How do other Seekers tell Thundercracker and Ion Storm apart?
Thanks for the question, totally anonymous nonny. I know it's difficult to believe because they are so different but some beings, even other Seekers, have gotten Thundercracker and Ion Storm confused.
Alt-mode:
Both Thundercracker and Ion Storm have had Cybertronian vehicular alternate modes like blue tetrajets which sometimes had red detailing.
Ion Storm less often shows red detailing than Thundercracker does.
Lighting and atmospheric conditions can make it difficult to tell but Thundercracker more often prefers Sky Blue while Ion Storm prefers Electric Blue.
Thundercracker has spent more time stationed on Earth and has kept up with various Earth fighter jet alternate modes, many of which are blue with red, white, and black detailing
Sometimes Thundercracker goes through a dark phase when he feels superior and exhibits a 'stealth' deco that is navy blue with purple wing stripes.
Some Thundercrackers are pretty metallic blue cars.
Bot-mode:
Thundercracker's deco is usually blue with color blocking like a white 'bikini' and black 'gloves', 'hat', and 'shoes'.
Ion Storm's deco is usually overall blue with smaller amounts of gray, white, or black, and is consistently more blue through the torso than Thundercracker.
When Thundercracker is in a dark phase he replaces the sky blue and white in his deco with Navy and Gunmetal and wears purple wingstripes.
Ion Storm is very bright.
Negative polarity -Thundercracker is so bright he's neon.
We're not sure Ion Storm is any different between negative and positive polarity universes.
Small details:
Both Thundercracker and Ion Storm have had red optics.
Thundercracker sometimes has warm amber optics.
It would make sense if Ion Storm had very bright blue optics, like lightening blue-white bright, but it's probably difficult to capture an image of this.
Thundercracker usually has an amber canopy.
Ion Storm occasionally does not have an amber canopy, in which cases it might be acid green or pale blue-white in color.
Both Thundercracker and Ion Storm often have light colored faceplates, ranging from white to light gray to silver.
Ion Storm may or may not have any chin ornamentation.
If Thundercracker does show chin ornamentaion then it is more often in a darker contrasting color to his faceplate.
Sometimes Thundercracker has noticeable optic liner, but this is more often when he's been working with Slipstream.
Thundercracker wears spectacles to help him focus on reading and writing tasks, and accidentally looks dashing.
If Ion Storm wears spectacles it is mainly to intentionally create a dashing scientist aesthetic.
Special Abilities:
Thundercracker can create sonic booms, Thunder, if you will.
Ion Storm can electrokinetically create EMPs; he brings the lightning.
Personality:
Thundercracker and Ion Storm both love the sky, but While Thundercracker loves the views and flying above those tiny bots down there, Ion Storm likes playing with lightning.
Thundercracker thinks fairly highly of himself - he can fly, he has a special ability that is useful now and then, and he's a good writer, actually - but he can be tempted to look down on others for not being as good at him to make himself feel superior, like deciding maybe Skywarp isn't so smart or that Starscream is so smart he's geeky.
Ion Storm knows he's good at what he does and he manages to stick to what he does best - generating EMPs and influence the weather - rather than focus on comparisons.
Thundercracker does want to belong to a group of freedom fighting warriors, but he wants to think he's an honorable warrior who can spare those who don't look strong enough to fight back.
Ion Storm also wants to belong to a group of freedom-fighting warriors, but understands oppressive regimes will take advantage of honorable people so revolutionaries must be able to use violence when necessary, whether the target is the entire senate or a few bots with their dangerously intelligent human companion.
Relationships:
Thundercracker is often seen flying with Starscream, but is near as often with Skywarp and occasionally works or flies with Slipstream.
Ion Storm is almost always with fellow Rainmakers Acid Storm and Nova Storm.
If Ion Storm received orders from Shockwave he would probably follow them unless maybe Starscream or Megatron were present to say otherwise.
Thundercracker might even occasionally dare to question Starscream or even Megatron's plans (but it would be scary) and if he got an order from Shockwave he'd probably check with Starscream if he really needed to follow it.
Ion Storm has no known pets.
One of Thundercracker's Earthling companions is a dog.
CID/IFF:
A bunch of alien robots with jet modes are going to have their own combat identification systems to identify friend from foe, so of course Thundercracker and Ion Storm have their own transponder signals that allow other Seekers to easily tell them apart!

and here’s the last one phew
Ion Storm: despite taking the JAAT’s entrance exams along with Acid Storm and Nova Storm, Ion Storm didn’t pass like his trinemates did. It doesn’t bother him much, not really. He’s happy for the opportunity his siblings have, and going to a regular school for his caste is alright. He just feels a bit like the moron of the group when so many other Safeguard Aerie got in and he didn’t. It’s almost intimidating when he visits the campus to see his trine and other siblings like Sunstorm. He just kind of wishes he could change a little bit, be better, or at least be less self conscious. Adapt, yknow?
Adaptus: blessed by Solomus with higher power from Unicron, Ion Storm turns into Adaptus. Suddenly he has a whole world of possibilities open to him, all these new forms and faces, more numerous even than every mech combined! He could become anything, anyone, could be the Grand Architect himself, and will take the form of an entire city if he has to, all so these poor lost disciples will hear the good news from a familiar friendly face. They are to be saved! Listen to him, for he is a harbinger of changing times, when the Guiding Hand will fix them all!
