"Just take a look at this view!" Donna cried. The Doctor joined her at the window. "I mean what a view," Donna exclaimed. "I've never seen anything like it!"

"I have," replied the Doctor softly. "And so have you."

"The sun, flaming red and gold, across white mountain peaks and crystal valleys? I don't think so!" said Donna.

"And down there?" he asked, pointing.

"What?"

"Down there."

"Where down there?" she asked.

"There down there," he snapped.

"Well, that's– Oh my God!" she said.

"Chiswick?" he suggested.

"That's Chiswick!" she squawked. "What is Chiswick doing down there?"

"In a crystal valley below white mountain peaks above which the sun is flaming red and gold, you mean?" he asked.

"Yes."

"Well, that's the real question," the Doctor replied.

He opened the window latches, slid the pane aside, and reached out. His fingers touched something invisible and the view, mountains and Chiswick alike, rippled like water.

"It's a telesensual holocunation," he said as he closed the window.

"A what? You're just getting me back for the plywood thing, aren't you?" said Donna.

"It's feeding off our thoughts," he said. "It's bleeding our memories. And replicating a composite view to make us both feel at home."

"'It'? Who's 'it'?"

"This building," the Doctor said.

Donna looked at him. "Wait, I'm checking... nope, I don't understand what you're saying."

"Neither do I," he replied with a fragile grin. "It's just a hunch."

"How is it making us both feel at home?" she asked.

The Doctor pointed down at Chiswick. "That's you, Donna Noble," he said. He raised his hand and pointed at the mountains. "And that's me."

"You?"

"That's Gallifrey."

Donna opened her mouth. "That's what it looked like?"

"Yes," he said.

"It's so beautiful!"

"Yes, it was," he replied. "It really was."

NineRiver is everything to me

well, I say that for all DoctorRiver pairings lol but [seagull squawks] the NineRiver audios are everything to me now and I have thoughts thunking around about it.

[POTENTIAL SPOILERS. DO NOT READ AHEAD IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILERED]

Swipe Right felt stilted to me at first but then I realized maybe that's how it was meant to be. It was the first time River met that regeneration of the Doctor's who's fresh out of the Time War. She had to learn how to vibe with him. The continuous "I'll NEVER marry you. I don't do that." made my heart hurt honestly and I just wanted to hug River 😭 Nine may be brutally honest but he's also so kind and we see that soft!Nine in Archipelago.

Then with Face of the Apocalypse, ohh it hit me right in the gut. It made me laugh too honestly 😆 Doctor Sweetie and Miss Curly Hair <3 then I ended up bawling lmao

With the last audio, Archipelago, ohhh. I haven't been the same person I was before I listened to that audio. I have been irrevocably changed. That audio is now on the same level as Someone I Once Knew (4River). I also love how this smashes any belief that River forces the Doctor to have sex with her or do anything that the Doctor is uncomfortable with. Nine is asexual and River adjusted herself accordingly. They grew old TOGETHER and River was happy enough just holding hands with him and exchanging stories, truths with each other that no other Doctor or River will ever know.

Anyways, I've done my best to hold back from too many spoilers. SO I RECOMMEND Y'ALL TO LISTEN TO STAR CROSSED RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

The Eighth Doctor once became depressed with his model train set because he wanted something less perfect. After he returned from an adventure, he found that a disaster had occurred among his model trains. When he went to clean up, he saw that the miniature people in his train set had started putting things right, so he decided to let them fix it themselves and hopefully learn things from the experience. At one point, the Doctor switched out the TARDIS stereo system for a micromodulator switch, which is capable of shrinking things, and forgot about it. The Tenth Doctor and Rose were accidentally shrunk using it, and while shrunk, he got stuck in a spider web. (Comic: Which Switch?)

Type 1 TARDISes were notoriously temperamental and sometimes attacked and consumed the scientists working on them. When the Eleventh Doctor managed to calm one down after winding up in early Gallifrey, Rassilon noticed this and had him work on developing Type 1s, taking advantage of his advanced knowledge. When these scientists had asked who the Doctor was, he eventually decided to let everyone call him Theta-Sigma. (Comic: The Lost Dimension)

Vortex drillers were used by early Gallifreyans to tunnel through the time vortex. They were discontinued because of the damage this did to time. They kind of looked like castles, but instead of turrets, there were drills. There would be altars for Gallifreyan cults inside, and they had mineralic circuitry. (Audio: The Auton Infinity)

"Theta Sigma" was simply a unique identifier used by the Doctor in his youth. It should not be spoken out loud outside of the Academy (not that this ever stopped many people who knew him at the time). (Novel: Falls the Shadow)

Georgia Tennant returns as Jenny in Saving Time, a brand-new box set of four full-cast audio adventures from Big Finish Productions.  

Introduced in the 2008 Doctor Who television episode The Doctor’s Daughter, Jenny is the artificially created offspring of the Tenth Doctor. After escaping Messaline at the end of her debut story, she now stars in her own series of travels across time and space. Georgia Tennant, also known for TV series including Merlin and Staged, has reprised the role on audio numerous times since. 

At the end of her last adventure, in 2021 release Still Running, Jenny had escaped the pursuit of the cyborg bounty hunter COLT-5000, also known as Geraldine. But now, she’s being pursued by another version of COLT-5000, which used to be her best friend Noah (Sean Biggerstaff). 

What happens next will be revealed in Jenny – The Doctor’s Daughter: Saving Time, due for release in October, and now available for pre-order as a collector’s edition CD box set (+ download) for just £29.99 and as a digital download only for £22.99, exclusively here.

Cos I complain a lot in this blog about Big Finish cover art despite me loving Big Finish products, let me give my opinion on all Jago & Litefoot covers.

S1 basic, you can see the clash of poor quality rip of Jago & Litefoot’s appearances from The Talons of Weng-Chiang and the ridiculously crisp pictures of Dr. Tulp and digitally created werewolf and stuff, but it is not ugly, and it communicates the inside content rather well.

S2 The same problems as above, especially the poor quality picture chosen for Litefoot drives me nuts in how ugly it is. Gabriel Sanders looks cool, tho I never imagined him looking like that based on audio.

S3 Just about the best of the early season, basically the best quality photos for Jago & Litefoot they ever had in their disposal, and that particular picture of Jago is for that exact reason reused multiple times. This one also has a thought put into composition and visual interest.

S4 I love the Kempson & Hardwick part of, just these black and white eery images, but the portraits or J&L, Leela and the Doctor are ugly as sin and I wanna rip my eyes out.

Voyage to Venus: Beautiful. This one I would buy as a poster. Sure it looks a collage of images glued together, but it fits the sort of whimsical Jules Verse - style of the story. This will clearly influence the latter half of the covers, but none of the others Make the sort of awkwardness of digital composition work for it.

Voyage to the New World: Ugly as sin. I would make a better one eyes closed.

S5 The worst quality of Jago & Litefoot portrait pictures so far, you can almost count the pixels with your own eyes xDDD Still, my favorite of the early cover by a long mile by just the trippyness of it and how lovingly their profiles combine into this psychedelic circle.

S6 Last of the old style of covers. Tries to be S3 but isn’t.

S7 First of the new, higher quality covers that have clearly gone through more substansial level of graphic design. Litefoot has been photoshopped with Homburg hat and Jago with a bowler, and that’s just  adorable and fitting their social status.

S8 My favorite of the new cover style. Quite frankly, they never came close to merging the poor references and digital mashes so well. The Scorchies are just delightfully cursed and the fire of the New Regency theatre ring lighting their heads, ah <3 I love it, I am actually making a big Jago wall decoration based out this one in particular.

S9 I really loved this one when I first saw it, but it has kinda annoyed me since... I don’t think the elements are particularly well blended together, and it kinda looks like random pictures overlayed with each other. First time Jago is pushed forwards in the composition tho, which is interesting trope that comes around - maybe as a reflection of his internal belief that he’s a protector of Litefoot haha.

S10 Same problems as above, but where as S9 was still pleasing enough to look at, this just makes me angry. And Summerton looks nothing like like I imagined either xD

S11 Second time Jago is pushed forwards. The Master looks good, so does the 6th Doctor in flamboyant but still period accurate clothing, but it’s still kinda awkward in composition.

S12 I hate it. I hate it so much. Everyone looks like a papercut out - which granted, I am willing to forgive with Litefoot, as it is the fake!Scarlet Gallery!Litefoot, but jesus no.

S13 This one I hate the most. I’ve ranted on my blog about this one in particular so many times it’s not even funny. Why is Litefoot inside a hexagon of shame? Why is Dr. Betterman there, but he’s not accompanied my Mr. Aubrey? The LOW POLY RATS. The awkward way Xiu Xiu looks straight at the camera when Jago doesn’t I hate it. I hate it so much.

Jago & Litefoot Forever: Basically just S1 redux, with same faults and benefits. Kinda fitting for something that was fairly designed as series finale.

Jago & Litefoot Revival: Cute, I love the gimmick of you having the room to choose if you want Tenth or Eleventh Doctor on the cover. Nothing much fancier than that, it’s a short trip after all.

S14 Funny thing, I had exactly the opposite reaction to this one than S9, that I really made a gnarly expression when I saw it the first time. Reusing the the same old picture of Jago they used so many times and coupling it with a picture of Litefoot, that I get feeling was some unrelated to DW picture of Trevor Baxter edited to suit the cover made me cringe. Plus the lantern is is held very awkwardly, like it has no wight at all. But somehow it’s become my second favorite of the new covers and like, maybe fourth in overall ranking. You can’t really go wrong wit blue-orange color scheme, plus all the element in it are coherent and relevant.

My top five is rather obvious, from bottom up S7, S5, S14, S8, Voyage to Venus. 

The worst of the worst are Voyage to the New World and S13, especially S13 I seriously wish they would just do a new one.

He was sliding back further, his eyes were wide, the edge of the corrupted deck sliced apart like clay between his clawing fingers.

"Don't you dare fall!" she hollered. "You told me you wouldn't let me fall, well I won't let you fall either."

"I don't think," the Doctor grunted. "It's gonna work like that."

The Nightmare of Black Island

I wasn’t going to write a review for this book but I guess I’m back by (un)popular demand!

(Like, I literally had ONE (1) ask that was liked like 4 times)

The plot is pretty simple, the Doctor and Rose arrive at an island where monsters come to life at night. They must solve the mystery that surrounds the people on the island and the children that play in the forest, all combined with a haunted mansion of horrors and an honest to god monster and not-really-a-villain kind of villain. 

The characters are compelling, and you can understand their train of thought and decisions. Even the characters that barely appear are really thought of. I really liked how Rose makes friends with the kids and that’s how they start to unravel the mystery. The Doctor’s manic energy is on point in this novel, and the dialogues are perfect. The characterization is really impeccable for both of them.

But this novel also gives me all the Doctor-and-Rose feels.

First, the novel starts with the Doctor making repairs on the TARDIS and Rose sleeping in the jumpseat with the Doctor’s coat over her and the Doctor looking at her like he’s an idiot in love.

Second, the reason why they get to the island is because Rose and the TARDIS share a dream. Since there are signals that the TARDIS is picking up, and since she shares a deep connection to Rose, they both have the same “dream” and I love that. The TARDIS and Rose’s connection always makes me so mushy inside, and when it’s mentioned, especially in the novels, it always makes me scream inside. And! The Doctor uses that connection to talk telepathically to Rose, which, you know, *chef’s kiss*

The novel is just a simple  adventure but the way it is written and narrated is really light and fun and I would definitely recommend it if you’re a Doctor/Rose shipper.

Also, I don’t know if you knew, but in the second edition of the Doctor and Rose’s novels (Ninth and Tenth Doctor), Rose was taken from the covers???? OUTRAGEOUS!

Good Omens: Italian and French version.

I read for the first time Good Omens in English thinking that the religious topic would be a bother to me but was actually very enjoyable. 

Then I decided to read it in Italian and French, and I saw the series in these 3 languages to see the differences between the sub/dub and guys...what experience.  So here a list of strange differences that made me laugh/cry/get angry as fuck cause knowing different languages is always a funny road to Hell:

--In Italian, the tittle’s book isn’t Good Omens (that should translate in Buona profezia), but it would sound weird, so they changed it in “Buona Apocalisse a tutti!” (Happy Apocalypse, Everyone!) Honestly, a mood.

--Let’s take a moment to appreciate the two covers book of two different editions from the Italian version. I have the first one where we have this two cute thingy embraced and the second one is...ahahah just look how Crowley seems distraught by Aziraphale. I can hear him muttering “What the fuck, angel.”

--When in a book/series they change the name of some character it’s always a pain to me but at least in Good Omens made me laugh so hard that I felt sick so I think that at the end of the day is fine. In the Italian version, Aziraphale is “Azraphel”, and I can still hear the translators discussing: “Oh, Aziraphale is too difficult to pronounce, we should change it.” “Ok, how should we call him?” “Azraphel.” “But...” “It’s easier to pronounce.” *whispering* “Dude, it isn’t.” --But in the French version, they did even worse since that “Anthony J. Crowley” is “Terrence Rampa”. (Why. Just why. Have you all drunk too much champagne in the shadow of the Eiffel tower on a full moon? How could you ever think it was a good idea? It isn’t pronounced more easily, I don’t have a perfect French pronunciation, but Terrence Rampa doesn’t sound better in French. For the love of someone, stop it.) While in the series is Anthony J. Rampa. (You just decided to make angry, admit it.) --The “Angel” thingy. Ok, you see, Angelo in Italian is a common name (it’s one of my brother’s names lmao) and God forbid we get confused so in the book we have “Angioletto.” (little angel but 300% cuter) and we have “Angelo Mio” (My angel, but you should read it like a lover gently whispering this on your ear while you’re waking after a night you spent kissing in bed, cause I’m pretty sure 100% of the people thought about this while they were reading it.) --The “Angel” thingy in French is even more romantic. You can’t call me “Mon Ange” without make me going on a mental trip where we will get married in a summer day on the beach, and then spend the rest of my life cooking something nice for lunch while our children, Mohamed and Genevieve, play soccer together, and my lovely wife is tending the garden. (Cause we don’t stand for gender roles) --The voices. Ok, maybe is cause I saw Good Omens with the original audio too many times...but how is it possible that we fucked up with the actor dubber? Guys, we’re usually good at this. Crowley's voice is Christian Iansante that it wasn’t a big surprise and a little less disappointing since I spent all my childhood hearing his voice since he dubbed the tenth doctor. But Aziraphale’s voice is so wrong. Isn’t him at all. 0/100 guys, they didn’t even try.  --In the French version Aziraphale is perfect cause...he’s so anxious. It made me laugh so hard, there’s the car scene where is going to have a heart attack.  The Bastille scene made me crack cause I was curious to know how they would show that he didn’t know how to speak french (How’s that possible? I mean he talks Japanese but not french? but...during Madame Tracy’s possession he asks “Parlez-vous français?” Aziraphale, just admit you wanted to show your bomb-ass outfit to Crowley and get over it.) ahem, anyway, in that scene he just stutters and says “Sorry, I’m anxious.” My father reaction was: *whipping his own tears away* “Me too, Aziraphale.”

--Ligur French’s voice is sexy. Like...obscenely hot.  I watched the french version for the first time with my girlfriend (she’s French) and the conversation after his first line was like: *Ligur first line* My girlfriend: “Oh, oui, bend me over your desk Monsieur Ligur and punish me cause I’ve been a bad girl.” “Babe, I’m still here.” *Ligur’s second line* “Ok, I see your point, but still...” We also had a little fight over “Is the Crowley-radio-version voice or Ligur French voice sexier?” and seems like, after a night spent discussing, Ligur won, but I still stand for Crowley’s voice being sexier just for the principle of things.  --In the Italian version Crowley doesn't say “Ciao.” but “au revoir“ and when Ligur asked, “What does it mean?”  Hastur said “French, it means food.” but the word “French” is told with so much disgust that made me crack cause I see that we still put our long rivalry between French and Italians on display. Knowing this is so much funnier. 

--Again, the Italian's version book made a change that I didn’t understand for a long time (we discussed it with my father for so long and drag in this hellhole my whole family) cause in the book Crowley isn’t a demon but a devil. After so long, my grandmother just dropped the bomb informing us that “Demons are good or bad entities, but devils are the fallen angels who revolted against God and followed Satan.” so it’s more accurate say to say Crowley is a devil, not a demon.  Honestly, I think that in Good Omens universe works better the word demon since the whole point of the book was that angels and demons aren’t good or evil, they just playing their role but they can be as much good as evil. (Aziraphale is a bastard, Crowley is kind) --Remaining on this topic for a moment, I always had this feeling that the angels are more similar from the Muslim vision of angels. For them, Angels can have flaws and make mistakes and aren’t perfect since only God is perfect. Or at least, I’m atheist, and my cousin explained this to me, so I’m open to any discussion.

--Wow. In the french version Crowley (I refuse to call him Rampa) is rude. He calls Aziraphale “Ducon” that is a common swear in French but disagreeable, Crowley wouldn’t ever call Aziraphale that way. Crowley, I know that you just had a tough week but wow, not cool buddy.

  --I mean, I knew that watching Good Omens in French and Italian would make me cry considering we don’t have the whole gender-neutral pronouns, but I don’t see why you should confusing me this way. At least French decided to stay with one pronoun and deal with it while Italian is just...ok, I understand we are chaotic by nature but can we stop just for a moment? God has a female voice (good, cause I would have riot) but they use male pronouns for them. Why? Too worried to get excommunicated by the pope? We still get anxious at the idea that God could be a woman? Guys, it’s 2020, get over it. Michael pronouns are male, and this is fair to me cause I have a whole headcanon about this and I will write it soon.  Pollution pronouns are female, male, female again. The translator must have thought “If we change enough times, they won’t notice.” Beelzebub is female (Uhm), but they still use “Lord” Beelzebub and it’s ok I presume (Hey, women can be Lords too!) No, it sounds horrible considering we had this bad habit to translate everything...Signor Beelzebub sounds like they’re in charge of a carnival parade, not Hell. We could stay with “Lord” and no one would get confused by this cause we know that “Lord” is a noble title in England and this is a British comedy. We don’t have to translate everything-everything.  I mean, for these characters...why didn’t use the plural? Would sound a bit weird at start maybe but at least no one would be offended. (Not that I’m offended, to be clear, but someone could be.)

--The Italian version made me burst in flame at some point when I noticed that they tried to cancel the whole thing “Aziraphale and Crowley are a couple” avoiding every time the “my angel” in the dubb. I didn’t notice the first time, but Hell. Fortunately, Micheal Sheen and David Tennant make us saw the love even without words. Also, a point for Christian Iansante, Crowley’s dubber, cause he can make a high pitch voice when his character is panicking. We cried for “Non Voglio Andarmene.” (I don’t want to go) from Doctor who with him, we cried for the bookshop fire cause Crowley is 1000% more upset than the original version. (We stand for the drama) At the end of the day, I still remain on the facts that books and series/films should be read/watch with the original audio. I also think that reading/watching them in other languages is very interesting and a lot of fun, so I don’t think I have a definite opinion. It’s just fun. For the voices, I was convinced by Crowley for the Italian version and for Aziraphale from the french, while Italian Aziraphale is a big no and “Rampa” is rude and seems...he isn’t Crowley. I don’t know how to explain.  From the back, someone is saying that the only voice that is winning is PornFrenchLigur and I have to agree with this.
