Grudge Match headcanon:

Messmer owns many, many snakes, but his favorites are two albino reticulated pythons. Their names are Uriel and Tamiel. Both are pushing nine feet long, and both are certified therapy animals. They wear little vests with their certification patches. They help Messmer keep calm by draping around him like a weighted blanket, and they are quite well attuned to his moods. This is such a random vampire thought but like... do you think Armand and Louis ever did anything at Trinity Gate for Thanksgiving? It's such a food-based holiday that I can't imagine it's really their thing but Armand is so into holidays and traditions, I could see him trying to replicate parts of it. Or at least dragging Louis to a neighbor's house for post-Thanksgiving dinner drinks, where they have to awkwardly refuse pie and leftovers even as Armand asks about every single dish while the neighbors are trying to get it all tetris'd into the fridge (but despite his interest, refuses to take any off their hands).

I think maybe when it's just he and Louis around it's less of a thing (maybe one year they sit down and try to say what they're grateful for and then very quickly agree that it's awkward and Not Their Thing), but with Benji and Sybelle (and Daniel), maybe they mark the holiday by staying in and watching re-runs of the parade and just spending time as a family. I also know for a FACT that Louis and Daniel have side-bets on their fantasy football leagues and get sucked into the sports that are always on on thanksgiving.

But I love love LOVE the idea of Louis and Armand trying to be friendly neighbors!!! Armand is 100% in the kitchen trying to understand the origins of the infamous Marshmallow Sweet Potatoes while Louis stays in the parlour and flips through all the big coffee table books like a kid

I'm sure during their time together, Armand grilled Daniel on all things Thanksgiving as well, but I could totally see Trinity Gate Era Armand dragging Daniel out to one of those "sponsor a family" things, where you donate to buy another family dinner who couldn't afford it. Obviously you're not supposed to directly sponsor them, but that won't stop Armand from stalking the random family, watching them eat, and trying to feel some sort of second-hand connection to it all.

So weeks ago I suggested we have steaks for Thanksgiving instead of turkey or chicken. Had a whole plan of a menu, was actually excited. EXPLICITLY asked mom to NOT invite DogCousin. She said no why would she? Besides DC is probably going to another cousins house.

So it's 3:30pm mom puts the potatoes on. Cool, I'm in my room watching TV waiting for those to boil. Took my meds at 3 they're kicking in. Starting to feel okay enough to get up and cook. Starting to feel excited. Thinking ab pictures to take of Bean, what goofy ones ill take as private ones to share with friends (this year was gonna be catnip weed themed last year was baby's first Vegas trip)

Mom comes in my room. This fake smile. She sits down and says she loves me. Okay what's wrong??

"DogCousin is coming over."

I fucking lost it. I start crying as a panic attack emerges. Any excitement, any appetite, any joy, leaves my body. I don't want dinner period. I tell her I'm not coming out, I'm not helping cook, just leave my steak in the fridge I'll eat tomorrow alone.

She starts crying. She did this to help me, she said. To make Thanksgiving less lonely. To break up the anxiety by having someone here.

When have I ever been excited when DC invites herself over? When have I ever expressed anything but pure DREAD?

I specifically asked her not to do this. She forgot.

Worst part is she never ASKS ME when DC invites herself over. It's always "sorry. I'm sorry. DC is coming over. Sorry"

Never once giving me the chance to say no. Never once asking me first.

Midway through the breakdown I ask why she was so determined to ruin my Thanksgiving? Why can't she see that DC has no sense of awareness of herself/others? Why doesn't she understand?

Finally she agrees to turn DC away, but gives her a steak and a raw baking potato. A normal person would deny this. Would say no you don't have to do this.

Nope.

Finally she leaves. Continue the breakdown. Continue the argument. We're here now.

Idk if we're even gonna bother with dinner today. My appetite is ruined. Any excitement, any special holiday meal feelings are gone. It's just a normal steak dinner now. I don't care.

soulmate-esque au where steve is born with a psychic power where the first time he touches someone who will be important to him, he gets flashes of future moments between the two of them.

the first time he touches nancy he sees flashes of the two of them happy together, then an argument. the flashes clearly jump ahead a few years, as if they maybe stopped talking for a while, but they still look happy in that future. he thinks that maybe they get in a big fight, but clearly they’re still in each others lives for a long, long time.

when he ruffles dustin’s hair looking for dart, he gets flashes of laughter and jokes and a long life of brotherhood. he sees secret handshakes and little plastic dice and being invited to thanksgiving.

they’re not always positive. the first time he brushes past billy in the locker room, he’s filled with flashes of anger and dread and pain, and none of what he sees makes sense in the moment.

on his first day at scoops, he shakes robin’s hands and gets his biggest vision yet. there’s so much love and happiness and joy there, including a montage in which they seem to work a frankly absurd variety of jobs. but he gets stuck on an image of himself in a tux, robin in a wedding dress, and thinks this must be my future wife.

it isn’t until much later, on a dirty bathroom floor, that he realizes he was standing behind robin in that vision of her in a wedding dress, and, oh, he’s her best man.

almost a year later, when eddie pushes him against a wall with a broken bottle to his neck, steve is almost convinced he’s passed out because of the sheer number of visions running through his head. some of the flashes are innocent happy moments—sharing a joint, laughing at a movie, making dinner—but there’s also flashes of pleasure and adoration and devotion on a level that steve’s never felt before.

he sees flashes of waking up next to eddie in bed, walking a dog around a lake hand in hand, watching eddie perform on stage, a soft kiss to a bare shoulder.

and suddenly steve yearns, thinks he’s never fully known the meaning of that word until now. he tries to play it cool, doesn’t want to freak eddie out, but he’s seen so many visions of them holding hands that his fingers itch with the need to interlace with eddie’s.

when eddie is attacked by demobats, everyone tries to get steve and dustin to leave eddie’s body behind, because clearly eddie is dead. and steve can’t explain to them why he knows that can’t be true, he just stubbornly insists and drags eddie to a hospital as he promises again and again to dustin that eddie is going to make it.

everyone but steve is shocked when the doctors find the barest hint of a pulse.

it’s touch and go at first, but they put eddie in a medically induced coma and he starts to improve. steve is there the whole time. he tells the unconscious eddie about all of the things they still have to do together, about how he knows eddie will live a long, happy life because he’s seen eddie with gray in his hair, laugh lines etched into his face, as they welcome their first grandchild to the world.

and eddie makes it, and when he was up eddie tells steve he heard everything. steve steels himself for denial or disbelief, but eddie tells him that it’s the first thing he’s heard in the past month that actually makes sense.

they share their first kiss right there in the hospital room, and even though steve has seen this moment before, it still takes his breath away.

as he grows older, steve notices more and more of the moments he’s seen in visions as they happen. he happily discovers that there’s so much the visions don’t show, and there’s still so much to see.

because yes, just like he saw all those years ago, he stands behind robin at her wedding, and it’s as moving and special as it always looked. but he also gives max away at her and lucas’s wedding, and he helps dustin propose to suzie, and he helps erica pick out her wedding dress. and, of course, robin stands behind steve at his own wedding.

steve lives a long happy life, with so many memories—seen and unseen—to look forward to.
