[Video description: In Playstation 1 graphics, an old man walks onto a snowboard course with his walker. He clips the snowboard through his walker, holding it for a second, and blasts off into the sky. Electronic music plays throughout; the beat drops when he flies away.
/End description]
I beg my followers to check out Battle Tapes' music video for their song "Brand New" - since I figure most people don't click on Youtube links, I took the liberty of using some tools to clip just the beat drop.
The rest of the video is just as good as this.
Here's the link; it's inline instead of embedded because it's 3am and I'm paranoid that people on Tumblr go "ew an embedded Youtube link": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp6an4eVzP8
#battle tapes#battle tapes - brand new#you would definitely believe how much trouble I had with VLC getting this to clip correctly#once I tried getting a 3-second long clip and it kept getting it wrong even though I KNEW what timestamps I was hitting “record” on#thankfully this clip is longer and a little more flexible on what timestamps are fine to record and which ones completely miss the highligh#and the ending timestamp was just...right on. Right on.#anyway VLC doesn't know how to convert files for the casual user#I had to use a web-browser based thing to do it#the tools I used:#4K Video downloader Plus (free): to get the full Youtube video because VLC couldn't stream it from the link#VLC: to clip the video down to just 10-ish seconds#Free Convert (website): to convert from .asf to .mp4 because VLC couldn't do it for me#siiiiigggh anyway hope you all enjoy this beat drop#maybe it's just recency bias that makes me think this music video is so good#oddly enough getting that inline link to work also took some doing#it either didn't create a link or it automatically embedded; couldn't choose like I can with links to other sites#Opened up a new tab. Draft a new post with its own link. Turned to HTML editor. Copied and pasted it here in this post (also turned to HTML#editor) and then replaced the link reference and the text.#and strangely during that time period I tried using AO3 links which weren't embedding either.#Link that I ended up using to get an inline link was the link to download VLC which. ha. Been having trouble there as I've said in the post#oh and by the way: all links embed at first. But in the lower-right corner there's a little bubble you can click to turn it to inline.#but for some reason that doesn't work with youtube links#aaaaaanyway#I'm done. Finally.#music#videos runnerpost#has description

Those familiar with the Annotated Compendium are probably aware of how interpreting who is saying literally any of the dialogue is entirely dependent on the text color. Now, if the next thing you think of is "wait, doesn't that make it unreadable for colorblind people and for people with screen readers," you're asking the right questions.
That's why I'm happy to announce that I have gone through it and added dialogue tags that go before each line that should be readable by screen readers, and they should also show if the work skin is disabled (manually or by downloading it).

I see it so clearly.
Through the crack in the wall.
Behind God’s back.
Hell colored, electric and constant.
We’re already here.

hey Dynamic! Just wanted to know, how do make the links work in your pinned post? :P
Hello! :D
Okay, so. I input tag links, that take you to that specific tag only on my blog.
I will use the tag "Scarlett Post" as an example below.
First I open up a Tumblr Chrome tab, and type in the tag on the search bar for my blog.
Tumblr media
Then I'll reload the page and make sure the link shows up, something like this.
Tumblr media
I copy that to my clipboard.
I go and find my Masterpost, and click the edit button.
Tumblr media
Once inside the post, I'll write "#Scarlett Post" and select the text I want to put a link on.
Tumblr media
I click that link button.
When the box shows up, I paste the previously copied link into it.
Tumblr media
Then I just save the post.
Bam. :>

Genuine question, but is there a reason people keep transcribing alt text image descriptions into reblogs?
Alt text is like. Where image descriptions are Actually supposed to go, on any social media that offers it, right? So if an op writes descriptions and puts it in the alt text, why does it also need to be in a reblog?
Does tumblr's alt text option not work with screen readers or something?

Man Idk why this just came back to mind but I remember when I was in grade 5 I took a class on game development at the local college (idk how the fuck I was allowed in there lol) and the only thing I remember was my instructor having absolutely no idea how to program a combat system at all
I asked him how to program like, attacks and health bars and shit and he just told me point blank "I don't know."
I was just like "ah fair enough" and just never questioned it, but like, in hindsight that feels kinda weird though tbh

i just couldnt really understand the stuff on your blog and i wasnt sure if all the ''are you a terf'' asks were because of something transphobic you'd done or said since whenever i've seen the word terf before the accused was transphobic or something so i thought i'd ask because im not patient enough to scroll for ages on a blog tbh
(to be completely honest i barely understand what terf means i just understand its something bad)
maybe consider where the accusations you were seeing were coming from and what they were trying to say

I want to make an au or a story or shine thing where time messes up. And a bunch of versions of the main character are pulled through time to one specific time period. One from about every 3 years. Except they’re not pulled through space. So the first part of the story is two high school aged main character (including the one who didn’t change times and stayed in their correct time while everyone else moved to them) freaking out, and then they start receiving confused texts from their bffs from middle school who are responding questions that they’re not receiving. Anyways, they figure out pretty fast that there’s a version of them from middle school running around as well, and have to manage to pick that kid up from school. Next issue is getting their elementary school and preschool versions of themselves. They may be slightly wanted by the police for kidnapping a child from daycare, but does it really count if the child you are kidnapping is yourself?
They’ve also discovered by sending emails and DMs to themselves and praying that the older versions of themself still have the same accounts and that their devices still use the same network connection protocols, that there’s at least two college aged versions of themself floating around as well.
Basically the first part of the story is everyone’s panicked journey to figure out what the hell is going on, how many of us are there, and how to get everyone in one place.
This is of course complicated by the fact that people only traveled through time with what was on their person. Thankfully, one of the college versions was in their car at the time and the car came with them. (They have no idea how they didn’t crash). Although they were more than a little worried about driving around in a car with license plates from the future, as well as being only two years old with a hundred thousand miles on it.
College versions of mc go on a road trip to get back to their hometown, and pick up the rest of the kids. Having two cars (one from senior in college, and one from high school) comes in handy when you’ve got multiple kids that need car seats. (The car seats were stolen from a local store. They’ve already got kidnapping on their record, why not add theft?)
Older versions are annoyingly vague about the past, trying to avoid causing a paradox. But there’s also only so much that you can hide. (Think of going back to November of 2019 and trying to be normal when you see a news article about this new virus going around in China)
Anyways I have no ideas for what could have possibly caused this, or what to do with the gang once they all regroup.I’m guessing they would try to fix the issue. Everyone would go back to their home time, probably with a memory wipe to avoid paradoxes.
They could probably manage to leave behind some little notes or letters or something for the version whose home time it was.

I have to recommend Copy Me That
You can use it in browser, but there is an app for Android and Apple iOS. There's no limit to how many recipes you can have, even in the free version!
The paid subscription is mainly extra features, and I've been fine without it for the last couple years. They're also cool with password sharing a premium account; they actually encourage it!
I'm not sure if it still allows this, but in the past I was able to get recipes that were behind a paywall.
You should be starting a recipe book. I don't give a shit if you're only 20-years-old. The modern web is rotting away bit by bit before our very eyes. You have no idea when that indie mom blog is going down or when Pinterest will remove that recipe. Copy it down in a notebook, physically or digitally. Save it somewhere only you can remove it. Trust me, looking for a recipe only to find out it's been wiped off the internet is so fucking sad. I've learned my lesson one too many times.

every once in a while I'll see someone complain about ads or notifications or spotify or not being able to get shows they took off streaming, and I get the ice-water dunk of remembering that my technology experience is not the norm

today was the day we finalized the migration of essential software at work from some old and busted shit that was ready to die at any time, to the new cloud version of the same software that we are no longer responsible for maintaining. which is good because no one was actually maintaining ours. it's just been slowly crufting into unusability for a decade. so anyway they set aside an hour for a teams meeting where they'd walk us through the different interface and how to go through normal processes.
"it's not that big a change," they said. "it's all the same stuff, it just looks a little different," they said.
they did not account for the fact that the primary user of this software is someone who doesn't actually know how it works or what it's doing. they learned how to do their job entirely through rote memorization. they know which buttons they are supposed to press in which order, and that is the full extent of what they know. they also did not account for the fact that this person's processes were learned thirdhand from other people who were not using this software normally to begin with.
it's like. imagine if someone had only ever used tumblr in the app. and you try to get them to use it in a desktop browser, but they cannot figure out how to post. and you go through explaining where the button is and how to format text and add tags, even though you could have sworn it was all the same in the app. but then they're like, "okay, but what's the phone number" and you're like "what" and they're like "the phone number to call to make a post?" and it turns out somehow they still had the ability to post by calling a phone number, and every time they posted on the app they called the post in first and then edited the audio post to transcribe it into text before screenshotting the text for a photo post. and nothing you can say to them will make them understand that none of that is necessary or correct. they shouldn't have even been able to do some of that. they can just type into the post box now, like a civilized person. "okay," they say, "but what is the phone number, though? because when i made my account my friend gave me this checklist and the first thing on it is to call the number."
so anyway we were on that teams call for almost three hours and they still don't have a handle on the new software
