It was a #gamechanger in my stage presence & music career...I won't ever forget how @georges_elchakieh @elliveproductions drilled @ericarrlos & I on & off stage whilst in Oman to bring out the magic of our performance. He has a saying, "if you're not sweating, you're not working hard enough". #truestory & I live by this! I'm forever grateful of the beast he edged me to become. Thank you G 🙌🏼 And then...this happened...our band smashed it out the park at our next destination & we won an award for our hard work (that's also when @marydeemusic joined the company & added her flair). Instead of lecturing you, think about this...How #hungry are you to become #recognised worldwide as a highly respected artist for your works? How much do you really value your #worth in the music world? Is this your #career for life or a hobby? Is boozing & drugging more important than performing/recording sober & clean? The grass can be greener on the other side if you're willing to garden it. Create a platform, plant the seeds, water, nourish, grow & maintain. I knew it would be one of my biggest career risks uprooting my life to move back to my home country when I'd had zero career there; no one knew who I was, let alone where I'd been all this time. It was a HUGE step & it all fell into place because I worked day & night at it. I didn't have a family fund to create a record or any record label advances - I worked 24/7 & put all my earnings into creating an album to shop to labels back home. From Dec 2012-May 2013 I put my all into creating a world back in South Africa. I knew it was time to try & I knew it would not be easy. But I was fearless & passionate that this could be something worthwhile. The main reason behind this is my songwriting; inevitably it's my driving force. Of course I love performance but songwriting is everything 🙌🏼 Within 3 years of moving back to South Africa I performed nationally for @barnyardtheatres @thegrandwhite @tsogosun @suncityresortsa including corporates for my amazing agents @smashingpromo @fluid_media 💃🏼 During this time I produced an all-female theatre extravaganza with an aerial show #GoldinDivas which ran for 4 months in Pretoria. I released my 2nd album with a published book titled #WhoAreYouAgain launched at @skoobstob & the biggie was signing to a label & releasing songs #MyFire #ReallyDoesntMatter which are played nationwide on radio with music video aired on @sabc3 ❤️By December 2015 I was named 2nd top emerging artist & by 2016 #ThisIsMyFire was the 2nd most played song @hot919fm 🔥⚡️💥Not stopping here September 2016 toured Cape Town showcasing a new album of songs including my current ones. After 6 months in Beijing our band headed to Abu Dhabi as resident band at @hiltonabudhabi #JazzBar which was another gig for the books 🙌🏼 I loved living in the UAE so much that I decided to go freelance & live there for another couple of years as resident singer for @madinatjumeirah #MinaASalam #BahriBar @ritzcarlton #Sorso #AbuDhabi plus various songwriting showcases & corporate gigs @tasteofdubai @meydanracing :> In this time I met some of my favourite people that I'd give my left pinky too if need be 😬 It's important to remember that we work more hours than we play & the people we're surrounded by are the ones who are either going to crush us out of negativity or empower with positivity...you really can change up the scenery to become a more advanced & improved human being...& that's all part of #TamingMusicians to aid them in using their music-powers properly & with the right team who genuinely believe & support them. One of those people is @ddscott15 @offbroadwayentertainment who took me under his wing & booked me for every event under the sun that he could find. Most of the time I'm away from home, whether on tour or in the studio. So it's natural to feel homesick at times. My favourite hideaway was a tiny venue run by one of the most beautiful souls I have ever met, Pilar Itaka. We were musicians from all over the world and it was our time to be ourselves and share our passions. Chatting and laughing into the early hours of the morning, letting the high of performance fizzle out. Leaving around 7am to face the sun rising was our favourite time of day. Pilar looked after us like we were her kids. I miss her so much! Such a beautiful lady and voice :> It's a real high performing on stage, so take a good amount of time to wind down and breathe whilst touring. In London I was part of a couple of projects; showcasing singer-songwriters at the 15-Minute Club and finding young talented singer-songwriters to work with producers from a company called Baby Girl Music. It is natural for me to want to give advice, as I so received from my peers. There are no books to teach you the things we learn as musicians on stage and through releasing music. It is hard work trying to figure out the best way to do things on your own, all the time. For me to #payitforward was heart-warming.
