funniest thing abt my major is how we study concepts of GPS and positioning and location and basically knowing where things are but everyone in this major still gets lost lmao. me n this guy got lost on a swiss university campus' forest and got directions from our drunk classmate which made us even more lost (that's on us tho). i had brunch w some upper years and we needed google maps in downtown to direct us to the train (we've lived here all our lives). me n my classmate got lost at the hospital after a field trip n walked outside the entire hospital for 20 minutes bc we initially went the wrong way (should've only been a 3 minute walk). i can't give directions properly when asked and i don't know where anything in this city is without looking it up 😭

god i love when people don’t realise how much “fanon” around sid and nate is actually canon. it’s like heroin to me. also bc it’s like. 90% of the stuff in fics (which is probably why people assume it’s fanon but. oh boy it’s not. there’s shockingly little fanon around these two, mostly because canon is so abundant).

other nate (and sid) facts you might not have realised are canon:

nate is a known advocate for therapy. he’s been seeing a sports therapist since 2017

they wear matching clothing all the fucking time, sid has said publicly that he started wearing white sneakers and updated his wardrobe due to nate’s influence (iirc nate might’ve even bought him his first pair of white sneakers? either that or it was a “he told me i need to so i did” situation). they share a tailor. unfortunately i now have to bring your attention to the fact that since they have an alarming amount of matching clothes that they’ve bought for each other, that means that they in fact have to know each other’s clothing sizes off by heart. they also low-key share clothing btw

their families celebrate canada day together and their dads are best friends. in-law behaviour goes crazy

nate did in fact stalk his way into sid’s heart (got the same personal trainer and agent at age 13; built his house next door in 2017; they’ve been spending every day in the summers together since at least 2015. sid cooks for them daily, or at least did pre-pandemic. sid refuses to use nate’s gym tho so they always use sid’s).

nate used to have a fan twitter account more or less where he rooted for the pens. it was active until 2017.

sid and nate regularly go to summer weddings together as each other’s dates. they have done this since, once again, at least 2015

nate has confirmed that he used to have a poster of sid on his wall as a teenager (he didn’t confirm he used to jerk off to it but frankly. i think that’d be saying the quiet part out loud)

when sid won the cup in 2009 and held the parade in cole harbour, nate stood by the side of the road watching it. he was about to turn 14, he was already working with sid’s trainer and agent, and he was about to start attending shattuck (sid’s junior high). due to old pics we also know that this was RIGHT before nate had his first growth spurt and hit puberty. i’m not saying seeing sid with the cup kickstarted nate’s puberty and gave him his first boner but i’m not NOT saying it

nate dated vanessa morgan of riverdale fame in his rookie year. she’s now good friends with elias petersson from the vancouver canucks (this means nothing but i do think it’s a very funny coincidence).

they go on so many lunch dates in the summer my dude. they go grocery shopping together. like there’s so many pics of them in grocery stores or out having coffee or weird green shakes

oh i almost forgot, they went on a roadtrip through ireland last year. they’ve been on holiday together multiple times over the years though. done some eurotripping together and stuff. in 2015 they spent three months together, three weeks of which were spent living in sid’s santa monica condo together just the two of them

sid has put up a picture of every stanley cup winning captain in his basement since 2008, when the pens lost in the scf to DET. apparently this serves as motivation for him to win the cup. he notoriously does not watch the playoffs after the pens are out

however, he partied so hard at nate’s cup party he actually closed down the party with his dad. nate is the only non-teammate sid’s ever been seen supporting for a cup run (he’s also never been to his teammates’ cup parties afaik so. there’s that)

also they talked on the phone daily and between periods during nate’s cup run. they also canonically have almost weekly phone dates that can run multiple hours. quote nate “i can’t talk to anyone else the way i can talk to him”

they each have pictures of the two of them together framed in each other’s houses

there’s rumours they’re building adjoining houses on neighbouring properties in cape breton next to a golf course bc apparently being neighbours in halifax isn’t enough or something. this one is as yet unconfirmed by reputable sources though

as it causes the company to not be worth much. it's a scandal. daniel is arrested. and then he's killed in jail (if you ask me it was probs bc he cant keep his mouth shut). anyway. for the next two years marcela is bitching to roberto 'um fire her she killed my brother' and roberto was like, tired of her, gave in.

betty is let go but in the press statement it says she stepped down.

marcela with her middle aged princess complex, then is like 'make this punk ass kid i found in a dumpster president pls' and roberto was like 'are you fucking crazy??? no. im making my son pres again even tho he disappoints me all the time'.

mind you, the company hasnt recovered fm the money laundering and im assuming ecomoda's reputation is in the dumps bc they're inconsistent with leadership.

armando, along with mario who im sure gave him investment advice and said 'go for it. everyone flies everyday', invested in some airline. lost a ton of money when the pandemic hit. then the thing with bodegas and the employee severance pay happened.

right, so what im getting at is, ecomoda being in financial dumps is not betty's fault??? she inherited debt. debt that she has no idea how to fix. this isnt even all armando's fault. the financial problems for once didnt start with him. yes, he made them worse. but he didnt start them. it was daniel, followed by marcela. and marcela is paying for it bc she chose her anger over daniel's murder and the embargo that happened 20 years ago--an embargo that betty and armando fixed with an inclusive collection and franchises. franchises that marcela was against bc it interfered with her department.

all the valencias ever do is hold the company back with their righteousness and their classism. and now marcela looks like a fool bc she brought in someone who spied on the employees, could sue her as well for it, and completely destroy the company she says she loves.

I have 2 tell u. Im visiting family in surrey and. Anything longer than a 45 minute drive is like. An overnight trip to them!! Is this normal?? My home country i am on a single-way commute every day for 1.5 hrs!!! I dont!!! Understand!!!

hm ok so i have heard tell that that's not uncommon amongst british people. however i've never met anyone who had that attitude & for most of my adult life my commute has been about an hour door to door so no i would not consider it normal.

brits definitely are pretty intolerant of longer journeys (I've done 6 hour round trips to have lunch w family which a lot of people in my life were horrified by even tho it was literally Fine) but i do think that english people in general & southern english people in particular are not the most representative. i have colleagues who work in rural bits of scotland who pre-pandemic would routinely make 4 hour round trips just to go to meetings + there's bits of Scotland that are hours-long boat rides away from their nearest big town.

I’m slightly obsessed with the people on twitter who think everything is COVID and the other day one of them was like “I don’t understand how mad this new world is” or something like that (I can’t be bothered to find the tweet) because people in a waiting room didn’t cover when they coughed and like… this just exposes OP for not paying attention before 2020! People have literally always been blasé about viruses. All that advice people associate with the early pandemic—cough and sneeze into your elbow, wash your hands for 30 seconds with hot water and soap, don’t touch your face? That’s all been out there for decades. My mother would scold us for touching our face in public or not covering a cough or sneeze correctly. I wasn’t allowed to eat without washing my hands first (my mom went as far as informing my preschool teachers and day camp counselors before I was old enough to reliably do it myself). We used hand sanitizer every time we left the grocery store and then washed our hands when we got home.

I’m not taking a position on what the correct level of caution around viruses is in 2023 because honestly the cost/benefit is different for everyone, I just think it’s fascinating that people who didn’t pay attention before 2020 are acting like behavior that was normal until then is new. I’m not talking about the people who are just saying it’s wrong to go back to pre-2020 behavior, there’s a specific subset who think this is specifically a post-pandemic thing I guess resulting from loss of trust in public health institutions. Idk. But it’s the other side of the “I can’t believe we used to grab bowling balls and then eat pizza” tweets from early in the pandemic like maybe YOU did! I washed my hands tho!

Yass, time for adult!Percy!

I was wondering about life past the current Riordanverse and I really like the idea of gathering different possible jobs for Percy, for fics and for fun.

So here’s a few:

1. Teacher/Counselor

First of all, what kind of teacher? Is he an elementary teacher? Does he teach AP classes in high school? Which subjects? Public school or private school (let’s not forget, Percy spent a good chunk in his life in private schools as the token poor negro kid and was surrounded by awful arrogant rich kids like Nancy and Matt)? Montessori school?? And most importantly: no, I absolutely do not see it.

Percy’s ofc very compassionate and aware of surroundings, so he’d be on high alert with his students but with the current and former state in schools I don’t think he’s willing to get traumatized each and every single day at school.

2. Marine Biologist

Call me basic but since it’s essentially canon, Imma stick beside him (tbh I can’t remember anything past PJO lol). But marine biology is such an interesting and diverse field?? Like c’mon now!

Yes, it’s a lot more chemistry and math and physics than one might think but the possibilities? And the benefits with his powers? Let Percy get a minor in psychology and study animal behavior by actually interviewing them, IT’S A GENIUS MOVE IF YOU GET THE VISION!

3. Marketing Manager

Hehe. My field of study. Am I biased? Of course I am! Was this part of my fic Oh. It’s Them Again? Yessss, mama!

Again. Such an interesting field with many possibilities! And he’d get more than just a good check in NYC if he switches positions enough! Like… is Percy a digital marketing manager? How much does he hate Google, Meta, Amazon and co.? Is he working in strengthening brand awareness and if so, how? Is he forced to work in newsletter/email marketing? Is he a sales machine and constantly on the road? Or is he a key account manager and simply focuses on a handful of important clients?

Is he, as a disgruntled millennial, forced to work with spoiled gen z influencers he hates and has to figure out the TikTok algorithm like a grandpa on the sofa whilst unhelpful Annabeth is laughing at him (shut up Annabeth, we all know you use IG reels and occasionally YT shorts at best!!)? Does he accidentally go viral and HATES everyone calling him daddy in the comments??

Oh, the possibilities.

4. Firefighter/Paramedic

Hell yes. I saw someone else posting about this ages ago (if you can remember, feel free to @!). But this is so interesting. If you want to somewhat stick to canon and let Percy use his powers, this could be an option.

I see it, helping and saving people that way could be an option. Still, also more on the traumatizing side but I actually think this is more interesting than a teacher. And oh, the possibilities in stories are endless! Saving people and pets from burning houses. Coordinating shifts in the station, being a first responder… oof.

That said…

5. Doctor

Oof, I should really work on The Wedding Dance in the future even tho it’s hella minor plot point…

Hospital doc? Owning his own practice doc? Doing 1 first and 2 next? What type of doctor is he? Simply an internist? A gastroenterologist? Pediatrician (could be traumatizing)? A surgeon to let out his god complex? Okay, let’s note down surgeon for Annabeth… a neurologist? Endless opportunities. Where’s the PJO x Grey’s Anatomy fic we all need??

6. Hotelier

Whilst the service industry is incredibly fucked (pre- as well as post-Pandemic), this is also interesting. Let Percy and Sally own a bed and breakfast. What does it look like? How many rooms are there? How much do they hate booking.com and AirBnB for taking a good chunk of commission?

Where’s the hotel located? In Montauk? In Manhattan? In Greece?? What are the roles? Does Sally do the cooking and house keeping whilst Percy does repairs and is the receptionist/clerk?

Who are the guests?? You decide!

7. Chef/Baker

Ahhh… Chef!Percy my beloved, you will always be welcomed. So. Much. Stuff. To. Think. About. And yes, this will actually be relevant for one of my fics, IFYKY. Head chef, deputy chef, junior chef… did Percy go the Institute of Culinary Education? Did he go to Italy or France for a few years to hone his craft? Or did he purposefully say f Europe, let’s head somewhere else? What is his specialty? How much sleep does he get per week?

Also I’m never letting go of Baker!Percy and Sally who own their sweet cupcake shop and sell all kinds of sugary shit!

8. Stay at Home Dad

My fave trope, don’t get it twisted! While I think Annabeth and Percy realistically have one kid max plus two or three pets, I love the idea of Career and Business Woman!Annabeth and SAHD Percy who’s trying to make her life as easy as possible whilst tending the baby, trying to clothe the toddler and reminding their elementary school aged kid to pack their lunch.

A chaotic, yet amazing and rewarding life (which is still stressful! Just a different kind of stressful!)

What do you think? Agreements, disagreements? Anyone who’s interested/in school for/already working in any of these fields? Do you think it’s unrealistic? Is it realistic?

Fucked up that summer where I'm at is just called fire season. Once on a clear sunny day I walked out of an Abby's pizzeria and it was literally raining ash from the sky. People barely blinked an eye they just covered their mouths and retrieved their masks from the car (Pre Covid pandemic). When Covid happened I was like "Okay so it's just like fire season but all the time now" because we walked around in the summer for years on and off like that. Last year wasn't so bad tho so here's to hoping that things are good this year.

What’s her deal tho?

She didn’t show up to the premiere of her own movie. The movie that was most positioned to launch her as a potential critic/indie darling. The movie that showed up at least a few times during awards season that she could have milked to get new projects and get her name out for directors/producers etc.

She didn’t promote her own show. The show that built up her fan base and would be able to get her to the front of the line with other Netflix projects.

She just seems to be chilling. Following Chris around the country/world and being there at his beck and call.

It’s so contradictory to that one interview Chris gave post Jenny break up and pre-pandemic where he talks about how he wants someone to be their own person and he doesn’t really like it when his partner only likes what he likes or does what he does. Like he likes a woman who is independent so they can do their own thing something about not wanting to be suffocated or something.

So was that a lie?

Because...she doesn’t have her own thing going on at all. She just seems to jump up and be available for him whenever he wants and seemingly do whatever he wants to do.

Have we seen anything about casting news for her? Or any new exciting things for her? Just that Miu Miu thing at Paris Fashion Week.

Does she like not want anything? Or to do anything? Or I dunno where’s her personality? Ya know? All of what we’ve seen is all from Chris’s lens and all from what Chris is doing or taking her along to do or whatever.

Who even is she? At least with past relationships we knew who the partner was inside and outside of their relationship with Chris. Alba just is like there as Chris’ girlfriend and then that’s the end of the story. Who even is she?

So many good questions, unfortunately no good answers. What is she other than a blank canvas that speaks five languages and is pliable to chin doodles? I personally want more out of life than that, but perhaps she does not.

Also, I think we should really look at how the previous answers of "not liking to be enveloped" in a relationship, and "someone who has her own thing" can also seem, if you squint, like saying "I want someone who I can send away when I just don't want to bother with them anymore, but they will then run back when I call again." It's a truly self-centered way in which to look at others, as only wanting them around when it's a good time for you and you're in the mood. Not really how a fully functioning, non-toxic relationship works.
