Don't kknow if this has been asked before, but in terms of chronology does the eternal library take place later in history than their majesties pleasure and ink and intrigue or before?
Hi! Great question!
The Eternal Library takes place directly after Ink and Intrigue. At the end of Ink, La'rast is about to leave to venture off to Minare, and the opening scene of The Eternal Library shows La'rast meeting with Minare's king.
Their Majesties' Pleasure takes place first chronologically, then Ink and Intrigue and The Eternal Library, though all of these games can be played in any order without major spoilers. Each MC is different, so they're really standalone games set in the same world.
Thanks for the ask!

I think I'm too far gone in this fandom. If you asked me who my favourite character was back when I only knew about the movie, I'd probably say Rapunzel or Pascal. Now if you ask me the same question I'll say the eternal library.

The Chrissy wake up meme as Hugo when Varian gets possessed. (I'm probably not the first person to think of this.)

What's your favorite section in the library?
The books! Always the books. There are so many, I just cannot express the sheer quantity of books there are. While the Library does have some lovely other stuff in it- microfiche, video tapes, cds- none of them go back anywhere near as far as the books do. There is so much history in them! And I just love when you open a really old book and realize, you are the first person to touch this in a hundred years. You. It makes you really feel like part of history!
…and they smell really nice.

19 January, 1924 Letters to Véra by Vladimir Nabokov
“I love you. Infinitely and inexpressibly. I’ve woken up in the middle of the night and here I am writing this. My love, my happiness.”

I was going to leave a comment but then I wrote a whole post about how this relates to my new WIP, The Eternal Library, so here are my thoughts: 😇 (And this is not a comment about the reader who sent the ask, because that was super polite and valid feedback. This is just me reading Fir's reply and rambling.) I love that you turned a novella into an IF and wrote it the way you wanted to. I'm doing something similar with The Eternal Library, though the ending isn't written yet as the game will span the planned novel series I had.
There are some preset elements in this project and a specific story I want to tell. There's also a ton of interactive opportunities in the romances, intrigue, and world influence. Some of it will be more linear, other parts will not, and many branches will weave the story into a tapestry that is the art of interactive fiction.
For the Eternal Library, I'm pulling from a completed manuscript I have and the concepts I came up with for a planned sequel. So while there's a lot of material to work with for the first part of the game, the second part will be drafted anew from a sketchy plan that will become clearer and more complicated as I go, I'm sure.
There will be many endings, lots of them dramatic, but all will include a guaranteed Happily Ever After for the MC and many of the other characters. It's a romance, I get to write my HEAs. 💃
Personally, I also don't always enjoy bad endings, though I admit they're certainly memorable.
Dramatic endings can be impactful, but I also think they can be done without major character deaths or massive heartbreak, or me never being able to forgive SJM for the ending of KoA or making me sob through that entire f-ing book. No. I never got over it. Rawr.
Anyway, each story calls for something different. My mission as an author right now is to write the story I want as best I can and enjoy the ride. Not every story or game is for every reader, and that's okay! That's as it should be. I DNF things all the time. 😆 (Again, this isn't about the person who commented, because they played the game and enjoyed it. Yay!)
I simply hope people who like the way I mix fantasy, romance, adventure, intrigue, rebellion, magic, Fae, ancient lore, and maybe a little bit of vengeance will find my games and enjoy them.
Write your heart and you can't go wrong. ❤️
Hi, I played the entirety of Viatica a few hours ago, I enjoyed it, but I have one small gripe with the ending. It feels like it wasn't really earned, like no matter which choices I could've picked, I didn't work for it. It's entirely linear, like no one could've died during the rebellion ending.
Hello, thanks for giving my story a try. 😊
That’s completely valid and I hear you. There’s 2 big reasons for that. One, I don’t like reading bad endings, and I REALLY don’t like writing them. 😅 I don’t like major character death (as in MCs and ROs). I understand many people want that in their stories, and while I can appreciate a well-written tragic scene, I don’t enjoy writing one myself. Chapter 10 nearly wrecked me, lol. So that choice was self indulgent on my part.
And two, and this is a big one and kind of plays into my first reason, Viatica was a labor of love. I’ve mentioned before but it’s adapted from a novella I wrote 25 years ago. Yes, it was linear because of this. The original was never published, but not for lack of trying. And it’s always been a bit of disappoint in the back of my mind. So this was me finally publishing the story I always wanted to write. The fact that I get to share it with you all, and have the response that it has had, has been the cherry on top. Believe me, I appreciate it soo much! ❤️ But ultimately, I had a desperate need to see this story published this way.
I do plan to explore more drama and (shudder) angst in the new IF. Not all the ROs will get along, there may even be some betrayals, and MC doesn’t have to always be the good guy. I’m not sure if I’ll go full on bad ending, but we’ll see!

The Eternal Library: a Romantasy Retelling IF (WIP)
Tumblr media
What if Cinderella and the prince grew up together?
What if the king was the evil one?
What if the missing piece wasn’t a glass slipper, but ancient memories buried in your soul?
Tumblr media
Fight for forbidden love in a cruel kingdom and forge alliances with the heir to the crown.
Buried beneath the sprawling castle at the heart of Minare is a room most think is legend: the Library of Souls. As a member of the royal cleaning staff—and one with Fae-blood—sneaking into the Eternal Library is a dangerous idea, but you risk it for a ritual that gives you the skills of your warrior ancestor and a mission that spans lifetimes.
Destiny calls your warrior spirit to wake.
Assassins are infiltrating the castle.
The kingdom is ripe for change, and it needs your help.
Your soul has waited lifetimes for the chance to put things right.
Now, it’s time.
Play as male, female, or nonbinary; gay, straight, bi; asexual; monogamous or polyamorous.
Romance or befriend a scholarly prince, a down-to-earth princess, a scarred soldier, a soft-spoken spy, a sweet-hearted maid, or a Fae warrior-mage. 3 male and 3 female ROs: Romance character descriptions.
This is a SLOW BURN ROMANCE. Optional explicit scenes will be offered at the end of the game, but it’ll be a while before we get to those. Enjoy the secret glances and deep yearning until then. ❤️
This is a standalone story set in the same world as Their Majesties’ Pleasure and Ink and Intrigue. You do not need to have played either of those games to enjoy this one.

I have no thoughts other than library depression now. I don't even know how a library can be depressed, but it is.

Binah catches a falling star.
it's warm and bright in her hands, the most brilliant thing she's ever seen. it thaws away her icy veneer. melts the frost coating her fingers and limbs, flickering in the dark.
she wants it near. wants it safe.
Binah holds the glowing ember close, cradling it in her arms. willing it to keep her warm against the bitter, biting cold. she gives the star her heart, and it exchanges its own back to her out of sheer kindness and love.
the ex-Arbiter runs a hand over your cheek, tilting your head up gently with a slight smile. she can still see the stars in your eyes.
