Completely self-indulgent design notes

...What the title says. I wanted to talk about my character designs! Although they are all meant to have a certain simplicity to them - the concept being that these people look like normal folks despite having an incredible talent - I think about them a lot, and I won’t even say everything here.

For the character’s sprites, please refer to the Wiki, because including them would make this post even longer than it already is.

Neo –

Neo is a beautiful young man with an artsy/fashionable look. The blue half of his hair was most likely destroyed with bleach, explaining its waviness, whereas his hair would naturally be curly. His current sprite does a bad job of showing that off – in other artworks, and hopefully a future version of his sprite, Neo’s natural hair is dark and curly.

With his dark eyes, long eyelashes and skinny build drowning in an oversized overshirt, Neo is meant to come across as the pretty boy Keith says he is.

Neo cares about his palette. He chose blue and stuck with it. I wonder if there was a particular reason behind it?

Akiro –

I already redrew his sprite once… but it was years ago. His haircut changed, and I love the current one to bits. It works even better for him. The main flaw with his current sprite is that his sleeves look ungodly – his t-shirt is meant to be accidentally oversized, but these just look ugly.

Akiro is adorable and discrete, but surprisingly tall for being the cute boy character. Being 176cm tall, he’s the same height as Neo, and almost the same height as Jan. He has really big eyes, partly because I drew them too big back in 2019, but in his case, it was also a conscious choice – he’s the cute character, after all.

His orange hair and green eyes are the way they are because of anime rules. In-universe, Akiro is and looks Japanese. Yes, I have thought of what he would look like in a more “realistic” setting.

Does his pocket actually have a life of its own, or am I giving it a different expression on some drawings as a joke? Someone should probably figure that out.

Oscar –

Oscar was recently redrawn, and slightly redesigned. While I liked the look of his former sprite (there was something special about his head, idk), its proportions were completely fucked up, even by Danganronpa standards. I updated his hair to look more like the way I draw him in my personal art (see here and here for example), mostly because it’s more fun to draw, and I assume it makes him more fun to look at.

Oscar’s arms are massive. Neo describes his upper body in details in Chapter 3. Though I don’t remember if that was on purpose when I drew his first version, I let him keep the slightly big ears. I wouldn’t say they should stick out a lot, but if you look at them, they’re rather large. His new design sports new small details, like some buttons and earrings, did you notice them?

Oscar’s redesign sports a black mole high on the bridge of his nose. It stands out from a mole like Isabella’s or Lois’ by its particular darkness. Is it an actual mole, or a tattoo?

By the way, you guys were NOT supposed to be this horny for him.

Ciel –

My favourite clown. His sprite was revamped at some point, and I’m very happy with it. Ciel is very pale, with naturally crazy hair (à la Komaeda? In truth, the shape of his hair was first inspired by Taichi Fujisaki). He is meant to have a youthful appearance, just to look his age.

As ends up being described in the story (was it Chapter 2 or 3?), his t-shirt is meant to fit perfectly around his shoulders, so as to not hinder his movements despite its large collar. Two black sleeves stand out from underneath it, perhaps from a tank top (…).

The trousers Ciel wears, of course not visible on his halfbody sprite, are very big biker jeans. They look completely out of place with his delicate teal top.

Being 166cm tall, Ciel is the shortest Guy™ in the cast by a long shot, second to Keith, who is practically the same height as Neo.

Mina –

I swear I will revamp her sprite one day, and she will have ears.

Mina is not just small – everything about her appearance makes her look like an adorable little girl. No one would even dare to assume she’s a teenager. The pigtails certainly don’t help, and one should wonder why she would do her hair this way if she wishes to be taken seriously.

I have been told in the past that her uniform makes her look even more like a schoolgirl. That wasn’t exactly my intent, however. I think that if you imagined an adult woman wearing the exact same outfit, she could come across as a prettily dressed detective. I think her main illustration, if I ever draw it, should show her in the same outfit but with some accessories to show off how it all comes together.

Emily –

Emily’s sprite is one of the few from my first, very old batch, that I still like today. She’s so cute.

Emily is the Ultimate Fashionista, which I must insist doesn’t mean “gyaru”. She’s one of those USians. When it comes to her style, however, I just threw a bunch of stuff at random that I thought seemed fashionable in 2017/2018 when I designed her, and with no knowledge of fashion whatsoever. Her palette, mostly, was an odd choice, but… I guess it’s what makes her iconic. Since Murder Fabrication takes place in the future, I can come up with whatever I’d like.

A redesign of Emily would most likely keep her outfit the same, but add more visible make-up – although in Chapter 3, Isabella implies that simple make-up looks are in fashion.

Emily is meant to be a beauty with a cute face and a cute voice.

Benjamin –

When I drew Benjamin’s first sprite, it wasn’t obvious that he was pretty. I clearly fixed that since... Though jokes aside, that is of course subjective and I just happen to have very specific biases.

When it comes to Ben, there’s no “I realised his outfit was ugly so I decided I would make a joke out of it”. It was always meant to be impractical and cheap looking. By the way, I recently made him a few centimetres taller to accentuate his towering over the cast, even by a bit, at a whopping 184cm when the other Guys™ are more so in the 175cm range. Ciel refers to him as a giant at least once.

Ben’s hair is meant to count as dark, or black hair in-universe, unlike other characters who have fantasy or fake hair colours. Ben is Chinese-American and meant to look the part.

Chloe –

So, Chloe… she has “dark skin”, for being mostly white. Though she may have mixed origins, she is meant to pass as white, with tan skin due to spending a lot of time under the sun.

At least that’s where I stand on her backstory right now. I fully admit that my design and shading choices for her came from being inexperienced back then.

I’m still on the fence on whether I want to keep what she’s wearing a dress, or turn it into a simple apron – I can see her wearing shorts underneath. But I also like the dress idea. I need to think about it hard.

Ultimately, Chloe is meant to have an innocent look.

Andi –

I don’t know that I have much to say about Andi’s design. It’s meant to be simple, yet fashionable. In an immortal look kind of way. As is clearly revealed at some point in the story, she dyes her hair.

Not too unlike Emily, Andi is meant to have the looks of a beautiful young woman, although I wouldn’t describe her face as cute – you know, that savage-looking little girl with a loud personality, messy hair, scratches all over and a sense for adventure?

Finally, her palette looks familiar, doesn’t it?

Chris –

It’s surprising that her first sprite didn’t sport muscles. It mostly comes down to me not really realising that one could draw them back then. As the Ultimate Gymnast, Chris is strong from practicing regularly.

If I redrew her sprite again, I would probably rework the way her hair frames her head. Other than that, Chris is well-endowed for being so muscular (à la Hermes Costello, except… does Chris seem like someone who would go under the knife for this?) and has intimidating eyes.

Isabella –

Isabella looks and sounds soft, in an almost sleepy way. Like that girl at the Eurovision 2021 who came onstage wearing PJs and looked like she was about to fall asleep the entire night. Isabella wears a lot of make-up, and Neo eventually points out, when he sees her without it, that she looks very different.

Contrary to Benjamin’s clothes, her simple make-up look was a rookie mistake which I decided to turn into a thing (as she states in Chapter 3), just because I could.

Despite her pastel clothes (which I might edit to look even more pastel someday) and soft look, Isabella is a tall, imposing woman, with even more imposing twin tails. Those are of course reminiscent of a certain Danganronpa character, and not by accident.

Jan –

I’m not happy with his recent sprite – Jan is meant to be very good looking. I have immense Jan brainrot and could probably write an entire novel of design notes for him. With his athletic build and calm composure, he may come off as slightly older than he is, though not by a long shot.

His hair is naturally platinum blonde. I wish it looked obviously fluffier, but Jan admittedly puts effort into keeping it tame – admitting it some fluff, a brilliant coiffé-décoiffé, at least it’s meant to be this way in-universe.

I hate his uniform for being so boring, but it’s meant to be this way. Jan is stuck here wearing a boring, very formal school uniform. It’s also meant to hide a certain small detail, which gets revealed at some point in the story.

Jan wears a single earring on his right ear, and no, I don’t want to hear it. As for his face, it’s very delicate, almost feminine – but with a distinctively masculine shape, he comes off as a very pretty boy indeed.

One last thing I’ll note… while Jan has the smaller eyes usually given to masculine characters in Danganronpa, doesn’t something about them look different from Benjamin’s or Oscar’s? Even Neo’s or Keith’s, if you look attentively?

Keith –

Speaking of. Keith’s new sprite isn’t my favourite sprite, but does a much better choice of showing off what he’s meant to look like. Despite his own claims, Keith is one of the pretty boys himself – I’m very particular about the shape of his eyes, which I find very pretty on top of being cute.

As for his hair, it’s meant to be an absolute mess. An absolutely horrendous haircut. I don’t know how I even failed to portray that the first time. All it’s good for is making him one of the only characters with an ahoge (along with Akiro and Jan).

Much like Jan, Keith is wearing his uniform, though it has arguably a little more personality. Besides, Keith’s difference with Jan is that he would dress like absolute garbage otherwise – what, did you really expect any different? With his choppy hair and depressed attitude?

Noah –

While Noah is stereotypically attractive due to his muscular build, his face is truly meant to be incredibly cutesy. I would like it to stand out from Akiro in the way that Akiro looks like a cute guy, and Noah looks almost childish. It clashes with his body and talent.

Much like Keith’s, if not worse, Noah’s hair is meant to be an overgrown mess. As is soon revealed, his thick fringe is no accident. His hair hides even his left ear.

I have no idea why I gave him an eyebrow slit, LOL.

His first design was mostly green because haha, Soldier, I guess. However, his palette changed because not only is he off-duty, but also because “I can see her sad song shining, and everything around her turns to gold”.

Alice –

Ugh I love her and I’m happy I designed her hair at a time when I was the type of inexperienced that took more risks. That being said her skin is almost exactly #FFFFFF and… I guess it’s too iconic not to stay now.

I still like her sprite, much like Emily’s, though if I redrew it today I would make her freckles look more natural and accentuate her thin build.

She’s really not heavy, after all.

I don’t know what else to say about her. She’s dressed to trek. I think she’s pretty. Oh, right – on the very day that I wrote her physical description (at work…), my mom took me to a store to buy the EXACT shoes I’d created for Alice. A complete coincidence. These are still my trekking shoes… I have three Siberian huskies who like pooping in grass.

Lois –

Ah, Lois, the love of Neo’s life… or probably not. Regardless, his assessment of her is meant to be correct – she is supposed to be a kind of beautiful mostly different from the other women of the cast, mostly because of her mature looks.

Now, there’s something about her palette, but…

Anyway, Lois is the second shortest character, being 163cm tall. This isn’t much shorter than the other women of the cast, but I have been told that it makes it even funnier that Neo is so intimidated by her. I also enjoyed having her become Ben’s friend… not too unlike the way Mina and Oscar are friends. Well, I wonder if Ben and Lois see each other as friends…

Although it was not my first idea, it makes the most sense for Lois to be rather thin. That being said, she has different proportions from a skinny queen like Alice.

So December 31st was Taichi's birthday!

And for the occasion, I went ahead with the concept of Taichi's second era redesign with the help of Grace

Having taken Naoki's "stop copying me" to heart, he tried to make his own self-image. Instead of trying to be a goofball, he tries to act like a badass and slick. He still has the status of comic relief since he tries too hard looking cool and he still has flatulence problems, but he's trying.

I’ve gotten a couple of comments on a shitpost of mine about Au Lait, where I rip on Taichi’s outfit. So I’m gonna take the shitpost seriously for a minute. Keep in mind, the age of majority in Japan is 20. Every single person in this series is underage. Also keep in mind that Mew Mew Power is the name of the dub. As far as I know, the Japanese version did not alter the girls’ ages at all. If you notice, 2020 Re-Turn’s redesigns added more fabric to every girl’s outfit (even if it’s only lace, like in Zakuro and Retasu’s). Purin’s dress is a little longer than her bodysuit, Minto’s is longer than her OG dress, and even Ringo (who only appeared in a drawing by Mia Ikumi) got extra fabric covering her chest. Bows were placed to cover the large areas of open space on the girls’ chests. Look at the boys’ outfits. Every single one of them has an exposed midriff (minus Ayato), which is “fine” (not really, but y’know) because they’re boys and 17, older than Zakuro was with her midriff. Curiously, the oldest boy is wearing the most clothes, as is honorary Mew Mew Anzu, who hasn’t been shown out of her school uniform. I included her as a contrast to the boys, who have been highly sexualized. Taichi is wearing the absolute least amount of clothing, in bloomers, a very tiny midriff crop top (it’s shorter than the other boys’), and detached sleeves. I actually think his outfit is a tribute to Zakuro’s, with sleeves added because I’m pretty sure Zakuro’s outfit on a 14 year old wouldn’t fly today. But it super bothers me that Taichi is the least covered of all the boys and he’s also the youngest. Yes, the magical girl (and now magical boy) genre has a problem with the sexualization of children. Look at Sailor Moon, who popularized it - every single one of those girls wears a skirt that barely covers her ass. (And I say this as an avid Sailor Moon fan.) Hell, even the OG TMM had several art book pictures in provocative poses and skimpy clothing. To be fair, it seems that the magical girls/boys are treated much the same way fledging actresses are in Japan. Many (last I heard was close 80%) are doing grauvre work to break into the industry as young as 12. This post isn’t intended to attack Tokyo Mew Mew or Au Lait. I enjoy the series as a whole, was ridiculously excited for the magical boy reboot, and have never had a serious problem with their costuming. I made a single shitpost about Taichi’s reveal (using the exact picture of him I’ve put here) and literally only two people commented “oh I guess you aren’t familiar with the OG series” and it annoyed me. If you want to take a shitpost seriously, I’ll do that, but I don’t especially want to because it means breaking down the series (and every magical girl series, tbh) into exactly why it’s problematic, the changing attitudes towards what is and isn’t okay and what was and is no longer okay, and the sexualization of children. And nobody really wants to trash their treasured series over a shitpost. This post is just a side by side comparison of every single Mew outfit (plus Anzu), in an attempt to justify the original shitpost’s statement that Taichi is both scantily-clad and young, and it makes me uncomfortable. At least Purin got a bodysuit.

Part 2 of Fizz Watches Digimon Adventure 2020 And Dramatically Dies. I forgot to mention that I adore these little throwbacks:

Taichi’s Kouichi-impersonation fortunately lands him in the digital network without also sending him into coma, thereby proving Adventure kids are made of sterner stuff than Frontier kids. (Kidding! Put down those pitchforks!)

These new Digivices look like Apple redesigned the 90s one. I approve.

Before glitching out, Taichi heard Koromon screaming his name.

This scene is so dramatic and yet it’s still a pink tsum-tsum who can’t afford dental care hurtling through the air... Digimon man.

This is clearly a soccer tackle and yet he’s using his hands. Does he play GK in this universe?

All it appears to take is being touched by Taichi for Koromon to evolve. He still knows who Taichi is! Although he’s distracted before he can explain anything. If he’s even planning to explain, I mean, he’s Agumon. It’s not that he’s trying to be all mysterious, he’s just too busy thinking about food.

He calls Taichi through his digivice, which is good, because Taichi doesn’t have a clue.

He does, however, have gloves, which he puts on before jumping in to help Agumon beat up the virus Digimon currently attacking them. (To everyone who says Masaru’s the only one who does that, it’s not and has never been true!)

Once again... if even Taichi is this conscientious about keeping Digi-germs off his bare skin, what do we even need Jou for!

DJ Wiseman Koushirou is able to divine that the train Taichi’s mom and sister are on is on a collision course. Taichi asks the only reasonable question:

You will be asking this often for the rest of your life, Taichi my boy.

Koushirou is able to lead them in the right direction. Taichi and Agumon proceed to immediately get their butts kicked.

Well that didn’t take long.

Why is Agumon’s head so big...

Then it happens... EVOLUUUUTIONNNN!!

I am so here for freaky stuff like this. Creepy music too. ooooooh

It looks like one of those cubic monsters from Yugioh Dark Side of Dimensions

Agumon... is able to evolve to Greymon! As you might have guessed, this episode moves really fast! I am choosing to look the other way on that because it’s a first episode. Go big or go home!

Greymon beats the baddie in a surprisingly quiet battle scene. I know Japan doesn’t have the American obsession with NON-STOP TALKING, but I was reminded more of the long silences in Tri than anything else.

Better get used to saying that, Taichi. That’s right. Bow to your new god, DJ Wiseman Izumi Koushirou.

So now Taichi comes back to the real world and... whoops no he doesn’t! He’s still there, because...

FREAKING AMERICA AGAIN, CAN’T LEAVE THOSE GUYS ALONE FOR A SECOND WITHOUT SOMEBODY HACKING THEM AND STEALING THEIR MISSILES

It’s literally called “War Game” I THINK WE ALL KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS

I hope you all understand what’s happening here. I am not joking when I say Koushirou is now Taichi’s god. Koushirou holds the knowledge, the power, the access. Taichi has shown himself very willing to go along with the voices in his head, so I assume he’ll make a model acolyte.

Yamato appears in the ep for 2 secs but he’ll be in the next one in all his purple awesomeness. I am amused by the ED.

Taichi, standing in the sun... the glare so blinding that Yamato has to shield his eyes from his glory

‘Here comes the sun, doo doo doo doo, here comes the sun, I say, it’s alright...’

Verdict: Loved it. Yes it’s a kid’s show, yes it moved fast, everyone knew too much and did too much... whatever, it was fun. I’m so excited for this series >D My kids are back! (Again!)

Looking at the key visual they revealed, the characters and Digimon look almost identical to the first series, to the point that it would make you think that it's a remake.

Adventure Rewrite Idea Dump (Again)

Listen I want to talk about my OCs but I don’t have the energy to actually write right now since I feel like literal ass so it’s random fact time! Warning: random mashing of English and Japanese names for Digimon ahead.

First off, I’m planning on giving one Armor evolution to all of the kids. Regardless of Adventure or 02 affiliation, all of them are getting one Armor evolution. Only Pegasmon and Nefertimon are staying the same while all the others get reworked/redesigned or new stuff entirely. The 02 kids get Armors first while the Adventure kids are later on.

Also, there aren’t going to be any D3′s needed to open the gate between the worlds. All of the kids are going to have the same original model Digivice from Adventure. For colors at higher levels of evolution on the others it’ll go as follows: Daisuke - Gold, Miyako - Turquoise, Iori - White, Ken - Black, Meiko - Magenta.

Everyone is going to get to have a Jogress partner, but not in the same way that 02 used them. Instead, it’ll be more like Omnimon: an evolution that takes place after the highest level is obtained. Pairs will go as follows: Taichi/Yamato, Sora/Mimi, Koshiro/Jou, Daisuke/Ken, Miyako/Hikari, Iori/Takeru.

As of now, my plan for evolution is going to have Agumon and Gabumon go Mega in the original Adventure while Omnimon shows up during Our War Game. Veemon and Wormmon will go Mega in 02 and Jogress during Revenge of Diaboromon. All other Megas will appear during the first half Tri (which will be rewritten entirely to include the 02 kids) while the second half has the remaining four Jogress pairs.

Since Jogress is being handled differently, the 02 partners get to go all the way to Mega on their own. The evolution lines are below: Veemon - ExVeemon - Paildramon - Magnamon Hawkmon - Aquilamon - Silphymon - Valkyrimon Armadillomon - Ankylomon - ??? - ??? Wormmon - Stingmon - JewelBeemon - GrandisKuwagamon

The only Jogress evolution that will remain from canon is Imperialdramon. The others will be redesigned entirely due to either not fitting as much (Shakkoumon) or being used already (Silphymon). As for Armadillomon’s evolutions, I’m going to have to design those myself. No matter how much I search, there’s never anything that properly fits in with the theme of Ankylomon, so I’ll just make up mons myself. Fight me on it.

For the 02 kids, they have the Crests of Loyalty, Passion, Integrity, and Kindness for Daisuke, Miyako, Iori, and Ken respectively. Meiko will also get a Crest, though Meicoomon is special in the way that she has no Jogress partner and will act on her own. In fact, Meicoomon is being handled completely differently than in canon and is not used as a villain because I said so. Tri is being handled completely differently, so nearly everything about the plot is different now. Again, fight me.

Hurricane Landing is going to be reworked so that it fits into canon. In it, Willis is not going to be designated specifically as a Chosen Child. Instead, he found Gummymon and Kokomon by pure accident, and they bonded to him on their own. Humans naturally have the power to make Digimon evolve at an advanced speed; a Digivice simply refines that power and makes it less unpredictable. Willis is partnered to them in a unique way since has no Digivice but is still able to make them evolve pretty reliably.

On a similar note, I’m not using the international Chosen. I was never the biggest fan of them, so I’m just cutting them out. I’ll handle things differently during the World Tour segment (assuming it even remains in the final draft) to compensate.

Mimi won’t be moving away to America either. I feel like it would be best for the sake of the plot if I kept her in Japan, so she’s sticking around there with the rest of the squad.

I mentioned before that Tri is getting a complete overhaul, right? The first step is axing King Drasil. Yeah. Oops. Instead, I’m going to create a much more direct rival to Homeostasis. For now, let’s call them Havoc (which is a placeholder in case I wind up coming up with something better).

Havoc existed in the times before Homeostasis was created. In between the birth of the Digital World and the arrival of the Harmonious Ones, Havoc seemed to rule over the Digital World from afar. They created Apocalymon as a way of manifesting their chaotic whims, causing a reign of terror over the Digital World. In an unprecedented course of events, Apocalymon caused a severe distortion in the Digital World that caused time to flow faster than on Earth. Apocalymon’s existence caused a rift between the Digital World and Earth as well, and that portal pulled in the original group of six kids in 1980 (Daigo, Maki, Hiroaki, Haruhiko, Kaya, and Chisane). Their partners eventually evolved to become the Harmonious Ones, and they sealed away Apocalymon in the process, though time remained sped up. Homeostasis was born as a result of the Harmonious Ones coming to existence.

Havoc was mostly left to linger in the shadows, forced back by the arrival of Homeostasis. The Order led by Homeostasis developed Digivices and Crests for twelve children based on manifestations from the original six. Another distortion caused by an escape attempt from Apocalymon opened a gate to Earth where the Greymon and Parrotmon fight took place in 1995. That selected eight of the twelve children, and when disaster struck and the Order was destroyed, the eight were called upon, prompting the events of Adventure to play out.

During the attack by Myotismon in 1999, Daisuke, Iori, and Ken all witnessed events related to the Digital World. While they were not the only witnesses of these events, they caught Homeostasis’ eye for fitting three of the four traits. This left only Passion lacking in a host, though it found one when Miyako watched the fight between Omnimon and Diaboromon the following year, making her the final child of the group to be Chosen.

Meiko was not a Chosen under Homeostasis. Instead, Havoc was the one who selected her. After the fall of Apocalymon, Havoc tried to concoct a further plan to usurp Homeostasis and take over the Digital World, and they created Meicoomon. By imitating the power of the Digivices seen up to that point (which was only known to evolve Digimon up to Mega), Havoc created another Digivice, the one that would later come to be used by Meiko. Since Armor and Jogress capabilities hadn’t been seen yet, her echo of a Digivice lacked both of those powers. She was given the Crest of Darkness, and Havoc planned for Meicoomon to evolve into another world-breaking monster on par with Apocalymon. During the events of this AU’s version of Tri, Meiko purifies the Crest into the Crest of Balance, and Meicoomon doesn’t slip into her destructive ways, instead finding a place as Rasielmon.

As for the original Chosen, they split up after their original adventure. Hiroaki and Haruhiko grew distant from the rest of the group while Daigo and Maki went on to attend school together. Kaya and Chisane (both of whom are my OCs; fight me if that’s a problem okay) became romantic partners. All of them went on to live regular lives, most of them in the Odaiba area. Kaya and Chisane moved out to Tottori while the others stayed in Odaiba. When Digimon started to rise to prominence after the 1999 war with Myotismon, Daigo, Maki, and Haruhiko came to work together as Digimon researchers. Hiroaki remained on his own since he had other work at the TV station.

As for Kaya and Chisane, they established a small restaurant in Tottori. They left Odaiba without a word once they were old enough, tying the knot and living alone while owning and running their cafe. Chisane couldn’t stand the city life due to the noise and crowds, and Kaya wanted to follow her. They avoided much of busy life, staying away from any incidents involving Digimon despite wishing to see their partners once again.

All Crest bearers are sensitive to influence from Homeostasis, but their connection is on the lower side. Hope and Light are easily most connected due to their angelic links, though Light’s link is the strongest. Keepers of the Crest of Light can communicate with Homeostasis easily while bearers of Hope can still do it but are harder to contact. All of them are also sensitive to the balance of other worlds, but again, Hope and Light are most affected.

Since Chisane was the original bearer of Hope and Light (all the original six kids had two Crests), her connection is so heavy that it borders on being dangerous. Being near so many Digital Gates in Odaiba can cause sickness for her at times since she has a lacking constitution and immune system. When the worlds are unbalanced, it has a horrible impact on her. To avoid any unnecessary sickness, Kaya moved with her out to Tottori where there were fewer gates. They moved not long after the Parrotmon/Greymon duel in 1995 since the sudden outburst by Apocalymon’s escape attempt sickened Chisane immediately. The destabilization of the worlds always harmed her, but that was the most prominent example of imbalance at the time, causing terrible harm.

While the two mostly kept to themselves, Chisane was still vulnerable to being contacted by Homeostasis. She seems to speak to herself somewhat often, though this is more often than not Homeostasis asking for permission to borrow her body and mind. It was through her that Homeostasis learned more about how things were on Earth from the Digital World.

When the Mochizuki family moved in near them, Chisane and Kaya took to avoiding them. Chisane was fine with Meiko at first, but when Havoc placed the Crest of Darkness inside her, being around Meiko for too long began to make her feel nauseous after prolonged contact. Kaya grows incredibly protective of Chisane when Meiko is nearby, coming off as hostile due to her blunt nature.

The Digital World was created as a mix of three things: digital networks on Earth, the world of dreams shown at the end of 02 (one where everything is possible), and the Dark Ocean. The second of these two worlds is called the Dream Light. When all three of these lands came together, they spawned the Digital World. From there, lifeforms from all three lands were combined to create Digimon. Havoc emerged naturally, starting off as a virus program from Earth before mutating into something much larger and worse.

Upgraded Armor Form [concept]

Also briefly mentioned in this post and in the profiles for Fauermon & DrillDigmon, this is another thing from the half-abandoned project Hinode.

First of all: Those are not actual “evolution” but more like “upgrades” of them. I will explain this concept in this post.

Like mentioned before, when I first designed Burning Fladramon in 2011-2012 (the one depicted here is a redesign from 2017) it was for another abandoned project in which Daisuke & V-mon would become the “mid series” party member. Daisuke’s digivice would be destroyed and he would get the new group of kids’ digivice, and with this V-mon’s forms would get an upgrade. Think about the variations between Taichi’s Greymon, Masaru’s GeoGreymon and Kiriha’s Greymon, please. Yes, they were supposed to become new subspecies like the mentioned Greymons here.

Since I tend to recycle ideas when i drop something, I brought this concept to Hinode project. All 02 group armor digimon would get said upgrades via their crests’ rune fragments, which would also include the 02 trio. So, Daisuke got Determination, Iori got Fairness and Miyako got Energy. said crests would boost their armor digimon and then unlock cool new versions of them. But the problem was Submarimon and my ideas to turn him into a big ship for travelling purposes actually. Also, I never designed a form for Pegasusmon if I remember correctly.

This is were the Digimental Weapons came in. But that’s already explained. Let’s get back to the Upgraded Armor Evolution.

The Upgrade form can change drastically an armor digimon’s shape, turning a quadrupedal into a bipedal and vice-versa, change its characteristics and turning into something different (like, a bug to a rhino) or simply its entire armor getting altered (like BurningFladramon’s). Since armor digimon does not really need to look like a digimon wearing an armor, the Upgrades on an armor digimon also does not require them to look like a digimon in armor or keep its original shape and color.

Said upgrades have their own specific abilities, or just improved abilities from their regular/normal form. For example, Knuckle Heat is an upgraded version of Knuckle Fire. But Drill Tornado is a brand new technique for this upgraded form.

The Upgraded Form does not alter the digimon’s level either. An Armor digimon is always an Armor level and said Upgrade form won’t change it. It’s kinda like the “Mode Change” tbh, but does not come with the “Mode” in their names and have their alterations in their names. Also, this is Armor digimon exclusive, via the power of rune fragments.

Its power is unique and temporary which it is only unlocked via sync with your human partner. Which means, once a digimon and a human get in sync with each other, they might unlock this special power form.

That said, here’s a brief description of them.

BurningFladramon - Fladramon’s upgraded version with the Rune Fragment of Determination

(this name is not a reference to Frontier’s dub name for Aldamon)

Attacks:

Knukle Heart - A constant blaze of fire. It can also emit heat waves from his fists. (upgraded form of Knuckle Fire)

Nova Rocket - Covers himself with a fire aura and releases it against the enemy. Said aura can be also used as shield, but is ineffective against water attacks. (upgraded form of Fire Rocket)

Fauermon – Horusmon’s upgraded version with the Rune Fragment of Energy

Fau = Bird in Hymmnos

Attacks:

Red Sunburst - invokes a red spear above the Horus’ Rod and releases a laser beam from it. (upgraded version of Red Sun)

Wing Blast - generates a strong airflow with his wings, able to send enemies away. (upgraded version of Tempest Wing)

Udjat Gaze - uses hypnosis to stunt or control enemies.

DrillDigmon – Digmon’s upgraded version with the Rune Fragment of Fairness/Justice

Attacks:

Silver Missiles - shoots drill missiles from the compartments in his arms.

Driller Paw - attacks with the drills from his paws.

Drill Tornado - spins all the drills in his paw to create a powerful tornado.
