I’ve been using a pic of me presenting femme as my FB profile pic for less than two weeks, and nerdy guys have already reverted back into misogynistic assholes who have no respect for my opinions. Even though I’ve been into nerd shit for nearly 30 years. Literally.
I was very lucky to be born in 1990 cause I got to experience the tail end of Turtlemania which lasted until the mid-90s, I think. Turtlemania started in the 1980s and was basically when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was just trending hugely. For years. On top of that the 90s was also a pretty good era for nerd media in general.

So the 1990 Ninja Turtles movie has always been one of my CBMs since I was like 5 years old and all of that other stuff was just like bonuses. A lot of anime also got popular, but I kinda missed Sailor Moon cause we didn’t have cable all the time. Our shit was constantly getting turned off because of my mom’s gambling addiction.
And, yeah, I know I’m oversharing because I feel insecure.
Its just such bullshit. I’ve been reading and collecting comics and graphic novels since 2005 — that’s 18 years. Eighteen motherfucking years, and I can basically recite the entire history of Nintendo and I get laughed at and shit on because I’m not a guy.
And like I knew this coming, but it still feels like a huge kick in the nuts.

Late 1990, Winter advert from Tesco Supermarket in the UK, advertising their range of Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles merchandise, as ‘Turtlemania’ was at its peak on shopping aisles.
I remember the Power Game, seemed to go on forever. The video ‘How It All Began’ wasn’t actually the 5 part pilot, but the clip show sequences from a season 3 episode where Splinter had amnesia, spliced in with the early episodes of season 2. Also the L.C.D game was initially difficult to work out, perhaps more on account of the vague graphics clashing with the background.
Any other memories for anyone, from any of these Turtle shopping treasures?

Given the state of how the comics were by the time we started getting stuff like "Many Hands", and knowing how long it is till we even get to Flynn/Yardley... How the hell did the comics even survive for that long? Because boy, do things stay absolutely DIRE for years.
Well to begin with, this was the pre- Sonic 06 era, and in this particular time the franchise was riding a new super high thanks to Sonic Adventure, one that would continue with the advent of Sonic Adventure 2, and while Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog would chip away at that good will, Sonic was still firmly in its resurgence phase. 
 That, and for a lot of us? It had Sonic, and that was all it needed. I was exactly the kind of kid who bought stuff purely because it had Sonic, and little idea of what 'quality' was. I was too young and too inexperienced in literary tropes to really be able to understand just HOW bad it all really was, so I just kept eating it up. Do NOT underestimate just how much of that was tied directly into the fortunes of the Sonic franchise on the whole. 
 To use another fandom I was in as a kid as an example... .growing up, I was super into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the original cartoon.

 I grew up with TMNT, had all the toys and all the videos and all the anything I could get my hands on, including some issues of the Archie book. Turtlemania came and went during the 90s, and in the latter part of that decade the Turtles made a final, desperate grasp at relevancy via a Live Action Series called 'The Next Mutation'.

This series was infamous for being terrible on sooo many levels, and for violating one of the core tenents of the TMNT franchise by adding a fifth, female turtle. My wee self's response to this series though?
 "COOL! ANOTHER TURTLE! NINJA TURTLES IS AWESOME!"
 In short? I didn't care, because Turtles, and that pretty much describes my own relationship with the Sonic books.
 I won't say it was universal, but I wouldn't underestimate how much of it was simply due to the fact that a lot of us were kids who liked Sonic, and those books had Sonic in them. Fandom is a powerful thing, and when combined with an inability to properly discern quality it can lend a lot of life to things that might have died ignoble deaths elsewhere.

Well now that’s an interesting question. I’ll constrain myself to cartoons that were made in the 80s versus those that were shown ad nauseum in the 80s that I kinda loved (sorry Spider-Man ‘67). Obviously excluding The Mighty Orbots which I assume spawned this question.
Belle & Sebastian
Long before they were a hipster band the original story by Cécile Aubrywas brought to the small screenthrough the anime lens of TOHO animation,Keiji Hayakawa, as a kid I often got it confused with…
Heidi: Girl of the Alps
Again a Japanese produced European story brought to Canada via the Netherlands, I believe Hayao Miyazaki was involved with this one, shown on TVO in my formative years. This may explain my future love for Lupin and Urusei Yatsura.
Astro Boy
The 1980s Astro Boy (Mighty Atom) was legendary for many reasons, mainly because it looked amazing compared to most contemporary shows and also because it had a sort of quaint perspective to it (it was re-telling many of the 1960s plots) it was a very upbeat show but also still very cool. As Marty McFly noted all the best stuff comes from Japan and Astro Boy was one of those things.
He-Man
If you were a boy in the 80s this was absolutely a show you would watch - it was a force to be reckoned with - nearly unbelievable that they could mess up the move so badly, I blame the movie for destroying the series. Speaking of movies that destroyed your childhood…
Transformers
Transformers was absolutely massive in 1983/4 like you can’t comprehend how big it was, I kinda get Turtlemania that happened late in the 80s but man Transformers was the shit. It had a following before it had a cartoon, that’s sayin’ something for those days

The Raccoons
Canada struggled for many many years with an identity crisis mainly purported by Ottawa but one of the cartoons that was quintessentially Canadian but didn’t completely reek of the NFB was The Raccoons, On CBC every Sunday before The Magical World of Disney was a little show about a messy, hockey jersey wearing trashbear named Bert (and his friends)
Inspector Gadget
Inspector Gadget was a very trippy show when I think back on it, I mean nobody really questioned his gadgets or his goofy attitude. I wouldn’t understand the references to The Pink Panther or even know who Don Adams was (Get Smart) until much later in life. It was just a constant on Canadian TV especially the first season. Penny who was voiced by the incomparable Cree Summer was the brains behind the decidedly bumbling man. Dr. Claw was one of the most iconic villains ever but not enough is said about the hilarious henchmen “you could take the north      fork      road……. OR you could take the      south          fork         road…) augh good times!
Dennis the Menace
Dennis the Menace was one of those weird cartoons that was absolutely based on an American comic strip, but produced in Japan with an almost certainly European dub… I don’t remember much from that show other than watching it at every opportunity and being somewhat attracted to Alice Mitchell… I can’t explain it and I havne’t seen it on DVD ever after so … I dunno what i would think about it today. I vividly remember the intro sequence though.
Of course the 80s rolled on and things got kinda bleak for a while occasionally they would brighten up for short periods with the odd Garfield special (then later its own series) but then in 1987 the clouds parted and we were graced with…
Mighty Mouse the New Adventures
Now you can absolutely judge the likes of Ralph Bakshi and John K through the lens of history all you want but FINALLY a GOOD cartoon surfaced from the ashes of 80s garbage and was actually FUNNY??? Like honest to god your whole family would laugh at this shit hilarious?? I know plenty of people who gave this show a wide berth but goddamn it was hilarious in 1987 and it still holds up. You think Tiny Toons or Animaniacs was edgy for its time you have no idea. Heck there’s an episode where they take a dump on the crap animation that was bopping around at the same time.
And like everything else good it was cancelled for being too awesome (won’t talk about Pee-Wee’s Playhouse it wasn’t animated but it was around at the same time and given the boot for nonsensical reasons)
The 80s kinda wound down a bit, falling back into the same ol’ formulaic pablum. At this point the only real show was…

The Super Mario Brothers Super Show
I used to get up at 6 AM to watch this shit and man it was super worth it, my sister would sneak into my room and we’d watch the show together on the ol’ rabbit ears at the lowest volume the dial would permit. Friday’s were special because that was Legend of Zelda day and despite not having played Zelda yet I totally fell in love with Link, Zelda, Sprite, Ganon and the rest, what a world it was back then. We didn’t get a NES until 1989 and man what a life changer that was. So many good times… eventually it lead into Captain N but that was the 90s. But what else was cookin’ at the time? Beetlejuice
I had seen the cable edit of Beetejuice on TV so I knew sorta what I was in for but the cartoon was just… really charming and fun. The relationship the characters had together was unforgettable and I still look back at that show with a lot of nostalgia.
Anyway this post is getting long and I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few things I absolutely loved (Wind in the Willows? The Real Ghostbusters? TMNT?) but I should stop before I fall into a coma or something. I highly recommend all these shows TBH

okay so, quick rundown for those who both A) are immune to spoilers B) also do not know Venus or Jennika’s origins-- bulletpoint time~!
So Venus de Milo, the “girl turtle”, the “fifth turtle” (not counting April’s extremely brief stint as a white-bandana’d turtle in the Archie comics run) was introduced in 1997′s Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation
An episode of “The Toys That Made Us” touched upon Venus’ creation so idk it’ll cover what I won’t deign to acknowledge.
her backtory is interesting (just her show was a trashfire /affectionate)
Master Splinter’s frolicking around in the dreamscape where all the cool enlightened old people hang out away from teenagers, right?
but oh no! dragon lord, a bad dude with a widow’s peak to rival Vegeta Dragonball’s widow’s peak; is there too! stomping around, ruining shit!
Splinter’s dreamscape buddy Chung I warns Splinter to stay out of the dreamscape ‘cuz Dragon Lord’s around
And like in true old people fashion, just ignores his friend’s admonition and tries to investigate himself
bad choice, womp womp
Splinter gets trussed up and rendered “stuck” in the dreamscape
cue the catalyst for Venus to make the 10+ flight from China to the U.S
don’t worry about what the boys were doing, just literal surfing in sewer grey water, breaking their little turtle skulls on cinderblocks, and picking fights in warehouses with Foot clan goons
tl;dr Venus still has Sixth Ranger mode on, so naturally she whoops all of their asses in the dark, ties them up (like how some of y’all enjoy writing Leo does huhu nudgenudge winkwink)

and then, y’know, it’s still the 90s and children’s television so blah blah the usual “oH My gOd a GiRL tURTle???/?? AWoooOOogaaa ga ga ga” 
it’s.... I mean, i’m 38 so it no longer strikes me as bad as just really fucking embarrassing... for them. to be written saying. fuck, at least they didn’t make her bandana color pink.
so fast forward to Venus teaching them to dreamwalk so they can go rescue Splinter from Dragon Lord’s clutches in the dreamscape.
unfortunately, Dragon Lord offscreen murders Chung I so Venus is narratively anchorless post-rescue, so she’s invited to stay with them. thus ensues wacky hijinks with their new pal, Venus Boom Boom de Milo.
I glossed over the urge to write a cumulative review of Next Mutation. Just, take my word as the target demographic of the show during the last gasps of 90s Turtlemania that TNM was a trashfire overall but... y’know... if you ever needed a palette cleanser after some grimdark or angsty TMNT content, give TNM a whirl. The slapstick was intentional and The Point in the show. Venus’ circumstances for coming was as serious as it would get.
... Also, yes, they made them not related in TNM, preteen snackugaki didn’t clock why because I watched a lot of wuxia as a kid so brotherhood is a term beyond blood ties to me (and if I’m being honest, martial brotherhood is fkkn metal) and later I heard tell that it was to lure more girls into the franchise with both a girl turtle and romance options. which idk whatevs man. 
I also have to clear that, actually no, Donatello and Venus did not fight EVERY episode. Donatello, despite sprinkling a little too much barely disguised snobbery, did defer to Venus’ expertise in “the supernatural” when the situation called for it, and Venus would commend Donnie on his scientific ingenuity. They even teamed up skillsets to create surveillance drones! She essentially casted Calm Emotions on him while he tried to hack the controls of the Astro Megaship back for the In Space Rangers. They breached the divide between STEM and Humanities! They only had one “real fight" near the end of the season-- because Donnie was playing his containment breach elevator mid trash copyright strike immune proto-EDM too loud while she was trying to meditate. and that’s just being bad roommates tbh.
...christ I know it’s gonna come up too, but also NO, there was not constant advances made toward Venus during the show. At most was Mikey pulling his ol’ “I work out every day~!” schtick for like 2 episodes of the 5 spent to introduce Venus. And then after? A shipper’s desert, you’d have to dig and peer behind like 8 curtains for any viable fodder. 
...OKAY NOW FOR JENNIKA’S ORIGINS: Jennika is an IDW character specifically so, naturally why she isn’t in (or would’ve been, AHEM) a lot of iterations yet (or at all, COUGH) (but to continue in honesty there’s a lot of legal tape to cut through since Jennika is IDW’s while TMNT overall is Nick’s) Introduced as a Foot Assassin, her place in the Foot Clan shifts when Splinter takes over from Shredder (Saki), eventually she forms actual bonds with both the turtles and Splinter to where it’s implied she also saw him as an important figure to her if not an outright surrogate father figure. And because TMNT is mess and drama the other 50% of the time, Karai takes over the Foot from Splinter and shenanigans compounded by Karai’s then-current machinations for the Foot-- results in Jennika getting shanked in the stomach by Karai during a clandestine meeting to resolve clan rivalry. She’s losing blood fast, Donnie works to save her and it’s Leo who volunteers for blood transfusion to keep her stable mid-transit. 
SURPRISE!
Leo’s blood mutates Jennika into a mutant turtle. And then Casey ghosts/dumps her. My poor daughter. She has a real rough time of it before fully integrating with the boys. Raph falls in with Old Hob, gets hoodwinked, and now they live in Mutant Town. Jennika slowly finds herself again, as a mutant turtle, a Splinter clan ninja, a girlfriend, a guitarist in a band she started, a sister in a found family, and a constable to a very little town.
okay! we’re all marginally informed about my two wonderfull daughters, Venus and Jennika~!
so if I can indulge further, I’m going to use my cognizance and make it everyone’s problem because I have beem quietly foaming with ideas for bg lore for tactical!J&V, more bullet points!
ok so, donathan mentioned a bit about their tac! Leo and Donnie being the snipers, Mikey and Raph spotting for them while also being demolitions and heavy ordinance specialists respectively
I would think, then for Vee and Jen, they’d be classified as close quarters combat specialists, complicated extraction? compromised area? call them to clean up and clear out~
give or take “magic” being a thing used in donathan’s AU, or anyone’s AU of this AU, Vee would probably be a close combat specialist along with Jen.
Vee, I feel, would, barring a ...”tactical fan”, (even though in TNM it was just her fists and her little wizard components but her toy came with a fan so.) probably use batons, Jen in lieu of her tekagi-shuko would... most likely use tactical karambit. not that large of a leap really.
for my personal lulz, Vee and Jen are... accurate, height-wise. Raph gets to be the biggest brother since alligator snapping turtles are, in fact, the largest motherfucking freshwater turtles on the north american continent. no getting around it.
my Vee in all Rise AUs is a softshell since the messy hanzi used to write her first given name, Mei Pieh Chi (美鱉气) has the hanzi that’s most commonly translated as softshell turtle (鱉). eh ‘di wow talaga
snacku what do you mean ‘accurate’???? tl;dr female turtles are usually the larger ones in most species.
and listen, I love and I mean LOVE, how some of y’all have written the tac!boys, mwah; but god I’m a professional turtle bully. I need to see them get dunked on. for nutritional value. and if it comes to it, I will provide that food for myself. brb laughing at eventually drawing Venus just offhandedly tossing Donnie into the air to skeet shoot his ass for fun brings me the greatest joy.
they absolutely dote on Mikey, as is the natural order of things. 
and even tho I stated TNM Donnie and Venus got along in the show, and depending on the existence of magic in this AU; I just really love dichotomous rivalries (in as much “science” and “magic” exist as a dichotomy, much less as “diametrically oppose” fields-- just, opposites man. i’m a simple girl with simple trope needs)
Vee’s arms (and legs) are absolutely covered in burns, scars, and missing flesh divots, just as close to swiss cheese limbs as you can be

Vee was actually pretty calm and rational in TNM... but for this AU, she can be a little unhinged, as a well-deserved treat. (and ‘cuz that specific anime unhinged facial expression is fun as fuck to draw, which is my treat)

ololololollollolooll— the peepaw multiverse tried to infect me with a sad, embattled f!Leo but my body ended up forcing it to mutate because while I love a good soul-crushing angst premise, I’m a comedy and rule of cool girl at heart. and like... war feels like constant sorrow, grief, unending violence and fighting but... it isn’t, there’s lulls and quiet moments and your siblings don’t stop being siblings even then, especially then
and to clarify, all that weird shit the kids might have heard about Next Mutation, love triangles, Donnie and Venus fighting etc. take it from me, someone who was the target tv demographic when it was first airing, it wasn’t that bad. it was bad because it was just really bad children’s television during 90s Turtlemania. Just real corny shit (affectionate). Fighting dragons with a widow’s peak to rival Vegeta’s, vampires who look like if Betty Page and Prince Adam made a baby in the lycra section of Hustler Hollywood, just terrible fun with 90s children’s tv production values.
however when I rewatched the show as an adult (after finding my soul when it cringed out of my body and across 293740293751 dimensions), one of my takeaways was Donnie and Vee absolutely were BFFs, it’s fun it’s silly and goddamnit I am a little tired of tech vs magic, why not tech and magic? a bitch loves a good team up with unlikely partners is what I’m saying. IDW Donnie and Venus shaping up to look like best buddies too, maybe, hopefully, wishing. but if any iteration was gonna have the besties/worsties dynamic, i’d feel like it’d be Rise.

i need you all to understand that Donnie is not running around naked in my future au, it’s just I started sketching before I realized I’d have to design a future!Donnie.

is this actually new ramblings for the iteration or like one new lore bit and just a rerererererehashing of lore i sprinkled across the other posts.
first though, with my sorta-outsider-not-active-participant-in-fandom history I realized "au" isn't the proper term for what I've been doing, the more suitable term is "iteration".
and we're gonna sit with the fact that even someone at my old-ass age recognized my previous understanding of a term was, for all intents and purposes, not entirely correct and that I acknowledged it, rectified when I could, and that's it, it can be that easy.

okay back to the bullshit.
so my Mondo was introduced in the Archie run, a funky guy with a metal band called Merciless Slaughter, dressed like a punk Hulk, all around good peoples, hung out with the Mutanimals.
His design cobbling isn't too deep, I don't think. Just thought it'd be more rad if he looked more like a guy who fronts a band called Merciless Slaughter while remaining the same ol' Mondo inside, post mutation.
Kept some of his original color palette around in his hat, his pants, his NYHC logo (links) knockoff, and his little dyed leather cord bracelets.
the letters for the logo are for, Skate or Die (across), and Merciless Slaughter (down)
hmm still waffling on if I'm more tickled by him being taller than Mikey or the same height (5'4")

and now for the rererererehash rambling because none of this design progression is coming out linear for me. so super quick, am an original 90s turtlemania survivor, Rise brought me back, gorged Rise then Bay then 2007 movie then rererererewatching of Next Mutation and the 90s trilogy for fun then hacking my way back through the Archie and Mirage runs then caught up with IDW and then just... slogging through 2003 and 2012 which honestly I feel like I got the gists of through gif sets alone.
one hand I can see why old fans (90s turtlemania) didn't seem to like the Rise designs, ours really were just the same li'l green dude but in different colors and hit sticks looks-wise. But here comes Rise with all the character design classics: different shapes! different sizes! exaggeration! and that's on top of all the nudges and twists made to the usual lore; Raphael is now the oldest, Leo and Donnie are now twins, they're different species of turtles, they're tools for war, brand new antagonists etc.
idk, to me when I was watching that shit, it was fun and refreshing so... ionno, built different cope maybe to the other oldheads pissing their pantaloons still ig whatevs
what tickles me most, personally, is the utter fuckton of Rise AUs, and a few Rise-driven iterations, and also some of the other non canon media iterations. so tickled that I got hit by the makeaniterationigitis itllbefunoccocal virus too. UnU (i'm kidding, i'm having so much fucking fun) just I'm addressing the flowers I wanna give to the kids who took Rise's take on tmnt and just RAN with the "different turtle species" from full out coloring their turtles the same as the species they picked to mimicking Rise's design language with different markings.
God, the markings thing just really nestled into my heart, it's such a simple thing and yet it took Rise to just try it, not even a lot, just a little for flavorrrrr. It's just enjoyable as fuck to me tbh and I'm sharpening my teeth when I revisit my coloring choices for the 8th time... fuck where was I?
right, mine are mistakes. wrongright place at the wrongright time, mutagen was there and now they can swing swords around and eat pizza.
someone(s) was high tailing it outta a TGRI lab with some mutagen barrels, driving recklessly while a bunch of eco-vigilantes had broken out of a pet shop that was the face of a black market pet trade/medicine/exotic food racket of endangered species. hence where their bit of human pre-mutagenic contact comes from (the strike team of people who freed them from their cages because all of them were endangered species & destined for a tank, a cutting board or a pill box); including a sea turtle Venus, Leatherhead, Tokka, Rahzar, Man-Ray some others etc etc. Jennika keeping her origin because it was dope as fuck. splinter was just there watching this symphony of human fuckery happen and decided to adopt some kids with no one asking (it was tang shen's onryo that is rooted in Splinter's mind that was asking, shh)
and ever since it clicked when I was gathering ref shots, ✨sea turtle Venus just makes sense✨ to me, it's taken my brain stem and rung it like a bell for new year's nonstop and i am not mad
... fuck, I am but also am not looking forward to when I start delving into ninjutsu, ninpo, Venus' whole schtick and how the supernatural fits into this world that I definitely don't need to be fleshing out this much just to draw them chilling on April's couch.

Donnie didn’t like.... have this many fans out here, at least not as much as my then preteen brain remembers-- it was mostly Leo’re Raph I saw. like i AM accounting for hanging out here, on tumblr, for my tmnt content, and the iterations that are especially popular with turtles just straight up made more blorbable than others here but like ......hmm there’s too many disparate thoughts I’mma bullet point instead
like hhhh there’s so much I’m gonna/gotta gloss over ‘cuz I’m still pretending this is my original art blog and not the tmnt fanart blog I’m slowly mutating into
anyway, endlessly hilarious to me Donnie went from this kinda dweeby mechanical engineer gear head character to this dweeby (affectionate) computer science menace
that he (and his brothers) used to be max 5′, and now he’s just Taller than his brothers
for me, originally all of them would’ve been able to at least survive alone but now, as goods and services become more accessible via internet now it’s like for fanon Donnie’s become utterly indispensable to the survival of his family and that makes me kinda sad in a way I’m not even gonna try to unravel why
i do not have a whiteboard big enough or the dry eraser markers that work on the first try to draw a Pepe Silvia-level theory board on the jumps in technology, how it’s affected public perception, the whole Nerds R Cool phenomenon and how it’s affected/will affect Donatello’s characterization/audience reception in future iterations
with electronic waste being what it’s become, fast fashion waste too... I am so curious how Donnie’s (and the rest of them) gonna look like in designs/redesigns
(still have a hard time bay!Donnie didn’t, like, cobble together a 3D printer or even fix an industrial textile machine but like I get it, their look was very Scávenge S/S 2016)
tl;dr tech advancements have been silly strong and since 2016 Donnie’s just out here with personal tech like 20 years ahead instead of recycled junk to keep contemporarily functional lolololololololol

Bandai (Ban) Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles Information Cards
Between 1990-1991, Turtles merchandise was everywhere, but within a couple of years it was gone, even though the series & to some degree the Archie comic would last till 1996.
TMNT probably came closest to its 90's popularity with the launch of its 3rd cartoon series in 2012. Even now in 2021, TMNT still has a presence & a marketable brand, which is a combination of been familiar to several generations, but ultimately there's only one generation at a time, that is going to keep them in the toy aisle (or should anyway). Why I think they've maintained their popularity longer with the younger generation this time around, is that it didn't blow up as big & it didn't get pushed heavier than every other youth pop culture phenomenon going, probably because now TMNT has had more TV & movie merchandise franchises to compete with, so it's not gotten overexposed to the point people got sick of it early.
Though even with that & a more sociable acceptance to be into geek chic culture of comics & fantasy than in the 90's, I don't think even today they have Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles Information Card Collectables? Granted, this partly due to the internet, where if kids wanted to read profiles on characters from their favourite show, they’d be an official website. But still as far as merchandise goes, it’s somewhat reaching, with 4 sets of 4 cards for £1.99 each.

TMHT Holiday Special 1992. May 1992
While the summer of 1991 saw Fleetway publish a separate Book Special, Holiday Comic & 4 new Poster Mags, by the following year the Turtles franchise popularity declined to the point only a Holiday Special was published.
But even with less of a workload, Fleetway opted to cram the special with recycled content, perhaps getting as disinterested in the Turtles, as many 90's youths were becoming, or just not optimistic of strong sales to justify, filling this comic with fresh content.
1990 Adventures comic "Help! Where's The Pizza" illustrated by Sandy James is reprinted, split into 2 parts near the end of the comic. While not a bad story, it have been better suited republished in a comic special of old stories, newer readers will have missed the 1st time.
Elsewhere old illustrations are constantly been recycled.
Amongst the new stuff, 1st story "Unidentified Flying Pizza" New York is attacked by a flying saucer that looks like a pizza, piloted by Bebop & Rocksteady. Why? There's no logical reason Krang & Shredder, would create something weaponised that looks like the Turtles favourite food. There's an air attack between the mutants & Turtles, with the Turtle glider, eventually trapping them in a net.
The 2nd "Power To The Geeks". With the Techndrome, almost out of power, its driven beneath the New York Central Power Station. The bad guys proceed to drain New York of power to charge the Techndrome back up. With the city in a black out, the Turtles follow their tracks & eventually reverse the process.
3rd original story "Tax Attack" is the token worded story, with just a few pictures by James. The writers either don't understand how tax laws are passed, or lazily disregard their young readers understanding. Basically Krang & Shredder have - by force - taken over the New York Tax Department & are making extreme demands for tax payments. Had they maybe made more subtle demands, the Turtles probably wouldn't have noticed & gone after them.

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles Knitting Book (1990) by Joy Gammon. Published by Hippo Books.
Yes I did get a knitted Michaelangelo wrapped up in Christmas paper in 1990, which my Mam had spent her free time secretly knitting, while also doing what I believe was the Raphael jumper for my little sister.
I'm not sure if parents these days would put the time & effort into making something like this for their children. Though would kids today want a knitted jumper over a hoodie?
This book was published in 1990, shrewdly jumping on the turtlemania bandwagon, not long after it had gathered speed just in time for parents to learn & follow the instructions. As well as individual designed jumpers for all four Turtles & Master Splinter, there was a logo design jumper, a hat & scarf design combo & designs for individual pillows.
This book must have sold well as they're not too hard to find nearly 30 years later on eBay. However its not the book the kids would have wanted, but their own Turtles knitwear, so i do wonder how many unfinished knitted Turtles jumpers there were by struggling parents come Christmas morning in 1990?

Those in the UK who followed Turtles in the early 90's will remember that outside of the cartoon, movies & Archie comics there didn't seem to be a lot of love for Michelangelo's nunchakus. Outside a few early comic book covers they completely disappeared in all promotional material, non-toy merchandise & other printed fictional formats.
At the time I thought artists considered the nunchakus - because they weren't a weapon in solid form - to be too silly or awkward to illustrate, so instead we got Mikey either fighting bare handed, holding a pizza or occasionally a bo staff. In hindsight, I wondered that if they never liked the nunchakus, just give him a different weapon, like kendo sticks.
But it turns out nunchakus were illegal in Britain at the time, stemming from the martial arts craze of the 70's where they were often seen with Bruce Lee. While the least lethal of all four Turtles weapons, the law still hadn't been lifted, so after Turtles became popular the censoring of Mikeys weapons kicked in. Even the movies & cartoon would be influenced by the UK ban, with later episodes of the show having Mikey use a grappling hook, particularly in the title intro, while the 3rd movies plot conveniently had Mikey absent for the first two big fight scenes.
By the time the 2003 cartoon reboot came around the nunchakus ban & the hesitance to have them referred to as Ninja's instead of Hero's had changed.
