Tomorrow I'll finish rereading The Brothers Karamazov and I'm still amazed by how important this book has become to me. Even though I know it in such a detailed manner, I still find myself endeared or shaken by every gesture of these characters, I still have questions, I still experience lasting feelings of bliss or dread after I finish the reading session. Of course, not every read is the same. This time around, I've paid more attention to Fyodor Pavlovich's words, and I even played detective a bit with the facts of the case. I liked Zosima's chronicle more than the last time, and greatly enjoyed the metanarrative aspects.
It's strange. In the beginning, I thought: "no, it can't possibly be as good as I remember. This writing style seems rougher than I remember. Some of these tangents are a little boring - and I can tolerate it because reading things that are not entertaining is my calling." But as I continued I remembered why I love it.

Remember the five minutes in Oleander Sword where everything was fine, and then nothing devastating ever happened to these characters 🙃

Reading Dostoevsky is like talking to your 40 year uncle who barely made it past age 30 given his riotous life, but who therefore has life advice for every predicament and woe you'll ever know.

My favorite part in the brothers Karamazov is when the brothers say "it's Karamazov time!" And Karamazovs all over the place.
