the server includes the priory of the orange tree, the masquerade, the burning kingdoms, among all others (which i've tagged this post with!) here's the link if you're interested in joining:

ok “I love her" but what about "I need her. Because she saw me once, for everything I was and could be, and wanted me anyway. And she sees me and wants me still, over the chasm that should make enemies of us. And yet it does not. Cannot"

favourite books: the jasmine throne by tasha suri
imprisoned by her dictator brother, malini spends her days in isolation in the hirana: an ancient temple that was once the source of the powerful, magical deathless waters — but is now little more than a decaying ruin. priya is a maidservant, one among several who make the treacherous journey to the top of the hirana every night to clean malini’s chambers. she is happy to be an anonymous drudge, so long as it keeps anyone from guessing the dangerous secret she hides. but when malini accidentally bears witness to priya’s true nature, their destinies become irrevocably tangled. one is a vengeful princess seeking to depose her brother from his throne. the other is a priestess seeking to find her family. together, they will change the fate of an empire.

if priyamalini has a million fans, i am one of them. if priyamalini has ten fans, i am one of them. if priyamalini has one fan then it is me. if priyamalini has no fans, i am dead. if the world is against priyamalini, i am against the world.

Glad to see another Rao/Aditya shipper out here, I love The Jasmine Throne and The Oleander Sword, I love how Tasha Suri handles lesbian relationships (Malini and Priya) and straight relationships (Bhumika and Jeevan) but mothers forbid two men be more than just friends in the world of The Burning Kingdoms. We only get one instance of men loving men in the books, which is the woodcutter who married a tree. That's just it, in the world of The Burning Kingdoms, mlms are just that, fairy tales. (or relics if the tree marriage thing actually happened at some point in Ahiranya's history)
Sorry for the long rant, I was just angry. Also, I love Priyamalini and all but have you ever considered Alori/Malini/Narina? There were definitely something between them.
(notice plz)
i understand ur frustration and it's totally valid, esp bcs the main pairing is a lesbian ship... might as well make Rao x Aditya a canon ship, right?
but, honestly, i have no issues with it... i'm someone who is fine with characters being friends as long as there's no queerbaiting involved and, as far as i see it, Tasha didn't gaybait Rao x Aditya.
they're just extremely close friends who are loyal and devoted to one another; people like that exist, relationships like that also exist. without derailing into romance. me & my relationships are living proof lol
as for Alori/Malini/Narina, i see it. didn't think about it bcs Malini so adamantly referred to them as sisters of her heart but yeah, i see it.
(i know that this might not be the response u expect but it is a truthful response so, uh, idk)

Read both installments in The Burning Kingdoms and I love Priyamalini and all but have you ever considered Alori/Malini/Narina? (also Aditya and Rao totally had huge crushes on each other pspsps—)
Omg. YES Alori/Malini/Narina feels so canon to me. Like... even if they didn't act on it... the vibes were (and are?? Mothers of flame worldbuilding...? I really think in some way they are still there with her) there... I can totally see it. Subversive sapphic sisterhood/triumvirate/ot3 fits perfectly for them.
And I agree Rao and Aditya were totally crushing on each other. However, I have to say my hot take is that Rao should have ended up with Prem (who was crushing on him) and Prem should have lived and he and Rao would have been happy together when Rao realized what was right in front of him...

also i love you so much and have missed talking to you too <3333 & the jasmine throne reread is so real of you..... completely different level of quality but a friend got me into the all for the game trilogy and i have reread it like six different times in the span of three months by now i am ENRAPTURED!!!
our pen pal asks were simply iconic i was just thinking about priyamalini the other day like a reread and a breakdown was just bound to happen at this point (me in 2021 crying on the bathroom floor 🤞.thank you to olivia rodrigo i would cite APA format but i am lazy)
OMG AFTG i think i picked up the first book but then i forgot about it and i really do need to pick it up again i can't even remember how my brain completely just forgot about a books existence this is why i read one book at a time. also you know a book is good when you've reread it again even if you know every single plot point at that point
