Free Philip Vance
Philip Vance has been imprisoned on a life sentence since 2004 for a 2002 murder he did not commit.
There was no physical evidence of guilt, only false jailhouse witness testimonies, bribed and coerced by cops to testify against him. Nearly all have recanted. The evidence of his innocence is ample, and the Minnesota Gang Strike Force that implicated Philip was disbanded in 2010 after found to be riddled with corruption, withholding evidence, and securing convictions through false testimony. Yet Philip Vance remains imprisoned.
On September 3rd, 2023, he lead 130 others in protesting the cruel and inhumane conditions at the Stillwater prison, including continuous lockdowns. The men were housed in B-East work industry jobs and had labored all week. Ordered to lock down in sweltering cells, yet again, without showers, clean water, ice, recreational time, or access to their families, the courageous men in Philip’s unit refused. Instead of returning to their cells, they stayed in the common areas, some playing cards and others socializing.
Since then, Philip Vance has been locked in solitary for 23 hours a day, no yard time, limited communication. His mind is starting to play tricks on him. They intend to keep him there for 180 days.
Join us in demanding all men targeted for the September 3rd action be immediately released from solitary, as Philip courageously continues his push for justice. Their loved ones and community need this to happen quickly.

Dear Paul Schnell, Et Al:
I’m writing regarding Mr. Philip Vance (OID 215517).
Mr. Vance IS INNOCENT and was wrongfully incarcerated 20 years ago and he maintains his innocence yet continues to be ignored and mistreated by the Mn system daily. He is housed at your Stillwater Prison facility in Bayport MN.
YOU said publicly that Mr. Vance was part of a "peaceful protest." Yet, Vance has been given 180 days in solitary confinement! A timeline in excess of the statue 641.09. The irreparable damages caused by long term solitary confinement are unjustifiable, and have led the United Nations to consider solitary TORTURE when used for longer than 15 consecutive days.

I want to put down all the references in the Worst Generation (excluding the Straw Hats and Blackbeard) and the named members of their crews. I'm getting my information from the wiki and adding my own theories/comments where necessary. Ever since I read JoJo, I love finding references in manga.
Fire Tank Pirates
Capone Bege: His surname is obviously taken from Al Capone (whom he also shares his birthday with) and his given name is based on the English privateer William le Sauvage. Him being stated to cut animals' heads off is a nod to the horse head scene from The Godfather.
Vito: His name seems to be taken from Vito "Don Vito" Genovese, a mobster/crime boss from Al Capone's era, and the first name of Don Corleone from The Godfather.
Gotti: He seems to be named after John Gotti, a mobster who ran the Gambino crime family in the 80s (He was nicknamed 'the Telfon Don' due to him facing three trials and being acquitted every time -- the results were caused by jury tampering and witness intimidation-- before being finally sent to prison in 1992).
Chiffon: She's named after chiffon cake, which she also specializes in making.
Pez: His name is the Spanish word for fish, as well as a nod to the candy brand, keeping with the Charlotte Family naming theme.
Bonney Pirates
Jewelry Bonney: Her name is taken from the 18th-century Anne Bonney, who, like Bonney herself, was a noble turned pirate.
Hawkins Pirates
Basil Hawkins: His surname is taken from 17th-century English pirate Basil Ringosel and his given name from 16th-century pirate/privateer John Hawkins. Hawkins is also the name of the protagonist of the 1883 adventure novel Treasure Island (which had a massive impact on the depiction of pirates in popular culture) by Robert Louis Stevenson, who also wrote The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Visually, his design is based off of Joey Jordison of Slipknot.
Faust: He's named after the legendary character Faust, who sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for knowledge and worldly pleasures. The story was most famously told by 15th-century playwright Christopher Marlowe in The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus and by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in Faust.
On Air Pirates
Scratchman Apoo: His surname seems to be based on the practice of "scratching" records when DJing, tying into his association with music. His first name is taken from the Qing dynasty pirate Chui A-poo.
Kid Pirates
Eustass Kid: He's named after the 13th-century pirate and mercenary Eustace the Monk and the 17th-century Scottish (which Kid would be if he existed in the real world) pirate William Kidd, who was also called "Captain."
Kid's Attacks: I decided this needed its own entry. Punk Gibson (Kid's giant arm) -- Named after the US guitar manufacturer Gibson. Punk Rotten (the giant scrap metal head and arms) -- Named after Johnny Rotten, the name John Lyndon used when he was the frontman of the influential punk band Sex Pistols. Punk Vise (Crushing a target with Punk Rotten's hands) -- As "vice" and "vise" are spelled the same way in katakana, this attack might be named after the British punk rock band Vice Squad. Punk Pistols (a harpoon gun made out of metal pieces that acts like a Gatling gun) -- Named after Sex Pistols. Punk Corna Dio (the giant bull he used to attack Big Mom) -- Corna is Italian for horns, alluding to the sign of the horns in heavy metal, while Dio references Ronnie James Dio, who was very big in that genre; no, I'm not making the obvious joke. Damned Punk (the giant railgun he used to blast Big Mom off Onigashima) -- Probably named after the British punk rock band The Damned. Punk Clash (after magnetizing someone with his Awakened Devil Fruit, they attract very large and pointy metal pieces) -- Named after the British punk band The Clash.
Killer: His laugh alludes to the song 'Psycho Killer' by the New Wave band the Talking Heads, as the chorus is the same ("fa fa fa fa fa"). The song might be the source of his name. His helmet strongly resembles that of Daft Punk member Guy-Manual de Homem-Christo.
Heat: He's likely named after the experimental rock band This Heat.
Wire: He might be named after the English rock band Wire.
Gig: In keeping with the Kid Pirates' music-related theme naming, a gig is slang for a live show.
Dive: She's likely named after stage-diving, a common practice among musicians and their fans.
UK: His name may come from the UK, where many classic punk bands originated from (ie, the Clash, Sex Pistols). Alternately, he might be named after the Sex Pistols' song 'Anarchy in the UK.'
Pomp: He's likely named after pomp rock, more commonly known as arena rock (examples of bands known for arena rock: Styx, Toto, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Boston).
Bubblegum: His name seems to be a reference to bubblegum music (rock and pop in a catchy and upbeat style marketed toward children), which influenced punk rock, new wave, and melodic metal.
Reck: He's named after the bassist of the Japanese punk rock band Friction.
House: She's named after the electronic music subgenre house music.
Boogie: He's probably named after the electronic club music subgenre called boogie.
Mosh: He's likely named after moshing, a rather violent form of dancing. Appropriate for a member of a crew known for their violence.
Hip: She's named after hip-hop.
Papas: He's named after the folk rock group The Mamas & the Papas, the indie rock band Papas Fritas, or both.
Jaguar: He's likely named after the Fender Jaguar electric guitar. Alternately, his name could come from Mick Jagger's last name, as "Jagger" and "Jaguar" are spelled the same way in katakana.
Quincy: Her name likely comes from the producer and musician Quincy Jones, who produced Michael Jackson's albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad, and has 80 Grammy Award nominations and 28 Grammys.
Hop: She's named after hip-hop.
Compo: He might be named after an abbreviation of 'musical composition.'
Disc J: His name pretty clearly comes from disc jockey, more commonly known as DJ.
Fallen Monk Pirates
Urouge: He's named after the 16th-century Ottoman Pirate Oruc Reis. He seems to be based off of Grigori Rasputin, who needs no introduction, and/or Ji Gong, a Chinese monk known for having supernatural abilities, behaving bizarrely, and not following Buddhist monastic rules. Interestingly, both these figures have movies (Rasputin the Mad Monk, a 1966 Hammer horror film starring Christopher Lee as the titular character, and the 1993 Hong Kong film The Mad Monk) that might have inspired his epithet.
Drake Pirates
X Drake: Drake is sometimes synonymous with dragon, especially in Middle English; appropriate, given that dinosaur bones likely inspired legends of dragons. His name is also taken from 16th-century pirate and adventurer Francis Drake. Random (but likely not a deliberate reference) fact: He shares his birthday with the singer/rapper Drake.
Heart Pirates
Trafalgar D. Water Law: His surname is taken from Cape Trafalgar in the south of Spain, which was the site of a battle between the British and French/Spanish fleets which famously killed Lord Nelson. His name is taken from 18th-century pirate Edward Low, who was notorious for violently torturing his victims before killing them, which may have inspired Law's own reputation for cruelty.
Bepo: He might be named after Lord Byron's poem 'Beppo.' He's also likely named after bear, polar.
Shachi: His name is the Japanese word for killer whale, which makes his friendship with Penguin (who's named after killer whales' preferred food) kind of funny.
Jean Bart: His name comes from the 16th-century French privateer Jean Bart.
Ikkaku: Her name means 'narwhal' in Japanese.
Uni: His name comes from the Japanese word for sea urchin.
Clione: 'Clione' is the Latin name for sea angels.
Hakugan: His name means 'snow goose' in Japanese.

[Wichapas Sumettikul | he/him ] Another face is seeking safety in New Orleans. Make sure to welcome KRIT VORACHAI to the home of the resilient. Rumor has it that they are an TWENTY SIX year old WITCH, who is one of the RETURNED but we’ll keep that a secret. They are said to be CHARMING, but that’s all a façade to cover up their DEADLY nature. We’ve heard that they can be found listening to THE DEVIL IS A GENTLEMAN BY MERCI RAINES, which sums them up pretty well. Let’s hope that they can find a way to survive this harsh new world.
[PROFILE]
Full name: Krit Vorachai (กฤษณ์ วรชัย) Nickname(s): Gremlin, Kritter, Hydra, Creep Birthdate: TBD Age: 26 Species: Witch Occupation: Pharmacist
Background: TW: murder, abuse, religion, stalking, idk this whole dude is a tw
Born in Thailand
Parents abstained from magic, but a family 'friend' taught Krit dark magic.
One day at school, he practiced the heartbeat control spell on a classmate, resulting in an irreversible death. Getting away with it fuelled his desire for more.
Somehow his parents figured it out, as the family friend 'tattled' on him.
His parents labelled him possessed by demonic energy, even claiming that Mara (a demon in Buddhism) had his soul.
They chained him up and subjected him to verses and scriptures, forcing him to recite them.
After years of this torture, he killed them in revenge and the family friend that tattled.
Among witches, he became branded as a servant of darkness rather than a servant of nature.
He targets churches, monasteries, and other religious sanctuaries for his killings, interpreting his role as a servant of darkness literally. He finds it amusing given his parents wished to free him of his 'sins'.
As he grew older, he had to expand the playing field, so he's killing many types of people, but monks are his favourite.
Obsession with Juri:
Krit met Juri during Juri's monk days, and while he would have slaughtered him too, he received a flower. Although Juri rejected him, their interactions sparked a crazed obsession, and Krit swore he'd make him fall and see the devil eventually.
Since then, Krit has stalked Juri relentlessly, even following him from Thailand to New Orleans, and despite Juri trying to hide, he used locator spells to trace him.
When Juri fled to America, Krit 'befriended' his family, even making a promise that he'd help find and return him to them.
He has this distorted idea that Juri belongs to him, and the flower he received, he keeps locked up in glass as a token of possession.
His obsession goes towards those who want to claim Juri themselves.
He's always watched Asher and Juri from a distance. Eventually, Asher had enough and killed Krit in the name of the OEA.

Hello! I'm back with one of my conversion ideas for Pathfinder 1E, and this time, I'm converting one of my favorite 2E monsters - the Rust Hag from the AP "Blood Lords". To be more exact, the Rust Hag was statted in "Graveclaw", the second issue of that particular adventure path.
I've tried to be as faithful as posssible to the original while at the same time make it as balanced as possible, but I will admit I'm kinda new at this. So, if anyone wants to make suggwstions or corrections, they are welcome to.
With that said, I hope you like this retro-conversion! ^^

Dodge Bullets (Ex): A rust hag gains a +4 dodge bonus to her Armor Class against any attack with firearms.
Greater Wielding (Ex): Firearms wielded by a rust hag are considered light weapons for the purposes of the Two-Weapon Fighting feat and to determine penalties for two-weapon fighting.
Hagshot (Ex): Any firearm wielded by a rust hag never misfires. It is also considered as having the ghost touch weapon ability for the purpose of hitting and damaging incorporeal creatures.
Rusting Touch (Sup): A rust hag’s touch quickly corrodes metal. If a rust hag hits with a claw attack, a single metallic object that the target is wearing or wielding takes 2d6 points of damage, ignoring its hardness. This damage is not halved as usual for attacking objects.A successful Reflex saving throw (DC 17) avoids damage, but an unattended object is not allowed a saving throw against this ability. Against a ferrous creature, this ability instead deals 2d6 points of extra damage per successful attack, with no saving throw allowed. Objects made of starmetals like adamantine or orichalcum are immune to this ability. The saving throw DC is Charisma-based.
Rust hags are an unusual breed of hag with a knack for technology and firearms. They dwell in slums, abandoned factories and other places of urban decay, where they hide out amongst the dregs of society, corrupting or preying on them as their whims dictate. A rust hag mocks the convinction that towns and cities are symbols of civilization and offer greater safety to their people, and seeks to undo these delusions by inciting violence, plunging a seemingly peaceful quarter in bloody riots, or by forcing city dwellers out of the buildings that they wrongfully see as a defense against chaos and savagery. Many rust hags set themselves up as leaders of violent street gangs, using their skills with firearms to command awe and obedience from their underlings. Other rust hags are solitary, concocting plans to drive city dwellers away and turn a once-flourishing town into a dismal ruin.
A rust hag is particularly tall and brawny for hag standards, easily standing more than 6 feet tall and weighing just a little below 200 pounds.
When a rust hag joins a coven, the coven adds discharge, foster hatred and protection against technology to its spell-like abilities.

A little preview of one of the NPCs from my forthcoming system-neutral dungeon, with one of the beautiful pieces that @molomoot put together. It’s available now in playtest version, with the full version with all the art coming early next year.
This is her current statblock most compatible with B/X, but I’ll be adding conversions to multiple systems in the final version as well.
Goblin Priestess
Pristina is one of two twin priestesses of the marsh goblins. She is fascinated with human society, and helped convince Juris, the marsh goblin warlord, to raid this tomb. She has been leading the so-far unsuccessful attempts to break into the other chambers. She is convinced there is a key somewhere in the room that she missed in the chaos of the fight against the faceless figures that once guarded it, and she is determined to find it. She is cautious but willing to work with adventurers if she thinks they will help her unlock the secrets of the tomb.

so idk if you guys get this but i'm going to spell it out anyways (bc there's at least 1 person who doesn't understand the final 5 scenario)
when you get to f5, there's (1)HOH, (2)voters and (2)evictees. basically if someone is willing to play the game ruthless (ie Michael) you only need one ally/vote to come out of the week with what you want done.
Scenario 1 - the voters Vote Together;
- (2 votes in favor of) the HOH, clean week and they transition smoothly into f4 scenario.
or
- (2 votes in opposition of) the HOH's wishes, effectively icing them out of the decision.
Scenario 2 - the voters Split the Vote;
- (1 - 1) the voters vote in opposition of one another. this forces the week 5 HOH to show their cards and deal a final (1)vote to evict.
---
so say michael(HOH, (1)) picks any combination of houseguests w/ brittany(1) he basically has free reign to eliminate a big target as long as they don't get veto. if he picks both monte and joe w/ brittany? basically one of them is definitely going home :/// bc,
now michael? he knows all of these scenarios. f5 HOH is virtually the last real HOH (bc f4 HOH is really the veto winners and f3 is very similar (and quick)). so you can bet michael has already realized that all he needs is brittany in the house w/ him for the outcome of the week to be what he wants. bc this scenario, without the added pressure of the personal aspects of jury management that a real f5 has (as the game gets further along/more personal), allows him a clean week to evict monte or joseph. so :/
Tumblr media
my dream scenario is that he fucks up and picks brit kyle turner and monte/joe and one of the guys gets veto and kyle goes.. (this will not happen 🥲) or that he picks brit, kyle/alyssa, both monte and joe // but had only put one of them on the block, the other wins veto and takes the first one off (again this will literally not happen 💀).. like he's definitely going to go for monte and joe.

I'm just talking to myself here/thinking out loud but the US + other western countries highlighting and taking action against how pervasive forced labour is in malaysia makes me incredibly nervous. like malaysia very very very much has a serious problem with forced labour especially in agricultural and industrial sectors (but also the maid/"live-in helper"/domestic worker economy being based around human trafficking of women from largely indonesia and the philippines) like once you realize how much forced labour makes up the malaysian economy it's deeply nauseating and things need to change desperately. this isn't even getting into the topic of migrant workers, stateless people and refugees within malaysia and how they're treated, like. it's bad, this is deeply harrowing and disturbing. that isn't up for debate.
but the idea that the US and other western nations are now highlighting these things as problems makes me nervous because if they're doing so it means that malaysia is no longer being treated as a sort of "neutral entity" to the west that isn't really worth talking about in their eyes, and instead a "bad country" and an enemy of "human rights" and whatever neoliberal project the US and co see itself as judge jury and executioner of, which could lead to things like sanctions. and as we know, sanctions spell very very very bad news for people on the ground. malaysia is in a unique position wrt this because most trade is with china, most business is with china, singapore, various countries in the middle east, other southeast asian countries, and the western country it's closest to both geographically and politically is australia (who is also guilty of a plethora of human rights abuses but i digress) so if the US were to target malaysia economically it wouldn't work as well as it would in other regions because it's not a major trade partner. it is a trade partner (canada is actually more involved in malaysian trade) but not a huge one comparatively. malaysia has never been very friendly with the US.
but it's important to note that when the US and other countries do this they don't do it because they actually care about forced labour or human rights or any of that, considering the entire US prison system is essentially made up of private forced labour camps targeting black and brown men. it doesn't make sense for them to suddenly care about forced labour happening in southeast asia, so there must the some sort of economic/political purpose here for them that i haven't quite figured out yet. both countries are at fault when it comes to their mistreatment of human beings within their borders. both countries are guilty of forced labour and human trafficking, and not by independent actors but by people working within and for their respective governments. it's the pot calling the kettle black. however, the US has the power to punish other countries for the same behaviour it engages in, and with malaysia's increasing political instability over the past few years that have only been exacerbated by covid and worsening climate disasters (flooding especially) if malaysia became target to things like economic sanctions and the like, it's the malaysian working people including those in forced labour situations who would suffer, not the politicians and CEOs and plantation barons who are the guilty parties. worsening economic situations push people into more fraught working situations like forced labour and trafficking, not the other way around. i just hope that these problems within malaysia can be solved without the US and other western nations getting involved because it literally never goes well

Additional Notes on Legal Issues in Daredevil Season 3
1. Ray Nadeem’s Deal with the DA. I have learned recently that, in New York, a witness who waives his Fifth Amendment privilege and testifies before a grand jury automatically receives “transactional” immunity (unless the witness decides to waive immunity). Transactional immunity means that the witness cannot be prosecuted for the crimes involved in his testimony. He can still be prosecuted for other crimes, however. In most states, unlike New York, such a witness typically receives “use” immunity. This is a narrower type of immunity; the witness’s testimony cannot be used against him, but he can still be prosecuted for the crimes involved in his testimony, based on evidence obtained independently of his testimony.
When Matt, Foggy, and Ray meet with Blake Tower in episode 12, Matt demands “full” immunity for Ray, in exchange for his testimony. “Transactional” immunity is sometimes called “full” immunity. So was Matt asking for something that Ray was already going to receive if he testified? Or was Matt asking for something more – an agreement that Ray would not be prosecuted for any crimes, not only those involved in his testimony? It must have been the latter; otherwise, there was really nothing for them to negotiate about.
When Tower states they are proceeding under the condition of use immunity, he is referring to Ray’s proffer (what he tells Tower in the meeting), not his testimony before the grand jury.
2. Conflicts of Interest? At the beginning of the meeting at Fogwell’s, Tower tells Ray that Matt and Foggy have their own agenda. He implies Matt and Foggy have conflicts of interest, saying that is not something one wants in legal counsel. However, Tower never spells out exactly what those conflicts are. Yes, Matt and Foggy have an agenda – taking down Fisk – but I don’t see a conflict of interest. Have I missed something?
3. When and how did Matt Murdock cease being a wanted fugitive? As late as episode 7, when Ray questions Karen after the attack on the Bulletin, he is still pursuing Matt based on Fisk’s allegations. Over the ensuing episodes, Ray begins to have doubts about Fisk, but he is focused on investigating Dex, not Fisk’s allegations against Matt. After Ray is framed for the murder of Agent Winn, he knows Fisk has been playing him and his fellow agents, but he can’t do anything about it, because he is working for Fisk at that point. We don’t see Fisk call off the FBI’s pursuit of Matt; Fisk simply moves on to other targets. After episode 7, we hear nothing more about the allegations against Matt.
Then, in episode 12, when Foggy asks Tower to meet with him and Matt, Tower says nothing about Matt being a wanted man. (Surely the FBI would have informed the NYPD and the DA that Matt was a wanted fugitive; the “BOLO” Matt hears at the end of episode 5 sounds like something that was going out over the police radio). If Matt is no longer a wanted man by the time he and Foggy meet with Tower, how did that happen? Whatever it was, it must have happened off-screen. We can theorize that the FBI didn’t find any evidence to support Fisk’s allegations against Matt (because there wasn't any), but this was a fairly important plot line, and it was basically left hanging.
4. Nelson, Murdock & Page. At the end of season 3, we were all thrilled to see “Nelson, Murdock & Page” on the new napkin. Unfortunately for us fans, the New York Rules of Professional Conduct for lawyers do not allow a non-lawyer (Karen, in this case) to be a partner in a law firm. Karen apparently knows this, because she points out that she is not a lawyer. The two lawyers apparently don’t know the rule. I honestly don’t care about the name of the firm or who is or isn’t a partner. I just want to see the three of them together again.

Obscured Chapter Eight: Belly of the Beast
Chapter Word Count: 6,440
Relationship: Izuku Midoriya X Female Reader
Previous Chapter: Seven
MASTERLIST
Warnings: Kidnappings, violence, language, blood, near-death experiences, drugs
I hope you enjoy this chapter! Let me know what you think!
...
A steel-toed boot to the chest woke Izuku up. He sucked in a breath and his eyes shot open. His brain felt like mush and every inch of his body ached. Something heavy and cold constrained his arms, hands pulled so far behind him that the tips of his fingers brushed against his shoulder blades and strained his bruised ribs. Layers of heavy metal chains had wrapped around him like a cocoon, which forced him to sit on his knees.
"Oh, looks like Sleeping Beauty finally awakes," an electronic voice mused. "Took your sweet time, didn't ya?"
Izuku tried to blink away the blurriness. He'd felt the effects of a sedative before; they weren't fun. If the chains weren't holding him upright, he would've fallen over. Through the pounding headache and general drowsiness, he managed to look up at his captor.
It was a mask he would recognize anywhere. Kabuki.
"You look dumbfounded." Kabuki crouched in front of him. "Or maybe just dumb."
He looked around, taking in his surroundings. In the dim light, he could make out steel beams in front of him. Two sets that ran parallel to each other, and lined by thick cement barricades. Two sets of rail tracks ran on either side of the beams in a large trench. He was sitting on the raised platform in what looked like some sort of abandoned subway station: complete with faded graffiti, piles of molded trash, and even a decayed staircase that went nowhere. A train whistled around the corner and a few moments later, rushed through, not bothering to slow down.
He blinked hard and forced his brain to start the gears. His memory was a little fuzzy; drugs tend to have that effect. How did he end up here? What was he doing last? He had left the hospital with you, that much he remembered. Then...then the car had been attacked. The bridge blew and you fell. You fell. The pieces slowly came together until they all clicked. His head shot up, eyes roaming around the rusted station in a panic.
"Looking for someone?" Kabuki cocked his head.
Izuku forced his attention back to him. "Where is she?"
"Ah, don't you worry about that," he shrugged. "It's just you and me right now. I wanted some one-on-one time with you."
Izuku flexed his fingers, another mini panic jolted through him when he didn't feel his quirk. "Why?"
"Haven't figured it out yet?" He stood up. "What a shame. And here I thought you were supposed to be the clever one. Hmm, maybe I gave you too much credit." He crossed his arms. "You don't even know who I am."
He tested the binds. With his strength gone and his head still a little fuzzy, it would be a lot more difficult to break free. He needed a plan, and fast.
"I know exactly who you are," he said.
"Oh really?" Kabuki laughed. "Do enlighten me then."
"You were the one who killed the Hashira. You also killed an officer, Officer Manaka. The two don't connect unless you trace back to three years ago." He explained as he wracked his brain for an escape route. "I looked into his records. He'd been receiving large sums of money for years from false accounts. The Hashira had him on their payroll. He would look the other way whenever they were involved and even helped cover up their mistakes. He was a dirty cop." He worked on getting his fingers free while he talked. "You were the first to figure it out."
"What's with the long story?" He put his hands on his hips. "You know, I've always hated how you ramble, it's annoying."
"The Hashira killed your family didn't they?." He said and Kabuki tensed. "It's why you targeted them. You killed Officer Manaka because he worked for them. It's why you killed any criminal you came across, warranted or not. It's why you became the Metal Hero Cobalt; to prevent what happened to you from happening to others. Isn't that right, Ikari?"
The two stared at each other in silence before Kabuki broke into laughter, which sounded pretty weird coming from an electronic mask. He pulled the long hood of his coat back before slipping the mask off. Blue locks of hair fell free, revealing the face of a young woman.
"Got it all figured out, huh?" She looked down at her mask. "I am glad you remember me. It would've been awkward if you didn't."
"You were a hero, Ikari," Izuku said. "Look at what you're doing, this isn't you."
"Don't pretend to know me." She narrowed her eyes. "Don't you dare forget that I'm not a hero anymore because of you."
"You know why." He said. "But that doesn't mean you have to become this."
"This?" A finger trailed down the center of the mask before she chucked it at him. "You're exactly the reason I had to do this! Everything that happened, everything that will happen, it's your fault Deku."
The mask bounced off his chest and landed at his feet. The empty eyes seemed to bore into him, mocking him.
"Blaming me doesn't make what you did any less wrong." The chains seemed to tighten around him on their own, but he still continued. "Those people didn't deserve to die. You can't play judge, jury, and executioner. You're acting like Stain."
"Stain?" She cocked her head. "You think I'm like Stain? He might've had the right idea, but he didn't know how to execute it properly. He killed any hero that got in his way...well, except for you." She tapped her chin. "You fought him the night he was captured, didn't you? Of course, that's not the official story anyway, but you were the one to take him out."
Izuku didn't say anything so she continued. "The problem with Stain is that he was too focused on the killing and not the actual changing. You should've been rewarded with taking him out, instead, you were threatened into silence and let that lava-brained oaf take all the credit. That's one of the many problems with the hero system. No one understands what true justice is anymore, instead jumping through red tape to make themselves look good. The wicked should be punished to the full extent. The heroes of this world need a major overhaul, and Japan will be the first to witness it."
"So you want to kill me, is that it?" He managed to slip a few fingers free. "And then what?"
"Ah, look at that, you got me monologuing." She chuckled. "You think you can get me to reveal my master plan? I'm well aware of hero tactics. Besides, what fun is there unless you figure it out when it's already too late? Let's see how much longer you can call yourself hero."
The ground rumbled as a train raced through the station on the closest track. The noise reverberated off the walls, making Izuku's headache that much worse.
"You brought me here for a reason." His wrist slipped free, but the rest of his arm was still trapped behind his back. "For some sort of retribution. Revenge."
"Oh, I'm not going to hurt you, if that's what you think." She bent down and patted his cheek. "No, I think you'll be more than capable of that yourself."
If she was going for ominous, she nailed it. Although he wasn't too sure of the 'no hurting' part. Villains don't just kidnap someone and bring them to an abandoned subway station in who-knows-where to have a nice chat. She was up to something, but the 'what' was still unclear.
The air beside them bent into a point before it expanded back out, bringing two people with it, both of which he recognized. A disturbing copy of himself holding onto what he prayed wasn't the real you. The 'what' suddenly became crystal clear.
"Gah, shit!" Fake Izuku toppled over, clutching his leg that had turned into a popsicle. "That damn bastard!"
You fell on your butt and scuttled backward, running into the decayed staircase. Your head swiveled around, taking in the new environment before finally landing on him.
"Izuku?" You asked.
All he could do was stare. You were still in your house clothes and slippers. Hair hung loosely around your head and he could see dark bags under your wide eyes. His escape plan just got upgraded to an emergency.
His face darkened and he turned his deadly glare on Ikari. "She's got nothing to do with this. It's me you're angry with."
Ikari looked over at you curiously. "Oh, but I went through all the trouble of bringing her here and you don't even say hello to your wife?" She headed your way. "It's awfully rude to ignore guests."
The chains dug into his skin as he struggled to free himself, he no longer cared about being discreet. One of the many parts bolted into the walls broke free. The chains themselves only coiled tighter, pressing into his lungs.
"Ikari, stop!"
She made a beeline for you with a smirk that spelled anything but nice. You used the broken down canopy that covered the stairs to pull yourself up and looked around for something to use for defense.
Ikari stopped short and turned to Fake Izuku, who was looking less and less like him by the second. Green hair had grown out to his shoulder and turned a rusty red. His muscular frame shrunk into more feminine shape. His face changed completely. The imposter wasn't a man at all, but it was someone you both recognized. You'd seen her enough on the news, giving the morning traffic reports from her helicopter. The same reporter who had gone missing, along with the helicopter that stole Izuku away.
"You're late Shizue." Ikari looked down at the woman.
Shizue, who was still nursing her frozen leg, looked up. "Well obviously I ran into some complications." She grumbled. "But I got the girl."
"You were supposed to get both." Ikari rubbed her forehead. "It was a simple snatch and run. Please tell me you didn't play actor again."
"What was I supposed to do? There were heroes there. You never said anything about heroes." She complained. "You said it would be easy, just off some officers and we're good to go." She got up and carefully tested her weight on the icicle of a leg. "Besides, it was a golden opportunity to try out my latest one." She held her hand over her leg and the ice shattered.
Ikari closed her eyes and shook her head before she set her focus back on you. "I'm glad you could make it Y/N. It wouldn't be any fun without you."
You glanced back at Izuku and noticed the mask lying on the ground next to him. It was a Kabuki mask. The same Kabuki mask that everyone had been working so hard to find.
"So you're Kabuki." You gripped the metal railing behind you. "Didn't expect you to be a girl."
She chuckled and leaned in close. "What? Ladies can't take initiative too?" Her hand reached for your chin and you pressed against the rail in an effort to avoid her. She snagged your face and forced you to look at her. "Do you know why you're here?"
You glanced at Izuku, who struggled in his binds. "To...kill me." The words were barely audible, but Izuku still seemed to hear.
He stopped struggling for a second to look at you, tears had pooled in his eyes and threatened to spill over. You two locked eyes. He was trying to communicate so many things with one look.
"Now why would I do that? You just got here." She pulled you off the stairs, slung an arm around your shoulders, and marched over to Izuku. "I'm sure you're dying to talk to him though." She laughed at her own joke. You did not.
She stopped a few feet from Izuku, who glared up at her. "She's innocent. Just let her go and I promise I'll stay."
Ikari frowned. "Innocent? What about all the others then? Weren't they innocent too?" She dug her nails into your shoulder. "Because of you, they're dead. Because of you, I couldn't save them. Because of you, I was forced to run while you went on to become the Number One Hero. A bit ironic, isn't it?"
She released you, only to grab your hair and yank you back into her so she could loop an arm around your throat.
"Call me a villain, I don't care anymore." From her sleeve, a thin metal arrow slowly slid out. "Titles won't matter for much longer anyway." She looked at Izuku. "You ruined everything I had achieved in just a few days." The sharp tip of the arrow rested just below your chin and slightly dug in. "What would you do if I ruined yours in just a few seconds?" The sharp tip tore through the skin as she drew a thin line across.
You frantically tried to tear her off with a terrified yelp. She didn't cut in very far, but it still hurt all the same.
Izuku went crazy, he thrashed so hard that three bolts ripped off the wall, giving him more room to move. The chains around him squeezed so hard he lost his breath, but it didn't deter him.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." Ikari threatened, lifting your head back to expose more of your throat. "Unless you do want me to kill her right here, right now."
"What do you want?" He stilled and gave his best I will destroy you glare.
"Hmm?" She tapped the blade against your throat. "I believe you already know that."
The blade retracted back into her sleeve and she threw you to the ground, by his feet. You scooted away from her, bumping into Izuku behind you. One hand held your neck and the other grabbed hold of his shirt. The small incision wasn't deep or all that concerning, even if it did dribble down in a steady flow. Cuts always bleed worse than they really are, at least that's what you told yourself.
"Are you okay?" You glanced at him.
He blinked. "Me?" He shook his head. "I'm so sorry. I'll get you out of here".
You nodded. If Izuku says he's going to do something, then he finds a way to do it. The problem was that doing just that would be a lot more challenging without his quirk, which was somehow being suppressed at the moment.
"Big words for a man in your position." Ikari pulled out a small pouch from her coat and tossed it between her hands. "But don't worry, I came bearing gifts."
She snapped her fingers and Shizue hobbled over to you and yanked you to your feet. You struggled against her as she dragged you away.
Izuku yelled at her, trying his best to worm himself out of the chains. The problem was that Ikari had full control over metal and any attempt he made at breaking free, she would only restrain him further.
With one of Shizue's legs still damaged, you exploited it and pushed into her as hard as you could. Her arms windmilled before she crashed to the ground. You had no idea what to do. Should you run and get to safety? That's what he would want you to do. Or should you try and free him? There was no way to get past Ikari, break the chains, and escape.
"Go!" He could see your hesitance. "Run!"
A mini tug-of-war battle waged in your mind. You would be no help if you stayed. But if you ran, would she just kill him anyway? It was a choice you didn't really have time to debate. Ikari brought you here for a reason: to hurt Izuku. Running was your best option. If you could just find some heroes to help, then you could help him. You took off.
Shizue clamored to her feet, muttering something about doing all the work and took off after you with a heavy limp. Even though her leg was messed up, she was still pretty fast.
Your first thought was the stairs, but one look at them and you needed to rethink. The entire thing had been sealed off with clumps of random metal all fused together. There was no way you'd be getting out that way.
Shizue grabbed your shoulder and pulled you back. You grabbed hold of the railing to steady yourself, but one of the poles snapped off and you lost your balance. You toppled into her and you both went down. The pole landed next to you, so you grabbed it and scrambled away from her. She grabbed your foot as you stood and you whacked her hand with the pole. She let you go with a scream and clutched her hand.
That was your chance, so you got back to your feet and sprinted down the platform. The station itself wasn't all that big and you found yourself at the end of the platform in no time, with no where else to go. As far as you could tell, the only exit was the blocked off staircase. Across the tracks was another platform with another set of stairs, but if the villains were smart, they would've blocked that too. There was another option, a much more dangerous option. You could always run down the tracks and try to escape through another station, but you'd have to be faster than a train. The horn sounded from the tunnel, yeah, there was no way you'd outrun a train.
The collar of your sweater was yanked back, nearly choking you as she grabbed you from behind. She had a handful of sweater, so you twisted around and ducked out. The fabric ripped and you stumbled back. Damn, that was one of your favorite sweaters too, Inko had gotten it for you a few Christmas's ago.
You didn't realize how close to the edge you were and one foot slipped off. Shizue was actually the one to save you from the fall. She grabbed your collar as you tipped off the edge, but didn't make any effort to pull you back up. Your fingers scrabbled at her jacket in an effort to hang on and your hand smacked the device around her waist.
The ground rumbled as the lights of the train flooded the tunnel. The tracks squealed as the train rushed into the station.
"Shizue." Ikari warned.
Shizue didn't take her eyes off you, a sadistic smile on her face. "Oops." She let go and you fell off the platform, right onto the tracks of the speeding train.
Izuku wrenched out the last of the bolts keeping him locked in place and fell forward, struggling with the coiling chains. He screamed and writhed, making every effort to escape, but without the strength of his quirk, he couldn't break out of Ikari's.
The train didn't even slow down and after a few moments, left the station. Shizue peered over the edge and crossed her arms. All that was left was a slipper.
"Shizue!" Ikari barked. "You idiot! That wasn't the plan!"
Shizue rolled her eyes, still clutching her hand as she made her way back over. "Chill out, geez. She was gonna die anyway."
"You are ruining my plans." She stepped closer to Shizue. "I don't care how important you think you are, if you do that again, I will kill you."
She narrowed her eyes. "Yeah? Well good luck finding someone else to make your supply."
The two women glared at each other before Ikari took a deep breath and turned back to an enraged Izuku. There was a murderous look on his face that even caused her some pause.
She knelt in front of him, dumping some shiny blue powder into her hand. "That's a bit disappointing, but at least I can still test my new blend."
"My new blend." Shizue mumbled behind her.
Izuku managed to get back to his knees, the chains struggling to hold him in. He was silent as he brought his head up, making eye contact with her. The air seemed to take on weight as his eyes bore into hers with such malice.
"Don't give me that look." She said, leaning away from him. "You know this is your fault Deku. Take some responsibility." She blew the powder in his face just as he headbutted her.
The bag flew out of her hand as she fell back, holding her nose. It was too late though, the powder clouded around his head and he gagged on it. He tried to hack it out, but powder clung to him, coating his mouth and throat. He choked and fell onto his stomach, face pressed into the ground.
Ikari stood up, holding her bloody nose. "Let's go."

Shoto gripped the wheel so tight, his knuckles turned white. They'd left the house once the police arrived to take over. Momo sat in the back with Inko, who had retreated back into her silent shock. No one had spoken a word since they left.
Ochaco had been carted away to the hospital. She'd lost a lot of blood and was barely conscious by the time the ambulance arrived. Shoto had managed to get a few key details from her and had sent Bakugo to the hospital to get the rest of the story.
The three of them were headed to the police station. It was clear Inko was also a target, which meant that she needed a safe, well, a more guarded place, until this was all resolved. At the station, she would have eyes on her at all times. Momo volunteered to stay with her until they found both you and Izuku.
Shoto's phone rang and he answered, the light of an oncoming car illuminated his face. "Chief, we're almost there."
"I've got officers waiting outside for you." Tsukauchi said. "Shinso's still here too."
He nodded. "We're ten minutes out."
He hung up and glanced in the rearview mirror. Momo was staring at Inko, who in turn, was staring out the window, gripping her hands tightly on her lap.
Another phone buzzed, on the seat between the two women. That was Ochaco's phone. It was left behind, so Momo had taken it for safe-keeping. A new text had come through. Momo wasn't one to pry, but given the circumstances, she allowed herself to look. It was only three words. She blinked and read them again.
"Shoto." Momo looked up. They made eye contact through the mirror. "I've got something."

Getting pushed in front of a speeding train was not a fun experience. Your back hit the tracks first, narrowly avoiding that third rail full of high voltage electricity. There was no time to think about the pain that sparked up your spine as you put all your muscles to work and rolled off the tracks, losing one of your slippers in the process. The train barreled through as you landed in the gravel, just inches from the tracks.
You laid there for a moment and let your mind catch up to what just happened as you watched the cars bobble through, the wind blasting your hair back. This wasn't the right time to sit and freak out though, they were still on the other side.
The two tracks were separated by a row of support beams and thick cement barricades. You jumped over one of the barricades and crouched as low as you could. It was wide enough to cover you, as long as they didn't come over to investigate. The train left, leaving a hollow emptiness to the station and you put a hand over your mouth to stifle your heavy breaths.
From the platform, you could hear the two villains arguing with each other, the words were too echoed to hear right, but they didn't seem happy with each other. There sounded like a small scuffle and Izuku yelled, the chains jingled. You didn't dare look, for fear they might see you. Right now, you were at an advantage, and you wanted to keep it that way. Just hide and wait for help, except no one knew where you were.
In your pocket was your phone, well your replacement anyway. The last one was still at the bottom of the river. Ochaco had given this one to you for the time being, in case of emergencies. This would definitely qualify as an emergency.
As quietly as you could, you slipped the phone out. This new one was temporary, which meant that none of your old contacts were transferred yet, and you never took the time to memorize anyone's number. Well, aside from Izuku's, but calling him wouldn't really help at the moment.
Calling was also a problem. It would be too risky to answer anyone's questions, they might hear you. So you'd have to settle for texting. You opened up the phone and almost let out an audible sigh of relief. There was one contact saved into the phone. Ochaco. She must have put her number in before giving it to you.
Your trembling fingers quickly typed out a message and sent it. SOS can't talk.
The station had gone eerily silent, aside from the constant hissing and distant sounds of horns. No voices, no chains, nothing.
The phone dinged and you curled around it, praying no one heard that. When no one came charging into view, you looked down at the response.
Tracking phone. Then a second message. Are you safe? - Momo
You blew out a quiet breath and clutched the phone to your chest. Momo had responded. She would know what to do and she would find you. All you had to do was hold out until then. The only thing that bothered you, aside from the obvious, was the silence.
A quick peek around the barrier and you saw the platform was empty, aside from Izuku, who was sprawled out on the ground, free of his chains. The two villains were nowhere to be seen. Had they just left? That didn't make any sense. Why would they leave when they already had the hero at their mercy? Something else had to be at play.
You focused on Izuku. He was lying face down, but you could see the rise and fall of his chest; he was breathing. Actually, he was breathing to much. It almost looked like he was hyperventilating.
On the phone, you typed out another quick text. Hiding. Two villains. Izuku's here.
After a few moments of watching him struggle to breathe, you couldn't stand it. The villains seemed to have left him for some reason and for all you know, he could be bleeding out, left to die. That was something you couldn't idly watch.
The phone buzzed again. Stay put. Let him handle it. We are coming.
How long would that take? Izuku could be dying and since they didn't come after you, there was a fair chance they thought you might already be dead. Maybe that's all they wanted. To kill you in front of him and then leave him to die.
He's hurt. You typed out.
Not even a second passed before she sent a response. Do NOT engage. Stay hidden.
That was easy to say, but what if you stayed put and he ended up bleeding to death, or died some other way? You might not have been a hero, but you were a nurse and you had to deal with the aftermath of battles and everyday accidents. This was what you were good at, and this is what Izuku needed, so you couldn't just stay hidden. But you did as she said, well, for the first two minutes. It was quiet, you were almost positive they had left.
You stood up, keeping low as you looked around. No one popped out so you hopped over the barricade. Your shoe-less foot stepped on something sharp and you hopped back with a quiet gasp. A small shard of glass stuck out on the bottom of your foot and you plucked it out. The ground was littered with dangerous debris, you'd have to be careful.
The missing slipper was still lying on the tracks, but it was shredded beyond use. Something else caught your eye, lying beside it. You limped over for closer examination. It was a small vial filled with dark liquid. It looked just like one of the vials on Shizue's contraption. You picked it up and the liquid sloshed inside. There was a label on the side with a word scribbled out in neat handwriting: Blacklash. That made no sense to you, but you slipped it into your pocket anyway.
The platform itself was about five feet off the ground. It took a few attempts, but you managed to crawl onto it. Another scan of the area and they were still nowhere to be found. If it was a trap of some sort and Izuku was the bait, then who exactly were they trying to catch? It wasn't you, they could easily find and subdue you without the elaborate scheme. It had to be something else. The other heroes maybe?
"Izuku?" You whispered, standing up.
His breath hitched and his back arched. He flattened his palms on the ground and pressed his face into the cement. A coughing fit wracked his body. There didn't seem to be any new injuries on him, well, no obvious ones anyway.
Since you already lost one, you decided to just take the other slipper off. You made your way over to him, one eye on your surroundings.
"Hey, Izuku," you knelt in front of him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Where did they go? What happened? Are you hurt?"
He refused to move, to look up at you. From his position, you could see the dried blood that coated the top of his head, mangling his hair. He was still injured from the crash and you had no way of knowing what sort of internal injuries he had. One hand clawed at the floor, nails scraped so hard a few of them broke.
"Izuku," you reached for him, but that same hand suddenly lurched out and caught your wrist.
Through his labored breathing, he managed to get a few words out. "Go." He said into the ground. "Get away."
"What?" You stared at his hand, the nails were bloody. "They're gone, we both need to go. Can you stand?"
He lifted his head. Dark spots of blue dust covered his face, mixing with his sweat. He locked eyes with you and you knew something was wrong, like really wrong. His pupils were blown, so much so that you could barely see any green left. His grip on your wrist was tight and it kept getting tighter.
"Ow," you hissed. "Izuku, stop, you're hurting me." You tried to pull away, but he wouldn't let go. You stood up and tried to pry his fingers off, but he was too strong. "Izuku, let go."
He grit his teeth and squeezed his eyes shut, pressing his forehead back into the floor. "G...go." He said that, yet he squeezed so hard, you felt your bones grind.
On the ground next to him was a small pouch, blue dust spilled out of the top. Those blue spots on his face looked exactly like Kirishima's after he'd been dosed with Kabuki's drug. You knew firsthand how volatile he'd gotten. If Izuku had been dosed with the same thing, then it didn't look good for either of you.
You gasped and fell back to your knees as your bone popped. If he squeezed much harder, your wrist would snap.
"Stop," you clawed at his hand. "Stop!"
He didn't even seem to hear you. His entire body trembled as he slowly pushed himself up; one hand still trying to dig into the ground while the other had an iron clamp on you. His matted hair fell into his face as he looked at you. The expression that crossed his face was something you'd never thought you'd see on him, much less directed at you: pure malice.
He twisted your wrist, drawing you closer and you yelped. Your panicked mind did the only thing it could think of. You slapped him across the face.
He momentarily loosened his grip enough for you to pull away. You fell backward and scurried out of his reach.
He blinked, staring at the ground, hand still raised, clutching nothing but air. It was like his brain was trying to calculate what just happened, and you weren't too keen on sticking around for him to figure it out.
As slow as you dared, you got to your feet, and took quiet steps back. You didn't want anything to set him off, and he was definitely way too unstable to talk with that drug coursing through him. You had to keep reminding yourself that the heroes were on their way.
Izuku let out a shaky groan and grabbed fistfuls of hair, leaning forward. It looked as though he was trying to fight against it, but drugs weren't something easily conquered. You would know, you'd seen enough overdoses come through your E.R. This was still a relatively unknown drug, that as far as you knew, caused extreme aggression.
The problem was that there was nowhere to escape too and very few hiding places. All the exits were sealed and most things had long been looted, leaving very little to work with. A deep horn blared from far off in the left tunnel; another train was coming.
The sound seemed to stir him. Green sparks jumped off his skin. His quirk was back, which was not good news for you. You needed a plan, and fast. Izuku lurched forward, his hands slapping the ground, cracks spiderwebbed out from underneath him. Then he looked up at you, eyes almost entirely black. He looked so un-Izuku-like that you could hardly believe that it was him.
A chill ran down your spine and only one thought came to mind: run.
Behind you, Izuku got to his feet and stumbled for balance. He looked almost drunk. No, that wasn't quite right either. You'd seen him drunk before, he would get all red-faced and giggly, not scary and demonic. This was a side to him you'd never seen before, and it scared you to your core. Even if he was weakened, he was still an incredibly formidable foe, one you'd never thought you'd have to face, yet here you were, running from your demon possessed husband, you know, like any normal couple.
Your phone! You dug it out of your pocket and called Momo. She picked up immediately.
"Y/N. Thank god." She sighed. "Are you okay? What's happening?"
A horn blared from far off down the tunnel as you sprinted to the end of the platform and glanced back at Izuku, who wobbled in place. "No, no. I'm with Izuku, but it's that drug, the same as Kirishima." Faded lights filled the tunnel. "That's why they left! I think, I think he's gonna..." You trailed off, grabbing your hair.
"I've got your location." She sounded so calm, controlled. "I've sent the heroes, they'll be there. Stay calm. Can you find a place to hide?"
"You're not coming?" A new spike of fear pierced your heart.
She was silent for a moment. "I can't. It's too far away, but I promise, help is coming."
"Too far?" You glanced down the tunnel, the floor rumbled as the train approached. "Where am I?"
She seemed hesitant to answer. "New York City."
"America?" You hissed. "How the hell-"
"A teleportation quirk, most likely." She said. "Just stay on the line, they shouldn't be too far off. Just a little longer."
A quick peek back at Izuku had your heart nearly leap into your throat. His eyes were locked onto you, face contorted into a menacing sneer, and lightning flickered off his skin.
"I don't think I have a little longer." You whispered.
He crouched and launched himself at you. For as clumsy as he looked, he was still extremely fast. You only had seconds to jump to the side or be smashed into the wall. Unfortunately, there was no more platform to jump on, which meant you hurled yourself over the edge, right onto the tracks. Something sharp stabbed your thigh and you cried out.
The train entered the station and you scrambled off the tracks, breathing heavy as it raced between the two of you, providing some temporary cover. You needed to move, to hide. Whatever had stabbed your thigh had left a sizable gash, but at least you could still walk on it, so that's what you did.
The only place left to really hide was back behind the barriers. You dove behind them again, hoping to god that his senses had also been dulled. He was the greatest hero in Japan and that title came with some serious battle skills, one's you certainly didn't have.
The train left and you covered your mouth to quiet your breathing. You had a death grip on the phone, but talking now would only reveal your location. Instead, you held it up to your ear, an almost inaudible whine escaped your throat.
Izuku grunted as he pulled himself from the dent in the wall, tile shattering as it fell out. You didn't dare look, but you could hear him shuffling around as the train disappeared down the tunnel.
"Momo." You couldn't help the pathetic mewl that puttered out. This was an entirely new experience. You'd always had that reassurance that if anything ever went wrong, Izuku would always be there to back you up. This time though, they'd turned this into some sort of twisted reversal. That single punch was meant to kill. If he got to you again...
"Hang on, hang on!" She'd lost that calm façade. "I'll-I'll figure this out, I promise!"
The crunch of gravel caught your attention and you pressed your back into the barricade. By the sound of it, he'd jumped off the platform, headed in your direction. A shadow loomed over you and you curled up against the barrier, praying to whatever deity that was listening, that he wouldn't find you.
A few tense moments passed before the shadow disappeared. Not a second later, the entire barricade was ripped from the ground and you fell back with a startled scream. Standing over you was a green-haired beast.

Target Jury Winning Spell (1)
The following Jury Winning Powder’s goals are self-explanatory:
Asafetida
Courtcase root[*]
High John the Conqueror
Dried hydrangea blossoms
Vetiver Root
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. This is particularly difficult with High John, which is a harder root than most. Place an entire High John between folded wax paper and smash it into chips with a hammer, before attempting to grind and powder.
If you’d like to extend the powder further, blend it into arrowroot powder.
There are two methods of obtaining benefits from Jury Winning Powder: sprinkle it around the jury box so that the jurors will have to step on or over it, or cast a ring of powder around brown or purple candles and burn them at home.
[*Courtcase root refers to galangal.]

Escanor (Seven Deadly Sins Anime)
Based on the character in Seven Deadly Sins, this homebrew consists of three parts: a homebrew subrace of Aasimar, a homebrew subclass of Paladin, and a new magic item. This build is designed to be balanced within 5e and follow the mechanics to prevent overpowered characters.
Tumblr media
Aasimar - Supernova (Subrace)
Supernova Aasimar are imbued with a divine energy that comes from the sunlight. The sunlight feeds a growth in size and strength that helps them destroy evil, guard the weakest of the world, and stand as a beacon against those that would creep out of the darkness. Supernova Aasimar are directed from a young age by followers of the light and are urged to use their powers against the evil and darkness of the planes.
Ability Score Increase
+1 to Constitution
Darkness Sensitivity
You have disadvantage on Strength based Attack Rolls, Strength (Athletics) Checks and Strength Saving Throws when it is night, you are affected by Darkness, or you are in the Underdark.
Powerful Build
When you are in the sunlight, while still a medium creature, your muscles bulge and you count as one size larger when determining your carrying Capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
Daylight’s Might
At 3rd level, the Gods have granted you access to the power of the Sun. As a Bonus Action, you magically gain the following benefits, which last for 1 minute:
If you are smaller than Large, you become Large, along with anything you are wearing. If you lack the room to become Large, your size doesn't change.
You have advantage on Strength (Athletics) Checks and Strength Saving Throws.
Once on each of your turns, one of your attacks with a weapon or an Unarmed Strike can deal an extra 1d6 damage to a target on a hit.
At 9th level you learn to recall the sun as a mental image and can use Daylight's Might once when it is night, you are affected by Darkness, or you are in the Underdark.
You can use this feature again once you finish a Short or Long Rest.
Paladin - Oath of the Dignified (Subclass)
Paladins who take the Oath of the Dignified strongly believe they and their companions are destined to achieve glory through their deeds. They train diligently, and encourage their companions to do as well, so they're ready to be the ultimate weapons against the chaotic tides of evil and the predations of extraplanar beings that threaten to tear down the world. They hold themselves to the highest standards of conduct, and some, for better or worse, hold the rest of the world to the same standards.
Tenets of the Oath of the Dignified
The tenets of the Oath of the Dignified drive a Paladin to stand tallest when faced with the worst that the world and the outer planes has to offer, often creating legends through their acts.
Pride - Take pride in your abilities and the abilities of those close to you. Also take pride in your enemies abilities, for they made the choice to face you.
Beacon of Hope - Be a glorious beacon for all who live in despair. Let the light of your deeds and courage shine forth to all those in need of hope. Strive to be known by these glorious deeds, not your words.
Dignified Duty - Never accept gifts or favors from Fiends or other Evils and those who may side with them. Stay true to your order, your comrades, and your pride for the sake of others.
Protect Those Beneath You - Aid others, protect the weak of this world, and punish those who threaten them. For those who show remorse, you do not need to be a judge, jury, and executioner.
Oath Spells
3rd-level Oath of the Dignified feature
You gain Oath Spells at the Paladin levels listed in the Oath of the Dignified table. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how Oath Spells work.
Level - Spells
3 - Heroism, Heavens' Rebuke (Hellish Rebuke that deals Radiant damage)
5 - Warding Bond, Scorching Ray
9 - Daylight, Beacon of Hope
13 - Wall of Fire, Freedom of Movement
17 - Dawn, Immolation
Channel Divinity
You gain the following two Channel Divinity options. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how Channel Divinity works.
Channel Divinity: Radiance of the Daylight
Starting at 3nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to harness sunlight, banishing darkness and dealing radiant damage to your foes.
As an action, you present your holy symbol, and any magical darkness within 30 feet of you is dispelled. Additionally, each hostile creature within 30 feet of you must make a Constitution saving throw. A creature takes radiant damage equal to 2d10 + your Paladin level on a failed saving throw, and half as much damage on a successful one. A creature that has total cover from you is not affected.
Channel Divinity: Divine Weapon
Starting at 3rd level, as an action, you can imbue one weapon that you are holding with radiant energy, using your Channel Divinity. For 1 minute, you add your Charisma modifier to attack rolls made with that weapon (with a minimum bonus of +1). The weapon also emits bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light 20 feet beyond that. If the weapon is not already magical, it becomes magical for the duration.
You can end this effect on your turn as part of any other action. If you are no longer holding or carrying this weapon, or if you fall unconscious, this effect ends.
Aura of the Unflinching
7th-level Oath of the Dignified feature
You emit an aura of alertness while you aren't Incapacitated. When you and any creatures of your choice within 10 feet of you roll Initiative, you all gain a bonus to Initiative equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.
Pride Before the Fall
15th-level Oath of the Dignified feature
When you are reduced to 0 Hit Points and not killed outright, your pride as a warrior prevents you from falling, dropping you to 1 hit point instead. Once you use this ability, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
Additionally, you suffer none of the drawbacks of old age, and you can’t be aged magically.
The Lion’s Pride
20th-level Oath of the Dignified feature
Your pride in your achievements empowers you through the legends—whether they are true or exaggerated—of your great deeds. As a Bonus Action, you gain the following benefits for 1 minute:
You are blessed with a legendary presence, gaining advantage on all Charisma Checks.
Once on each of your turns when you make a weapon Attack and miss, you can cause that Attack to hit instead.
If you fail a saving throw, you can use your Reaction to reroll it. You must use this new roll.
Once you use this Bonus Action, you can't use it again until you finish a Long Rest, unless you expend a 5th-level spell slot to use it again.
Failed Glasses of Shapechanging
Adventuring gear (wondrous item, eyes)
Category: Items
Item Rarity: Rare
*Requires Attunement
Glasses of Shapechanging were magically created by a famous arcane practitioner and are imbued with the Shapechange spell, changing the wearer into whatever form they imagine when they put them on. (For more information see the Shapechange spell)
However, these failed versions of the glasses were an early attempt at this magic item and they only turn the wearer into one form, a weak human commoner version of themselves (the first form they ever took when tested), even if the user is not a human. These glasses also suppress any detectable magical energies from being noticed about the wearer.

Beautiful Thing (Ethan x F!MC)
Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Dr. Lilac Allende) Word count: 1,300 Warning: Like one curse word? Premise: They workout together. They kiss. Author’s Note: Sorry, I couldn’t think of a summary
Tumblr media
________________
“Light on your feet, Allende,” he commands, not even straining against the force of her punch. That would've been disappointing any other day since Lilac is using all the force she can muster, but she is too busy looking for a gap in his defenses.
“Quit going easy on me,” she pants, still managing an edge of sarcasm in her futile endeavor.
Ethan gives no response, holding the punching mitt steadily in front of her. Shirtless, muscles straining with each movement, and handsome face set in concentration, he is infuriatingly distracting.
Blinking rapidly to refocus her scattered thoughts, she throws another jab, the smack of glove against mitt thundering across the deserted hospital gym.
He easily blocks another of her hits, expression completely serious. Aside from the slight pink hue on his face and neck, there is no indication Lilac is a worthy opponent, certainly not one to make him break a sweat. This brings about a slight flare of frustration, followed by determination.
“Lean your body weight forward every time you punch,” he instructs, easily catching another blow with the mitt. “You never want to lean back or your opponent will get you.”
“Let them get me,” she breathes, exhausted and swaying on her feet.
“Keep going.”
“It's no use,” she protests, every word sounding more embarrassingly labored than the last. “You know I'd probably talk my way out of a real fight.”
“It'd probably be your talking that lands you in a fight in the first place,” he returns at once, speech even and controlled. How was he not completely out of breath?
“I'd still be so charming and irresistible, they'd let me go,” Lilac replies weakly.
“Doubtful,” Ethan replies without breaking his focus.
She feigns a shocked, indignant face. “You don’t think I’m charming enough?” To prove her point, Lilac bites her lower lip briefly, pairing the gesture with a wink, a joke aimed at earning her a trademark ghost of a smile from him.
The effect is quite the opposite.
There is a brief almost imperceptible pause in Ethan's movements and she can swear his piercing eyes fall to her mouth. Ignoring how her body feels suddenly scalding hot, she aims a well-placed upper cut that Ethan is unsuccessful at blocking. It smacks against his shoulder.
The hit is rather unspectacular, but validating nonetheless.
“Ha!” she exclaims triumphantly.
Unimpressed, Ethan examines the spot she hit on his shoulder. “You need to do better than that if you want to reach your goal.”
Lilac doesn't know what makes her say it, but the words are out of her mouth before she can stop them. “My goal of looking good naked?”
Ethan falters again, just like the first time she had said the words.
This time, she lands a decent hit on his solid stomach. He barely flinches at the impact, however, staring at Lilac with surprise instead. When he recovers, his face is pinker than ever before and he splutters an unintelligible response.
Unable to help it, she laughs, the sound echoing throughout the vast room.
“Focus,” is all he says in a gruff, low voice.
“You're getting slow, anciano,” Lilac teases, letting her tongue roll out the last word with all the cadence her native language demands. “Que lástima.”
He arches a brow at the words and she notes there is no hint of confusion. Instead, his blue eyes roam over her face, scrutinizing her with such intensity that something stirs at her core. The last time he looked at her that way, he had carried her to his bed immediately afterward.
Lilac feels her smile vanish as she becomes too aware of how close they are standing, bodies hot with exertion. Palpable, white-hot tension crackles between them, making her body ache for him.
“What's a pity, Rookie, is you not realizing I speak enough Spanish to understand that,” he says in a gritty voice, the familiar baritone sending throbbing heat throughout her body.
Brain hazy with the spell of blue eyes, she is slow to respond. Her mind whirls between the way he is looking at her, eyes intense with longing, and his previous revelation. “You know–?”
She doesn’t finish the sentence because he moves impossibly closer, eyes still locked on hers, bodies so close now that her chest grazes against his upper abdomen with every ragged breath.
In a voice so dangerously low, her body is abuzz at hearing it, he says, “Can an old man pin you to the ground?”
There is no time to process the odd question because at that moment, Ethan gently sweeps his leg against hers, knocking it off balance and sending her tumbling down. She lands with a soft thud on the cushioned mat.
Ethan grins down at her. “Rookie mistake. Don’t get too cocky or your opponent will have an easy target.”
Lilac stares at him, awestruck. The back-lighting of the ceiling lights above him throw his face into contrast, making his already defined, angled jaw the most torturous sight she’s ever seen.
As if he doesn’t look devastating enough already, he laughs. When she makes no effort to move, he offers her his hand to help her up.
Lilac takes it, and before he has a chance to react, she mutters, “You old fool.”
She pulls with all her might, his surprise granting her enough leverage to send him tumbling down onto the mat beside her. He lands far less gracefully than she had.
Positively elated, Lilac rolls over on top of him, careful to keep their bodies from touching, her knees at either side of his hips. Ethan incredulously glances up at her, then lets his head fall back against the cushion, visibly defeated.
“Who’s the rookie now?” she asks, unable to contain a bout of giddy laughter.  “Float like a butterfly, sting like a–”
He kisses her.
Caught entirely off guard, she freezes against his lips. It doesn’t take long for her to recover, however, his demanding lips moving against hers inspiration enough. Her body relaxes against his, sinking down to fully, unabashedly straddle him, all consideration of decency forgotten.
Lips locked on one another, they urgently rid themselves of the boxing gear protecting their hands. Hers find their place at his shoulders, the movement second nature. It is as if her body remembers how to touch him despite all of the time of not having done so.
Ethan's hands, in turn, grip her hips. His fingers dig slightly into the spandex of her leggings as his tongue and teeth lavish her bottom lip with attention. It is then she realizes he is leaning back slightly and holding himself up with sheer abdominal strength.
“It's no wonder your body is ridiculous,” she mumbles hotly against his lips. To drive her point across, her hand descends down to his abs, nails delicately scraping down the hard surface.
Ethan hisses.
Recovering, he pulls back to smirk at her. “Not bad for an old man?”
“Hmm,” she says, panting. “Jury's still out.”
A challenge sparks in his mesmerizing eyes. Another smirk before he swiftly leans back, hoisting his hips off the mat along with Lilac. Her body weight presses entirely against his impressive length.
A strangled little moan leaves her.
At the sound, his smile disappears entirely, eyes darkening even more.
“Fuck.”
He brings his hips back down to the floor, which is probably a good thing for Lilac. She is uncertain how much longer she could have gone without being reduced to a quivering mess.
Ethan sits up to kiss her again, his confident tongue leaving devastation in its wake. His lips find their way to the ridge of her jaw, up to her ear. “How do you always do this to me, Rookie?”
He is not expecting an answer because he moves down to her neck, his beard pickling her skin in a way that is entirely too erotic.
Before Lilac can explicitly instruct what he must do to her body, the blaring of a phone alarm interrupts their movements.
They both curse, Ethan pairing his expletive with a groan. He falls back against the mat, hands rubbing his face.
“Our meeting with June and Baz will start in fifteen minutes,” he tells her through the persistence of the alarm.
“That's enough time,” she tries, mostly joking.
Ethan cuts her a look. “Don't insult me.”
She laughs, rolling off him, her body missing the warmth of his almost instantly.

Fate and Phantasms #46: Carmilla
Tumblr media
Today on Fate and Phantasms, we’re building Elizabeth Alter, a.k.a. Carmilla. This is what happens when you feed Eli after midnight. She’s a Cleric/Sorcerer mix who can deal a lot of necrotic damage to whoever’s unlucky enough to fall into her traps. If you want outright torture though, you’ll have to get creative-it’s  like you’re supposed to be the good guy in D&D or something.
You can check out the build’s summary spreadsheet here, or read the level-by-level breakdown below the cut!
Race and Background
Carmilla’s a special case: she was a human when she was alive, but as a servant, she’s kind of a Vampire. It’s close enough for us though, and Planeshift Ixalan was kind enough to give vampires a playable race. As a vampire, she gets +2 Charisma and +1 Wisdom, 60′ of Darkvision, Vampiric Resistance to necrotic damage, and two skills related to bloodsucking. Bloodthirst lets you make a melee attack on a willing, incapacitated, or restrained creature, dealing 1 piercing and 1d6 necrotic damage. The victim’s current and max HP is reduced by the amount of necrotic damage taken until their next long rest, and you heal equal to that amount as well. Your Feast of Blood means that for one minute after draining someone’s blood, your speed increases by 10′, and you have advantage on Strength and Dexterity saves and checks. It’s not quite getting younger, but it’s certainly nice. The damage from Bloodthirst doesn’t improve on its own, but we’ll be taking care of that ourselves.
For our background, we’ll make a variant of the Noble background. Carmilla may be queen, but she didn’t sit on the throne peacefully. This will give you proficiency in History and Intimidation, and your Position of Privilege means you’ll always be welcome in high society, or else.
Stats
First off, make your Wisdom as high as possible. You did rule a kingdom after all. Next is Charisma, because you ruled that kingdom mostly through fear. After that is your Constitution; you siphon your health from others, but that just means you have plenty to spare. I’d say you’re not that ripped, but you do somehow lug a massive iron coffin around with you, so let’s pick Strength next. After that is Intelligence; you’re not stupid, but we need other things more. Finally, we’re dumping Dexterity; for an assassin, you’re terrible at being discrete. Your best bet is to be so terrifying everyone pretends not to notice.
Class Levels
1. Cleric 1: Starting off as a cleric might seem an odd choice, until you remember Death Clerics exist. At first level, death clerics are proficient in  Wisdom and Charisma saves as well as two skills, which for you are Medicine and Insight. The key point of torture is to hit where it will cause the most pain, not the most damage. Now you’ll know their weak points, both physical and mental.
You also learn spells at this level, which you can cast with your Wisdom. Death Clerics can prepare first level spells from the cleric list, as well as the spells False Life and Ray of Sickness. You also learn three cantrips. Toll the Dead hurts more on creatures who are hurt, which is great, and works well with another feature you get at level one. Sacred Flame’s branding is a bit iffy, but setting people on fire is always a fun time. Finally, most of your torture gear is going to have to be handmade, so use Mending to keep everything together.
Finally, death clerics become a Reaper, learning the one necromancy cantrip that isn’t already on the cleric list (Chill Touch), and allowing you to cast single target necromancy cantrips on two creatures if they’re within 5′ of each other. The iron maiden’s doors are wide enough for everyone. Also, chill touch prevents its target from being healed, which would really cramp your style.
For weapons, you’ll mostly be using a Morningstar. You have a staff, but it’s really pointy, and you’d want to keep a hand open for spells and your Bloodthirst anyway.
2. Sorcerer 1: First level Sorcerers also get Spells, using their Charisma instead. Use Minor Illusion and Control Flames to mess with your victim’s mind. Gust will push back the unsightly creatures you can’t even bring yourself to touch. Poison Spray is also there. For first level spells, grab Mage Armor to set up that nifty thorn outfit you’ve got going on and Charm Person to make using your torture implements that much easier. You can’t make the victim intentionally hurt themselves, but there’s nothing inherently harmful about chaining yourself up, right?
First level sorcerers also get their Sorcerous Origin. The Bathory’s draconic bloodline has mutated in you to something... darker. Shadow Sorcerers get Eyes of the Dark, which at first level enhances your darkvision to 120′. You also learn the Strength of the Grave, allowing you to make a Charisma save when reduced to 0 hit points to instead hang on at 1 hp. You can only succeed on this save once per long rest, and it won’t work if you’re taking radiant damage or a critical hit. As it turns out, vampires are pretty hard to kill.
3. Sorcerer 2: Second level sorcerers become a Font of Magic, gaining sorcery points that will later be used for metamagic, but right now can only be used to make more spell slots.
Speaking of spells, you learn Sleep at this level. Sleeping enemies are a good target for your Bloodthirst, or to get dragged into a torture device.
4. Sorcerer 3: Third level shadow sorcerers get an improvement to their Eyes of the Dark. You can now spend three sorcery points or a spell slot to cast Darkness, and if cast with sorcery points you’ll be able to see through the darkness as well. Seeing is a privilege, and one you’re happy to revoke.
Sorcerers also get Metamagic at this level. Heightened Spell is expensive, but combining your saves with disadvantage is practically a sure bet. Having to stop mid-monologue to cast inflict wounds is so passe. That’s not a problem any more, thanks to Subtle Spell.
Speaking of spells, you learn a second level spell now. Crown of Madness isn’t that painful for the target at first, but they’ll have to live with what they’ve done for the rest of their lives. That’s where the true psychic damage kicks in.
5. Cleric 2: Second level clerics learn to Channel Divinity once per short rest. As a death cleric, you know two channel divinity options. The standard Turn Undead forces undead around you to make a wisdom save or run away from you. You should probably skip this one, especially since you’re undead too. Maybe. RAW Ixalan Vampires aren’t listed as undead, but they are vampires, so that probably falls under DM fiat.
For better use of your divinity, look no further than the Death Cleric’s Touch of Death. When you hit a creature with a melee attack, you can add 5 + twice your cleric level in necrotic damage to that attack. Your Bloodthirst is a melee attack that likes necrotic damage, and this adds a lot of necrotic damage to a melee attack. It’s a match made in heaven.
6. Cleric 3: Third level clerics get second level spells, and death clerics can add Blindness/Deafness and Ray of Enfeeblement to their spell lists. You’re going to want that last one: dumping dexterity means your AC is... not good. Best to mitigate the damage where you can. Some other spells you should check out at this level include Silence to abuse your subtle spell ability, and Spiritual Weapon. Technically it can be whatever form you choose, so why not a floating iron maiden? Sadly, this can’t restrain a creature, but you can also use Hold Person to keep one opponent steady while you find their jugular.
7. Cleric 4: Use your ASI to bump up your Wisdom for more and better spells. You also get another cantrip at this level; Thaumaturgy lets you really make an entrance, and gives you that “demon eye” look you have at your lower ascensions.
8. Cleric 5: At fifth level, your turn undead becomes Destroy Undead, instantly killing any undead of CR 1/2 who fail their wisdom save. The jury’s still out on you being undead, and you’re probably well over CR 1/2, but why risk it?
You also get third level spells, including your domain spells Animate Dead and Vampiric Touch. Getting some extra use out of your torture victims is nice, and Vampiric Touch uses wisdom instead of strength for more consistency in exchange for less healing. Some other spells to check out include Bestow Curse and Speak with Dead for more on-brand spells, and Life Transference just in case someone else in your party needs healing. You’ll just get it back from someone else anyway.
9. Cleric 6: Sixth level clerics can now channel their divinity twice per short rest, meaning you can add a total of 34 necrotic damage to your attacks between rests. You also learn the art of Inescapable Destruction, meaning your cleric spells and channel divinity ignore resistance to necrotic damage. Good news for you, bad news for those half and 2/3rds god types.
10. Cleric 7: Seventh level clerics get their fourth level spells, including your domain spells Blight and Death Ward. The former does a lot of necrotic damage, but it doesn’t really fit in with what you want to do. Blight removes someone’s bodily fluids, but you want to take them for your own. You can instantly kill a tree though, so congrats on learning a pokemon move. Death Ward also adds another layer of Not Dying to a creature of your choice, namely you. Not dying is good, you should try it.
Another fourth level spell you should check out is Freedom of Movement; forcing a villain into their own deathtrap is cliche and your strength isn’t that high. Don’t be a fool.
11. Cleric 8: Use your next ASI on your Charisma.  You don’t have many sorcerer spells, but charisma is also tied to how terrifying you are and more importantly, your Not Dying roll. Destroy Undead increases to CR 1 if you were interested, and you gain a Divine Strike, which adds 1d8 necrotic damage to a weapon attack you make once per turn. This doesn’t work with your Bloodthirst, but a bit more pain on your normal attacks never hurt. You, anyway. It’s going to hurt a lot of other people.
12. Cleric 9: Ninth level clerics get their fifth level spells, including your final domain spells, Antilife Shell and Cloudkill. Melee combat is for peasants, and antilife shell lets you live your best life, with everyone at least 10′ away from you. Cloudkill’s also nice, but poison is more Semiramis’ thing. Another spell to look at is Contagion, which afflicts one of a number of dreadful diseases on a creature. Flavor these into some torture techniques, and you’ve got your favorite spell ready to go.
13. Cleric 10: Tenth level clerics learn to rely on Divine Intervention, possibly allowing a deity to help you in any way your DM sees fit. This does mean you’ll have to figure out who your deity actually is, though. Since we’re on a MTG kick with your race, there’s always the Piety options from the new Theros book. You strike me as an Erebos sort of woman.
Aside from all that, you also get a new cantrip at this level. Guidance lets you add 1d4 to one ability check. You can have a little imperial privilege. As a treat.
14. Cleric 11: At eleventh level, you can see your Destroy Undead climb to killing CR 2 undead. Or you would if not for the fact they’re probably your undead to begin with. More constructively, you get 6th level spells! Create Undead lets you make more useful minions out of your victims, and Harm lets you deal a massive blast of necrotic damage to a creature while eating up a chunk of their maximum HP.
15. Cleric 12: Twelfth level clerics get another ASI, which for you is maximizing your Wisdom for even stronger spell saves.
16. Cleric 13: Thirteenth level clerics get seventh level spells. Divine Word lets you cash in all that HP reduction you’ve been getting to deafen, blind, stun, and even kill creatures based on their current HP.
17. Cleric 14: Destroy Undead increases again to CR 3, and in only slightly more useful news your Divine Strike improves to adding 2d8 necrotic damage per turn.
18. Cleric 15: Fifteenth level clerics get eighth level spells. There isn’t much in the way of high powered spells that help out your build, but the high level slots are good for empowering spells you have and for making more sorcery points.
19. Cleric 16: Use your last ASI for higher Constitution. That gives you better concentration and  a lot more health.
20. Cleric 17: Your final level brings your Destroy Undead up to killing CR 4 creatures, and you learn ninth level spells. Despite their power, ninth level spells don’t really do much for your build; you can’t even True Resurrection the original Elizabeth Bathory. However, you do get Improved Reaper, letting you double up on necromancy spells up to the fifth level.
Pros: Your sorcery points and Improved Reaper mean that you have a lot of energy in you for low level spells, letting you stay active for much longer than other spellcasters. You also have several spells that can effectively shut one enemy out of a fight. You probably aren’t strong enough to kill someone in the duration of a single Hold Person, but that should be enough time to mutilate them with some Contagion-based torture techniques. Finally, you’re pretty okay at not dying: you can heal yourself while still attacking enemies, you have pretty high HP for a full caster class, and you have two get out of death free cards you can punch per long rest.
Cons: You need to be hard to kill because you’re definitely not hard to hit; dumping dexterity did you no favors there. There’s also a dearth of high level spells that fit with this build-the consistency of low level spells is fine, but that’s never going to make up for not having a wish-tier spell to use. Finally, specializing in necrotic damage might be an issue in a world where the undead exist. This problem is easily solved by breaking character a bit and grabbing some radiant spells or using your other Channel Divinity option, if you’re really pressed for choices.
Next up: We’re making the strongest build in the world!

HEADCANON: Freed - History, Part 3
Part 1   |   Part 2
He didn’t return to the ones who had taken him in the last time he found himself removed from his old life. He couldn’t, at least in his mind. And his mind was a dark place indeed, filled with forbidden spells from the book he should never have touched. The power tempted him, and he recalled his feat of bringing down an entire dark guild on his own with it.
He tried to ignore it and yet…he wondered why he should. He was a disgrace to his family already, no, he had no family, so who was there to judge him? Who was there to tell him he wasn’t good enough? That he wasn’t one of them?
No one. There was no one to stop him either, no one to get in his way or tell him he couldn’t do whatever he wanted. It was a rush.
Anyone who prevented him from getting what he wanted, anyone who opposed him, he took them out. He was ruthless, cold, dark. He travelled across Stella, violent deeds sweeping along in his wake and heralding his arrival in Bosco. He followed a twisted sense of justice, delivering pain to anyone who he deemed had done wrong.
The rich, and those who looked down upon others, and dark mages too, all became his most frequent targets. He became an independent mage for hire, one who would even take assassination jobs. Why not get paid well for his work? He accepted contracts that fit his views and he carried them out with savage efficiency, serving his own causes in the same way.
For two years, his reputation grew within the area, whispered about in fear. He fell deeper into the darkness and convinced himself he was the only rightful judge, jury, and executioner. His travels took him to the borders of Fiore and kept him there long enough for him to draw the concern of Fiorean citizens.
Some banded together to submit a request to the most renown guild of the time, Fairy Tail, to have them stop him from venturing further into the land. The S-class level job was accepted by Laxus Dreyar, accompanied by Evergreen (and perhaps Bixlow). Upon defeat at their hands, Freed finally came back from his darkness, and they helped him find a new path alongside them.

Means Vs Ends: Heroes Vs Villains
You know one of the things I find the most interesting about Hero Aca is that; while the series tends to pretend it’s conflict as very black vs white, the reality is that it’s actually largely grey vs grey (vs white). I’m sure more than a few people would argue that it isn’t, but I think the fact that they wouldn't all then be able to then agree which are the good & bad sides, is probably compelling enough evidence to my point. So I wanted to write up an analysis of the current moral situation. But first; a brief tangent on the direction I’m tackling this from.
The saying goes “The ends justify the means.” And while that’s usually brought up in media where that turns out to be BS excuse, I’d say that the truth is that it varies in a case by case basis. When that saying is brought up, we’re meant to weigh the ends to the means and see which is more...significant, for lack of a better word.
Tumblr media
So that’s the direction that I’ll be be tackling the conflict between the Pro heroes and the PLF from, because I think it really highlights the complexities that have emerged between the two. Put simply: the heroes have more pure means, but the villains have the superior ends; although despite these points, neither side ends up looking good in a vacuum. So I thought I’d analyze and weigh them against each other.
The basics of the argument are as such: the heroes, at least the adult pro heroes and their government directors, have little in the way of ends because they’re just protecting the status quo, but conversely have no means to justify because they; follow the laws, act by the book, and generally act as the good guys. There’s almost nothing to talk about with them. (Well...that’s how it’s supposed to work anyway.) The PLF meanwhile have far more extreme means, mostly murder but it’s a lot of murder, but seem to have better ends by a mile to justify them.
“But that’s not right,” you may say, “isn’t Tomura trying to destroy everything?” And there is merit to that point; but the truth is that the destruction he talks about is his means, not the PLF’s ends. It used to be his ends, but Tomura intends for there to be more than enough of japan/the world leftover for his allies to make the world they’re after. He doesn’t see any value in the world itself, it frankly pisses him off, but he does see value in his allies & followers and wants them to get what they want. And depending on how many allies you count (juries still out on how he feels for the former MLA), what they want is a plethora of human rights improvements, accountability laid at corrupt powers, & the removal of most all the BS in the world people don’t really deal with because “it just is that way”. Like I said, better ends by a mile.
Tumblr media
It feels like some people don’t get that part too much, so I thought I’d spell it out.
However, just because I believe the world they intend to make is a potentially good one doesn’t mean I’d ignore the fact that their plan to see that world to fruition would be horrible. They’ve never really minced words, they’re not bringing about those human rights improvements through protests, they’re bringing about their societal upheaval by means of a massive attack on their own country.
Tumblr media
We don’t know many specifics, so we don’t know how many civilian casualties we can expect; it could be very few or it could be an unfathomable figure. Civilians/civilian casualties are hardly the PLF’s target by any means, but it’s ambiguous at best if they really care to minimize those numbers. In that way, it’s hard to weigh those ambiguous numbers against the Touya Todorokis, Himiko Togas, and Jin Bubaigawaras they would be potentially saving.
We do, however, know that they intend to destroy hero society and take over the country; and that would account for quite a few non-civilian casualties, if potentially minimized casualties if they take prisoners or accept surrenders. (Maybe wishful thinking, but I cannot state enough how little we know about their plans & policies.) If I had to estimate, I think we could guess the total to be somewhere in the 4-to-8 digit range and still be in reasonable optimism & pessimism ranges.
(I’m also not sure if we should include the Nomus here too. There’s a stark difference between the PLF & AFO’s former empire by this point, and it’s not like they’ve been asking for Nomu to be made. But on the other hand, they’ve never had problems using them. Eh, include with the PLF’s means at your own discretion I guess.)
So those are the PLF’s means, but what about the heroes’ means? I did hint earlier that those were worse than they should be; heroes murdering villains based on their own justifications, bringing in child soldiers to boost their numbers against a large scale threat, the immense crime against humanity that is Tartarus and how it’s used. And speaking of, there’s the matter of the ~110,000 individuals the heroes are currently fighting that have all committed the Tartarus-worthy offense of...associating with the League and attacking heroes (just ask Kurogiri), and thus would all receive sentences in the ball park of the death sentence. It’s pretty bad actually. Frankly, it doesn’t seem like either side’s means justify their own ends.
But if the PLF’s means are so terrible, doesn’t that mean the heroes are definitely justified in whatever actions they take? Their ends are saving all of those potential casualties I just mentioned, right?
Well it’s not that simple, because what we’re doing there is adding the villains’ means to the heroes ends; and to do that, you have to go all the way: Add the heroes’ means to the villains’ ends & vice versa; what one side seeks to accomplish the other must deem an acceptable sacrifice, and what crimes one side commits/seeks to commit justifies the actions of the other. In short; if the actions the villains take or plan to take justify action against them, the same must be true for the heroes.
Tumblr media
And at last we come to the major moral quandary of this post, and the deciding factor of whether the PLF can be considered some measure of justified, or if they’re still villains through and through:
Are the heroes justified in all these moral failures, ranging from murders to Tartarus, & in getting in the way of the human rights the PLF are after in order to save the lives endangered by the PLF? Or are the PLF justified in their sacrifices of human lives in order to bring about their brighter future and standing up to the crimes of hero society?
...Frankly I have no clue. That is a question involving; arguing safety and order vs human rights and freedom, comparing crimes against humanity against each other, & weighing way too many human lives for me to feel comfortable making a judgement call even if we did know how many lives we were weighing.
About the only thing I can say for sure is that the only truly good side is probably the hero students; who aren’t knowingly doing anything wrong and are genuinely just trying to help. And as thanks they’re being used & manipulated by one side by being thrown at the other in hopes that it’ll boost their chances and maybe be good PR if they win. Man, I feel bad for them.
