ppl are too quick to point to laios' disability as the reason his friends think he's a freak sometimes. so many instances of laios getting yelled at are, in my eyes, a case of "this guy had to emotionally mature very early in order to be there for his little sister" combined with "much older friends who never had to learn to manage their own emotions to the same degree"

a lot of the time he's right about needing to be more direct/deal with things in a way that may seem scary/needing to put your gut reaction aside. he tries not to make his friends uncomfortable and he puts up with a lot because he's trying to keep the peace, but he also pushes the others out of their comfort zones purposefully to try to get them to think more constructively. everyone else in the party is prone to acting on their gut instincts and avoiding uncomfortable situations even when facing them head-on is very much necessary. part of what makes laios such a great leader is the fact that he knows from experience how to put his own feelings aside to help someone else grow.

yes, he does make a lot of social blunders by accident and he does struggle to connect with others, but not all of his positive influence on others is accidental or "despite" making people uncomfortable. a lot of the time, I think it's clear he knows exactly what he's doing and he's trying to help the people around him process emotions in a healthy way as they all go through some truly harrowing shit. all the main characters support each other as well as they can with their unique emotional skillsets. laios' skillset just happens to be "gently talk child into eating her vegetables"

#deerchatter #dungeon meshi #laios touden #of course this IS also connected to his disability. bc having an iron grip on your own emotional reaction is often needed to survive #in an ableist society. and he wouldn't have had to parent falin so much if the two of them hadn't been ostracized growing up #but the point of the post is that laios is a lot more emotionally intelligent than his party (or many fans) realizes #he's not just stumbling ass-first into being helpful he is clearly applying a skillset that is direly lacking in his friends #marcille and chilchuck in particular haaaaate uncomfy situations and are under the impression that if smth Feels bad then it Is bad.#and senshi avoids so many situations and feelings because of his trauma that he's been unable to grow past it on his own #this post was particularly inspired by the griffin meat scene. everyone else suggests senshi just avoid his trauma forever #and they're absolutely shocked when laios suggests senshi try to grow and overcome his pain bc. That Sounds Scary. lol #so many of the story's themes revolve around overcoming your own impulses and biases #and laios is uniquely suited to leading that change.#r.i.p. laios/toshiro friendship you guys have so much more in common than you realize

'attempting to pursue this unachievable white ideal of the young academic; maybe leading to gory #representations of mimicry; replacement; taking on someone else's skin; altering the self'#this is primarily key in vincent and the skask; in the actual show iirc they used a jockey mask or smth? but i was thinking about the #delightful way skin is semi-transparent. and so a literal layer of skin alone would be unlikely to provide the whiteness pursued-#the under layer of the original tone would be there. so smth about the failure and unattainable.#additionally; at this point of the show the skin would have been likely yellowing or greying due to post-mortem development? so even more #Not white. from observations (as a kid;comparing skin tones?) white people have a pinker undertone (this might be. a generalisation but.)#here the lighting is yellowish to further push the difference + give the super harsh lighting that if you suspend disbelief has some hair #appear as blonde to further the ambrose-ness.#also the hair- messier on the non-ambrose side; a reference to the whole monologue about the haircuts they got #we bring to you also another episode of <i like drawing fabric folds> in the jacket symbolism! from bottom right to top left; it tracks #vincent throughout act two: the initial long jacket for standing out (nonchalance?) at ardess is removed; the yellow coat is put on- aided #here by ambrose's ghost which is represented by the hand! “Eddie, there’s nothing to celebrate about our marriage ending.” she said gently, taking a step towards Eddie. He stopped and turned towards her.

“Isn’t there? I thought this was what you wanted.” he scoffed.

“And you agreed.” she bit back, tone defensive. “It was all amicable and mutual, and you agreed, Eddie. I thought we were past this.”

“Well, maybe I’m not.” he wasn’t sure why he was starting something right now, a discussion, maybe an argument. It wasn’t necessary, it was stupid, they’d talked it all over multiple times. Still, seeing the papers, it’s just… it hurt. He knew he had no right attacking her right now, but he just- he wanted her to hurt like he was hurting, and he felt awful about it. “Maybe we rushed this.”

“Rushed?” Shannon asked incredulously. “Are you kidding me? If anything, we should’ve gotten divorced sooner. We hadn’t talked in two years.”

“And whose fault was that?” Eddie had the answer ready before she finished talking. And he knew he wasn’t exactly being fair, the circumstances being what they were (...), but at the moment he didn’t care.

#sometimes the sun is a twink and he loves you and he refuses to leave your brain apparently #he's just so fun! what if instead of knitting thneeds he spins water into clouds! and they can be anything bc they can be any shape!#i realize in hindsight i have a tendency to make characters that embody some aspect of nature and may or may not be a deity lol #so maybe the others could make an appearance! sunler playing a lyre or smth singing about them #the stars and how she knows the fate in the cards #the siblings summer wind and rain #the beast and her orchard #but of course ending with how he's totally cooler and more important than everyone else #and it turns out apollo is not only the god of the sun but also of art and music so it really fits him methinks!#i doubt i could ever pull off running an askblog. however #i like the idea of him causing mischief. oh someone wants this thing to happen? let's make it a game!#keep your friends close from epic comes to mind #i don't have much in the way of story but. there are these two scenes in my head that are SO good #i wanna talk about em so badddd but i don't wanna spoil in case i do something with em #but i will say that one of them is a really really fun reference >:D #and the line “RED IS THE NEW GOLD”#but anyways i think an important part of him is that he loves people. he loves these silly little humans running around more than anything.#because all of this ultimately stems from the idea of the sun missing you when you've been inside for a long time #wanting things to get better for you and being there to celebrate the little victories yknow?#my nonsense

i will say the gravity falls renaissance is baffling to me, if its just based off one new book being released in 2024. a lot of other nostalgic childhood media came back into popularity because they got put on a popular streaming service, or got a new entry to the series, but watching gravity falls as an adult made me realize so much of the show relied on offensive jokes aimed at so many different types of people... but unlike other media where i saw people who are also now adults be like "yeah, in retrospect that scene was bad" or whatever, i pretty much haven't seen anyone talk about gravity falls like that. it just seems super weird tumblr's main reactions to media seems to be either trying to cancel something you could criticize bits of, or not mentioning anything about a show where it's hard to miss the endless jokes that didn't age well that you can now understand aren't good

I feel incredibly stupid for not realizing this sooner but I just realized that “all of you” has a double meaning. All of you referring to everyone that the family is the miracle. As well as all of you meaning all of yourself. It’s a smart way of saying that this family as a whole is a miracle but also you as INDIVIDUALS are valued. I did realize the meaning of all of you for mirabel at the end when she says “all of me” but for some reason I never caught onto the double meaning in the actual song. I always interpreted it as all of you as in everyone and then the end part being particularly for mirabel but I’m just now realizing the double meaning was there the whole time💀
