“Typical girls fall under spells.”
When I’m deep in the throes of self-doubt, it’s nice when folks stumble onto pieces I’m really proud of and have lost perspective on. My injury still has me feeling pretty cruddy, but I have hope. 🤕 Ari and the gang are available in the shop.
Découvrez l’histoire palpitante du premier groupe de punk féminin anglais, The Slits, petites sœurs des Sex Pistols et des Clash
Elles étaient quatre et venaient d’univers sociaux extrêmement variés.
Elles s’appelaient Viv Albertine, Ari Up, Palmolive et Tessa Pollit.
:0 i did actually have to really think about this for a while because a lot of the music i listen to the bass is sort of. nothing special. lol average bass player moment BUT john paul jones from led zeppelin is an amazing bassist and i don't listen to them much atm but when i do i'm always like mmmhm damn fantastic bass on this song. and it's not even his first instrument or anything like damn. the lemon song just. damn. andy rourke from the smiths also, almost forgot about him.
and it's not all the same person, but the bass on joni mitchell's album court & spark is really really cool as well, very jazz.
bassists i think are cool regardless of actual musical skill - kim gordon, tina weymouth, the woman from the slits who's name i can't remember at the moment TESSA POLLIT that's her <3 not sure exactly what she's doing but her bass parts are pretty cool. and mick harvey, but he doesn't always play bass, but i like him even though i really don't know much about him at all.

FINALLY found the time to completely wrap up my Slits tribute. As I get older I find myself more and more awestruck by these scary badasses. Prints are available in the shop and you can read about my process via my website.
