I'm back with another felted slugcat! Like I said, I think I'm going to try felting all the characters, and since I began with Survivor, it felt fitting I'd do their sibling next (especially since it'd be good practice for making colored slugcats)!

Other than the yellow hue and the happier-looking expression I gave it, it's pretty much the same as before:

I was hoping it'd turn out both cute and accurate to the official art, but I did NOT expect the sheer volume of love everyone sent its way (you guys made it my most-liked and most-reblogged post by FAR in just a few days)!

A quick question about the eldrich cutie, how do they/it/he/she eat? Does the scug part do that? If so is it purely carnivorous or are they/it/he/she omnivorous?

the slugcat part can eat! but they prefer not to. why? because they would rather use their actual mouth! (CW: more body horror)

their body contorts as their chest area splits open to reveal a mouth. they're pretty much made for devouring big quantities of food (and that includes an entire corpse too)! size does vary and they cannot swallow up a whole vulture

anatomy wise i have no idea how this would even make any sense but again not even how they were created made any sense at all.

anyway they usually ignore eating small prey since it doesn't really satisfy their endless hunger at all. and they're purely carnivorous! and they would just avoid eating any fruit... they really just disliked them. a very picky eater indeed lmao

The question can be interpreted in three ways.

Technical:

just... Pain...I have an old 7th gen Intel i7, 16 gigs of ram, and RTX 3060. The thing is. When It comes to meshes, or hard surfaces (the polygons) blender is actually very good at handling a lot of them. But guess what blender does NOT like. Clouds, textures and displacments. I did the details in the cube first, and then sufferd through the pain and lag of clouds and textures.

Render times don't increase with polygons. This many poligons render a 1080p image in 40 seconds. You just have to be smart about hiding stuff you don't need when editing.

I can send you the model. It's really not a huge problem.

Creating detail kind of technical:

well it is indeed hand made. It doesn't take long if you blender very aggressively with energetic music. The first wall took me, ~30-40 hours. The second is barely visible so just a copy of that with modifications. I premade greebles and assets that I have later scatterd. You can see I reused a lot of stuff. In the project I am currently working on it will be different. But in this one, I tried to follow the doctrine of hiding the flatness of the cube. So it doesn't look like a cube with stuff on it, with fairly decent results. Made some holes some structures etc.. The plugins that I used mostly are discombulator, blenders inbuilt panel gen. And we'll uh. That's Pretty much it. Made a geonodes modifier, for the pipes. So it's easier, so that's a thing.

And the rest is just me trying to be creative and stuff.

The "how do I come up where goes what"

I domnt funkin know.

I'm an engineer. And that means I solve pracital problems. Such as, will this pipe going from here to here make sense? Or does it make sense to make this thing here if there is another nearby? I can barely be called an artist, or creative for that matter. I can't draw like at all,I just get anxiety when I try, I can't make anything that is alive in blender. Like genuenly anything.(including scugs :<). I am pretty darn new to blender with barely even 1 k hours. I looked at references of Cappins (the creator of the original 3d model found in OE.) Model, I got some inspiration from there.

You can defenetly see the similarities. I took inspiration from a lot of the stuff on Cappins model. Unfortunately I for some reason never figured out that iterator cube is not a cube. It's a uh... Pancake shaped cube. What I also like a lot about Cappins model, is that it's very very well balanced. Perhaps some technical details are questionable but at that scale that can be ignored. I later talked with him. And he explained me the meaning of primary secondary and tertiary detail. Wich is actually very useful. Go google it if you draw or model. As for my model. I'm happy that people like it but I'm not happy how not canon it is compared to other iterators. Perhaps, it's an older model of an iterator. It took me nearly a third of the time cappin took to make his, that explains the quality difference. And we'll he had to start from scratch.

THE LOREEE

Some iterator from another local group who i dont have a name for yet is some kind of experimenter who fuses DNA from other creatures to make new ones. The four this AU is focusing on are slugcats who were experimented on. Their names are Ven, Lantern, Daydream, and Dive (all short for Vengeful, Lanterncat, Daydreamer, and Divirgionist). Eventually the can is running out of space, so the iterator moves some subjects into the same enclosures to make room. Ven, Lantern, Daydream, and Dive are moved to the same cage. Blah blah blah something really bad happens and those four were the only ones able to escape, and they end up exploring the dust desert of the Infinite Galaxies region.

About Ven

Ven is a slugcat that has the DNA of Spearmaster, and Saint. Dispite having Saints DNA he is actually extremely aggressive and will likely attack anything in his path. He sees everything as a threat. Exept the other three scugs he meets.

The gradient on his tail is actually gunpowder (or whatever is used to make bombs rw) and is used to make bombs, and explosive spears. The gunpowder is naturally growing on his tail (idk how that works either dont ask) so it is really easy to make strong weapons.

Speaking of weapons, he is VERY skillful with spears. Like, its scary how well he uses them.

Also he loves painting.

He doesnt smile often, but when he does he has such a wide grin. He looks like a maniac when he smiles.

His eyes, and lighter parts of his fur glow faintly in the dark.

The big spike on his tail is like a scorpion tail barb. He stabs his enemies and it stuns them temporarily giving him a quicker battle. Not like he needs it anyway.

He has a ripped ear because he got in a fight with a red lizard. "It was a tough battle, but i always win in the end." Is what he said to the others. Hes right. He has indeed never lost a fight.

Dive admires Ven a lot. They see him as an older brother.

Do you want to know which scug The Fly Whisperer lost to? Miroscat. And who owned Miroscat? That’s right. @sillycryptid. This isn’t just some random matchup. This is a battle for vengeance. However, vengeance tends to not work against rotscugs, as demonstrated by Sierra Mist. Wait, huh? You haven’t noticed? Yes, The Outcast is a member of the rotscug group (previous members including Glue [@pi-roach] and The Plagued [@mothwingedmyths]). This makes things very interesting indeed.

Will The Fly Whisperer finally get revenge? Or will The Outcast manage to finish what the previous rotscugs started, and finally allow the rot to consume the tournament, along with any hope for love to win out at last?

a slug cat transformation story

Putting on a vulture mask, hoping to scare lizards away, but scug slime starts pouring out of it and all over you. It's flowing fast enough to stop you from getting enough of a grip to pull it off, just pushing away your new paws instead~ It's hard to tell, but you think the stuff might be shrinking you, your arms and legs feel way shorter than before. There's also a new weight at your backside as the flow of slime slows down. You rip the mask from your face, only to be greeted by a snout? In shock you bring your hands to touch this new addition, only to be greeted by paws?! Soft, slightly slimy, white skin covers your new paws. Which follow from arms to chest to TAIL!?!? And indeed, you have a big fat tail attached to your backside. You can even feel it and swing it about a lil bit. You feel around yourself, inspecting your new anatomy. Short snout, rounded ears, voice only capable of a soft "Wawa." And if course the tail that oh so comforting to hug~ And you're gonna need the comfort with the rain swiftly approaching…

this was my first year of joining artfight! It's been a whole lot of fun, and I made 39 attacks. Oh boy. My goal was at least one attack per day, and wow I have never been so productive.
