The Aromantic spectrum (a short version)

(I’ll do a longer one later) (maybe) Obviously, no 2 people are the same, so it makes sense that translates to sexual and gender identity. You may not fit under any of these terms you may fit under a few or maybe you find the one that suits you best! Remember you are valid! <3 I’m always welcome to feedback! If you find that this description isn’t correct, for you or for the community as a whole, let me know! I’ll do another post further explaining it with your help!

This is a short list with explanations of different parts of the Aromantic spectrum.

Aegoromantic

Aegoromantic, (previously known as Autochorisromantic) describes those who enjoy the concept of romance but do not have a desire to participate in romantic activities.

Aroflux

People who identify as aroflux may experience their romantic orientation as fluctuating between experiencing and not experiencing romantic attraction.

I.e Some times Yes Romance, sometimes No romance.

Autoromantic

Autoromantic people may elicit romantic attraction from themselves, by themselves. (I’ve been leaning towards this slightly)

Cupioromantic

Cupioromantic describes those who do not experience attraction but do desire a romantic relationship. (Another one I lean towards)

Demiromantic

Demiromantic describes people who do not experience romantic attraction until they have formed a deep emotional connection with someone. (According to most definitions)

Desinoromantic

Desinoromantic people do not experience "full-on" romantic attraction, but do experience "liking" someone instead of loving them romantically. (This can be confusing, I’ll do more on this most likely)

Grayromantic

Grayromantic includes (but is not limited to) people who feel very low amounts of romantic attraction, rarely feel romantic attraction, only feel romantic attraction under specific circumstances, or are not sure if they experience romantic attraction. It is usually be considered a romantic equivalent to gray-asexuality.

This is just a short list, there are many more terms and sexualitys to add. If you want one in particular, let me know!

Asexual

You may have little to no interest in sex or intimacy

You may find others attractive but not be attracted to them

You might enjoy platonic to slightly less platonic (kissing or more) but not want to go further

You may not being intrested in the whole “sexy” thing

Aromantic

You may not find the idea of romantic relationships appealing to you

You may have trouble relating to or understanding media and more about love.

You might have a physical attraction to people but you might not develop a crush on them

You may also present as not understanding why people behave they way they do when "in love" (This was a big on for me)

You might not find any or most romantic plots in books/movies/media interesting or needed (another big one for me)

OKAY FIRST OF ALL BLESS YOU FOR ASKING ABOUT MY FAVORITE IDIOT. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH. I had so much fun doing this. I really hope you like it even though it's not really the longest thing I've done ever. It was fun to try and imagine, I'm not kidding. Thank you so so so much for asking this.

Warnings ; Nothing, really. It's fluffyish! There is some randomness thrown in here and there bc I ramble like a fool, but nothing I feel you need to be warned about.

✯ Gonna be totally honest with you here… This probably starts out with a lot of heckling, banter and teasing. But Tommy’s one of those guys, as he’s saying shit, there will be this flirty little smirk on his face. He’ll also step closer. He’s not so obvious with it that you /know/ he’s flirting or even interested, you’ll actually start off firmly believing he either doesn’t like you or he lives to annoy/hurt you for some unknown reason. Look, if he has to internalize his feelings for his best friends -i said what I said babes, do you really think he’s going to be all open and lovey-dovey with someone who simply dresses and acts just a little different just like that? No. No, he won’t. Plus, he has to get his head around whatever it is he’s feeling. If it’s just a physical interest, if the interest isn’t constantly there in his mind, he won’t act on it. Better to not rock the boat then to rock it. -unrelated, but I honestly feel in my heart that Tommy is the way he is because he was the one who was bullied to oblivion as a kid. So now he’s bigger and meaner so he bullies people as like… Payback or something, I suppose.

✯ Now if that attraction isn’t just physical, Tommy’s not the kind of guy who will just sit on his laurels and let you slip through his fingers. But he’s gotta feel something and to date alt/goth, especially in the 80’s, he’s gotta feel it strongly. Because back in the day, you didn’t really see a whole lot of jocks / grunge -alt - goth couples. But I digress. Once he realizes this is more than just the need of a warm body, - another totally unrelated thing here to note, Tommy is only hypersexual when he’s dating his guy/girl of choice. Any other time, guy can make use of his hand like nobody’s business bc he has a very vivid imagination. ANYWAY, WHERE THE FUCK WAS I? OH OH YEAH.. This is when Tommy tries to kind of… Immerse himself in the things that interest you, whether it be music, true crime, spooky stuff, you name it. He’ll even lean more heavily towards plain black t-shirts. If they hug those biceps (to show you what he brings to the table bc.. Sheer brawn, minimal brains god bless my idiot baby), all the better. Guy will try to listen to the music you like but nine out of ten, outside of The Cure, Siouxsie and maaybe one or two others, he just can’t. He’s more of a classic rock / hard rock / stoner rock kind of guy I think. But he tries, oh my god.

✯ The above being said, sometimes he tries a little… too hard.

✯ He’ll do anything to get you to notice him, he’s an attention whore like that. When he finally accomplishes it, he’s all giddy and grinning. A real grin. Not that bs one, the smug one you wanna knock off his damn cute freckly face. If you’re an alt/goth who likes less traditional first dates, you happen to be in luck because Tommy is lowkey high key very very good at thinking outside the box and somehow, he’ll manage to nail down something totally unique, maybe a little weird but definitely thoughtful. This is when you know he’s serious, btw. Because if he’s looking for a casual fuck or three, he won’t often bother. And he’s not really a casual fucker type, Imo.. So, yes. You have just gotten yourself a brawny, mouthy, fireball jock boyfriend.

✯ Will surprise you with random stuff. Maybe he sees you eyeing a rock or something. Maybe it’s a cameo at some pawn shop in town. Maybe it’s just deeeep red roses. It winds up in your possession.

✯ Tommy in a known goth hangout, this is more funny than it should be. I picture him trying to make the Moonwalk happen to some slower paced Cure song. And everyone will be staring at him like what the fucking hell? But he doesn’t mind doing things that make you happy. And he’s not really bothered by the staring or anything. He’s uh… developed himself a thick skin.

✯ This man will literally fistfight God if somehow, God were to upset you. This isn’t just applied to alt/goth, but to anyone he lets close enough to him to care about deeply. Tommy is like… Real protective. Real protective.

✯ Cannot keep his hands off you. Loves to watch you getting all the makeup on when you’re going out somewhere. Genuinely enjoys showing you off when you’re with him and does not give one flat footed fuckola if everybody else is looking at you two like you’re the oddest couple they’ve ever seen.

Follow up to cringe culture essay: animated film edition

My post about cringe culture, fandoms, and kids media, which you can read here, briefly mentioned how outsiders mock animation fans for using animated kids shows to say that animation is for everyone. I want to follow up on that point.

I had the displeasure of seeing an awful post on my Twitter timeline that went “the ‘animation IS cinema’ people always pick the dweebiest movies to make their argument. Just post Beavis and Butt-Head Do America guys, nobody would disagree” Wow okay mr edgelord. You sound like a stereotypical Disney Channel bully.

The ‘animation is cinema’ image comes from The Mitchells vs the Machines, which is a family-friendly movie that many hold up as a good example of an animated movie, and how animation is for everyone. This gets mocked by outsiders (usually snooty Letterboxd types) who think that this movie uses the “Grubhub art style” or some BS like that. As you can see, people who act like that think animation is only for children, and plug their ears and go LALALA when you bring up good animated kids’ films with mass appeal. Whether you like it or not, animation always has and always will be cinema.

This brings us to another problem: a lack of mainstream adult animated films. Thanks to the stigma that animation is only for children, we never get mass-marketed animated movies for adults these days, and any movies that ARE for adults are only shown at art house theaters. Sausage Party was a mass-marketed adult movie, but it alienated its audience with its crass humor and kiddie appearance (Silly Rabbit, CGI animation is for kids! /s)

I feel like if adult animated films were marketed more, they would reach a wider audience. As much as I love Mitchells and most of Pixar’s output, animation fans should definitely check out movies specifically aimed at adults. Expand your palate a bit. It’s okay to watch kids stuff, and it’s okay if you only like kids stuff, but adult animation needs to be appreciated more, since it suffers a stigma that it’s all low-brow, poorly animated, offensive comedy.

ADULT ANIMATED FILMS TO CHECK OUT:

Beavis and Butthead Do America (as well as Beavis and Butthead Do the Universe) - These are more teen movies then adult movies, and they are low brow, but they do it (badumtsh) in the best possible way

On Cringe Culture, Kids' Shows, and Elitism

i'M nOt rEaDiNg aLl tHaT" Ok, scroll down for the TL:DR. (Also on SpaceHey and Blogspot)

The now ex-CEO of Disney, Bob Chapek, has stated the animation is only for children. Never mind that this is the same company that owns The Simpsons, and was founded by a guy who said, and I quote "You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway."

Naturally, this has caused universal backlash within the animation community, with many people defending animation as a medium for everyone, not just kids. However, the animation community was also mocked by outsiders for using kids' shows, such as Gravity Falls, to prove that animation is for everyone. In fact, the animation community (more specifically the western animation community) has always been cruelly harassed by outsiders for watching cartoons, especially ones aimed at children.

There is nothing wrong with watching children's shows AT ALL. Watching kids' shows doesn't make you immature, a pedophile, or whatever bullshit that outsiders want to spew. Remember the Walt Disney quote above; many kids' shows are designed to be appealing to multiple audiences, including adults. Kids' shows with adult appeal (or ones that don't annoy the living daylights out of parents, or are legitimately good for kids) are more likely to be praised and recommended by said parents than, say, Cocomelon.

However, because of the stigma attached to kids' shows, many animation fans feel the need to hate on/ignore slice-of-life or comedy cartoons, while only praising plot-driven or "dark" ones like Gravity Falls, The Owl House, and Avatar, and say that they are "not for kids." Again, there is NOTHING wrong with liking kids' shows (these shows do feel more YA-ish though, but that's another subject for another blog). All three of these shows are very high quality, and you don't need to justify your enjoyment of them to outsiders. The constant prioritization of dramatic cartoons over lighthearted ones in the cartoon fandom creates a sense of snobby elitism, and leads to...

...fans of lighthearted shows like Big City Greens and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic being bullied for liking said shows because they are "childish." Which, in turn, leads to fans of lighthearted kids' shows trying to make their shows seem dark in order to make the elitists like them. Back in the day, many bronies made dark fan works based on MLP such as "Cupcakes," "Smile HD," and "Rainbow Factory" and put them out in public with no age restriction, resulting in a bunch of traumatized children. The bronies also acted like they were the target audience and not children.

Apart from the bronies' fan works, MLP also suffered from exaggerated darkness on TV Tropes subpages. Speaking of TV Tropes, there was a very infamous incident regarding the kids' show "Ready Jet Go!" Aside from the stigma surrounding general kids' programs, you also have the stigma attached to preschool shows that they are dumb and for babies (never mind that babies/infants are too young to watch TV, and if they watch it before they turn 2, it would really hurt their brain. Look up the Baby Einstein controversy for more info), especially with GoAnimate users making it hip to hate on Dora and Barney. Not every preschool/elementary show is the same as Cocomelon. There are many high-quality programs for the little ones such as Arthur, Cyberchase, Sesame Street, Bluey, Mister Rogers, VeggieTales, Oswald, Blue's Clues, LazyTown, Bear in the Big Blue House, and WordGirl. Can you really blame fans for liking them when they’re just so good?

With all this in mind, someone once made a Nightmare Fuel page for Ready Jet Go on TV Tropes in order to make it more popular, because the user felt alone in liking the show and it was a big comfort for them. They also cited the snobbery of the cartoon community as a reason for their making the page on the Nightmare Fuel cleanup thread. The page was eventually deleted because it was mocked cruelly by 4chan. It didn't make the show more popular, it gave it a bad reputation.

The user shouldn't have to had made that stupid page with examples exaggerating the show's supposed scariness. If it weren't for the cartoon community being a bunch of elitists, as well as the kids/preschool show stigma, this wouldn't have happened. The sad part is, even though the page is long gone, the page STILL gets brought up by RJG haters to mock the show, its' fans, and TV Tropes for "pissing their pants over Ready Jet Go" which is beating a dead horse at this point. Seriously, make like Elsa and LET IT GO. Please stop bringing it up, and if you’re reading this blog, please don’t look it up. Please have sympathy for Ready Jet Go fans. We’re actually a very nice fandom.

The 4chan bullying also ties into cringe culture. On sites such as DeviantArt, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, and 4chan, many people are considered "cringe" and cyberbullied for "crimes" like making a colorful character or watching cartoons. The cyberbullies in question are just a bunch of pathetic lowlives who bully people for being happy, because they think that bullying happy people will make them feel better about their disgusting selves.

As noted here, cringe culture affects autistic people the most. Autistic people tend to get really passionate about their favorite things, or "special interests," and like to talk about them all the time and make their own characters. But according to some unwritten rule of society, your OCs have to be as deep as Shakespeare, and you're not allowed to like 'childish' things even a little bit. (I think it's worth mentioning that the Nightmare Fuel person was autistic themselves). Many proponents of cringe culture participate in concern trolling, acting like they don't want so-called "cringe" people to be bullied and want them to be good artists/writers. Cringe culture doesn't make people become better creators, it makes them become boring creators and repressing their true passions.

Every autistic person is different, which is why it's called the autism spectrum. However, it is true that a lot of autistic people enjoy children's media, likely because of how calming and simple they tend to be. For example, Thomas the Tank Engine is very popular with autistics because the engines' emotions are easy to tell, and the show has a chill atmosphere (by the way, the Thomas fandom is a frequent victim of cringe culture). Plus, it legitimately has Tolkien-level lore dating back to the 1940s. I'm not even kidding, look up "The Island of Sodor: Its People, History and Railways." It always pisses me off when outsiders act surprised that "tHOmAs tHe tRaIn hAs A fAnDoM?!?1!" It's based on a book series that's existed since 1945, of fucking course it has a fandom, dumbass.

TL;DR - 'Animation is for everyone' and 'it's okay to like kids' cartoons/lighthearted cartoons' are statements that can and should co-exist. Also, autistic people can like whatever they want and those who harass them are the scum of the earth.

literally so mad at myself right now. i’ve been rewatching ipkknd and was hoping to post all my old fanfics back in india forums except i just took out my old flash drive to see the documents and finding out that two of the already completed chapter fanfics i had weren’t completely saved at all. what sucks is that i used t be s*icidal and at one point i had every single thing posted on IF deleted including the already finished fanfics so my existence could be wiped away so as of now I can’t find the file where my entire work is preserved and it’s so frustrating to deal with the consequences that manic depressive 16 year old me was making.

i think i might have saved few things to sky drive/one drive but i stopped using hotmail like five years ago and obvs the drive deleted itself as it wasn’t being used so now there are like close to fifteen chapters of three different fanfics that are just gone ugerrgghhhhhh

the worst is the one of the fanfics was first complemented and posted and used to be my most popular work but now there’s no trace of it

the promos for Pakistani shows are always so good and then they do something which ends up disappointing. I was looking forward to watching laapata and then ayeza khan’s character in light of femicides was disgusting. parizaad literally has the main lead in a black face in 2021. hum Kaha ke sachay the resorts to two girls over one man troupe although so far the latter seems more promising. now ahsen khan’s new show looks worth a shot but we’ll have to be apprehensive about how to move with it. so far pardees is the only watchable thing on air but im so tired of watching women go through insane miseries and coming out stoic for them to be considered worthy of rewards of a happy life.

Steve was so very fucked. He’d been sat at his desk since he got home from school and could not think of a single fucking thing to write. He’d had his notebook open, his typewriter loaded with paper, pen uncapped and waiting to be used, and the most work he’d done was chew on its blue cap. He just couldn’t think.

Writing was not his thing. Reading was not his thing. School was not his thing. He had lines of trophies on his nearly empty shelf-swim meet, track and field, basketball, and baseball for one summer in fifth grade. He could understand how to play a sport. That was competitive, improvisational, and had a core outcome-you won, lost, or tied. The same three outcomes with a million ways to do it, a million variables to get in the way. Math and science were the same, he could swing Cs and Bs in those classes, but English was the opposite. There were too many opinions. Too many options. When he managed to read one of the assigned books for class and not merely the Cliff’s Notes, he found he had nothing to say about it. Everything the author said felt true, even when his teachers were telling him to look for specific things in the narrative. Sure, if someone told him that the conch shell in Lord of the Flies meant something, but if you asked him what he wouldn’t know. And he would believe you if you said that the conch shell didn’t mean anything. His essays were all crap.

He thought about calling Nancy. Nancy would know exactly how to help him, she always did. But Nancy was with Jonathan now and he wasn’t confident that they were still friends at all. If they were ever friends. He didn’t think that they were. They weren’t really friends before they dated. Still, his hand hovered over the egg shell white rotary phone on his desk, a gift from his eleventh birthday. He lifted the phone off its hook, dialling the number off by heart. It took three rings for someone to pick up.

“Eleven?” Mike Wheeler’s frantic voice came through the other end. Steve couldn’t help but roll his eyes, the boy was far too attached to that girl, it was honestly concerning.

“Nah dude it’s Steve, your sister around?” he asked, leaning back in his chair.

“She’s out with Jonathan.” Mike’s voice dropped into one of boredom. “You know, her boyfriend?” he was such a little shit sometimes.

“Yeah, I know dipshit, you wanna tell her I called when she gets back?” Steve huffed back.

“If I remember.” With that, the call went dead. Steve groaned, rolling his eyes as he slammed the receiver back onto the hook. What a fucking waste of time. He’d never hear back now, that kid didn’t like him from the start and would do whatever he could to keep them from being friends.

What was to be done now? He didn’t have anything to say about his spring break! Mr. Lawrence was a bastard for even asking him to write about it. Nothing happened! His parents went to Miami Beach to rekindle their marriage for the hundredth time and left Steve at home alone. He tried to throw a party but almost got busted by the cops with a fake ID at the Pick n’ Save and Tommy’s brother wouldn’t give them any weed to supplement what would’ve been a pretty dry party. He cancelled the party after that and sat at home alone. Nothing much to tell about and definitely wouldn’t fill a page, even if he used the longest words he knew.

Steve stood from his desk, looking through his shelf till he found the heavy yellow pages he’d put on the bottom of his shelf to weigh the sucker down so it wouldn’t fall over as fast. He flipped it open, searching through the numbers till he found what he was looking for, lifting the receiver off its hook again.

Across the street, you were sprawled out on your rose printed bedspread, your head in your hands with Samantha sat on your desk chair, laughing at your pain. “You know it’s not that bad, right? You could’ve gotten stuck with someone way worse.” She said, mindlessly digging through the black jewellery box sat dusty in the corner of your desk. Your mother had sent it from Spain and had filled it with different things she found across Europe. You didn’t care much for the stuff yourself but you kept it on your desk to show that you used it, not that she was ever home to seemed to notice.

Your bedroom was clean and stark white. It used to be pink, to match the rest of your white iron rod and pink padded furniture. You didn’t like the pink that much, and you didn’t adore the white, but you could hide it behind the art you tacked to the wall. Every portrait, still life, and landscape painting you’d been proud of hung proudly in your home gallery. You’d done recreations of your favourite album covers, and splatter art with balloons, and a few charcoal drawings of your grandparents and your father. You’d painted clouds and stars on your ceiling when you were in middle school, and while they had a lot of room for improvement, you left them above your head as a comfort to you. Your father had helped you scrape the popcorn ceiling down flat and helped paint the ceiling sky blue. It was your last project together.

“Oh yeah totally…” you said through your hands, refusing to look at her, focusing instead on the yellow sun spots floating under your eyelids.

“I mean, you could’ve gotten stuck with Tracy Lords again, she’s in that class.” Samantha replied easily, pulling out a green sea glass bangle from the top drawer, running her fingers over the red velvet interior of the box. Tracy Lords was a menace to productivity, at least she was according to Samantha. They had issues, which meant that you did too by association, but she’d done nothing to you except glare and pop her gum at you.

“At least she does her work!” you sat up, letting your feet dangle over your bed. “I don’t think he’s ever done his work on time, he’s always late with stuff!”

“That’s not your problem; as long as you do your work then Lawrence won’t care.” She flashed the bangle in front of your face “You should wear this more it’s nice.”

You shrugged “You can have it if you want.” You didn’t really care about what your mother sent you, it didn’t change the fact that she didn’t care enough about you to be home for more than a month out of the year. Besides, where on earth were you supposed to wear any of it? Your mother loved to spend your father’s riches on random, useless crap and you hated the idea of showing off the money your father died for. It wasn’t anything to brag about.

“Nah, not my style, it won’t match any of my stuff.” She put the bracelet back, closing the box with a metallic thump. “But anyway, you’ll be fine. Steve’s completely harmless.” You weren’t exactly sure if you believed her.

The phone on your desk blared loudly. You begrudgingly jumped off the bed, pulling it off the hook. Your grandmother was still at the hair salon and if you didn’t answer, one of her little friends from the old folk’s home might think that she died again.

“Hello?” you asked, motioning for Samantha to move over a bit, closing your white curtains closed again, your eyes scanning the streets with a bored expression.

“Hey is this Y/N?” Steve asked cautiously. He couldn’t quite remember your voice but he had double checked your last name in the year book and the phone book.

“Yeah, who is this?” dread filled your stomach the second he spoke, you were hoping against hope that it wasn’t Steve. You could see him pacing his window from across the street.

“Hey it’s Steve from English?” Fucking hell. You wanted to slam the damn receiver onto its hook. But if you did that, Samantha would think that you were crazy and you didn’t want to seem like such a baby.

“Oh hey what’s up?” you asked cautiously. Samantha was pulling at your sleeve, mouthing ‘Who is it?’ at you. You pulled your arm away, pushing her chair away from you with your foot.

“Oh nothing much, I was just wondering how your paper’s going?” Steve didn’t really know why he called you, he wasn’t certain that you’d even help him if he asked. He hardly knew you, he couldn’t name two things about you. But you seemed smart, you could be of some help if he had the balls to ask for it.

“Oh um…it’s fine. How’s yours going?” your hand came to the back of your neck, rubbing it awkwardly. You wanted to run away, to utterly disappear into another dimension. You didn’t like strangers, especially the whole small talk part. You didn’t feel like you had anything interesting to say about yourself and you hated silence. Your mind just didn’t come up with questions to ask.

Steve’s face burned. He couldn’t admit that he was stupid now; he was hoping that he wasn’t the only idiot in the class. “Oh um it’s good! I’m almost done.” He said, mentally cursing himself for saying that he was anywhere near finished.

“Oh cool. Do-do you want to switch them off tomorrow?” Now you had no idea what this phone call was even about. In the back of your mind, you assumed that he just had a question about the essay, but now you had nothing to grab onto.

“Yeah sure, that works for me.” He said, looking to his empty paper. He was so totally screwed now. He couldn’t admit that he was an idiot to you, not when you already had everything so clearly understood. You spoke so confidently, it made him feel small and pointless.

“Okay…I’ll see you in class then.” You said. Steve bid an awkward goodbye and you both hung up unsure what the hell had just happened.

Samantha was on her feet, jumping on your mattress “Did Steve Harrington just call you?!?” she cried, following it was it a giddy scream. You hushed her, rolling your eyes.

“It’s nothing to freak out about, you weirdo!” you countered, turning to face her fully with a sullen expression. Your heart was still pounding hard in your chest, adrenalin pumping through your veins.

Samantha landed on her knees, looking up at you incredulously “What? He’s cool! That’s cool! Boys never call you!”

“Way to rub that one in.” you scoffed, crossing your arms over your chest. Talking to people wasn’t your strong suit, and while for the most part you were okay with not having many friends, you lack of experience with relationships made you very insecure. “You crushed one of your spikes on my ceiling.”

Samantha reached up and touched each individual black spike with the tips of her finger, finding the dented one at the top of her head. “It’s true! God, I’ve got more guys calling me and I’m a lesbian.” She lowered her voice at the mention of her sexuality. You both knew that your grandparents wouldn’t be kind to her if they knew, their homophobia a mark of their small mindedness.

“Yeah, well, the guys at this school are all idiots.” You looked back to your paper, pulling your red pen out from behind your ear and crossing out a word on your essay.

“You didn’t think Jonathan Byers was an idiot.” Samantha replied. You cheeks flashed cherry red. It wasn’t fair of her to even mention him. He was a dickhead and Samantha knew it.

“Yeah, well now I know that he’s just as big of an idiot as everyone else is.” You muttered, pulling your desk chair over and taking a seat once again. You didn’t have the time for stupid boys, anyways. You had work to do.

name. james chandler linwood // when chandler was five, he found out about middle names at school. after asking his dad what his was, he immediately decided that chandler was a way cooler name than james, and has gone by his middle name ever since. one of his pet peeves is people referring to him as james. hometown. wayzata, mn // suburb of minneapolis major. business // chandler has no clue what he wants to do with his life. he’s been doing some photography gigs on the side since his freshman year of college, so he decided it wouldn’t hurt to get a degree in business so he could run his own shit better. he knows he doesn’t want to do photography as a career long-term, though. birthday. february 11th, 1999 // twenty two years old. gender. cis man orientation. biromantic asexual // chan is completely out as ‘bi’. most people assume that means he’s bisexual and he doesn’t correct that idea. he’s a lot quieter about being asexual. a lot of people don’t understand what it is, and ask invasive questions, and he’s a naturally private person who wants to avoid all of that entirely. hobbies. photography, cooking, video games phobias. acrophobia // fear of heights allergy. bee venom

chandler is the only child of john and susan linwood. susan is a doctor while john works for an advertising company. susan has always been a bit ‘out there’, with no brain-to-mouth filter and some very problematic viewpoints and opinions. john started drinking when chan was eight. actually, he relapsed into drinking again, but chandler doesn’t know he had an alcohol problem before that. chandler knew his parents loved him; one of their better parenting traits was making sure he didn’t forget that. but they weren’t mentally present enough to be very good parents. gradually his dad became angry and violent while he was drinking and that, coupled with chandler’s rebellious teenage years, made the linwood home a less and less safe place for chandler.

in high school, he was known for hanging out with the “wrong crowd”. he partied a lot, trying to mentally escape from his home life and normal teen angst stuff. he often mouthed off to teachers and got in trouble on a regular basis. but he also worked really hard in school, taking mostly AP classes while managing As and Bs. not many people knew what to make of that, and acted like he was just a troublemaker that was naturally gifted. but in reality he was juggling challenging school work, a busy social life, and doing all of the cooking and cleaning at home.

another thing chan had a reputation for was quickly rotating through girlfriends (and boyfriends, but there weren’t anywhere near as many guys to date at his suburban high school). but it wasn’t the situation everyone thought it was. as relationships became more physically intimate, he became more uncomfortable. as soon as sex was suggested, he would end the relationship. in hindsight, this wasn’t the best way to approach dating. but at the time, he had no idea asexuality was a thing and that he didn’t owe anyone sex just because they were in a relationship.

his longest high school relationship was madison. they had mutual friends and started hanging out. madison had a fairly obvious drug problem, but that didn’t bother chandler. a part of him was more attracted to her because of it, although he’d never admit that to anyone. plus she was asexual. this not only was how he found out that was a sexual orientation, but it also took a lot of anxiety out of the idea of dating and chandler fell hard.

madison easily grew jealous. she was biphobic, hated sharing chandler with anyone, and was often bossy and controlling. yet chandler noticed none of the red flags until it was too late. by the time he started trying to untangle himself from her, he couldn’t. he was scared what she would do to herself if he ended things, and as she became physically violent he was scared of what she would do to him as well. since he couldn’t get out of the situation, and had never learned healthy ways of coping with the stress and trauma in his life, he turned to binge drinking and self harm.

his way out came in the form of an acceptance letter from suffolk university. as soon as he graduated high school, he left for boston and never looked back.

while he had a great inner drive in high school, that came to a screeching halt once he started college. his motivation had always been to get out of wayzata. but now that he was finally free, he had no idea what to do. at the same time, he was dealing with the aftermath of both his dad and his ex-girlfriend’s abuse towards him.

while he continued pushing forward, he never found that motivation to really care about school or his future again. he’s in his final year of college and still hasn’t figured out what he wants to do with his life. he feels stuck and frustrated.

most people don’t know about his parents, or his struggles with mental health and self harm. he’s in total denial that he has a problem with alcohol. he simply doesn’t open up easily, preferring to surround himself with a shell that can become spiky if he feels uncomfortable. but he’s always cracking jokes and acting like he doesn’t take anything seriously, putting up a front so nobody looks too closely at the cracks.

while chandler is shit at taking care of his own needs, he’s amazing at taking care of other people. he will hold your hair back at a party while you throw up, make sure you drink enough water and electrolytes, then make you breakfast in the morning. he’s definitely a bit of a ‘mom friend’, although he doesn’t think he is.

he may act apathetic, but he cares. a lot. he’s a rather empathetic person. unfortunately he has the emotional intelligence of a spoon, so this isn’t always a good thing

sometimes when he’s drunk, chandler starts rambling about video game and/or cartoon conspiracy theories

also he really likes cooking for other people so if he asks to cook for you please just humor him and say yes

The huge building stared at you as you gaped at it, you felt as if it was almost calling you "broke" in 127 languages. It was obvious that every material that was used to build this place must have cost a lot of fortune. The look of surprise was written on your face, it was beyond of what you have imagined and if you were to be honest, you actually thought a city called "Yellow Wood" would come off as cheap, but this place is the complete opposite of that word.

The four-storey building was shaped like a huge box and in the shade of sapphire and light gray, with tinted glasses for walls that started from the ground and reached up to the very last floor of the building. Its unique design made it look modern and futuristic-the lack of ornament gave way to a clean aesthetic and the flat roofs gave emphasis on its horizontal and concrete planes. Overall, the beauty of its structure simply took your breath away.

"Are you just going to stand there?" The startling voice behind you made you jump and you felt like your soul had just left your body.

You clutched your pounding heart and turned around, there stood a guy who was kind of your age-he was wearing a white collared shirt that he neatly tucked inside of his denim pants- and you noticed that his shirt was buttoned up to the top that it looked almost suffocating in your opinion. Tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear, you muttered a quiet 'hello'.

"Do I know you? I haven't seen you around before," the stranger said, looking at you with furrowed eyebrows.

"I don't think so, I'm new. I just moved here yesterday." You said, looking at the ground and played with your fingers, you were never comfortable with talking to a stranger.

"That's cool! My name is Seungmin, Kim Seungmin," he said, offering his hand out and you politely shook it.

"I'm Y/n L/n," you said, slowly retracting your hand from his.

"That's a nice name, why don't I show you around?" Seungmin said, walking on ahead as you followed.

"That'd be nice, thank you Kim Seungmin," he chuckled at your politeness.

"Just Seungmin is fine."

Both of you headed to the front door that looked like it could accommodate a family giraffes. It was gigantic, "You don't have giants for students, do you?"

"Nope," Seugnmin said, popping the 'p' and smiled widely at you.

"Our school is just too extra, they wanted to emphasize their luxury by having a huge door and glass walls."

Looking around the place, you could attest that they were indeed extra; chandeliers were hung on the ceiling, clean and polished pale floors underneath you made you feel unworthy of stepping on them. In the middle of the lobby, you see an information desk and a big television attached to the wall above. Benches were scattered all around the place, it gave off a strong 'mall' vibe. But what you noticed the most is that the entrance hall seemed too vacant, aside from the three hallways that led to God knows where, some students rushing to their classrooms and some just sitting in the benches, that was all.

Is this really a school? You thought.

"You must be confused why it's too empty here," Seungmin said, looking at you as you nodded your head, absorbing the view.

"See that?" he said, pointing to a row of doors in one of the hallways that was located in the west side of the lobby.

"That's where our lockers are, and that one," he said, pointing to the east,

"That's where the faculty and staff stays, and lastly," you looked at the north, it was the longest of the hallways, each side had five elevators on them, and a wall at the end of it.

"It's our way to get to our classrooms to where we should be heading now because we're late." Seungmin finished, grabbing your arm and headed north but you stopped in your tracks causing him to look at you confusedly.

"You go on ahead, I still need to go the dean's office because I don't know where my classroom is." You said, smiling at him.

The look of realization appeared on his face and he quickly scratched the back of his head.

"Right, you're new. Just go to the east wing, each door is labeled with its corresponding college department." You thanked him and started to turn towards the east side when he suddenly called you,

"Y/n, I'll give you my number so we can continue with your tour, if you want to." He said, face turning to a shade of pink that you actually found kind of cute.

"I'd love to, I'll text you so you can come get me," you said, lending him a pen and reaching out your hand towards him.

He scribbled his number on your palm and left to his class while you headed for the dean's office. Stopping at the door that had a "Forensic Science Department" sign above it, you knocked politely before opening it. There were cubicles for the faculty on each side and a wooden door at the middle end.

"May I help you?" You turned to a teacher who was wearing a large spectacles with a stern look on her face.

"Good morning, Ma'am. My name is Y/n L/n, I'm a transfer student." you said, bowing respectfully.

She curtly nodded her head and pointed to the door in the middle end of the room. You thanked her and rushed to the said door, quietly opening it and as soon as you walked in, a rotting stench hit your nose almost instantly, you fought back the urge to vomit and squeaked out a tiny 'good morning'. In the room with you, there was a woman who looked like she was in her late 40's, so you assumed that she was the dean. She was dissecting a dead cat and you concluded that's where the horrid smell came from.

"Yes? Who are you?" she asked as she removed shards of glass from the cat, creating a squelching sound whenever a shard left the flesh.

"M-my Name is Y-Y/n L/n, I-I am a t-transfer s-student," you stammered, the dean put down the forceps and turned to you.

"Do you have speech impediment?" You shook your head and cowered when she rolled her eyes at you.

"Then speak up, girl. I couldn't understand a thing with what you just said," she said, looking irritated.

You swallowed the lump in your throat and let out a shaky breath.

"M-my name is Y/n L/n, I'm a transfer student," you said, introducing yourself.

"What year are you in?" she asked, removing her gloves and headed towards you, dried blood smeared all over her lab coat.

"I'm beginning my third this year,"

"How come you've only transferred now?" she questioned, narrowing her eyes.

You averted her strong gaze and found her messy dissecting table quite fascinating at the moment.

"My father and I had to move here because of his work, and I was offered a scholarship," you said, looking around the office.

She must have been outstanding in this field because there were diplomas and awards that hung proudly on her walls, and a plaque with "Linda Suh, Ph.D." imprinted on it sat neatly on top of her desk.

"Hmm, a scholar huh? Do you have your papers with you?" you frantically searched your bag and took out a folder, handing it to Dr. Suh. She flipped through your papers, humming every now and then.

"You have an exceptionally high grades, it would be an honor to have you as our student," how her demeanor instantly changed from stern to kind, terrified you.

"There's only one section for BS Forensic Science because not everyone has the guts to choose a career path where you always see blood and the human anatomy,"

"But this course is broad though, you don't always have to be present at a crime, you could be a forensic accountant-"

"What about you, Miss. L/n? Would you like to be on the scene of the crime?"

Dr. Suh's question played on a loop inside your brain the whole trip towards your classroom, of course you wanted to be a forensic analyst, you wanted to be in the field and not detect embezzlement or deal with taxes. You mindlessly entered your classroom which caused the door to slam a little too hard. Everyone snapped their heads towards you and you lowered down your head, embarrassed by your rashness.

"You must be Miss. L/n, class this is our transfer student. No time for introduction, go sit wherever you like," Your professor said, dismissing you and continued with her class.

You could still feel eyes set on you when you sat on the third row but they soon shifted their attention back to the screen. Scribbling down your notes, you noticed that you have already tackled this at your University back at home but you reckoned it was better to write them down again. The door slid open once more and revealed an attractive young guy with light brown hair, and when he entered the room,a bunch of girls murmuring and giggling with each other filled your ears.

"Mr. Lee, it's the first day of school and you're late,"

"I'm sorry Ms. Park, won't happen again," his deep voice charmed you and his Australian accent wasn't helping your curiosity either. Prof. Park sighed and told him to take a seat.

Highlighting the things you didn't understand, you ignored the young man. A series of 'you can sit with me' erupted in the room but Prof. Park quickly hushed them and went on with her lecture. You felt a presence standing next to you which caused you to look up and meet eyes with "Mr. Lee".

"Can I help you?" you asked, staring at his freckles.

"You're new aren't you?" He asked and you pursed your lips together, nodding nonchalantly.

"Can I sit next to you, then?" he asked, pulling out the chair to your left and you just mumbled a simple “whatever”.

"I'm Lee Felix, and you're definitely new?" he asked once again, looking like he doesn’t believe that he had a new classmate.

"yes, I am new," you said tiredly.

"Then aren't you going to tell me your name?"

"Do I have to?" that earned you a chuckle from him and glares from his 'fangirls'.

"Well, it's common courtesy to say your name when the other party introduced themselves to you," you sighed and set your pen down.

"My name is Y/n, I'm a transfer student, and that's all you need to know." You finally answered, before turning back to your notes.

You didn't mean to come off as rude to him, but it made you uncomfortable with how you earned harsh looks just by talking to him. He mumbled a soft 'fair' but did no effort to hide his amused smile at all.

"Y/n, I could show you-" Felix started but you were already gone, he chuckled to himself and watched your figure disappear from the crowd.

You took out your phone from your pocket and texted Seungmin, who told you to meet him at the cafeteria, and luckily, both of you had the same lunch breaks. You went to the extension building because that's where the map said the cafeteria would be.

"Y/n!" You immediately recognized Seungmin's voice and you see him sitting in one of the tables with a guy who had a pretty peach-colored hair and who looked younger than you. You walked towards him and he instantly offered you a seat next to him, to which you gladly accepted.

"Y/n, this my friend, Yang Jeongin, he's in his second year," Seungmin said, introducing the young lad in front of you.

He shyly reached out his hands and you firmly shook it.

"Which reminds me, what year are you in and what's your major?" Seungmin asked.

"I'm in my third year-"

"Cool, we're in the same year then," he cut you off and you raised an eyebrow at him, he muttered a quick sorry then told you to continue.

"-and I take BS Forensic Science." Jeongin gaped at you.

"Wow, you must have a lot of guts to be taking that course."

"It's not all that brutal," you said, scratching the back of your neck and giving him a shy smile.

"Well, I major in BS Journalism," Seungmin said, showing you his camera and pointed at Jeongin.

"And he's taking law," Jeongin nodded his head, glancing at his law books.

"That's great! Maybe we could all work together fighting crimes after we graduate," you joked, watching the boys stifle a laugh.

Excusing yourself, you went to grab your food since the boys already had theirs. You thanked the lunch lady and as you started to walk back to your table, a hand suddenly grabbed your shoulders, you snapped your head towards the owner of the said hand and let out a sigh when you saw that it was only Felix.

"What do you want now, Felix?" you asked, heart still beating from your nervousness.

"Oh, don't be so grumpy new girl, I'm just here to offer you a seat with my friends."

"No thanks, I have made friends that I'd rather sit with," and with that, you made your way back to your table, ignoring Felix's calls.

"Was that Lee Felix?" Seungmin asked as you set your tray down, you nodded and sat down on your own seat.

"Yeah, he's my classmate." you said, stabbing the chicken with your fork.

"You shouldn't be friends with him," Jeongin interjected which caused you to cock your eyebrow at him.

Pointing his chopsticks towards Felix's table, you finally got to see his group of friends. There were five of them in the table; Felix was in between two raven-haired boys, one was wearing glasses and the other was an extremely tall and handsome looking guy-he looked unreal, you thought.

In front of them sat a dirty blonde-haired guy with cheeks that made him look like a squirrel as he chowed down his food, and a guy that made your breath hitch in your throat- he had curly blonde hair and was wearing a muscle tee that showed off his toned arms, you were going to be honest, it wasn't his muscles that caught your attention, but it was something about him that made you feel drawn to his presence. He looked...familiar.

"They're the Elites, their fathers are powerful and you don't want to mess with them," Jeongin said, stuffing his mouth with kimchi.

"Except for Bang Chan, it's that blonde buff guy, we don't know who his parents are but they're friends with him," Seungmin added.

Bang Chan. Even his name sounded familiar. Who is he? you silently thought.

After your class ended, you and Jeongin decided to wait for Seungmin at one of the benches in the lobby, you were laughing at a joke Jeongin had cracked when the news suddenly caught your attention.

"Mayor Lee's secretary, Kim Hyunae, has been reported missing when she had not returned nor reported to work for three days. She was last seen at a café near the Yellow Wood City Hall at 9:28 in the evening. If you have any information about Ms. Kim Hyunae, please do not hesitate to call the Yellow Wood Police Department or the nearest police station near you."

"That's too bad, she used to bring Felix's stuff here when he had forgotten them at his home," Jeongin sighed.

"D-do you think she's dead?" you asked nervously to Jeongin, who just shrugged.

"Crimes are rare here at Yellow Wood, the chief of police, who's also Bang Chan's uncle, is really good at keeping the crime rates to almost a zero."

Kim Hyunae's picture they flashed on the screen, making you stare at it intently. Yellow Wood seems to be more interesting than you thought.

"-have any information about Ms. Kim Hyunae, please do not hesitate to call the Yellow Woo-" silence filled the department as the chief turned off the television.

Rubbing his temples, he reached towards his sixth cup of coffee but then released a sigh when he realized that it was empty. The Mayor had been putting him under pressure to find the secretary. Crimes were not unusual in this part of the city, there are muggings occasionally, but a missing person was new to everyone. It started a fear in him that there may be a threat emerging in the perfect city of Yellow Wood.

"Chief Wang?" the tired chief whipped his head and faced a concerned cadet. He was a new recruit and one of the best at the training school, to which why the chief of police handpicked him.

"Any reports about the missing case, Cadet Seo?" the cadet lowered his head and shook it slowly, Chief Wang grunted in frustration and rubbed his eyes.

It had been two days since he had proper sleep and not finding any clues about this hopeless case stressed him even more. This could risk his position at the department.

"But I think she was not murdered, Chief, just kidnapped." Cadet Seo said, making Chief Wang stare at him questioningly.

"What makes you think so?"

"Well, as far as I know, Secretary Kim has always been a sweetheart. There's no one that could possibly hold a grudge towards her," the young trainee said, handing the sleep deprived man a fresh cup of hot coffee.

"But... Mayor Lee has enemies everywhere. There could be a possibility that Secretary Kim was kidnapped-"

"-To gain information and find the Mayor's weaknesses." Chief Wang finished and the cadet nodded approvingly.

Chief Wang took a sip from the coffee and looked at the file, there may be hope about this case after all.

Entering your apartment quietly, you kicked your shoes off and hung your jacket on your coat rack. You breathed out a sigh of relief, you had made it inside just before the rain poured down. Taking a look at the apartment, you could see that what you have was small since you weren't rich, but you told yourself that you could still call it home. You passed your living room and noticed that the television was on, showing nothing but static.

"Good evening, Dad," the figure of a man was turned back against you, bottles of beer scattered on the floor making you assume that he must be wasted again. You turned off the television and went to the kitchen, pouring yourself a glass of apple juice when the books on the shelves suddenly fell.

The alarming sound made your spine tingle with fear, you looked at the shelves and to the open window next to it, you figured the wind must've knocked them off. Quickly closing it and shutting the blinds off, you rushed inside your room and got ready for bed. The city itself was beautiful but having an apartment next to dark alleys made you anxious. You decided to call it a day and fell asleep with the missing secretary's face haunting your dreams.

1. If you could choose one fictional world to live in, where would you go?

definitely Assassin’s Creed and only because I would be trying my best to get a job at abstergo for the animus, templars or not

2. What are the strangest traits you find in your characters?

i don’t really think there are any tbh, maybe i should make some...

3. If you were a mage, what kind would you be/what would your magic focus on?

definitely shadow magic, fight me

heck to the no because Chosen One is way too much time and dedication and I’m barely able to manage my classes

definitely graduate with my BS in IT, possibly go to Grad school to focus on machine learning or do something more with my robotics minor. then a tech company most likely

The plot and subplots mostly because as long as i have those, i often find my characters developing themselves as the story progresses

i think it was one that i’ve shared (and am currently on hiatus for) called an empire of deceit (sorry my shift bar is not cooperating hence why everything is weirdly lowercase). I believe it was close to 50k?

BTS Tag Questions

I was tagged by @lux-astrorum Thanks dear!

1. First BTS song? Dope was the first song I ever heard, but Young Forever/Fire were the ones that really pulled me into the Kpop hole.

2. First bias? Joon and Kookie, because for some reason I chose to double bias right out the gate.

3. Current bias? Suga! It’s honestly the longest I’ve kept a bias (going strong since just after YNWA came out)

4. Put the members in order of your bias list. Well this isn’t very fair. It’s not even a list! It’s more of a bias, bias wrecker, then wrecker of that bias wrecker. But fine. Suga, Jhope, V, RM, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook. Please keep in mind that it’s essentially Suga as 1st, Jhope and V as 2nd and the rest as 3rd.

5. Favourite BTS Song? it’s way to hard to say. But I guess one I almost never skip in the car is Airplane pt. 2 and Anpanman. But like, it truly depends on what kind of mood I’m in.

6. Favourite BTS song that is underrated? See but what’s considered underrated though. Because what Tumblr ARMY and Twitter ARMY consider underrated seem to be different things. I love Hip Hop Phile (I love that whole album in general but yea). But I also love Autumn Leaves. So I think it depends on your definition of underrated.

7. Favourite song of Wings? Listen, this is my favorite album from them and you’re asking me to pick? Each song holds a special place in my heart. But god do I love getting down to 21st Century Girl and Am I Wrong?

8. Favourite song of LY Her, Tear and Answer? Her: I really liked Pied Piper and Best of Me (even though soo many people hated this song????)

Tear: Anpanman and Airplane pt.2 but god does Outro: Tear just hit different.

Answer: Just Dance and Seesaw hands down.

9. Favourite music video? That’s an excellent question. I love BS&T because it’s so pleasing, but like Fake Love was also very nice. Young Forever was sooo pretty as well and Spring Day. So I guess it depends on the day

10. Favourite dancer? See, I love the entire dance line. I love Jhope’s style of dance but I appreciate Jimin’s because it matches what little dance training I do have.

11. Favourite vocalist? Well ouch. I love Tae’s voice, he has such a wonderful range. But listen Jimin’s voice is amazing (especially in Come Back Home if you know what I’m talking about)

12. Favourite rapper? Suga. Like I love the entire rapline. But there is just something about a rapper saying such badass things with such a slight lisp that gives him brownie points.

13. Favourite hair colour for each member?

Namjoon - I loved the pink he had for Run and the purple for YNWA

Jin -the pink from Wings was such a royal color. though I gotta be honest the hair for that era was amazing for pretty much everyone. Runner up has to be his hair from Danger era.

Suga - I love mint Suga, but I also loved the silver and black he had for 2016 (even his blond phase in the middle)

Jhope - that orange/brown color from Wings. Again there wasn’t much bad from that era.

Jimin - I loved his hair from YNWA but I also love his hair for BWL. So that pink/orange color!

Taehyung - I love his blue hair! It suits him, though his split color from Idol reminded me of Todoroki from BNHA and I also enjoyed that

Kookoo - Cherry Kook from Idol!!!! Though his purpleish black hair from Dope was very nice too!

14. Favourite choreography?

NOOOOOO. I LOVE DANCING TO MUCH!! I loved BS&T choreo, but also Fake Love. And Jhope’s Boy Meets Evil!

15. Favourite ships?

I don’t think of ship in the same way that everyone else does. I think of it as a platonic soulmate over a love ship. So SOPE! and the maknae line in general and Jin and RM. Really the bond they all share is lovely!

‘He loves me more than he loves himself’: Sophie Turner chats romance with Joe Jonas as she joins Maisie Williams for GLAMOUR’s SS19 cover shoot

Yass Queens! Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams became megawatt stars as the slaying Stark Sisters in Game of Thrones. Here, in their first-ever joint cover shoot, they let us in on the friendship and the fierce attitude that will take them beyond Westeros. Words By: Josh Smith

“People always think Maisie and I are a couple. I mean, I am obsessed with her, so you never know,” Sophie Turner deadpans about her Game Of Thrones on-screen sister. “She’s my drug. I’ve got an addiction to Maisie Williams. I actually stalk her hashtag on Instagram!”

When the two actors are united on GLAMOUR’s shoot there are squeals, huge hugs and even – to prove the above point – a bit of dry-humping. The on-set vibe? A sticky floor away from a Saturday night out OUT.

Anyone who might suggest their chemistry isn’t real off-screen would likely be met with the full ‘Stark sister’ wrath; an electrifying on-screen pairing that has helped turn Game Of Thrones (GOT) into the biggest TV show in the world, with a global audience of millions. Yet the world of ‘Mophie’ (as fans have dubbed them), is as free from Hollywood artifice as you could wish for.

Maisie, 21, and Sophie, 23, met aged 12 and 13 respectively during the audition process for GOT, back in 2009. Practically love at first sight, email addresses were exchanged and, “Honestly, we’ve been best friends ever since,” says Sophie. Following many raucous nights in and out (more on that later), their constant stream of text messages to one another, and the matching ‘07.08.09’ tattoos on their forearms (the date they landed their roles), these two – in true GOT fashion – have pledged allegiance to each other for life.

“Put us in the same room and we pick up where we left off,” adds Maisie. “We’ve always been really open with each other. As you get older, the stakes are higher, the problems get worse – so it’s built into a lifelong friendship. Sophie knows too much about me to not be my friend.”

Sisters In Arms

Despite coming of age in the public eye, the pair have managed to avoid the child-star curse of burning out too soon. And they both credit each other with getting through it.

Pushing her vegan meal around a takeaway box with her fork as they both take a break from shooting, Maisie serves a refreshing dish of disclosure. “I can’t tell you the amount of times Sophie said, ‘Go to therapy,’ before I actually did. She really helped me through some messy break-ups and some friend break-ups. Whenever I’m like, ‘I need help! This is bigger than anything I can sort out on my own,’ Sophie is my point of call. I think therapy is so important. You should absolutely speak to someone, even if in your head you go, ‘Yeah, I knew that!’”

Sophie agrees, “We’ve helped each other through a lot of mental-health problems, especially around body image. She’s been my crutch in that, and I’ve been hers because it seems everything she goes through, I go through. You know when girls are together a long time, their periods sync up? It’s like our emotions and personalities sync up, too.”

While many high-profile actors may balk at being open about their mental health so early in their careers, both Maisie and Sophie feel passionately about sharing their struggles. With a combined social-media following of 20 million and counting, they’re fully aware of how their position enables them to help others. “I’ve gone through some lows in my life and I want to come out of them in a positive way and help people,” says Sophie. “I actually have a really big problem with not being able to stand up for myself,” she adds. “Especially if I’m arguing against a man. Jessica Chastain [who Sophie worked with on new X-Men film Dark Phoenix] is the one that said it to me, ‘You need to stand up for yourself more!’” She’s referring to the time when an actor she worked with “walked off set” when it was time for her to say her lines, and a writer stood in for him. “She [Jessica] said, ‘Just go and talk to him, go and say something to him!’ I’m a bit of a shy, pushover person, but I’m getting there, I’m working on it.”

The work is paying off: in January this year, she went into battle on Twitter with Piers Morgan after he said celebrities were making mental-health problems ‘fashionable’. Sophie blasted back: “Or maybe they have a platform to speak out about it and help get rid of the stigma of mental illness, which affects one in four people in the UK per year. But please go ahead and shun them back into silence. Twat.” Don’t mess with a Stark.

Sharing The Throne

While they seem incredibly in tune with their bodies on GLAMOUR’s set, like anyone constructing an identity in our social-media age, the topic of body image has been part of their lives since GOT first drew swords in 2011. How has playing tomboy Arya Stark – who is largely devoid of sexuality – during her formative teenage years affected the way Maisie perceives herself? “I’ve never felt very pretty because I’ve never been portrayed as very pretty on screen. I actually think that’s really great, but in terms of how I personally feel, it’s been difficult sometimes,” she says.

But being on set with women of all ages, shapes and sizes, from Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey to 6ft 3in Gwendoline Christie – has helped both actors. “I’ve met incredible women who all look very different. They all had really positive messages for us,” adds Maisie. “But I don’t know that you can ever really get away from the intense pressure of body image when you’re an actor. It was something I never cared about. I never thought I was fat until I became an actor – and I’m not fat! I don’t know any young woman that I’ve spoken to in this industry who hasn’t struggled one way or another with their appearance. I just think it’s very hard to escape.”

Building a positive body image is something Maisie has struggled with outside the bubble of GOT’s seven kingdoms, “Especially when you get down to the final three for a role. You can all be really talented, but ultimately it comes down to the way you look. It’s hard not to obsess over that. I try to nip it in the bud because it’s self-destructive.”

These doubts have also, in turn, sadly affected Sophie. “When I first started out acting, I thought, ‘Arghhh, I’m going to have to be really skinny for the rest of my life,’ and I’m not naturally that kind of person. But when it came to filming X-Men [Sophie started playing Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypsein 2016], I saw Jennifer Lawrence, who is small, but curvy and not your typical ‘skinny star’. It made me feel so good that people see these women as powerful superheroes, and they don’t have to be stick thin – that’s how it should be. That’s how women should be depicted in every film.”

The Wedding Is Coming

Sophie’s life has transformed, over the past two years in particular, with one fashion ambassadorship for Louis Vuitton and one blindingly huge engagement ring from her pop-star other half – Joe Jonas – who proposed in October 2017 after an 11-month romance. In true Gen-Z fashion, an Instagram announcement followed, along with his and hers Addams Family Halloween costumes, two pooches and a Swiss ski holiday with her in-laws to be, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra(who Sophie affectionately nicknames her J-Sister).

But the biggest changes, she says, have actually come from within. “I think for the longest time I didn’t have a real sense of myself. I had a bit of an identity crisis where I was playing all these people and I’d grown up faster than I probably should have done. I hadn’t been able to experience university, or just spend a lot of time with friends, so for a while I kept thinking, ‘Who am I?’

“A lot of [my happiness now] is to do with being with a person I’ve fallen in love with, who loves me more than he loves himself, and who wants to see me find my own happiness. That was probably the biggest thing that pushed me to find who I am – and find my happiness in things other than acting.” Her happy hobby: “I love a painting sesh. It’s actually really tragic; it’s like the worst painting you’ve ever seen, but I love doing it!”

As someone who fiercely protects her private life, talk of Joe is usually off limits. How has the prying media reshaped her life? Showing a hint of exasperation with the situation, Sophie says, “I appreciate the private moments more than the public ones; I don’t go out as much as I used to. I’m a hermit. As an actor, it’s important to be able to dissolve into a character, to maintain some sort of anonymity and it’s hard if you’re dating a Jonas brother. Well, I think they [the paparazzi] follow Joe – I’m just the tag-along!”

Faced with following the wedding of 2018 (sorry Meghan!), of Priyanka and Nick, a leaked ‘save the date’ suggests Sophie’s dream wedding will take place in France this year. While Sophie won’t confirm or deny any of the details, her bridesmaid Maisie revealed that she’s got a full-throttle hen do planned. But how much of a planner is Sophie? Did she ever foresee getting married at just 23 years old? “I’m actually not a planner at all,” she laughs. “I’m more of a procrastinator. I plan at the last minute and definitely don’t have a five-year plan. I’m not thinking, ‘I wanna have an Oscar by the time I’m 30.’ I just like to ride the wave of life and see where it takes me, rather than setting a plan out for myself. It’s more fun that way, it’s more spontaneous.”

Stark Solidarity

Growing up on set, hundreds of miles away from their homes in Warwickshire and Somerset, meant Sophie (who has two elder brothers) and Maisie (also the youngest in her family, with three older siblings) became each other’s standard bearers on set. How much did this closeness help when working in an industry at the centre of #MeToo? “I never experienced any of that,” Sophie says. “But Maisie is definitely my protector and I’m hers, too. I know if anything happened – especially if it was on Game Of Thrones, which it never, ever would – she’d go fucking crazy and protect me. To have a sister there, a woman who gets how degrading and awful it can be, and how you’re expected to be so submissive in your work, can be very comforting. Maisie is my strong home.”

And the feeling is mutual: “Sophie is someone who really looks out for me. I could call her at any time, and she would pick up. I think that goes a long way in this industry, because you have a lot of friends, but you’re never quite sure of how deep that goes. People surprise you all the time in life.

“I broke up from a best friend in a really messy and difficult way. It was so hard because I like to stay in touch with the people I grew up with. I couldn’t figure out what I’d done and whether I was a bad person – it was tough. Sophie helped me realise I wasn’t the bad person I thought I was.”

Does Maisie still worry about fame affecting her friendships? “Oh God, yeah. It’s all I think about. Well, it’s not, I think about boys a lot, too!” She has remained notably low-key about her long-term relationship with Ollie Jackson – who she met at school – except for the odd exchanging of fire emojis on Instagram and public Trivial Pursuit disputes.

As well as being there to support each other away from The North, Sophie and Maisie are also partial to a prank on set. “Even though we’re sisters [in GOT], we tried to sneak a kiss into every scene we did together to freak everyone out a bit,” Sophie laughs. “It kept them on their toes; making sure they were following the script.”

This sense of fun has helped them cope with the unblinking barbarity their characters face in GOT. Spoiler alert – by the close of season seven, Arya (Maisie) had murdered 64 people and Sansa (Sophie) had been forced into an arranged marriage and suffered continuous abuse. But they have become each other’s escape off camera. Maisie recalls one memorable night out-out when they went to [London nightclub] Fabric the night before flying to LA for the GOT premiere, two seasons ago. “I don’t think either of us went to bed. That was good fun!” Although, she admits, “Our nights in are better than our nights out. We put on Frank Ocean’s Blonde, go to Tesco and get a meal deal. We love watching clips of people on X Factor who get aggressive.”

It gets better, “When we were filming and staying together, we would give each other makeovers,” says Sophie. “I turned Maisie into a Goth once – and just ran around the hotel. We also like to play Ding Dong Ditch a lot, just stupid, childish shit.”

Done Playing Games

Fundamentally, what makes this friendship so remarkable is that there’s zero competition between them. They even constantly recommend each other for potential new roles, something that Maisie thinks is rare in the industry. “For a long time in my career, I didn’t really meet anyone whowas mean or acted like a diva, but then I did,” she says.

“There’s a real lack of respect when people are bitchy on set.” For someone who was heavily bullied when she returned to school after filming the first series of GOT (Maisie even discovered that an anonymous account abusing her online was set up by someone she knew) this experience brought back painful memories of playground politics. “It felt like I was back at school,” she says. “It’s like, ‘We’ve all been given this amazing opportunity and now you’re making it unpleasant for me.’”

It’s hardly surprising that Maisie and Sophie’s anti-Mean Girls approach applies to supporting other young actors they know, too. “Sometimes I think, ‘Oh God, we’re probably all going up for the same roles,’” says Sophie. “‘We’re all the same age, [are we] just going to be catty towards each other?’ But all the women I’ve worked with have been very supportive – and vice versa. I want them to do well because women should be all in it together. I go for a lot of roles that people like Zoey Deutch go for, or Chloë Moretz, but they’re my friends – I really want them to get those roles, and half the time they’re better at the roles than me anyway, so I’m fine with it. I’m glad I didn’t embarrass myself!”

The End Is Coming…

As they both venture into a post-GOT world – Maisie will follow Sophie into the X-Men franchise, with a new, separate film: The New Mutants. Don’t bank on seeing them reunited on screen any time soon, though (sigh). “Everyone on set is sick and tired of us being so loud and laughing so much!” says Maisie. “I don’t know if we’ll work together again. I don’t know if people would cast us in something together because we are so known for these two characters. Game Of Thrones will be some of the funniest days of my life.”

However, their rallying call to young women will outlive GOT. “It’s about what’s in your mind and how clever you are at playing the game – that’s more important and will get you further than how you look,” Maisie adds. “Being switched on, aware, analysing, and understanding people is going to get you so much further than being pretty.” Advertisement

So, what about those final series plot spoilers? While Maisie jokes that you’d have to get her “very drunk”, to reveal the ending, someone else is already in the know. “I’ve just told Joe [Jonas],” confesses Sophie. “But he’s so mad at me – he loves the show!” She shrugs sheepishly. “Well, I have to tell someone, otherwise I’ll burst.” That’s right, Mophie play by their own rules.

Since there was so much BS in the fandom today, time to share some love! :)

- @zeta-jane is an absolute godsend of a friend. They are sassy, funny, talkative, energetic and so full of amazing ideas!!! Zeta is always there for me when I need someone to lean on. They’re such a kind friend and they will not hesitate, baitch to fight people who hurt me- probably because they know I’d do the same for them! They’re such good company both online and IRL, and I am blessed to have met them! I am even more blessed to be writing City of Dust and Shadows with them, which has become the longest fic either of us has ever written! We may or may not surpass it with our future collabs, however ;) They are just the coolest person ever and they deserve all the love in the world. I adore them so much!!! TUT

- @mikayu-chan is such a got damn SWEETHEART. They are trying to see the positive side of things, especially after so much fandom drama in the past, and I’m so so proud of them for trying their hardest to live their best life. They have it way too hard and I want to give them a big ole hug and many days of fun!!! They always make me laugh and we have a great time on calls! I’m glad that we see eye-to-eye on so many things and that we continue to teach each other new things all the time!! I love calling with her and talking, I love writing with her and everything else!! We always have so much fun, I swear I can’t talk to her without laughing my ass off at least once XD we’re always DJDJDHDHDHDJD’ing at each other because we just can’t find the right words to express how hard we’re agreeing with each other/laughing omfg. - @yuudefensesquad is sUCH A GOOD BEAN who deals with SO MUCH and she just needs a big ole hug and lots of Yuuchan i stg. Caydence is such a funny funky lil nugget and I protecc her with my life okay. Her art? Flawless. Her shitposts? FUCKIN HILARIOUS. Her meta? Super engaging and intriguing! Her bravery? ABOVE US ALL LOL. She is just awesome and I’m glad I forcefully adopted her into my lil family of mikayuu nerds bc it just wouldn’t be the same without her. Caydence ily never stop being you. A lot of shit challenges her irl and everywhere else, but she still keeps her head up and man I really respect her.

- @mikaisatop is MY FRICKIN RIGHT HAND MAN. My SOULMATE. SARAHHH I ADORE YOU. You might be busy rn but I love you so much girl ;__; even though she’s busy I always bother her bc I want her to know I wouldn’t ever forget about her!! I’m so happy we got to collab so much and will continue doing so!! Winter’s Waltz is so much fun to write and I’m so happy she is writing it with me anyways despite such a busy schedule. If it weren’t for Sarah we wouldn’t have so much good MikaYuu content and I applaud her for it!!

- @6lilystrings9 IS JUST THE BOMB DOT FUCKIN COM. Lily and I didn’t super duper connect until more recently but omg talking with her is just a freakin BLAST. We always get so hype with each other, even over each other’s fandoms that we aren’t even in!!! Something about the energy in her pulls out the energy in me and we just get GOING lmao. She is so very talented and amazing and a fascinating person all around! I’m so glad we got to hang a bit at KatsuCon in 2017 but I hope we can do that again in the future! I miss her all the time!

- @weirdfairytales is the MAN. THE MYTH. THE LEGEND. Anna is just the biggest definition of a meme I can think of and I LOVE her for it. I’m so glad that we met way back when MikaYuuHell Skype existed and that she thought of the masterpiece that is Cherry Boy one wild night. I’m so glad we continued to be great friends and talk about so many things. I love when our messages get super long cause we just have so many things to say XD Cosplaying Victuuri with her at Katsu was so lit, and I can’t express how much I love her Victuuri fic too!!!

- @hannaadi88 is such. a. sweetheart. I can’t say it enough. Hanna does so much and gets so little I stfg yall need to APPRECIATE HER MORE. Her writing is STUNNING and the projects she makes for this fandom are just outstanding!!! From gift exchanges (I SAID ONS REMIX BEFORE IM SORRY i was wrong XD) to 365 Days of Mika and Yuu, she has put in so much for us constantly! She has also granted us with the lovely fic Scented, and not to mention one of my favorite fics of ALL TIME, Eye of Horus- the Ancient Egypt take on Unwritten!!! And she named it that without knowing my first tattoo is literally the eye of horus! XD I was shook lmfao and I still am. Meeting Hanna was amazing and the day I spent with her and @ihavetobenkyou (who is also a-freaking-MAZING and a big bundle of goodness!!!!!!) is one I’ll never forget. She’s so chill and just gives off this ‘wise’ aura idk why but I just look up to Hanna so much. No matter what she writes I will always support her and you all should too!!!

- @just-another-dream-about-yuu is ONE OF MY FAVORITE HUMANS TO EVER HUMAN. Julia omfg I cannot express how much I love you. TwT Julia is not only one of the most talented artists I have ever seen, but she is so sweet and fun and so full of energy and excitement!! She’s super busy with adulting so she’s not around in the fandom a whole lot but I always make sure to include her bc I won’t let her leave XD JULIA YOU CANNOT ESCAPE…. lmfao I will always drag you back… I won’t ever forget the day I got a twitter notification that someone drew me Unwritten fanart and the croaking sound I made was insane LMAO my friend who was with me was like WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED XD I was so excited!!! I still adore every piece of fanart she’s given me and I always will. Thank you, Julia, for bringing my imagination to life so many times, for showing me what you saw when you read my writing. It means more than I can say.

- @coleglend is the most underappreciated person in this fandom I swear. Or, who was in this fandom- Cole is off doing other things besides OnS, but regardless, she is so very amazing and beyond talented. I can’t even express how beautiful her art is and the emotions each piece sparks in me. Even her new Marvel artworks are just breathtaking and I truly admire them!!! I don’t know anyone who can make such detailed, visually engaging art- everything she creates belongs in a museum I swear. I want to print them and frame them for my walls!!! I look at her art all the time!!! Now that I’ve established how gorgeous her art is, talk about Cole as a person! She’s so sweet and kind and I love seeing her little posts on Instagram and such, even though I can’t understand most of them, I like seeing that she’s with friends and having a good time.

- @linnpuzzle is one of the coolest most amazing people in this fandom!!! Her art is STUNNING and as she knows, I will drop everything to commission her and buy her merch because I just am addicted to her gorgeous art!!! I am so honored to have some of her art as part of my collection of OnS things and I am forever going to treasure the commissions I’ve purchased from her!! Besides being a great artist, I love talking with Linn, too! I’m so glad we have things in common outside of MikaYuu, like Voltron and Kyo Kara Maoh :D Linn is truly too good for this world and she deserves everything okokok.

- @zilleniose-chu is truly an ICON of this fandom. We don’t talk alot outside of business stuff lolol but they are just freakin amazing!!! I adore their art so much- I always have, ever since I first saw their page!!- and I LOVE their AU’s and headcanons!! They are full of such great ideas and humor and they can share those ideas through really stunning and captivating artwork

OK OK I;M OUT OF STEAM I’VE BEEN TYPING THIS FOREVER OK i could go ON AND ON about even MORE people in this fandom but that would take me literal ages LMAO

TO EVERYONE ELSE, WHO I DIDN’T MENTION BC MY BRAIN IS JUMBLED AND I AM EXHAUSTED: I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. DONT STOP CREATING. THE FANDOM IS A FLAMING GARBAGE HEAP SOMETIMES LIKE IT WAS TODAY. But DON’T LET THAT STOP YOU from having a good time, doing what you love, and creating things that you are proud to share!!! And if your heart leads you elsewhere, to a different brand new fandom, I hope you always remember the people you inspired with your work!! I hope you forget the bad memories and always treasure the good ones. I hope that we can be friends and/or that I can continue supporting you no matter where we all end up in the years to come. And if you decide to support me too, I give you my biggest, most heartfelt thanks.

No matter how ridiculous this fandom can get and how much stupid discourse can dampen the mood and disappoint me, I will never let it stop me from loving MikaYuu and OnS and what I do. I will never let it stop me from writing all that my crazy little heart wants. I will continue to write until my passion dies, and when that day comes I will probably cry as I say goodbye and resort to watching from the sidelines as everyone else carries on. I will never forget the fun I had here. These past 3 years have been so impactful already, and I know the future ones will continue to be- with the old friends, with the new friends, and with friends to be made!!

Let’s spread love more often rather than hate. I encourage anyone who feels inclined to make posts (maybe not as long as mine if you dont want XDD) talking about your favorite creators and friends in the fandom, too! Or, if that seems too corny to you, just continue to draw, write, edit, and cosplay! Continue to make people laugh and smile and cry and swoon! Continue to support creators by leaving comments and kudos, by liking and reblogging, by following and commissioning, and sharing and crediting their work wherever you can! Continue to make a difference!
