The video starts with a blurry shot of someone’s feet, before abruptly focusing, a triumphant laugh crowing out. The camera turns, now pointed directly up a man’s nose.
“Alrighty! I got this hunk a’ junk workin’!”
The camera turns again, this time pointing at a man lounging in a chair. It’s clear they’re in a garage or basement, if the high windows and dim lights are anything to go by.
“Alright, Dipple Dop,” The cameraman asks gleefully. “What do you think… hm… what do you think the meaning of life is?”
‘Dipple Dop’ lets out a surprised laugh. “What?”
“Answer the question Impulse,” A voice off-screen says. “I wanna know what you think.”
“I think the meaning of life…” Impulse puffs out his cheeks. “I think it’s drumming.”
“You would say that, nooch,” The cameraman laughs. “Not that you’re wrong, but that’s a really lame answer.”
“No, no, I mean, like… the meaning of life is finding something you really love, like drumming for you and me, or game design for Tango, or… I don’t know, wasting all your money on tripods for Joker.”
The camera swings to the side for a second, briefly showing a man holding a basketball, who laughs. “Guilty.”
“The meaning of life,” Impulse says, decisively. “Is to do what makes you happy.”
“Ooohohoh, that’s good,” The cameraman chuckles. “Okay, Tango Top, what about you?”
The camera lands on another man, sitting on the floor, shuffling a deck of cards. “Me?”
“Yeah, you, what do you think the meaning of life is?”
Tango tilts his head, scrunching his face up. “Can I pass?”
“Nope!”
“Then… I guess… I guess the point of life is you guys,” Tango shrugs. “Like, having people there for you, having people who can back you up if you need it. I think life’s all about not knowing anything, but knowing people who do know things. Like… I don’t know anything about how to talk to people, but you do. And I know I can always go to you if I need it.”
“Aw, buddy!”
“It’s the truth,” Tango smiles. “The secret to life is other people.”
“Okay!” The camera turns back to Joker, who tosses the basketball up in the air and catches it. “Jokes?”
“Sex, drugs and rock and roll,” Joker announces confidently. “That’s what life’s all about, baby!”
“I don’t think it is.”
“I do.”
“Come on, give me a serious answer, man!”
“That is my serious answer!” Joker laughs. “I think the point of life is to have fun, you know, live laugh love or whatever! There’s no use being alive if you’re just going to wait to die!”
“So, the meaning of life… is life?”
“Bingo.” Joker snaps his fingers.
“What about you, Skizz?” Impulse asks. “What do you think the meaning of life is?”
Joker reaches out, taking the camera and turning it on the cameraman, who laughs. “Me?”
“Yeah,” Joker snorts. “You’re the one giving us the third degree over here, what do you think?”
“I think the meaning of life… I don’t think there is one! I think we’re all here because of some big wonderful coincidence, and all we can do about it is be nice!”
“Oh really?” Tango raises an eyebrow.
“Yeah. I think that we’re here because we’re here, and there’s no stopping that!” Skizz raises his fists. “We are alive, and that’s enough for me!”
“Woo!” Joker whoops. “Hell yeah!”
“Hell yeah!”
The video ends, the screen freezing on Skizz’s smile.
He looks really, truly, alive.
