Eeeey where my fellow purple-bitches at? Cause KidK made this scarf with us in mind. It's purple, it's wavy, it's sparkily, it's the total package! Honestly I'm shocked it hasn't sold yet, it's gorgeous and really fairly priced.
It's for sale here on our Etsy page, so check it out and enjoy!

Fast Fashion 101 - What on Earth is Fast Fashion in 2021
Growing up, shopping was an episodic occurrence when I was a teen, and that was some twenty years ago. A millennial, now in my thirties must contend with endless choices, the allure of retail happiness and instant gratification that 'Fast fashion' has transpired into being. My reality has changed, and shopping now has unexpectedly become a daily and weekly hobby. At ultra-cheap rates, we now get cool, fashionable clothes and fashion labels earn higher profits in terms of sheer global sales volumes. In this complete win-win situation, everyone from businesses to customers, all seem rather happy, so what is the problem then? Let's begin by recognizing what fast fashion really is including the realities and impact surrounding its ecosystem.
Fast Fashion Defined
"Fast Fashion can be defined as inexpensive, trendy clothing that samples ideas from trending catwalks or popular celebrity culture and then incorporates them into consumer clothing churned out around the clock at Breakneck Speed in high street stores across the globe."
The basic concept is to sell fashionable clothing at affordable prices for mass consumption. So much so that the fear of missing out on the next trend will drive you to make room in your wardrobe to buy more at prices you really can afford. The fashion industry created clothes for 4 seasons until the 1950s. In advance, clothes were designed according to the intuition and predictions of the designer and taste-maker on what they felt the customers would want to wear and anything game changing that could potentially appeal to the customer and the competitive but stratified market place. You'll be shocked to know nowadays, fashion brands run about 52 micro-seasons a year! They receive weekly or even bi-weekly shipments of new clothing collections. By ensuring that there is always something new to bring to them, they ensure that a customer never gets sick with their inventory.
The Sustainability Crisis Plaguing Fast Fashion
Tumblr media
Fast fashion has turned many a ranks poisonous to the fashion industry. It encourages the notion that it is a fashion faux pas to repeat an outfit more than once. It is not clear, however, whether this 'hookup culture' was initiated by quick fashion in the fashion industry or the other way around. Quick fashion companies have built a powerful brand image for themselves, reminding us of how cool it is to wear their clothing. Such brands are extremely common, particularly among teens and young people.
Negative Environmental Impact
The apparel industry is the environment's second-largest polluter, the oil industry being the lead. The processing of clothing and textiles releases around 1.2 billion tons of greenhouse gases per year. That is approximately more than the total emissions from all international flights and shipping, to give you an idea. Development of clothing and footwear accounted for 8.1 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions in 2019, or as much as the overall climate effect of the European Union as a whole. And it is not that. Clothing manufacturing uses a lot of precious resources which are already scarce. For example, it takes 20,000 liters of water to produce 1kg of cotton.
Our once-thriving rivers have been killed by the wastewater effluent from factories. Our water source and food chain are inundated by tiny plastic microfibers, shed by synthetic clothes during washing. The time has come for us to change our clothing habits.
The Global Labor Market
Tumblr media
You must be thinking, if you've come this far, how do these companies sell clothes at such low prices? It's clear. To lower manufacturing costs and thereby increase income, fashion labels abuse their employees. Overseas, they export production to developing countries such as Bangladesh, India, and China, where they get cheap labor. Such workers are underpaid and overworked. There is one such instance of Kylie and Kendall Jenner refusing to pay their garment workers in Bangladesh.
Sometimes, the staff are also women and sometimes kids. Under unsafe working conditions, they work, ignorant of their rights. Rana Plaza, a garment factory in Bangladesh, collapsed in 2013, killing a total of 1,134 individuals and injuring thousands. Owing to shoddy construction, the building collapsed; too many floors and way too many heavy machineries for the structure to withstand. This very factory, among others, manufactured clothes for brands such as Benetton, Prada, Gucci, Versace, Mango. Today, also 7 years after this incident, we are still far behind in protecting the rights of workers.

Brands involved in Fast Fashion
You'd be shocked to know how many fast fashion brands are among the very popular and sophisticated labels around us. What looks nice and costs less, we usually pick up. But how the fabric was made is what we don't know.
Guess Mango Forever 21 Adidas H&M Zara Gap
Did you know that Zara has 6,000 stores worldwide and produces about 840 million items of clothing every year alone? And while these brands are committed to the environment, their contributions are also ambiguous and deceptive.
Read more: H&M, Zara, and other fashion brands are tricking shoppers with vague sustainability claims
The Alternatives - Sustainable Fashion, Eco-Fashion and Ethical Fashion
If the world you inhabit today is to be preserved for a future generation then the clothes we wear must be produced sustainably, they have to be eco-friendly and the manufacturing process must be ethical respect international Human Rights and labor laws. More and more individuals are turning away from quick fashion with rising understanding. Many brands have switched towards making sustainable apparel in response to this. Although they may not be as famous, they are the ones that we need. What you need to look for is 'sustainable' as well as 'ethical' apparel the next time you shop. Here are some brands of sustainable apparel available in India—

Hello all! I’m working on building my own portfolio site which will also host a new shop for my embroideries since Etsy is not working out anymore with some of their changes. If you’d like to show some support this would be a wonderful way! Art school is not cheap so this has unfortunately been on the back burner 🖤🖤
