TEN GAZILLION PONY ATTACK!!!!! this is a part 2 of my subtle animation-friendly redesigns!!! I only made changes that could have happened in the show. hair gradients can be seen in cadence, and white markings on sunburst, for example.

feel free to ask me questions about the design choices!! (just mentioning: I love the CMC's actual cutie marks, just wanted to try designing individual ones this time around!) Part 1 with the mane 6!

i think, fundamentally, seeing a lot of valenwind relegated to “crackship” is so wild after being in these trenches for almost 15 years now considering how much subtext characterization we get with cid and vincent, especially from vincent.

vincent categorically doesn’t really say a whole awful lot, and trends towards being absurdly unhelpful/cryptic in certain circumstances. he’s semi-formal, uses wry humor sparingly, clings to the fringes of the group.

it is specifically when cid is involved, multiple times in the original game, where Vincent will just randomly use a nickname for him, consistantly check in on him, outright admits to admiring him at least twice, and admits to fighting by his side because it’s all he can give. dirge (i have my dirge defence preloaded) canonizes the two of them being drinking buddies between the two year gap— a time period where vincent was actively getting into scrapes with OTHER MEMBERS of avalanche (otwtas mention, your mileage may vary).

save for the novel, all of these interactions are in the games, and are exceptional examples of the sort of way that vincent defers to teammates and communicates with others. relegating it to just the hotel scene or standing next to eachother feels fundamentally crazysauce to me. there are cathedrals everywhere for those with eyes to see or whatever

More stuff about that silly AU. I still can't get a grasp on Josh's design... Anyways, the background was supposedly going to be the first page of a comic based on this AU that I'm making but I didn't like how it turned out. Damn. I love them.

lately i've been messing with the post-processing & pointlight function in combination with ReShade... aaaannd (being the absolute sucker for ingame photography that i am) i MIIIGHT have spent hours taking cool shots of my favorite places in vinyl city for the sake of sharing 'em

the main things i utilize in these pics are the light intensity sliders ... not an expert on it yet HOWEVER it's a bit self-explanatory; by 'ingame light' it means. like. it changes the value of the actual built-in light sources as opposed to my screen's contrast & brightness etc, which is instead (part of) Reshade's job. see the 3 pictures below:

after i took these, i went into eve's bossfight expecting abooutt the same but i ended up stumbling across something pretty cool; turns out if you drag the indirect lighting towards 0 the gallery's pink-and-white walls fade to black! i don't know why it does that but i think it's really cool

then i tampered with UUU's pointlight and made my own light sources...

...turns out if you attach the light to the camera it STAYS attached throughout vanilla gameplay & cutscenes even if you toggle the freecam off. which i guess i should have expected because it's literally the same camera (just unanchored) but it still surprised me
