Listen, I truly don't know why I have such a strong urge to defend some white man. But I'm slightly drunk and some of the discourse concerning this poor guy I see on the internet makes me see fucking red.

The amount of digs at Joe I see daily on social media is seriously baffling to me. The same three unfunny jokes about him being poor, jobless, hiding her in the basement and Taylor "finally dating a successful man".

This actually offers some interesting insight into an American mind, I think. Because in what world is Joe Alwyn some kind of pathetic loser they make him up to be? He's a very talented actor. He has degrees from Bristol and CSSD. He was in several Oscar-nominated films, he worked with Ang Lee, Yorgos Lanthimos, Claire Denis. Watch any interview with him - he's a handsome, soft-spoken, well-read, intelligent guy.

Just because he hasn't won any Super Bowls, doesn't mean Taylor had spent six years with a jobless loser-parasite taking advantage of her money and fame.

Joe will probably never have the level of fame and commercial success Travis has. I don't see any box office smash hits in his future, he's not getting into MCU any time soon. This man will keep hopping around Sundance and Cannes, narrating audiobooks, doing A24 movies, Pinter plays and BBC limited series until he's old and gray.

It's completely fine to have a very private relationship, it's also okay to shout about your love from the rooftops. I find both beautifully romantic in completely different ways. And it's normal to want and need different things at different times in your life. This is clearly what happened to Taylor.

I have a strong suspicion that the reason most swifties love Taylor with Travis so much is because he gives them easier access to her. We all have our preferences, you all want a lovable extroverted himbo, a quiet British actor who knows a lot of Shakespeare is much more up my alley.

And remember - there will be happiness after you but there was happiness BECAUSE of you, both of these things can be true...

People need to stop hating on Joe Alwyn. If I see one more person bring up You're Losing Me against him, I'm going to lose it (pun intended). Sure, he kind of messed up, but some communication issues - which Taylor also has - don't make someone a bad person.

So, recently, quite a lot of stuff has happened. Like Matty kissed a security guard twice during his performance? I honestly don;t even have anything to comment anymore. 

We don’t know if Taylor and Matty broke up. But recently, Taylor sang false god and the lakes and idwlf. She sounded so sad and her eyes spoke everything. And also I wish you would is about wanting to patch up. The lakes is about running away with him and false god is just working things somehow. 

I think now that Matty thing is kinda over, she is actually facing her grieving feelings about the end of her relationship with Joe. She cannot avoid them now and she has to face them. And of course, she misses him. A LOT. It is like she misses him too much to be mad at him.

Like even during singing lover, the shine in her eyes, that smile is gone now. This just hurts so much. It is as if she lost all the hope of their reunion. But while singing the surprise songs, she gets some hope back ig? 

Joe has been spotted in Paris. And I read from one of the blogs only that he is on some sought of trip with his friends. I find it really nice for him. I mean his friends are putting an effort to get their friend through a tough time he is in. Which is really good. But, I wonder if he is ever like, “Remember how I was here with Taylor a few years ago” And stuff. 

I just wanna give both of them a big hug because they both are dealing with this separation in their own ways! I love both of them so much!!!!!!!

Honestly? Yes.

Based on my previous assessment of him being a covert narcissist… this is very much something he could be doing. Smear campaigns are classic for people like him. If you paint your former supply in the worst possible light… even if it’s clear how much of an absolute dick you were.. you will come out on top.

Also - the blatant attacks on Matty himself and the total over context of everything is definitely something that a NC would do. Worse the new partner looks… better you look and the more people consider that the woman (in this case) is unwell and it just adds to make them look better.

And now the man who hated being around paparazzi is out there… yeah. I wouldn’t doubt that he is behind this BS.

honestly, i never thought i shipped so much joe and taylor until the moment i heard they broke up. now im living in denial because she did not write so many songs about him just for them to break up(she'll never walk cornelia street again)

You know, it's rather interesting to me that Taylor Swift's parasocial relationship with her fans is honestly more akin to a YouTuber than a writer's. When I scroll through her tag on tumblr/Twitter, it's far more regarding the connection to her personal life/relationship developments than the actual metaphors/fictional story she might be telling. Everything comes back to how her songs reflect back on her relationships with Joe/Matty/Travis/Jake/insert ex-boyfriend here. And what fascinates me about it is that even though she complains about it, she leans into that very perception because it strengthens the parasocial bond.

The marketing for TTPD so clearly being about Joe Alwyn and the songs to Matty Healy. The marketing/video for Red TV so CLEARLY being about Jake Gyllenhaal, with so many of the new lines in All Too Well specifically being digs at him (I'll get older but your lovers stay my age, casting an actor that looks like him for the video, specific lines in I Bet You Think About Me). The fact that songs like Getaway Car and Bejeweled and Gorgeous and London Boy and Lavender Haze being picked apart at time of release and long after for signs of relationships crumbling. The way she uses surprise songs in relation to her relationship development with Joe/Matty/Travis. The damn TTPD "stages of grief" playlists where she deliberately undid/changed the meanings of old songs just to keep her audience speculating on her love life.

It's not sexist to point out that her wielding her love life is a marketing tool and that the strongest connection to her audience isn't the strength of her writing/the composition of her music- it's her deliberate crafting of a connection between her music and her personal life, leaving the audience invested in her music as an extension of Taylor the Person/Girlfriend rather than Taylor the Artist.

Joe was always in front of her. Practically dragging her and sometimes actually dragging her. At times, he’s actually dragging her and the way he’s holding her is… it irks me.

My father was one of those guys who believed that women should always walk behind a man. It’s a submissive gesture for many walks of life.

Matty on the other hand has his hand on her back and let’s her take the lead. He’s protecting her. If anything comes up behind them.. he takes it and not her.

The body language as well.

But that’s just my opinion.

taylor and matty are only “seeing each other” and yet he has already gone to more of her shows — and proudly, might i add — than joe ever did… all i’m saying is swifties are acting like this is the worst case scenario meanwhile taylor finally has someone who wants to celebrate her success rather than being jealous of it ☺️ that’s all.

I sound like a broken record, but I really can't get over her basically airing out Joe Alwyn's mental health problems to the world and liking tweets of people poking fun at his struggles. She basically made sure any person Joe works with going forward knows he's struggled with his mental health. And while there is nothing to be ashamed of. He's clearly a deeply private person. She writes on Instagram there is "nothing to avenge" and that her "wounds are healed." Certainly doesn't sound like it.

A few weeks ago, Taylor was seen having dinners with friends and going out and about in nyc wearing the most fashionable clothes, giving the idgaf attitude and at the same time, Joe was spotted kinda sad and depressed in London. 

And now he is seen in Paris, with his glasses on and a really smug look, enjoying with his friends while Taylor is on the verge of breaking down while singing songs during her performance. (idwlf, the lakes, false god, etc)

did you guys notice that the main theme she put about her relationship with joe in this album was that it felt like a cage to her because he was depressed. the song, so long london makes me feel so sorry for joe because she is resenting him for having his blue days and not snapping out of his depression faster so that she can have a perfect wedding. it's so insensitive given how joe was there for her during her darkest days and pulled her out of it, deleted her social media apps so she wouldn’t see the mean things people say about her etc etc. he was there for her when nobody else was. but she couldn’t be there for him when it was his time. she got bored and started rekindling her fling with matty when joe was dealing with his issues on his own. and she wonders why he wouldn’t marry her?

the worst thing happened after the breakup. she knows that joe deals with depression and yet she sent her fans after him to harass him on a daily basis for a whole year! she used the cheating rumours as a marketing scheme to release an album about matty. she let her fans harass any woman that worked with joe. how can a person be so vile?
