days ago how overlooked john's artistic ability is, including the way he's able to paint sigils with such mathematical perfection (i.e. in the nbc pilot), and i just think with how bookish he is + how adept in mathematics they show him being as a kid in dead boy's heart, it would make perfect sense for him to have researched and borrowed a lot of geometric artistic techniques from leonardo da vinci to use in the more physical aspects of magic and ritual.

well we had a good decade with no surgeries but it looks like I'm gonna need my thyroid taken out sometime within the next calendar year...yay. there's also a non-zero possibility it's cancerous (biopsy pending) and I'm just. weirdly calm about that. like I am weirdly calm about the 5-15% chance I could have thyroid cancer for someone who spend most of her childhood panicking that every change in her body was secretly cancer. is this because I'm on lexapro now? because if so...points for lexapro.

sometimes i wonder if m a dnd elitist and then i remember no. i actually just enjoy a wide spread of ttrpg systems indie and mainstream. and just get very annoyed that everyone else in the world is seemingly too allergic to shopping around for systems so instead of finding an indie system that does what they want. theyll just break dnd to the point where it doesnt even resemble dnd anymore. like oh? youre playing dnd 5e but youve changed half the stat names and all basic mechanics? and the only dice you roll is d6s?? GO BUY MONSTER OF THE WEEK. THAT IS THE SYSTEM U WANNA PLAY IT ALREADY EXISTS AND IS VERY FUN. YOU CAN PLAY OTHER GAMES ITS OKAY I PROMISE

As a German I was like "YES we have good metal music!!" -bc there was a Rammstein controversay 1-2 years ago and there's so much more here!!

turns out it's not me who can give recs bc I was looking through my german music playlist and found basically zero metal songs... apparently I mostly listen to medievals shanties or clever wordplay songs in german *insert clown emoji*

but yes German can be very poetic, had to relearn that a few years ago bc of one gravitates towards english as a non-native on the internet XD (but also bc for me german songs hit even more bc it's so raw and they make me cry so easily when it's about a sad topic)
