I try to avoid discourse, so no. I get mad at people with bad takes, block, move on

From dmbj I'm actively into heihua, less actively into pingxie, neither of them really at the highest brainrot levels. I think fondly of some of my other ships every once in a while

🤔🤔 I don't think so, I either get the vibe right away or I don't. I can get a better understanding of why people ship them, but that won't make me ship them

Do you have any ship that, in the past, would've been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?

uuuhhh yukishura maybe? even years back people were pointing out the age difference and I know, I know, but their dynamic is still nice even if I probably don't ship them like that anymore. xuexiao isn't from "the past" and it's been cancel worthy from the start lmao

What is your favorite crack ship?

I don't have crack ships, I'm too canon obsessed

What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?

Might be louis/lestat, I only read the books a few years ago and I had to do so much archeology for them!

What do most of your ships usually have in common?

Time to call myself out 💁‍♀️ I like more than one type of dynamic, but there are some elements that a lot of my ships have in common if I put them side by side: it's the "whatever souls are made of, yours and mine are the same (sometimes derogatory)" type of dynamic. I love characters that are complicated and think they're unlovable until they find someone that's Kind Of Like Them. It's even better when on the surface they seem very different, but they can tell they're the same. And the reaction of the two might be to be wary of each other, to antagonize each other, to clown each other, to take refuge in each other. Could be the premise of good enemies to lovers ships, but I usually like lower stakes. ginhiji (gintaka also), buckynat, wenzhou, heihua etc different flavors but I think they have this common thread

I haven't found something clear in common about ships that don't fit the above

What you absolutely hate in a ship?

There are romance tropes I dislike, fandom tropes I dislike, maybe I'm too tired to think of things that annoy me right now even though there are many

Last movie: The last thing I *remember* was Unico because I found a DVD of it and streamed it for friends because CHILDHOOD.

Currently watching: CritRole Campaign 1. Things I intend to look up are Digimon Ghost Game, Scavenger's Reign, actually watching my Robotech DVD's, and Mononoke (hi I'm B E H I N D).

Other things I watched this year: Legend of Vox Machina, still way behind on Star Trek Discovery, BNHA, the new Dune.

Shows I dropped this year: Imma level with you: I've been shit at watching things. I've done way more gaming.

Currently reading: Chemo/immunotherapy medication inserts + related search rabbit holes; trying to work on Young Wizards and just got a Humble Bundle of ALL OF DISCWORLD. I've still got some of Sherlock Holmes to finish. OH and Dinosaur Sanctuary which is amazing!

Currently listening to: Writing playlist for one of my OC works; right now it's on Nemesis by VNV Nation, Paradise (What About Us) by Within Temptation, Hyena by KMFDM, Knights of Cydonia by Muse. Also Bones from Imagine Dragons has been stuck in my head off and on.

Currently working on: Getting back to writing after a too-long hiatus due to life stresses + recovering from working in a hospital during the worst of the pandemic. Knitting a blanket, some painting attempts, getting back to making jewelry, and getting settled at a new job at a Cancer Center/Infusion clinic.

Also working on the permits etc. for the hummingbird banding site and hopefully getting those together BEFORE the last minute in March when we're supposed to start.

Current obsession(s): FFXIV is retaking its Real Estate, Project Moon, CritRole, Remedy games/Control, I am likely to rewatch VLD as a comfort series at some point. Hummingbirds and medicine shit. (Did you know a LOT of modern Chemo is mRNA immunotherapy? Also that 'Naturopathic Oncologist' is a cursed phrase that should be fucking illegal.)

ask box for dentist time : whichever scene you had the most trouble writing but was very satisfying to read once it was out? (hopefully that's not too vague?)

can I say all of them always all the time

I generally feel like this about, uh, literally every smut fic I write??? But I especially felt it about like silk in the stomach and patient wolf, because there's so many moving parts (both literally and figuratively lmao).

More generally, the most recent chapter update for the boy behind the drapes, the girl inside the crate was KILLER in terms of how to write it. That fic depends so much on a genuine attempt at honest communication between two characters literally incapable of it 9/10, so to write it happening in a way that feels coherent to their personalities is p a i n f u l and I am never fully sure I'm pulling it off. However, with all of these, I ended up feelling like even if they aren't aligned with a personal version of canon for people, they are aligned with the version of them I've created in that universe, and that'll have to do. I think pulling that off alone is an achievement.

As we're finishing out 2024, what is one thing from your writing this year that you're particularly proud of? And what is one fic you wrote that you would recommend for others to read?

i didn't write much in 2024 to be completely honest, and one of the two things i wrote is a wip i haven't updated SO

if i had to pick something to be proud of it'd probably be managing to sustain writing an entire 24k word fic almost entirely (though not completely) from zhang qiling's pov and the fic being about emotions and him realizing he has them for wu xie dsjkds that fic also kind of made me go unhinged it was A Time honestly

if i had to recommend a fic i wrote it'd probably either be the xiaoge pov one your heart, hanging in the air because it's probably the better of the two confession fics i've written in my opinion (the first one was a trial run shhh), or the cruelest month because for as grueling as it was i actually enjoyed writing sha hai wu xie and it's such a rarity in the western fandom that i'm kind of fond of it a little

eternal suffering (working on my second uni degree).

If you could go back to school would you?

[laughs like a hyena] bold of you to assume i've ever left school. unfortunately i think i'm doomed to academic pursuits for the rest of my life. that said if i could i would go back and force myself to realise i cannot do applied maths, that would have saved me time.

can you parallel park?

yes :) i actually like driving, i find it calming.

a job you had that would surprise people?

i actually was an after-school tutor for elementary students for a year! it was terrible, because i get overstimulated very easily by children, who are loud and insistent, but they were all very sweet. i didn't get paid nearly as much as i would have liked, though.

do you think aliens are real?

i am an alien agnostic, by which i mean i haven't seen proof, but if i were to, yeah.

can you drive a manual car?

not at the moment but i could probably figure it out if i had to.

what's your guilty pleasure?

generally i feel no guilt for my pleasures but uh. i remembered i actively read the sci novel on purpose, so. yeah, that. (would not recommend)

tattoos?

not yet! i want a couple, though, when i have more time and money.

favourite colour?

black and purple! and gold. and...........green and blue. i actually like a lot of colours haha.

favourite type of music?

i have been known to like mandopop u_u but i also like darkwave, goth, and anything that makes a compelling amv.

do you like puzzles?

i do! people used to gift me thousand piece plus puzzles when i was younger, and while they've mostly been lost in moves, i do think of them fondly.

any phobias?

lack of autonomy, which i think is a reasonable phobia. aside from that, no.

favourite childhood sport?

swimming! i was actually a decent competitive swimmer for years, and placed a number of times in regional meets (i didn't go any further because i hated having to be in meets due to the unique horrors of being wet and cold and half-nude around large crowds of people. and also life-related bullshit stressed me out so much i had to quit).

do you talk to yourself?

yes :) not as much as i used to because i live with people i'm not close to at the moment and i tend to stim a lot if i'm speaking to myself and i'd rather not have that conversation.

what movie(s) do you adore?

pacific rim (2013), the old guard (2020), the diptych finale of dijia aoteman/ultraman taiga (1997????) which isn't a film but was formative to my childhood.

tea!!!!! tea my beloved.............i will drink a lot of different types but i am a black tea lover at heart.

first most hits: strike it through (start again), an ofmd timeloop fic that i attribute the success of to posting at just the right time—ie, the peak of interest in fanfics, when there were still relatively few (if i remember correctly when i posted this there were fewer than 4k fics in the tag?) things floating around in comparison to how much people wanted to read things. i wouldn't say it's my best work, but hey, i always love a timeloop, so no regrets.

second most kudos and third most bookmarks are both "do you feel the hunger (does it howl inside?)" which wasn't something i particularly intended to write, nor something i honestly ship, but rather a gift to a friend—and, also, funnily enough, the fic that got someone noting in the bookmarks the bad tattooing practices within. in an 18th century pirate fanfic. this has always amused me, because i'd really like to know what that person wanted me to do if not be period-accurate.

fourth most comments: three autistic pirates in a ship, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. arguably the thing i had the most fun writing in 2022, an absolutely tongue in cheek, senseless comedy—something i'm surprised i managed, since comedy isn't really my wheelhouse, but between possible supernatural creature existence, poorly-named gay erotica, and a healthy dosage of me just tossing everything i thought i'd like at the fic, i have to say i think it turned out decently

fifth most words: and now we finally get to my pacrim fics! this one would be "reveal the picture in reverse", a collab i did with a friend i've since drifted apart from. it's all written in past tense which was very hard for me, since it demands a lot of different techniques from present tense, but i'm proud to say i think i managed to execute my part of it well enough (my co-author's portion is, of course, fantastic).

least amount of words: Dark Waters, ie my very bad 2018 gotham poetry. we shan't speak of this further.

tagged by @lucientelrunya to post a snippet from my wip, which i can finally do now that i’m working on something again! (thank you so much for the tag!!!) here’s a little snippet from my wip (no title yet, because i’m terrible at those and always leave it until right before posting).

What can he say? This is his Ershu, the man known for bending the world to his whims, an indomitable titan of the business world, who Wu Xie may sometimes fear, but always respects. His uncle only wants what’s best for him, for their family. It doesn’t matter that Wu Xie doesn’t want to spend time with these girls, would rather be playing the video games Xiao Hua gave him for his last birthday, or the cool rocks his Sanshu told him were from a tomb he explored that stick together even though they don’t look like magnets. He loves his Ershu, of course he wants to do what he’s told to.
