Allow me, if you will, a moment to go absolutely rabid over your blog and everything that goes on here. I’ve always loved history but the USA hardly likes teaching anything that isn’t American History. I’ve forgotten how much I love WORLD history, specifically the rise and fall of empires.

if you really want to start on the ground floor for breaking into something, I'd recommend my personal favorite approach which is picking the figure that's most interesting to you, reading through plutarch's biography on them (free! online! in english!) and then putting their name through a jstor search and reading whatever sounds fun.

YES he's very attached to his hair, to the point that even after he's arrested for it, he doesn't change the style. Red is pretty widely known as the Riot Kings' color, and if you asked Wes to describe himself he'd pretty much just say "I'm a Riot King" followed by "I hate the Fleet".

He also joined at 15, and it was the first time since he was very young that he felt safe and like he was part of a community, so that also plays into his dedication.

I also plan on him having his head forcibly shaved after the ever-distant Time Skip, so that'll be fun :)

Hi! Tried to contact you. Dayum!😬😓 How'd you think kaneeka would eventually figure out/react to Reese's death caused by Tabitha (+MC)? Would she avenge his death for him or will there be a catfight between them?

I hope she loses her shit. Kaneeka is a very sensible person, fighting and murder are below her even at her worst (probably) but I hope she screams at Tabitha and tries to get her arrested or something. Keeping in mind that she's sorta under Sybil's control I'm not sure how much energy she'd really have to even yell at Tabby though.

How she treats MC will probably really depend where you stood with her previously- like you can literally be dating her at this point. At worst she treats you exactly like Tabby, at best I'm not sure? I can imagine MC playing a "I couldn't stop her" card and Kaneeka just redirecting any anger at you to Tabitha and completely blaming her. But she's also probably smarter than that? I'm curious if love interests can break up with MC if they do something completely unredeemable.

I'm not sure how she'd find out though if MC doesn't tell her. Doc Kelly walked all the way into the woods with us just to watch, defeated, as we set him on fire, and I really doubt she's willing to explain this to the police. I think Stella is closer to Reese than Kaneeka is, so I guess unless Stella knows what happens or gets worried she hasn't heard from him, idk how everyone will find out. I'm curious how people react to Doc Kelly's death too. In either case it's not like there's a body to be found. Maybe we just say they left or went missing?

If you don't find harrow as interesting to discuss as the other characters I totally understand, but I have been dying to find meta from people much smarter than me about the paragraph from Crux in NtN: "Lady,..you've gone away again, my lady; where have you run?...Who are you this time, if not my Lady Harrowhark?" (pg 459, hardcover) Have you seen any? I'm surprised I haven't seen it mentioned more, but the NtN has a ton to talk about so

oh! well, i certainly do find harrow, gideon, ianthe, and so on very interesting. i just happen to have a specific illness that makes me very sure i remember almost everything mercymorn and augustine & co have said, and much easier to discuss. that is a fascinating little moment! it strikes me as something that is hard to write meta about, per se, because it refers to something concrete that the author clearly knows but hasn't quite surfaced in the realm of the novel. it's harder to analyze, though potent for speculation! depending on how much you trust crux and his read of harrow's childhood, it certainly suggests a pattern of dissociation or hiding. (again, not enough there for me to call it evidence, but it feels in line with, say, discussions of harrow as a person with schizophrenia? i've seen some thoughtful pieces on that before, though i'm not able to link to any off the top of my head.) it's a brief window into harrow's childhood that harrow herself may not be able to recognize and gideon, in gtn, certainly would not have been privy to. crux's rhetoric, though superficially soothing, is also, perhaps, a way of seeing the different ways harrow came to understand her profound duty to the ninth. i think what i feel certain about re: that moment is it very clearly sets up context for crux's interactions with gideon/kiriona, which strike me as the primary dramatic purpose for crux's return. the comparison between moment of (as best as he can manage anyway/undeniably twisted) tenderness and reaffirmation and the way crux treats paul (crotchety/resentful to outsiders) and gideon (undeterred, spiteful hatred) remind us a) the initial dynamics gideon/harrow were steeped in (and possibly how far they have or haven't come?) and b) how lmao deeply vile and personal crux's hatred for gideon is. it's that "why doesn't it feel good" that is, within nona, still the showstopper for me. (crux being a mutation of a father figure is important there, for sure.) if there was something more you had on your mind, i'd love to hear it! but considering those paragraphs without any further context... to me, they're wonderful bits of colour, but not necessarily enough on their own to suggest much. possibly there will be more to them in alecto -- also possibly it refers to something that will never make the narrative!? however, if people have cool thoughts please link them in he replies.

Just discovered the song Your Stupid Face by Karen Mackay and it is soooooo incredibly Piarles coded oh my days (especially the song from Charles’ point of view) and now I’m obsessed. Basically my thinking atm is a meet ugly where non racer Charles is just pissed off at F1 racer Pierre for some reason (I’m not creative enough to think of the reason 😅 Pierre’s rude or overly cocky when Charles has had a bad day and it tips him over the edge?) but he’s in also in denial about the fact that he finds Pierre really quite attractive (‘I hate your stupid face’) but EVENTUALLY he gives in and excepts he ‘loves (his) stupid face’. Of course Pierre’s liked this cute guy that got mad at him and looked even cuter the whole time and just liked to antagonise and tease him. And I know you said you didn’t want angst but I promise it’s only a little! Maybe Pierre has to go back to racing and Charles feels he messed up and they got in an argument and didn’t talk before Pierre left and Charles thinks P will just forget about him (‘the world denied me one last kiss’). Obvs Pierre doesn’t because he’s just as smitten as Charles and he comes back and that whole conversation type verse of the song happens (dialogue just based on what is said :)) and yayy Charles realises that his feelings are reciprocated and not he’s not stupid for falling for a famous guy :) This got very long but the thought wormed it’s way into my brain and I had to share it, I hope you have a nice weekend!

ngl i was so confused for the last few mins of the episode. like what was going on?

oh same anon same. like i wasn’t particularly mad or disappointed about how anything went plot-wise, that was fine. I guess i was just expecting the climax to be… bigger?? they set up this grand conspiracy for the whole show just for it to end like that?? it’s not that i think the resolution is anticlimactic either, just delivered in a weird way. like if thua had his whole moment and it wasn’t all brushed away as some ‘student film stunt’ and then we actually got to see the characters deal with the fall out, bc we kinda did with akk having his emotional moments and ayan getting it all out in front of chadok, i more mean thua dealing with any consequences of what he did. he did all this stuff and then 10 seconds later they’re all… fine??? playing happy families making a film???? idk it just seems weird that kan and wat were so conformational with akk for what he did and then they just apparently let that go, then no one stays mad at thua, nor does anyone have anything to say about namo, when people finding out the truth was built up to be such a huge thing this whole time. and that’s what i wanna see, I wanna see the fallout and anger and them reconciling, even if it is rushed, i still wanna see it. characters can’t act like this and then be fine in the next scene, it just ruins continuity more than anything. plus i feel like the whole outing thing was just… not right?? im not mad that they did it, but for a universe that clearly has homophobia and in an environment where all this conformist shit is so clear, it’s not that i want to see that, it’s more i would’ve liked to have seen akk having to deal with that. being outed when you yourself are not 100% comfortable with your sexuality is a big and difficult thing and it would’ve been so interesting to see akk deal with that. but no, it’s like they said actually we’ve done enough character growth we’re ending here it was nice while it lasted. so yeah, the ep just had this weird vibe. no part of the resolution felt like it resolved anything and yes i fucking love seeing them all happy and being sweet but it still doesn’t change the fact that it doesn’t feel right. it really does feel like i missed half an ep and yet when i go back to find it, it just isn’t there.

With all of things Gabe is dealing with in Was Born to Lead fic (burglaries, mystery from the past 20 years, his parents hiding from him something from that time, Valerio's secret, mysterious symbols in the hideout, mysterious riddle in Tepet Muul and recent fight with Angel), are all of them gonna hit him emotionally (if that's not too-spoilery)? You know, Gabe had his emotional moments in the show despite his "tough armor".

To be fair, despite all the load on Gabe’s shoulders now, he won’t have emotional breakdown or anything in the nearest chapters. Although there will be one scene between Gabe and Ángel in the next chapter, which, I think can be considered emotional.

Also, without giving any context, because it’s a spoiler, there will be a very emotional scene between Gabe and Valerio in the future. I can’t say when it happens exactly (in terms of the chapter number; I know when it happens chronologically) but I have quite a clear picture of it in my head now so I’ll definitely include it when I get to it.

Anyway, Gabe had sort of the emotional rollercoaster in the 7th through the 10th chapters when he was conflicted about his new hobby and whether he should tell his father about it, so he already showed his soft and vulnerable side.
