"Environment and Climate Change Canada says Teck Metals Ltd., a subsidiary of Teck Resources Ltd., has been ordered to pay $2.2 million in federal and provincial fines for an effluent spill into the Columbia River.

The government department says in a statement that Teck earlier pleaded guilty to two charges laid under the federal Fisheries Act and one charge under British Columbia's Environmental Management Act.

The charges stem from a February 2019 release of effluent into the Columbia River, which the government says was caused by a leak from the company's fertilizer operations in Warfield, B.C.

The government says the low-pH effluent was harmful to fish.

Environment and Climate Change Canada investigated the spill and found that the 2.5-million-litre discharge resulted from numerous operational errors.

They say that Teck will be added to the Environmental Offenders Registry, and the federal fine of $2 million will go to the government's Environmental Damages Fund."

hi!! let me preface by saying i am most definitely *not* asking about The Drama, this is purely a tiara question. i’m fairly ignorant about the tiaras in the BRF vault, but since we found out meghan had 5 choices for wedding tiaras, ive been wondering what they could be? i assume Teck Crescent, Strathmore Rose, and obvs the Bandeau she wore, but what do you think the other 2 could’ve been? i think one had emeralds so maybe Greville Kokoshnik, but is there an aquamarine tiara not currently in use?

I've gotten a few asks about this but you were the only one from someone I know who you are so I believe that you're not trying to stir the pot. To other people, say whatever you want on your own blog but don't put hateful stuff towards anyone involved in this whole thing on my posts because I will block you. I will always be happy, if a little (ok a lot) slow, to answer genuine questions about tiaras.

Alright so, five tiaras...

Queen Mary's Diamond Bandeau Tiara (formerly called the Filigree Tiara which I still prefer because it differentiates it from her other diamond bandeau tiaras) would be the only sure thing because it's the one the Duchess of Sussex choose for her wedding day. I think it was the perfect choice for her and I loved seeing it pulled from the vault after decades of not knowing if it even still existed.

The emerald tiara would have to be Margaret Greville's Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara because it's the only emerald one QEII owned except the version of the Vladimir with the Cambridge Emeralds and she wasn't going to loan out that because she still regularly wore it. It makes sense because Princess Eugenie wore it later that year so it was probably in the pool of tiaras available to be loaned out to brides.

One of them being aquamarine is throwing me. There are a few aquamarine tiaras in the family but they either didn't belong to QEII or were already on long term loan to someone else. The only one I can think of being offered is the Five Aquamarine Tiara (also called the Aquamarine Ribbon Tiara, the Canadian Aquamarine Tiara, or the Small Aquamarine Tiara) which is presumably still on loan to the Countess of Wessex. She's only worn it a handful of times and she already has a different aquamarine tiara that she seems to prefer so I can see her returning this one to the vault. The last time I can find her wearing it was in 2014 so that's plenty of time for things to change behind the scenes. Of course with the BRF it's very possible that there's another aquamarine tiara in the vaults that we know nothing about.

The Strathmore Rose Tiara was probably in the mix. It's rumored that the metal has deteriorated and that's why it hasn't been worn in so long but it was featured in The Queen's Diamonds in 2012 and even if it was in bad shape that could be fixed. I know everyone loves this tiara and it's always brought up as a possibility for British royal brides but it's not a favorite of mine. I don't know, it's a little too button-y or the flowers are little too simplistic. I think I would need to see it worn with modern day hairstyles to decide if I like it because most of the pictures of it being worn are across the forehead 1920s style.

For the fifth tiara I would actually go with Queen Mary's Lozenge Tiara without the pearls like Princess Margaret wore it over the Teck Crescent Tiara. In The Queen's Diamonds, Hugh Roberts writes that the Teck Crescent was loaned to the then Duchess of Cornwall but she never wore it. I suppose that it could have been put back in the vault between 2012 when the book was published and the wedding in 2018 because Camilla realized she was never going to wear it. The Lozenge Tiara wasn't loaned out to anyone and is much more wearable due to the large circumference of the Teck Crescent. The Lozenge hasn't been seen in forever and a day but neither had the one she ended up choosing. I had it on my list of tiara predictions before the wedding because it has a geometric design which I think suits her style and I really want to see someone wear it.

As I'm looking at these I'm hit by how deep the BRF vaults are. Before 2018 when they were debuted at weddings, Queen Mary's Diamond Bandeau Tiara hadn't been worn for nearly seven decades and the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik hadn't been worn since Margaret Greville passed away seven and a half decades before. The Strathmore Rose still hasn't been worn in nearly nine decades and the Lozenge hasn't been worn in six decades. Also I'm not convinced that the aquamarine tiara offered was the Five Aquamarine Tiara so there could be another in the vault that's never been worn publicly. They've got a great collection of tiaras, I just wish they would actually use them.

Hello, I want to do an Apex match up.

I am non-binary, aromantic, and I am 5'0ft. My pronouns are mainly they/them; I don't mind being referred she/her or he/him at times. I enjoy listening to music, playing games, skateboarding, writing, penpalling, and being curious (but not to where I become nosy). The music I listen to are alternative, indie, some metal, k-pop, and occasional throwbacks. I am still learning how to do tricks on my skateboard but not on my teck deck.

People describe me as shy, really quiet, mysterious, funny, and intelligent. From my anime friends, I'm a mix of a tsundere and a kuudere (I don't hit people or call them names, no worries lol). I'm neurodivergent so I fail to understand social cues or jokes. I have a monotone voice and I lack facial expressions. A lot of people think I dislike or don't want to talk to them because of this. When I smile for a genuine reason, I noticed people are surprised. I never get it, but I guess it's new to them. I only show my emotions when I am alone or to someone I consider really close. I also hate being touched. There are times I want to hug but I hug my pillows or plush; or I will give a surprise hug to someone. I get really shy from praise or when people are nice to me.

I can speak English, a bit of Japanese, a bit of Dutch, and a bit of ASL. I plan on learning Korean, Russian, Italian, and more languages in the future.

You both are interested in the same music. People usually think think he just like like metal and rock, but nope, he likes more then just thoughs two types of music.

He loves games, both video games and games that are outside, the only games he doesn't like board games. He can't sit still for board games, he is to hyper all the time, but if you really, really want to do a board game, he'll try.

Octane thinks skateboarding is cool, especially the tricks. He'll probobly ask to see the tricks you know too and he'll cheer you on.

You don't have to worry about him touching you very much because he is always on the go so he doesn't think about touching you much. unless you want it he won't touch you.

The only language he knows is English and Spanish. He'll probobly ask you how to say certain things in the diffrent language's you know, especially cuss words or weird and funny words.

Most of Victoria's tiaras are now in museums or are private property. Queen Victoria left many of her tiaras to her daughters, as most tiaras were designed by Victoria's husband, later Victoria's daughters gave tiaras to their daughters. The only ones that still belong to the royal family are: The Diamond Diadem; and The Indian Circlet. Most of the tiaras that currently belong to the royal family were made in the reign of Maria of Teck, wife of King George V.

I had a hyper fixation of Mary of Teck for about a year as a teenager 😂 Mary was really into jewelry and taking old stuff into making new jewelry.

I'm incredibly interested to see if more of the Greville bequeath will be worn now and they'll start moving from Mary's tiara because of age and I'd imagine that even with the best upkeep, the metal would get progressively fragile as time goes on.

Axsa weaved through the rapt crowd, careful to keep her wings pressed to her back under her wool cloak. It was warm and uncomfortable in the midday sun but she needed to blend in. Axsa danced around the workers, avoiding their heavy boots. The sea of dirt brown shirts and dull blues coveralls pulsed in time with the Grand Duke’s speech. She could barely hear it over their cries and cheers. Probably for the best, it would only make her angry. 

Using elbow and knee, she pushed her way to the stage that was routinely raised in the town square for such events. A crude metal fence separated the crowd from security guards patrolling around the stage. Axsa gave her cloak a tug, hoping it looked like she was simply carrying a clunky pack. She wrapped her left hand—with the ring on her index—around the fence then waited.

Up on the stage, Grand Duke Olson stood behind a large podium, though it didn’t seem quite so large next to him. A large teck screen behind him provided an enlarged view of his speech, a slight glimmer around the edges the only clue to its origin.

The Duke’s royal blue uniform, decorated with a yellow sash for the empire, dotted with many a meaningless medal, contrasted against his dark skin. His round head seemed forcefully screwed into the collar. Nonetheless, Grand Duke Olson was talking animatedly, making grand gestures with his grand hands. This was what he was good at, unfortunately.

“We cannot allow this corruption of our kind to spread,” he spoke passionately. “An evil—a mischievous evil—lurks in every town, every street corner, perhaps even at your dining table! We must control it!”

The crowd roared. Axsa flinched but quickly joined in.

Leeches, she thought, we’re evil only when we stop being of use to you.

Movement drew her eyes to the back of the stage where a few sheets had been put up as makeshift curtains around the screen. A hand peaked through the corner, then a head.

Axsa almost gasped. The Princess. Illegitimate daughter of the Empress and the Grand Duke. Heir of [insert empire name here]. Her waist-length braids loosely tied back, fell across her shoulders, framing her soft brown features. Axsa was surprised to see her in a bland beige dress that hugged her arms and stomach, far from the usual polished extravagance of the ruling family. Perhaps she too wanted to fit in with the people. The Princess was looking over the crowd, frowning slightly. She exuded an air of regal benevolence. Their eyes met. Axsa held her breath. The Princess’ lips quirked up but a shuffling by her feet made her look down.

Axsa felt a tug at her cloak and turned sharply, hissing. She let go of the fence but felt a hand grabbing at her wrist and forcing something into her palm. It was thin with sharp edges, but weighty, and her fingers closed around a small bulge in the otherwise smooth paper. Looking back, all she saw was a security guard making his rounds, his back stating in proud letters SG TO MPRS AND FAMILY. A few curious—or annoyed—glances were sent her way but Axsa ignored them. Careful to keep her eyes up, she placed the square of paper in a pocket then made her way out of the crowd.

Once the stage was out of sight she started running. Her footsteps, loud on the sand coloured stones, echoed through the deserted streets. Everyone was watching the speech, there was no one to catch her. She fled down the roads, careful to keep her wings concealed beneath the cloak but aching to use them.  Axsa ran until she reached the Passage.

The Passage was through a door of a most unusual and ostentatious building. Its thick, mouldy looking bricks were stacked atop each other in a way that hinted at yet undiscovered laws of physics. There were doors where windows should be and hardwood beams sticking out of the walls every which way. The building appeared to be growing out of the ground in the most complex, twisted and impractical way. Yet somehow, there it stood, with a placard boasting ANTIQUE TECK AND MISCELLANEOUS ARTEFACTS nailed above the door closest to the ground. Axsa was always baffled that the Passage had never been breached.

She hopped up three thin steps sticking out the wall to reach the door and looked around. A young boy was watching her. He was holding a bucket and looked to have stopped partway to picking up some litter. Axsa held his gaze for a moment, then lifted her index to her lips. When he showed no sign of leaving, she made a face and shooed him away. The boy rushed into a nearby house.

After double checking her surroundings, Axsa knocked on the door four times fast. Then once more. Then twice more.

It swung open inwards and sucked her in.

No matter how many times Axsa went through the Passage, the experience was always as dizzying as the first time. Colours and lights breezed past, blending and merging and flashing in and out of focus. She could make out some familiar landscapes: the rolling Baker’s Hills, the flashing lights of Duckside Harbour, Faire City with its glimmering spires, the River Spit…

Axsa came to an abrupt stop and nearly stumbled though both her feet were on the ground. She pressed a hand to her stomach and swallowed back its contents with some effort then checked her pocket for the small packet. She stood by the drain on the main street of the village Mother had been running the teck operation from for the last fifteen years. Home.

The sun was still high so most of the people of their small farming town were out in the fields, leaving the plain clay and brick houses, bowed with age under their thatched roofs, mostly empty. Axsa waved to little Marie who was playing with her family cat on the porch. Her answering grin boasted a pair of long canines.

Clang. Clatter. Steel against steel. Then a profound snap.

A tall man stands looming over a tanned Xaela woman with steely bluish hair and red eyes, a single-edged sabre in hand. He sends a lunging knee to her gut, and in the same motion, knocks aside her broken spear with the gauntlet of his “free” hand.

Gansetseg gasps sharply, almost winded from the blow, as she readies her axe. Many warriors twice her size would have certainly been.

“I don’t know why you continue to get in the way. This isn’t your problem, little girl. All I wish is to speak with a certain two-faced companion of yours…”

“Bite me.” She growled in response. “None of us care for your em-pee-reel garbage, and those who once did, do not need your help with their majee-teck.”

“Well that’s rude. You really don’t mince words, do you? …though you do butcher them.”

The man strokes his beard, leaving himself open in a measured display of cocksure arrogance. It was clear from how he parried and destroyed the shaft of the woman’s spear, and scattered a sword and scabbard previously that he was confident this would change nothing.

Gansetseg takes this opportunity to strike; aiming for the wrist to at least disable his sword hand; or failing that, disarm him or damage his blade. Despite all her strength however, her axe is halted by the flat of that thin cavalry sword, with yet another sharp clash of metal against metal.

Once again, she is knocked back and down, this time by the boot of heavy black greaves. The same boot tramples her forearm, forcing her to release the grip on her axe from the pain.

The man leans down, shifting his foot off to hold her aloft by that same forearm.

“Magitek may not be my specialty, young lady; but I will tell you this. Garlean steel is second to none. Against this, anything your primitive forges could make may as well not carry an edge at all.”

John Horgan is shifting gears from politics to business and not just any business. In what is drawing mixed reactions, the former premier is joining the board of Elk Valley Resources, a British Columbia coal-producing company. The business, which Teck Resouces announced in February would be spun off of Teck's metal division into its own separate company, will produce metallurgical coal used to make steel.  Horgan, who announced his resignation as Langford-Juan de Fuca MLA on March 31, once served as the B.C. NDP's energy and mining critic.

Teck Resouces Ltd., a Canadian miner, announced on Feb. 21 that it would change its name to Teck Metals Corp. and spin off its steelmaking coal unit as Elk Valley Resources Ltd.

The unit, which has four mines in Elk Valley, British Columbia, has been plagued by several snags in the past three years, including supply-chain disruptions, adverse weather events, labor shortages, and an outage at the Elkview plant.

Teck Metals will receive an 87.5 percent interest in the gross revenue royalty from the steelmaking coal business through the transition period.

The miner expects the transaction to be completed in the second quarter of 2023.
