SPREADSHEET OF PALESTINIAN ESCAPE FUNDS‼️TIME SENSITIVE
Operation Olive Branch is a continuously updating spreadsheet of Palestinian escape funds where progress towards their goals is being tracked. As of right now, there are over 100 funds listed there.
Any amount of money can make a difference. With their recent decision to bomb Rafah, the only remaining “safe” territory in Gaza, Israel has forced Palestinians into a corner by giving them nowhere else to go. The international community has given Israel the ability to act with impunity - it is long past the point in time to rely on those in power to hold Israel to any standard of compassion.
Today, I want you to look at this document, choose a fund, contribute to it, and share it. The people in Rafah are living on borrowed time. Free Palestine.

Something I think worth mentioning about villain redemptions is, in addition to people just liking the characters; one reason the villain fans want redemptions for the League is that their redemptions would almost certainly signify the addressing & remedy of serous systemic issues that have affected many characters and aspects of the series, and have been felt since the first line of the series.
Tumblr media
It’s no secret that the world of HeroAca is plagued with systemic issues rooted in inequality, corruption, and the gross mishandling of quirks among other things. These have affected both villains like Shigaraki, Dabi, Toga, & Spinner, and hero students like Izuku, Shoto, Shinsou, & Shoji. However while the students’ character focus is, on average, about how to overcome these hurdles to become good heroes and what kind of heroes that makes them; the villains’ character focus is more on what to actually do about the systemic issues they were never able to just overcome, and so are attempting to tackle full force. In other words, the handling of the villains is seemingly going to be directly tied and inversely correlated to the handling of those systemic issues and, in turn, just how many problems are really going to be solved in the aftermath and not rear their heads again..
Tumblr media
The Problems
It’s like this: people often like to compare BNHA to Avatar: The Last Airbender (probably because of Todoroki’s resemblance to Zuko, even though his position is more like a less Azula-ish Azula, but that’s beside the point), and have even made comparisons between Shigaraki & Dabi and Ozai. Now that’s more than a bit weird, but we’re gonna role with that to explain something.
See, the thing about Ozai is, he was in a position of power; a position from which he and the last 2 Fire Lords had effectively caused all of the problems. And the reason they did that was basically just because they were arrogant; they thought the Fire Nation was better than everywhere else. Meanwhile; the Gaang had Zuko, the next in line to the throne who had been enlightened by his travels about the values of the other nations & how wrong the Fire Nation’s way of doing things was. The Gaang new if they defeat Ozai & Azula, he gets that position of power and will cease all the problems arising from it. For them, that part of the plan was simple: defeat the big bad = no more problems.
Tumblr media
For Shigaraki & the League, it’s no where near that easy. See, while they have acquired power in various forms; they’re really just average joes picked off the street. Naturally occurring misanthropes produced by societal failures like oppression, abuse, inequality, prejudice, corruption, and other such topics. Heck, Jin’s name means ‘humanity’; both as in compassion, but also as in a face in the crowd (or rather the entire crowd). And Shigaraki even once compared them all to maggots crawling out of the trash piles the heroes swept under the rug. And you aren’t gonna accomplish much just squashing the maggots; they’re just gonna keep coming faster & faster as the piles get bigger & bigger, and even without a League we’d just see more Kaminos, Fukuokas, Daikas, & Jakus. The thing they need to address is the trash piles, the issues in society, in order to actually stop the problems.
The Easy-Yet-Hard Solutions
“Well, okay,” you might say, “but can’t those societal problems get addressed and the villains still get killed or jailed for life, as are the consequence for their actions?” Well technically yes, that is possible, but the problem is it would be a very, very, very hard sell to the audience.
For one; not many on the heroes’ side see these things as problems. To most of them, the biggest problem in society is that it needs more All Might. Not to say there’s no one in the country who thinks society needs to change...but there is the slight hurdle that a good number of them joined the PLF, and are presumably headed off to Death Row for association with Shigaraki. (You may think that’s an extreme assumption, but Kurogiri got worse for very similar crimes.) This doesn’t exactly discount our heroes tackling all those root issues we discussed; but, well, it’s a bit hard to believe the heroes might try to change society in accordance with the wishes of people we assume they’ll just think of as enemies until the end. (Especially regarding the necessary changes that might inconvenience the heroes.)
Tumblr media
What’s more, the villains most directly represent the victims of those issues, so it’s hard to separate their treatment from the handling of those issues. There’s just some dissonance in the idea he heroes would be like “In our pursuit of justice, we shall ensure no hero has the power to abuse their family any more, and shall hold heroes accountable for any breaches of the law they commit. But as a separate matter, screw Dabi. Life in prison for him and he’s (debatably) lucky we’re not killing him. Endeavor of course shall walk free because he’s trying to change, and he’s gone through so much, and he means so much to us.” Like I said, that’s a hard sell. It gives off the impression that the heroes are just doing what they’ve always been doing, which conflicts with the idea that they’re then going to change things.
The Hard-Yet-Easy Solutions
Conversely, if the villains get redeemed and end up working with the heroes; societal restructuring to remedy those systemic root causes of villainy are all but guaranteed. They know better than most what problems there are in society, seem to have thought pretty hard on how to fix them or what alternative systems could be installed, and have no reason to be coy about any of that. The heroes, conversely, tend to have the faith in humanity to think they can better the world without needing any acts of terrorism, and the societal sway to then actually do it. Or at least will acquire that sway, if we’re assuming the UA students are gonna end up doing most of the leg work on this.
In short, each side has about half of what’s really needed to guarantee a societal remedy that’ll ensure we don’t get any more naturally occurring Shigarakis, Dabis, & Togas; and in turn that we don’t end up right back where we are now eventually.
It’s not quite accurate to say they need to work together on this; both sides could accomplish this restructuring on their own. But with the heroes, it’s highly questionable if they’d even think to change things if they get the chance, and how how hard they’d really try if they did; and with the villains we know they’d put their all into it, but it would incur massive costs in human life. If the villains get redeemed though, and the two sides work together on this? It’s very easy to believe the presence of one side would entirely eliminate the issues in the other’s methods. The best solution is the one that comes from both sides working together; and that’s probably why Izuku & Shigaraki’s quirks each ended up being named after half the phrase “All for one and one for all”.
Conclusion
Tumblr media
Look. I get it. The League are terrorists, there’s no getting around that, and at times it can feel like the villains fans ignore this. But that truth is that it’s more complicated than that.
Shigaraki’s inner circle are simultaneously some of the victims most in need of saving & some of the greatest threats the HeroAca-verse has ever faced. They are, in several ways, the greatest conflict a hero could ever face, and how a hero would handle them would define not only the type of hero they are but also the quality of hero they are. I’m just saying; a high quality hero that’d save them, the real Plus Ultra-type, would probably be the kind best suited to taking care of those metaphorical garbage piles and reach that “no more problems” state you usually want your stories to end in.
Does that really mean they need to get away with everything they’ve done? Honestly, got me buddy. Like I said, from a hero’s perspective, their situation is complicated; so if you’re looking for the perfect solution for how a hero should handle them, it’ll probably be pretty complicated in itself. To me personally, that stuff seems like details. What I’m most prioritizing is if we’ll get the best resolution to the root issues as possible.

Sky’s Limit- Hermitcraft- Worldbuilding
Heyo! This was the product of a plot bunny I got while watching the newest animated music video by Porter Robinson, and it features pretty much all the hermits. Long into the distant future, there is a city of gleaming white and technological marvels. Electricity is entirely clean, its people are always happy, and life- as it has always done- goes on. However, for all it seems like a utopia, there is one facet that may seem out of place. The city is truly, utterly silent. Sure, there are voices and happy chatter, laughter on street corners and children running in the streets. But there is no hum, no electric buzz that most crafters of the past would have been familiar with. There is no redstone. For indeed, the red dust is entirely illegal and those who work with it are relegated to the city’s dark underbelly. And not all of them are happy to be there. It is in this city, the city of Sky’s Limit, that I have dropped our hermits. Time will tell what happens next.
----
A story in which the world has been… purified. Think skyblock, portrayed as a world of natural wonder, soft angles and high rises that scrape the clouds above, all in shimmering shades of pearlescent white. The only noise is the rushing of the wind through the grass far, far below and the distant echo of passing conversation and laughter. There are no cars, no chatter of coms, no hissing creepers or vroomping, thieving endermen. Just peace. And sometimes, if you listen carefully enough, the flapping of wings as the most blessed of the city’s inhabitants fly  overhead, the celebrity darlings and envy of everyone below. For some of the hermits, life is good. Bdubs, Xisuma, Grian, and Jevin are all upper nobility. Xisuma and Grian are some of the lucky few with wings (bee and bird respectively for X and G), while Jevin is blessed simply for being sky blue and transparent- and a being so like the sky must surely be worthy of high ranking. Surely. Xisuma is an administrator of the city, one of those who keep track of the nitty-gritty bits, like how much food each sector goes through a month, the efficiency of the watering systems in the fields, etc. Grian is just a straight up celebrity darling, beloved by the people for his pranks and personality. Late at night, he runs a TV talk show. Jevin has a seat on the city governance, one of thirteen “elected” chancellors. Bdubs is another chancellor, low-key the one in charge, as it was his idea to create a city of white, one that ran on clean energy and lawfulness, who drew up the first blueprint and built much of the city himself. It’s said that there’s no corner of it he isn’t aware of, no part that he didn’t have a hand in designing. While this isn’t quite the case, one thing is certain- BDubs certainly has “designs” and they are very grand indeed. After these hermits fall the ones who are upper to middle class. Stress is a well-trusted doctor in the city’s finest hospital. She believes in the system that saved her life so long ago with all her heart and does her best to keep the city and its people running as best as they possibly can. Compassion and lawful goodness fall into the same boat for Stress, which can sometimes end poorly for criminals who go to her for medical care, thinking that surely a doctor as kind as Stress would never turn away someone, even if they have broken the law. What they forget is that becoming a doctor takes a spine of steel, and Stress has gone one step above the rest- she has a spine of chrome, and she will do what she must to keep her city running strong. (Incidentally, that chrome spine of hers? Not hyperbole, an “accident” at 6 made sure of that.) Vintagebeef runs a butcher shop and is mid to low ranking. He serves the best sandwiches in the city, as attested to by his best customers, Rendog and Falsesymmetry. Rendog is a happy go lucky reporter who spends equal time chasing skirts as he does chasing his next scoop. False is a beat cop, one of the best, and she’s gone viral at least once for dumping criminals who think that just because she's a girl that means she can’t fight. She’s particularly embarrassed (and a bit proud) of the video of her literally picking up a criminal and dumping him the nearest trash chute. Welsknight, the unfortunate garbage man, was quite unhappy to have to remove the criminal from the chute, as for all of False’s strength, she wasn’t quite strong enough to pry the man loose again. He now low-key follows False around to clean up all of her messes as while the media at large is quite fond of her feats, the local infrastructure isn’t.  Somehow, he always ends up at the right place at the right time. Scar is a bit down on his luck, but overall is doing pretty well for himself. He’s one of the architects for the city, was in fact famous for a time for creating a specific style of sheer white skyscraper that allowed for more solar panels to be placed along its side. However, 2 years later and people are starting to realize that for some reason, his buildings aren’t as efficient as they ought to be and his designs have since fallen out of favor. Rendog had taken great joy running his name through the muck, unfortunately, as a man’s got to eat and for all the Scar is a nice guy, a renowned architect falling from grace makes for quite the scoop. The two don’t like each other much, but they’ve actually seen each other’s faces. Anyway, Scar has been living off of his savings, hoping that someone up top would care enough about him to fix the issue and find out what went wrong. After 2 years of nothing, however, he has realized that if he ever wants to figure out the mystery of his buildings’ lack of efficiency, he’ll need to find out himself. Little does he know, Keralis, the architect that replaced him, has been doing quite well for himself and the last thing he wants is to lose his position to the guy he had replaced. While a generally nice guy, Keralis has had a taste of the high life and now there’s no going back. He knows what Scar is up to, and is quite… invested in keeping the status quo. No. Matter. What. Joe Hills runs a bookstore. A completely normal bookstore. Yes, really officer, I promise. Just like how XB, his best friend and right hand man, employee of the month, every month, is entirely average in every way and has never done anything wrong in his life, ever. There is one more among the hermits who has wings- Etho. Or rather, had. Etho had his wings cut off for undisclosed crimes against the city and now works in a toy shop on the outskirts of town. He’s thoroughly mysterious and always looks tired, but his toys and trinkets business does surprisingly well and he always seems happy, behind that mask of his. The only hint that this isn’t quite the case is the tightness around his eyes. A secret? When they told him that the pain would never stop, that awful night when they burnt his wings off? He didn’t believe them. (Oh god, the way it smelled.) He really, really should have.
You’ve heard about the shining white walls, the perfect healthcare, the love the people hold for the city and the rigor with which they defend it. The quiet, the peace, the wonderful golden silence found in its streets and reflecting from its windows. Even the light seems quieter there. If you’re smart, you may have picked up that something isn’t quite right with the city, that 2/3s of our cast seems to be missing. You’d be right, almost. Mumbo, Cub. Cleo? They aren’t missing- they’re hiding. And they have very good reason to do so.
The city’s name is Sky’s Limit, and it is built on a foundation of marble and hard, cold law. It is a city of white… and black. And lurking in its shadows are all those that do not belong, those whose colors do not fit, those who can’t afford the brilliant marble towers or the plastic smiles popularized by the rich and famous. It is a city choked into silence by its secrets and one thing it cannot abide is the humming electric whine of redstone. And those who practice it are criminals in the eyes of the law, to be persecuted to its fullest extent and often, even beyond. Even to the grave, if needs must or the council orders such. And BDubs is so very, very fond of his restful, quiet beauty sleep. Not everyone agrees with these laws however, and brewing in the black, sunless shadows of the city’s underbelly are those determined to see the city shine red. Zedaph is the closest to legal of the underground hermits- he has to be when he has two more mouths to feed, Tango and Impulse. Although the latter two are redstone geniuses and do well in making food stretch and and make their ramshackle rented apartment livable, it is Zedaph alone who  fake any marketable skills. While Impulse and Tango do their best to keep the lights on and use redstone wiring to steal power from the city’s solar- and wind-powered electrical grid, Zedaph peddles the doodads and toys he makes to the poorest children of the city. Many of them still contain some measure of redstone, as it's nigh-impossible to ignore its thrumming call entirely if you are born to do the stuff, but his target audience is usually too young, too uneducated, and too scared of the law to recognize it or say anything about it. And if a bit of redstone Impulse or Tango put together can help someone make it another day, and Zedaph can make it look passably legal? Well, some of the poorest housewives and mothers can look the other way The trio are happy together, but making ends meet is hard and with summer coming, resources are soon to be harder to get than ever. (A city of light and pure white? Things start to heat up fast, and water becomes more precious than ever. And with summer coming, it means less water gathering in puddles and drain pipes in the city, and thus less water for the underground redstoners and hybrids to tap into.) Little does Zedaph know, however, he’s caught the attention of another toymaker in the city. In addition to this, Tango is getting restless, frustrated with the trio’s lot in life. Even under normal circumstances he can’t sit still, and being cooped up inside all the time because his glowing red eyes give him away as being both a hybrid and really in tune with redstone? It sucks. A lot. Impulse tries to keep his buddy distracted, but there’s only so much he can do, and now, Tango has been disappearing at odd hours, frequently when he and Zedaph are trying to sleep, and coming back with an odd look in his eyes. Just a few days ago he had found the remains of a charred pamphlet in their dumpster out back. Something is coming to head, and Impulse isn’t sure he’s going to like the outcome. Not that he’d ever mention the mounting tension to Zedaph, of course. His buddy has enough to worry about. ZombieCleo… runs a speakeasy/burlesque show underneath Joe’s bookstore. She has his full approval of course, and they’re fast friends under the merits of he’s one of the only decent men she’s ever met. It helps that he’s hardcore aro-ace and has no interest in her or her girls. Cleo, being a zombie hybrid, knows all too well about the tough life being a hybrid is and how it can make people turn to awful things just to make ends meet. She knows that doing sex work is the last thing her girls want to be doing, not that they have a choice, and she does her best to do right by them. She protects her workers viciously, and if any of her patrons try to treat her girls too roughly, or try to skip out on payment? Well, being a hybrid comes with a few perks and a nice pair of teeth and nails is all part of the package. Coincidentally, Joe is awfully good at hiding a body. Doc is perhaps the most down on his luck of the hermits. As both a redstoner and an obvious hybrid, he can’t find work, he can’t find anyone willing to rent to him, he can barely even find food enough to eat. He’s resorted to petty theft and squatting, and if it wasn’t for his ruthless determination that this city would not be the death of him, he would have laid down and given up long ago. Not even the occasional rendezvous with the local garbage cans is enough to deter him (courtesy of the local beat cop. That woman has no right to be as strong as she is). It’s on one such day, trying to pry himself out of yet another trashcan far too small for him, that Doc finally gets his lucky break. The old man to whom the trashcan belongs to comes out, hoping to dispose of his waste for evening, and instead finds the creeper hybrid there, cursing up a storm and angry enough to kill. The sight would almost be threatening to TFC if, you know, he hadn’t seen worse and the hybrid in question looked like he hadn’t had a good meal for years. TFC invites Doc inside after helping to pry him loose, and Doc, while suspicious, accepts. TFC low key makes Doc move in with him and treats the man well, seeing as the poor hybrid reacts to every little thing as if he had never seen kindness. TFC also begins to tell stories to Doc about the time before the city was built, before redstone was outlawed and hybrids were looked down upon as lesser beings. And Doc, utterly enchanted by the concept, begins to have… ideas. Iskall was in the same position as Doc for a while, but they too get their lucky break. They get picked up by Mumbo Jumbo and is introduced to the Cotillion, the rebel group who are out to shake the city to its very foundations and bring about an age of redstone dominance. Mumbo and the hundreds of people under him plan on breaking the social order and instating redstoners and hybrids as the top dogs, and Iskall finds themself shocked that the rebels seem to have the organization and resources to actually do it. Mumbo is witty and charismatic, seemingly always having a plan and a silver-tongued speech to go with it. He also installs Iskall as second in command, much to their shock. Time will tell if the Cotillion is going to succeed. Cub is living in one of Scar’s buildings, along with many other redstoners. Just... Not entirely legally.
This is pretty much the end of the world-building section, I’ll come out with a post on the general plot as soon as I can. TBC :)

Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan, and my brother...
Edit:
Tl;dr: Jordan Peterson’s self-empowerment does not apply to those who are addicted to drugs and are currently living in abusive households. It’s okay to give people a lending hand when they ask. Telling them to go to a doctor and get a job when they explain their struggles, how they are broken and don’t know how to go to a doctor and get a job. For several years. Is not the best course of action.
It’s impossible to know what it’s like to be poor when you will never have to worry about it because your parents planned for your life properly and especially when your parents have hurt and manipulated you for years.
My oldest brother has told me to check out Jordan Peterson. I’ve known about him for a while. I used to be really into Joe Rogan and UFC, but I am no longer a fan and am actually embarrassed I used to like him. 2010-2017 . I listened to him some more today. He preached about how men need to forge their own path because no one is going to do it for them. That’s great advice. It’s empowering. Especially if you’re a small man with no father, which is why I feel this hits home with my oldest brother.  He’s short for a guy. 5f5-t6. He says 5ft8. Probably in shoes. Because every 5ft10 guy claims to be 6ft and it makes for awkward situations. I don’t condone insulting someone for their height. It’s something I’ve personally never worried about, because I’ve never had to. He has. It’s a struggle for a lot of shorter people and I understand this. I never really thought of him as short. When, I do, it explains the behavior in a way that I may be onto something.  We’ve had mutual friends, but he has always had different rules for us. He’s stricter with us. We don’t talk about our feelings. He’s in charge. He claims he’s always busy. He has worked at a used video game store in a part-time capacity while attending school for 20+. 3 kids, divorced. I had my grasp on millions of dollars. I touched mountain tops and gorgeous women on 100ft yachts. I did this coming from nothing and working an entry-level retail job. I met so many people who don’t have to worry about money it warped my perspective greatly.
My Dad more or less disowned my oldest brother as a bastard child and treated him harsh early-on. Perhaps he sees my suffering as validation of his decision to move out. I’ve tried relating to him on my Father’s abuse and multiple hobbies. Cycling, guitar, video games, music. He’s not interested.
He refuses to show any sort of compassion or empathy towards me. “Man, just look at him. He’s so bitter and resentful of anyone who is more successful or wealthier than him. He’s like a biker now. That’s why you don’t do drugs.”. It’s never too late to start. I have told him that. I can recall 2 times I have hung out with him in the last 10 years. His boundaries make for a shitty relationship.   Jordan Peterson was addicted to Xanax. When I hear him speak. I hear the same excuses every junkie makes. Instead of going through withdrawal and a taper. He went to Russia and received a treatment he couldn’t get in other countries. He was put into a coma for over 8 days. When I went through xanax withdrawal, I was also addicted to heroin. Nearly died from seizures. I had a broken jaw the entire time, I spent 7 days in ICU. 3 days in a psych ward AFTER that. I hadn’t made a mention of suicide since the first or second day. I refused to be admitted to the psych ward several times. They told me I had to sign the papers or the police were coming in. This was the only defiant act other than when I first woke up in the ICU after the seizure.
My jaw was shifted several inches and locked open. I couldn’t close my mouth for 10 days. I chewed with my tongue and top teeth. Because the inside of my cheek was pinched between my teeth, cut open, and infected.  Every time I talked. I chewed on the inside of my cheek.   I received no pain killers. I went to an oral surgeon at a dental college, with no anesthetic he snapped my jaw back in place. It took several minutes and another injection of lidocaine and cold spray. It didn’t help much. I was screaming.
After this. The abuse of my father continued. I also ran out of SSRI’s after 3 months of venlafaxine. SSRI withdrawal was new to me. I experienced it from December 2019-March 2020. I experienced a vertigo like sensation when I turned my head. It almost sounded like Star Wars blasters because there was high frequency ringing in my ears and the pitch would change when I turned my head. My vision felt a little warped too. I believe this sensation is what is commonly referred to as “brain zaps”.
I can already hear Jordan Peterson’s excuses. “But I help save people’s lives!” “I am different.” “I am the exception.”. It’s the same excuses every junkie who doesn’t like admitting mistakes makes. The first comment on the Jordan Peterson video I watched where he talks about the horrors of Xanax. It says “We love you Jordan, get well soon Brother!”.  It’s a cult-like group now. Pushing books, health pills, blenders. Whatever they can hock to people in order to keep their lifestyles up.  My first thought. Ha, that’s probably my brother. He’s never said anything like that to me before.
Tumblr media
Never. It’s not required. But it doesn’t exist between us. Never has. I tried to correct that and told him I liked how the families I met elsewhere acted towards each other and he agreed. Especially as his divorce and my moving back home coincided. I saw this as an opportunity to get to know him better. We did several things together but the kids were always there. It quickly became a chore. I made it clear several times that I had issues I wanted to address and speak about regarding my health and safety. Involving my parents. Involving my lungs, and living situation. I just wanted someone to talk to. I made that clear. Anyone. My middle brother is too shy and dumb to comprehend the big brain level I operate at. He’ll get triggered.  “Yeah dude, you should find a wife who will pay for your shit and work part-time for a poverty wage while being a part-time stay at home Dad.”. Knock’er up 3-4 times and complain about being poor when you have no career or college education until your mid 40′s. Yeah dude, you’re doing it all wrong. Just do it right!”.
I felt like some of the girls I dated, would’ve been into marriage. But seriously, I was so awkward around girls until my mid-20′s. No confidence that I was attractive or that a lot of the girls I was friend-zoning myself in wanted to fuck like porn stars. Or your heads on my lap?
I didn’t want to marry Lauren. I thought she was too beautiful and talented to be influenced by my negativity. That’s honestly what I told myself when I stayed up, watched her sleep, to make sure she was still breathing. I haven’t really written about her yet. It’s going to be tough.
He’s not a trashy person or a mean person by any means. He’s always been a smug little prick, with a holier than thou. Despite having the same hobbies. He never invited me or accepted my invitations. I think it’s weird. You’re my brother. Stop being so weird about everything and put your guard down for a second. Take-off the lifts. Everyone knows.
I never put much thought into how being short could have an impact in our relationship. But with all of the Joe Rogan memes about how he over-compensates for his small stature by framing shots with furniture. I realized that my brother does over-compensate for his lack of height.  I think most smaller men do. There’s nothing wrong with that, except for the overly macho way Rogan talks about how someone who is insecure about their height needs to conquer their inner-bitch and start a podcast. Channel the “violence” in your DNA as he has.  He’s being a hypocrite. The dude is on so many drugs and hormones, his head increased 3x. Good for him, right? Except the dude tells millions of cult-like followers that hormones are fucked up. The fake-it until you make-it attitude is selfish and shallow. The average person interprets that as, “It’s okay to lie, cheat, and steal, as long as you make money.” “Be selfish, it’s the best way, when it benefits you! Socialism is good?”. Sending me mixed signals.
Seems like he only cares because he realizes it makes him hypocritical and I feel Joe Rogan is overly-sensitive about anything that could make him appear as homosexual.  So, that’s where the attraction in these leaders of men who don’t feel powerful, didn’t have fathers, and feel abandoned in the world are attracted to people like this. They seek guidance and found it.  I simply want to seek guidance from my friends and family. I don’t have friends and I don’t have family.  I should’ve shacked up with a wealthy girl in Colorado when I had the chance, right?. I thought that was such a shallow and shitty way to think. My parents would always say that. But, I chose to continue valuing making my own path. My brothers actually tried to hurt me during this time and that’s the only time they have done so. I think they were jealous that I was living on my own. I was struggling and poor. But I was doing it. I am capable.  Going down the path of addiction. I’ve been through heroin withdrawal 50-100 times. I chipped and shot up, used daily when I could. Got sick when I couldn’t. Benzos twice. SSRI’s once.  It’s similar to how someone who will never run out of money or be in a position such as yourself. Telling you to get a job and go to the doctor. After everything I just wrote(I don’t expect many, if anyone to read this and likely dismiss me as a severely disturbed individual to be avoided.). Keep in mind. A lot of the abuse from my parents, happened leading up to and AFTER my most recent suicide attempt. Calling me fat happened 5 months after I was released. I asked my Dad to stop calling me names “worthless fat piece of shit” or laugh when I’m making food. He knows I have a history of cutting and getting bullied. He’s just ignorant.  That’s why it’s weird to see him with such low energy and I feel there is something going on with him health wise. He is incapable of being nice for some reason. So, he is just not going to speak to me now. That is better. I wish he could just understand, admit his mistakes, and move on. That’s a trend in my family. No one admits mistakes. These people snap and go crazy rather than admit any sort of mistake. I used to be like that when I was younger. But I snapped out of it when I was around ~20yrs olds thanks to hallucinogenic drugs.  Alright, that’s enough. If I ever lose my vocal chords due to the throat cancer I likely have. At least I’m a decent enough writer. I could condense this greatly, by not rambling and getting my point across in a formatted/concise manner.  Typing and writing keep my fingers nimble. I started playing acoustic guitar last week. First time in a year or so. I might upload something.

HOW TO BE GOOD
Microsoft. But after the habit of so many years my idea of work finally broke free from the idea of work finally broke free from the idea that work is boring. Just wait till all the 10-room pensiones in Rome discover this site. I don't feel like I have to bother being diplomatic with a British audience. It's a good thing. It would be pretty easy to write a novel, for example, or because you've been assigned to work on a Python project than you could to work on it. Long words for the first time that measures taken in an atmosphere of panic had the opposite of the intended effect. Because it's too easy for people who control a private company to funnel its revenues to themselves e. The average MIT graduate wants to work at things you don't like it is that there's no such thing. I realize I might seem to have to do so much besides write software. So while on average public acquirers behave like pooled-risk company management companies existed, there would be.1
Joe Kraus says you should try charging customers right away.2 If Hewlett and Packard tried running an electronics company out of their garage in Switzerland, the old lady next door would report them to the demo days we organize for startups to grow. Having coffee with a friend matters.3 But they'd be bad at picking startups. Every other funding cycle is in Boston half the time: it's hard to have odd ideas about politics. That version 4.4 Except not quite: whatever would be least work if your ideas about what to do without understanding how to do it on a smaller scale without moving.5 In poor countries, things we take for granted are missing. You're just asking to be made a fool of, because these are such powerful forces leading us astray, it's not saying much that America is more open to immigration than Japan.
There is one thing companies can do short of structuring themselves as sponges: they can stay small.6 For describing pages, we had to rely mostly on examples in books. But the superficial ugliness of Perl is not the absolute number of new programming languages lately. If there's something we can do is encourage people to do some of the best startups it produced would be sucked away to existing startup hubs.7 This is why hackers worry.8 There's no need for a Microsoft of France or Google of Germany. When I learned to program when computer power was scarce. And if you're doing really badly, meaning the company is making little profit. I do office hours I have to bother being diplomatic with a British audience. Which suggests there are lessons ahead for most of Octopart's life, the biggest distributor, Digi-Key is trying to stop them in order to get things done. I was a kid I was firmly in the camp of bad.9
In industrialized countries we walk down steps our whole lives and never think about this, I'm not proposing this is a fairly efficient market. The simplest way to protect yourself is to use the trick that John D. Oddly enough, the leaders now are European countries like Belgium, which has a capital gains tax rate of zero. I expect that, as with the stupendous speed of the underlying hardware, parallelism will be wasted.10 Which means it's doubly important to hire the best people.11 Most businesses are tightly constrained in a. Painters and writers notoriously do.12 To do good work, you need a separate word for startups, accumulated knowledge about how to cure it. But it's gone now. A hacker working on some programming language or operating system might likewise be able to design the core language, that would be awkward to describe as regular expressions can be described easily as recursive functions. Startup founder is not the sort I mean. So if they're all squawking, perhaps there is something amiss.
Because their current business model depends on overcharging people who have incomplete information about prices. I'm hoping once the present administration is out, the natural openness of American culture will reassert itself. I suspect that if you want to get anything done.13 Bill Gates, and Michael Dell can't be a good idea to save some easy tasks for moments when you would otherwise stall.14 And so hackers, like painters, must have empathy to do really well, I should introduce them to angels, because VCs would never go for it.15 What matters is not the sort of poking around that leads to new ideas. It works so well that those who can't do, teach some of the best hackers to work for a startup at all, because if your sponsor goes out of business, you have a day job using it.16
Notes
The history of the leading scholars of that. What has changed over time, which can happen in any other company has to give their associates the title associate has gotten a bad idea. If a company growing at 5% a week for 19 years, it increases your confidence in a cupboard saying this cupboard must be kept empty.
Programming languages should be designed to live.
If they agreed among themselves never to do this yourself. The problem in high school junior. It is just the local builders built everything in it.
But people like Jessica is not Apple's products but their policies. In 1525 he was notoriously improvident and was troubled by debts all his life. To be fair, curators are in love with their company for more of the VCs want it to the point where things start to pull ahead in the definition of property without affecting and probably also the highest price paid for a sufficiently good bet, why did it. Yes, there was a refinement that made steam engines dramatically more efficient: the quality of the movie, but some do.
When one reads about the other cheek skirts the issue; the critical path to med school.
For sufficiently small audiences, it would annoy our competitor more if we just implemented it ourselves, so we also give any startup that wants to program a Turing machine.
The first assumption is widespread in text classification. You should only need comments when there is one resource patent trolls need: lawyers.
If a prestigious VC makes a small amount, or an electric power grid than without, real estate development, you can do with down rounds—like full ratchet anti-dilution, which in startups is uninterruptability. Someone who's not a VC firm wants to program a Turing machine.
Ditto for case: I switch in mid-game.
Trevor Blackwell wrote the image generator were written in C and C, the world population, and spend hours arguing over irrelevant things.
Com.
Your user model almost couldn't be perfectly accurate, because investors don't yet get what they're capable of.
Google's site. That's a good grade you had a strange task to companies via internship programs. The average B-17 pilot in World War II, must have believed since before people were people.
A lot of people, you don't have those. But increasingly what builders do is leave them alone in the angel round from good investors that they were just ordinary guys. If there's an Indian grocery store near you doesn't mean easy, of S P 500 CEOs in the 1920s to financing growth with the best ways to get market price if they were offered were so bad that they are themselves typical users.
Paul Buchheit for the same trick of enriching himself at the leading scholars of that, founders will seem like a headset or router. This is, obviously, only Jews would move there, and I have no connections, you'll usually do a scatterplot with benevolence on the valuation should be your compass. Parents can sometimes be especially skeptical about Viaweb too. A lot of startups will generally raise large amounts of our own online store.
Who is being put through an internal process at work. The real problem is not always as deliberate as its sounds. The way to see famous startup founders is exaggerated now because it's a net win to do as a symptom, there are few who can predict instead of happy. This suggests a good plan in which case this behavior at least once for the difference between us and the opinion of the 70s, moving to Monaco would only give you more than the time it was because he had once talked to a degree, to a can of soup.
Thanks to Geoff Ralston, Harj Taggar, Jessica Livingston, Michael Seibel, and Robert Morris for the lulz.

INDEPENDENT GROCERS: THRIVING IN UNCERTAIN TIMES
Tumblr media
Guest Blog by Venu Gopalakrishnan, Founder and Global CEO of Litmus7 Systems Consulting
Tumblr media
Now those wars are being fought in the invisible digital space; in order to survive, a purpose driven consolidation of like-minded business is inevitable.
The wars, which will be fought in these invisible spaces today, will become far more intense tomorrow! It’s time to get the act ‘together’.
The territorial understanding.
The intelligence of today’s consumers will be exponentially superseded by the future consumer’s intelligence and awareness levels. In this new age of total consumer awareness, TRUST and GENUINENESS are going to be a scarce commodity.
Consumers of the future will be much more sensitive to their health than today. To cite an example Thanksgiving 2018 witnessed the sale of large-sized Turkey going down by 8.3% from previous year’s sales, whereas Toms’ went up by 6.5%. One of the key reasons cited is that people have become more informed about industrial farming; hence they're a little turned off by practices like antibiotics and caging necessary to produce a 30-lb Turkey. So, the point is, industry will see more responsible consumers than their predecessors
To illustrate the point about trust, consider this. I have Amazon Prime on my phone, I also have a Safeway and Traders Joe’s within a mile, but I prefer Traders Joe’s despite the fact that they are totally ignorant about both the conventional digital conveniences and traditional loyalty programs. I go there because I trust them, I go there because I get to feel their value is rooted in their efforts to ensure the right food for the right people and the fact that they’ve managed to bring enough joy to the faces of their store agents.
Understanding the threat dimensions for independent retailers
Consolidation of business: Amazon, Walmart and Kroger will continue to increase their market shares, forcing pressure on independent business.
The likes of Instacarts who shields brands from consumers and such intermediaries themselves are susceptible to consolidation.
Lack of preparation and response from independent supermarkets to embrace the emerging digital future of retailing
Preparing for the uncertain times (the 7 milestones)
Tumblr media
Combining the genuineness of independent retailers with the possibilities of what digital future can offer will help this unstructured segment thrive in the age of uncertain times. Here are some ways of doing it.
1. Purpose driven consolidation: Unlike the equity-based alliances, the independent retailers will be collaborating on a larger purpose which has a market size of $130Bn and is the first step towards uniting the distributed segment, which the NGA can facilitate.
2. Reimagining business for frictionless retailing:
a. All business as stores b. Delivering unified consumer experience across the consortium c. All connected feeder businesses as services to help design business agility, way beyond any technologically advanced businesses can ever achieve.
3. Connected consumer: Connecting isolated consumers for a better cause and their health.
a. Re-visioning the purpose around Genuineness (cause and delight) and therefore establishing Trust that can never be broken.
b. Connecting the decentralized consumer community through “Farm-To-Table Green” Loyalty program designed specifically for driving good health programs. The NGA can lobby and influence the Congress to get those consumers capitalize their sustainability score to get discounts on their utility bills.
c. Green Score (Sustainability): Driving awareness around sustainability among consumers through the Green Score. Today, only the relatively rich can afford electric cars and renewable energy and they are even given subsidy for their sustainable quotient. However, that community is probably less than 10% of the total population. The NGA can be that agent who drives the sustainability quotient to the rest of the world and become the world’s first agent to lobby and help their consumers get subsidies on utility bills for supporting farm-to-table efforts of NGA grocers.
4. Driving convenience together:
a. Businesses connecting to Instacart for delivery than consumers choosing them
b. “You Won’t Run Out of Stock”! Grocers know what their consumers bought and have the ability to track and replenish their home inventory
c. Always delivering convenience ahead of industry
5. Value beyond grocery. Beyond delivering grocery, help consumers with insights into their lifestyle through the following services:
a. Dietary check
b. Food Budget check
c. Sustainability score
d. Subscribe to events and meet-ups
6. OneSystem® model to drive efficiency
Forget the cost of running a digital platform; long back, businesses used to build systems right from scratch, but today it is more around COTS applications and SAS models. All the systems were designed and built primarily to play around with the intelligence of consumer data and product data. But in the future, what if such information transcends to become the basic right of every business? What if brands and retailers can access such information from a common platform?Today, independent grocers can bring that future closer to them by on-boarding to a one system model, which is managed through a shared OPEX pool, essentially helping them to secure a Digital future more powerful than amazon.
7. ConsumerX (Intelligent Consumer): Delivering extreme consumer experience by converting todays transactional consumer into an intelligent one. State of intelligence designed around intents, relationships, historical transactions and product knowledge.
Shift 'right', to think one step ahead of the curve to understand ConsumerX.
The demographic shifts
a) The shift to ever-smaller average household size. The 2010 census showed the average US household size at 2.58 inhabitants; it is believed that number has gone down since.
b) Ethnic mix and its impact on food choices
Conscious shift
a) At upper income and educational levels – to a greater interest and awareness of health, food quality, and food provenance.
b) Shift in internet shopping - with its demands for O2O capabilities such as BOPUS and BOSFS
Shift towards TRUST
a) Protection of data.
b) Authenticity of products/services/value proposition.
c) Consistency of operational delivery.Aligning with these 7 milestones or more around those lines can save the genuine independent grocers to thrive in the future.
So what does it all mean?
If all of these independent retailers stand united to deliver 'one experience' across multiple channels, we are talking about 21000 stores and $131 billion overall business forming 25% of United States' grocery market! Does it not stand qualified to challenge the biggies?
If yesterday was all about the size, tomorrow would be all about intelligence. But people have always loved peace and compassion! Care for them, and they will protect you and your business!
All businesses flourish when consumers loves the brand or service! The NGA can help independent grocers enter the new age with a smile!
Embracing the models designed for the intelligence of a consumer in the 1960’s won’t help win the hearts of consumers of the future.
Stand united for a Grocery Revolution. Let your consumers adore and protect you.

In hindsight, the chatacters appeal to being a everyman average joe was adolecence incarnate. Basically Peter had built his life fighting crime and saving people with the intention of keeping it secret, while his hero life was a something of a cover up to live domestically. The problem to me was every time peter do some normal hobby and job, he always brougt spiderman in to these situations where we as fans are suppose to acknowledge as being a admirable side of the character to prove his maturity and responsibility. I think the opposite and think its tedious and immature inconsistancy involving a man who once dated a criminal as a result of putting his reputation as a hero above his domestic priorites, nearly because he switches identities like clothes thinking hero life should be kept to himself and his normal life rest break. See thats childish, and being spiderman had cost him not only time to put others before himself in personal jobs but its shown to be self destructive to his emotional and mental state with people hes deluded himself to serving beyond his right to protect. Sometimes at his most basic, Peter looks like a teenager play hooky, playing games than acting like a working man. He works his butt off but he still chooses to ignore his responsibility for another which is not the good theme superhero comics stand for, it highlights deliberate negligance of making a sacrafice for something bigger than ones own values. And Peter not only chooses to be Spiderman than Peter, he does so with no foresight how this would affect everyone in his personal life especially his aunt, girlfriends and some friends that know peter but not spidey because he thinks nothing about his duel life will matter to others but himself. His normal life is pretty much non existamt, i cant buy he enjoys it more than web slinging and doing hero activities, he gets involved with other heroes and makes himself a known hero pretty fast to bad guys and anti heroes, he also lies to heroes and family to make his little secret unknown like he doing them a favor when hes just being cocky about keeping his life under control. Hes like a teen in a movie that skips school to do something fun. And acts like he can fool the teacher from finding out hes gone. With the audacity to think he has a way to do the things he wants and have the things he needs with no consequences. This is basically his narrative amd default, and writers like to put him through tons of suffering amd asops because peter thinks like ferris buller amd bruce wayne. An seasoned adult like Peter having to learn lessons like a teenager because he never learned 3 times before is bad. Real Bad. I love Spider-Mam. But he never grew up and convinced me he could be adult without his powers, his sense of adventure, his idealistic viewpoint, and his infamous woe is me teen angst complex. Peter is like goku and luffy, hes very simple and innocent but is determined to do anything that lets him enjoy things without chaging a thing. I thank slott because he made peter step up and become a self aware adult that has self reflected his experience and decided to revive himself to a heroic version of himself as peter parker, and put his life into a bigger impact since he finally knows who he is and what he can do(scientist that has to much compassion for people), hes not the borderline insane underdog who dismisses everything about his foes and adventures when hes just peter parker the man and thinks he lives a half glass full life with people telling him he could do better but he thinks otherwise. Always thinking like a overgrown teenage nerd that takes his life as far as a photographer and lives with old women and lives with super models. Peter has better victories and a large rouges list, and the rich peter is just now letting it sink in and doing something about it. And hes acting like a better ceo than stark and tchalla ever were well nicer than those two asses.

Coldflash one-shot - “Racking Up Points” (Rated T)
Len following Barry around Central City started out as surveillance, a way to learn The Flash's secrets. But the more time Len spent following Barry, the more he got it into his head to start helping Barry out here and there ... so Barry would end up owing him one. Yup. That's the reason. (2416 words)
Warning for mention of injuries.
Originally written for the @coldflashweek2016 prompt 'saving each other'.
Read on AO3.
Following The Flash wasn’t supposed to become a past time for Len. It had started out as research. Strategy. Barry Allen was Len’s only real roadblock to getting anything done in Central City, and now that Len had decided to extend his stay, he needed to know how to defeat him. Len had already learned two of Barry’s biggest weaknesses – his compassion for others and his secret identity. But those were no longer leverage enough. Len had to really wedge himself underneath Barry’s skin like a splinter, become a permanent presence, but not as a simple adversary. He had to evolve into something that would spark Barry’s interest.
A pet project.
Len had to constantly blur the line between good and evil, be ambiguous enough in Barry’s eyes that no matter what he did, Barry would see him as redeemable.
That way, Barry would always give him another chance.
But following The Flash around had become fun. When Barry wasn’t in the midst of a battle, performing superhuman stunts and flinging witty one-liners, he was actually a bit of a klutz. In the time since Len had started chasing him down, he’d watched Barry smack into more flagpoles, trip over more air, and destroy more asphalt than Len thought humanly possible.
If Barry wasn’t a superhero, Central City would be shaking him down for millions in repair costs.
Len kind of regretted not recording all of Barry’s foul ups and uploading them to YouTube. He could sell his videos to the news stations and make some serious bank. And with the amount of conspiracy theorists trolling the Internet, searching for clues to The Flash’s secret identity, maybe he could start a subscription only service and live off the residuals. Then he could hang up his cold gun for good.
If anything, it could be a way to transition Lisa out of this life of crime he’d unintentionally initiated her into. She could be the face in front of the camera, talking before the clips, and Len could work behind the scenes, providing the content.
The only downside was that if anyone found out that the recordings came from Len, they might stop seeing him as a credible threat and start seeing him as a fanboy. He’d have to quit crime altogether, possibly join Team Flash, and fight for truth, justice, and the American way.
Len chuckled at the absurdity. Like that could ever happen. Still, in another life, it might be something to think about.
For being a superhero with a secret identity, who performed secret experimentation in a secret lab, The Flash wasn’t that difficult to find. It didn’t matter that Len hadn’t finished high school, which Dr. Snow kindly kept reminding the members of their team. It didn’t take a lot of intelligence to use a screwdriver and a soldering iron. Or to buy a police scanner and a drone. S.T.A.R. Labs had their fingerprints on tech all over the city. Even with the cheap, electronic devices readily available to the average thirteen-year-old who’d swiped their parents’ credit card, tracking S.T.A.R. Labs wasn’t rocket science.
The trick was not to let them know that Len was watching. The second they knew, they’d find a way to knock him out, and then he’d have to start over from scratch. But by then, they might up their game. Len wasn’t afraid of a challenge. He was always up for improving his skill set. But there was no reason to make things harder than necessary.
But lately, Len had gone from casual observer to participant, and it happened quite by accident. The first time, it was to save his own skin. He was made by a guy during a robbery The Flash was thwarting. Whoever he was, he thought Len was an undercover cop. Len was fine to leave him be and let The Flash handle him, take him to jail with all the other rejects, but the man called Len out. So Len took him out of the picture. Len realized later that by doing so, he’d eliminated a threat for The Flash.
And it felt good.
Little by little, Len started interfering more – took out a henchman here, tripped up a metahuman there, sometimes with his gun, sometimes with his bare hands. He liked to think that he may have saved Barry’s neck a couple of times. Len had no intention of jumping ship, but he did find himself embracing his inner chaotic neutral. It didn’t seem fair that Barry was out on the streets, risking his neck on his own, with his whole team watching from the safety of S.T.A.R. Labs. Len would think that at least Cisco would be willing to get his hands dirty. Cisco had the balls. He’d defended Barry against Len with that super powered cold gun (which Len had discovered later through spy drone surveillance was actually a super powered vacuum cleaner), but Len hadn’t seen Cisco hit the bricks since.
Maybe Len was giving Ramon too much credit. Maybe he was just a one and done kind of guy.
And yeah, Barry had the CCPD on his side, but it seemed like they’d slack off a bit once they heard that The Flash was headed for the scene.
It seemed to Len that the police in this town needed to get off their asses and earn a buck.
Well, if they weren’t, then Len would.
Not because he felt sorry for the kid, but because he liked The Flash owing him one. He’d keep racking up the points and then turn them in for something big later on. And as for watching Barry’s back, well, all those brownie points that Len had been accruing wouldn’t be worth anything to him if Barry was dead.
Yeah. He'd keep telling himself that. Considering the fact that he wasn’t keeping any evidence of the good deeds he’d done, the likelihood that he’d be able to convince Barry that he’d been giving him a hand was next to nil.
Tonight, Len was stalking Mr. Incredible while he rescued textile workers from a structure fire. The warehouse in flames was located only a few miles outside of town, but Len didn’t know why fire crews hadn’t shown up yet. The fire had to be visible for miles around. Deep in his gut, Len had a bad feeling that this might be some sort of inside job, but he didn’t have the connections to check on that hunch. For now, he’d have to wait things out and make sure that Golden Boy didn’t get himself into too much trouble.
If Barry did go up in flames, Len had his gun on him. He could just cool Barry off.
Sweep after sweep, The Flash raced in and out, pulling singed workers to safety two at a time and depositing them God knew where. Couldn’t be Police Plaza, because then they’d be here to lend a hand, wouldn’t they?
Just as Barry zipped back in from his last delivery, a gold Buick Century pulled up and parked not too far from Len. From the make and model of their vehicle – widely available and highly forgettable – Len knew that whoever was driving had to have something to do with this. Len slouched down to watch as two men dressed in black got out. They weren’t firemen, and they definitely weren’t cops, but Len had a feeling that they were here to lend a hand.
They stood in front of their car and watched the building burn. Len watched, too, wondering where Barry was. Did he get everyone out? Was he doing one final sweep? Did he notice the men pull up and decide to lay low, wait to see what they’d do?
Was he stuck inside, in some sort of trouble?
“Seems to be flaming up pretty nicely,” the first man said with a self-satisfied chuckle.
“Yeah,” his cohort agreed. “But it’s gonna take a while to burn completely, ain’t it?”
“Yup.” The first man reached into his jacket and pulled a black package out of his pocket. “So why don’t we help it along?” He tossed the brick-shaped package overhand into the flames. Both men raced back and ducked behind their car. Len hit the deck as far down to the floor as he could.
He wasn’t sure what was about to happen, but when you’re on a sinking ship, you follow the rats.
Before Len could even consider Barry in all this, the building blew, walls crumbling, windows shattering, fire spitting out so hot Len could feel it through the sturdy metal doors of his own boosted Buick Skylark with the windows rolled up, parked some 50 feet away. Len didn’t know if there had been anyone left in that building, but the only person Len was even remotely worried about had been shot out a fourth floor window. With his head down, Len heard Barry hit the ground, an Oompf! of pain the last sound he made, but Len couldn’t look up right away to check on him. A second, more powerful explosion followed the first, this time shattering the windows of his car and spraying his bowed back with glass.
“Jesus Christ!” one of the men crowed. He yelled something else that Len couldn’t hear over the ringing in his ears. But when something close to words started to penetrate his brain again, Len made out the words “… think it’s The Flash.”
“It is The Flash,” Len heard, the words accompanied by the crunching of glass and the kicking of rubble as the men walked the distance from their car to Barry’s body. “Do you think he’s dead?”
“I don’t know. That was some killer fall he took.”
“Well, he ain’t moving.”
Len held his breath. He’d seen Barry take a hit before. Hell, Len had shot him before. And each time, Barry recovered, gotten to his feet and fought back. But from the sounds of it, Barry wasn’t this time. Len didn’t know if it was a part of some elaborate plan on Barry’s part, or because he couldn’t. But his friends would know. They monitor his every move. Where the hell was the S.T.A.R. Labs van? Where was Caitlin and Cisco and Joe to save the day?
“Hey! Wanna make this a double payday?”
“Whaddya mean?”
“Let’s check under the mask. Find out who this Flash character really is. That’s gotta be worth somethin’ to someone, right?”
That was the point when Len knew Barry needed him. Not Caitlin or Cisco, not the police or the fire department. Him. Leonard Snart.
Besides, the only criminal in Central City who knew who The Flash really was was Leonard Snart, and Len refused to share that franchise.
Len climbed off the floor and got out of his car just as the two men started crouching down. The first man, the man who had thrown what Len guessed was some kind of explosive into the burning building, was fingering the edge of Barry’s mask when Len called out, “Hey!” By the time they turned around, Len had his gun powered up and raised. “No peeking.”
It wasn’t one of his best quips. His powers of snark weren’t as strong as Barry’s. But at least the men didn’t get the chance to clap back.
Len froze them both where they stood.
Len didn’t run over to Barry right away. He watched, waiting for him to spring up off the ground and zoom away like he usually did, but this time, Barry wasn’t moving. With the two men frozen stiff beside him, Len couldn’t even tell if Barry was breathing.
“Shit!” Len hurried across the debris-strewn asphalt. He still didn’t know why emergency vehicles were nowhere to be seen, but Len had to assume they would arrive any time. He had to move quick before anyone actually got it into their thick skulls to show up. “Barry!” Len hissed as he got closer. “Barry, are you alright? Barry! Why aren’t you getting up, Barry?”
Len heard more crunching of glass and gravel before he saw Barry’s head move. “Snart?”
“Yeah, it’s me,” Len replied, trying not to sound relieved. “That’s quite some fall you took there. How ya feelin’?”
Barry looked up at Len with an unfocused, squinty stare. “Peachy.”
Len laughed at having his own sarcastic remark thrown back at him. “Seriously. What’s the deal? I thought you were indestructible.”
“Well, there’s a first time for everything, isn’t there?”
“You think anything’s broken?” Len asked, eager to get a move on.
“No. I … I don’t think so.” Barry tried to sit up, but after raising his torso about an inch off the ground, he gave up and settled back down. “Did you do this?”
“Sadly no. Not this time. But I’m here to help you.”
Barry’s total confusion was almost more painful to look at than the black and blues blossoming across his face. “Why?”
“Don’t know. I think it has something to do with that face you make when you realize that you owe me.” Barry’s face scrunches, and Len points. “There it is. That’s the face. Now, come on, Flash. Let’s get you outta here. You need medical attention. You look pretty banged up.”
“No,” Barry said, giving Len no assistance whatsoever when the man tried to help him to his feet. Though, to be fair, he’d just been thrown from a burning building and landed on his spine. “Just leave me here.”
“Now why would you want me to do that?”
“It hurts less.”
“No dice. I don’t know where the cops are, but I’m here. I might as well get you out of harm’s way.” Len took off his parka and wrapped Barry up in it, not just to keep him warm, but to shield him from prying eyes, both good and bad.

“Let it go, Barry.” Len smirked, carrying Barry to his waiting car. “Just let it go.”

15 TO WATCH/5 SPORTS TECH/POWER OF SPORTS 5: RICK HORROW’S TOP SPORTS/BIZ/TECH/PHILANTHROPY ISSUES FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 5
with Jacob Aere
Rick remembers Nick Buoniconti. When I was in junior high school and high school, I worshiped #85 middle linebacker Nick Buoniconti as the linchpin of the undefeated 1972 Super Bowl champion Miami Dolphins. After graduating Harvard Law School, I came back to South Florida ready to embark on a sports career. Unfortunately, other than the Dolphins, no major league sports were to be had. I was working with a commercial law firm in Miami, but my dream was to help bring the next set of sports franchises to South Florida. Nick was an established practicing lawyer in Miami, having studied by night at Suffolk Law School while playing for the then Boston Patriots. After meeting him, it became obvious that I wanted to work with him. We agreed that I would work with him and Dolphins owner Joe Robbie to create the first Miami Sports Authority and work to bring other pro sports to South Florida. Nick was my original legal mentor in Miami. His vision, understanding, and mixture of outward toughness and inner compassion would never be forgotten. It was amazing when he announced that he would donate his brain to science two years ago for CTE study; even more amazing that he was known for so many other things beyond football.  I treasured the time with him, and will always honor his legacy.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday night at Tom Benson Stadium inducted the "eight newest enshrinees" as part of the Class of 2019. This year's ceremony formally enshrined Champ Bailey, Tony Gonzalez, Ed Reed, Ty Law, Kevin Mawae, Pat Bowlen, Gil Brandt, and Johnny Robinson. As ESPN noted, almost everyone who stepped to the podium "battled, unsuccessfully and happily, to fight back tears, and all struggled mightily to thank those who had significant impacts on their lives, on and off the field, as each feared leaving someone out. But the spotlight on these players will continue to shine for the foreseeable future -- according to JohnWallStreet, enshrinement can extend Hall of Fame inductees’ commercial viability and marketing opportunities by more than 50%. For most NFL players, retirement means the end of lucrative marketing opportunities, but Hall of Fame inductees can find that a six (or seven) figure career awaits. The NFL’s gold jacket represents the “gold standard” for pro football players – it also ensures an extension of the athletes’ commercial viability and immediately enhances their consumer marketability.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame will "expand the number of potential inductees to 20" in 2020 as "part of the NFL’s celebration of its 100th season." Hall of Fame President and Sport Business Handbook Contributor David Baker told the Associated Press and assembled media that "five modern-day players, 10 seniors, three contributors and two coaches could be elected next year." The modern-day group "would be decided by the 48 selection committee voters, as always, on the day before the Super Bowl in February." Meanwhile, the other 15 potential inductees "would be voted on as one bloc, not individually, by the selection committee." They "would be chosen by a 25-member committee that will include Hall of Famers, historians and current voters." Part of the 2020 class would then be "inducted in early August," as is tradition, while the others "would be enshrined about September 17, 2020, the date that marks 100 years from the original NFL game." The mega-enshrinement is only one of a huge slate of commemorative events the NFL has planned to celebrate its centennial.
The cost to attend an NFL game has gone up astronomically over the last decade. As NFL fans prepare to enjoy a full schedule of preseason action this week, ticket prices alone jumped nearly 40% across all the NFL stadiums – the good ones and the bad – from 2008 to 2018, according to data from Team Marketing Report. Today, you'll spend close to $200 per person to see a game at the priciest pro football meccas, say researchers at the University of California, Berkeley. Their fan cost calculations factor in ticket prices, parking, and what you pay for one beer plus one hot dog. Here are the five most expensive NFL stadiums for fans, using numbers from the study. At No. 5 is Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, average fan cost: $181.98. No. 4 is Levi’s Stadium, the 49ers’ home, average fan cost: $191.50. No. 3 is the Washington Redskins’ FedEx Field, average fan cost: $192.02. At No. 2, Soldier Field in Chicago, average fan cost: $195.15. And coming in at No. 1: AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Despite Jerry World having pioneered the SRO concept in stadiums, the average fan cost there is $199.20.
Ninja left Twitch for Mixer. Pro gamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins has "left Twitch and is taking his video game live streams to Microsoft’s Mixer platform, a stunning switch that could have wide-ranging consequences" for the esports industry, according to the Associated Press. The move ends a "hugely profitable partnership with Twitch." Blevins has "earned millions broadcasting himself playing Fortnite and other video games on Twitch and YouTube," and he has "over 14 million followers on Twitch." Blevins hosted his first Mixer live stream Friday from the Lollapalooza annual music festival in Chicago. While Blevins said that he "will not actively recruit other gamers," if more streamers "follow him to Mixer, it could become a legitimate competitor in a market dominated by Twitch." Mixer launched in 2016 but "hasn’t nearly matched Twitch’s popularity" -- Microsoft "reported 10 million monthly users last year, compared to well over 100 million for Twitch," which launched in 2011. According to Ninja's management company, "the decision was overwhelmingly not driven by the monetary value," but rather the “opportunity to attract new viewers.” It's almost impossible not to believe that Team Ninja didn't see huge dollar signs in the Mixer.
Brooks Koepka is smiling all the way to the bank. The four-time major champion picked up his third non-major victory on the PGA Tour at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, but the cash windfall the victory brought with it was perhaps more impressive than his three-shot victory. According to Swing U Clubhouse, the added bonuses that Koepka has accrued culminating with this victory could make a PGA Tour player’s career. In Memphis, Koepka earned a $1.75 million paycheck, but his win also earned him 550 FedEx Cup points, which with only one event left in the regular season — last week’s Wyndham Championship, worth 500 FedEx Cup points to the winner — solidified his spot atop the regular-season standings. As a result, the Tour’s new regular season payout structure, called the Wyndham Rewards, which gives the top-10 players in the FedEx Cup standings at the end of the season a bonus, was wrapped up a week ahead of time by Koepka. For that accomplishment, Koepka earned an additional $2 million. Last, and technically least, Koepka earned the $1 million Aon Risk-Reward Challenge, a competition that uses a scoring system to reward aggressive and well-executed play throughout the year.
A bill being introduced to the U.S. Congress would allow lawmakers to fire the USOPC's "entire board" and would "quadruple the money the federation provides to the U.S. Center for SafeSport." According to the Associated Press, the bipartisan bill, known as the Empowering Olympic and Amateur Athletes Act of 2019, "spurred by Larry Nassar's sex crimes and other mishandled abuse cases," is the "most far-reaching response to 18 months of outrage, investigations and recriminations." It would "increase athlete representation on the USOPC board" and other NGB boards from 20% to 33%, while making the USOPC and NGBs "legally responsible for not reporting sexual abuse or failing to take measures to prevent it." The measure is co-sponsored by U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.). Blumenthal called the bill a "moment of reckoning" and believes it demonstrates Congress' willingness to create a "seismic cultural shift" in the protection of athletes from abuse, per the New York Times.
An 18-month Senate investigation has found that the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee and USA Gymnastics "knowingly concealed" the sexual abuse of gymnasts by a team doctor, the New York Times reports. "The investigation described “alarming and dysfunctional systems” that allowed emotional, physical and sexual abuse to persist in sports like gymnastics, swimming, figure skating and taekwondo." As a result of the investigation, the Empowering Olympic and Amateur Athletes Act of 2019 would not only create accountability, but establish procedures -- the USOPC would be required to provide more oversight of governing bodies, while also establishing clear procedures to report abuse; and increase congressional oversight. The bill gives Congress authority to dissolve the board of the USOPC and decertify national governing bodies should they fail to protect athletes. It will also fund nonprofit work: the USOPC currently pays $3.1 million per year to SafeSport, a nonprofit that investigates sexual misconduct in Olympic sports. This bill would require them to pay $20 million annually, instead.
Under Armour sees North American market share slip. Under Armour last week reported "mixed" second quarter earnings, while it "updated its outlook for the full year and now expects sales in North America to decline slightly." Previously, it "expected revenue on its home turf to be 'relatively flat'" in 2019. But Under Armour has been "struggling to keep pace with rivals Nike, Lululemon, and Adidas in the U.S." Overall, CNBC reports, revenue was $1.192 billion, compared to $1.199 billion expected. UA reported a "narrower net loss" of $17.3 million compared to a loss of $95.5 million in the year-ago period. North American sales fell 3% to $816 million in the second quarter. UA has been "restructuring its operations to cut spending and inventories while reducing promotions as it struggles to keep its market share" in the United States. In the meantime, UA founder and CEO Kevin Plank went to bat for Baltimore, his hometown and UA headquarters, and for embattled Maryland Congressman Elijah Cummings.
After making a steady stream of strategic investments in the industry, Foot Locker is launching a sneaker-focused design incubator that it has been secretly building for the past few months. According to Hashtag Sports, Foot Locker’s plan for sneaker domination is “Greenhouse.” The plan is for it to be a separate unit designed to gather insight about the current state of the sneaker industry to better respond to sneakerheads. Greenhouse will also offer services to other sneaker brands in the industry. Foot Locker has been quickly expanding its reach over the last year through a series of investments. All of this allows Foot Locker to diversify its revenue stream while keeping its finger on the pulse of diverse and remote parts of the activewear and sneaker industries. Long a reliable mall tenant, Foot Locker has struggled mightily as America has abandoned the mall to do its shopping online. Putting a new shoe concept on an old sporting goods brand can only help.
The Clippers have unveiled renderings for their new sports and entertainment center in Inglewood. Projected to cost $1 billion, as well as serve as the new home for the NBA franchise, it will include the team’s business and basketball operations, training facility, community and retail spaces. The 18,000-seat Inglewood Basketball and Entertainment Center features a three-dimensional oval design with an exterior made up of diamond-shaped metal panels apparently inspired by the concept of a basketball swishing through a net. As well as aesthetics, the panels will have solar power capabilities, with the Clippers’ new campus aiming for net zero greenhouse gas emissions through carbon offset credits and sustainable design features. With plans for the Inglewood project now moving ahead, the Clippers have been quick to champion the benefits of the new build. According to their statement, the complex, when completed, will generate an estimated $268 million in economic activity for Inglewood annually, and more than $190 million in new tax revenue from 2020-2045. That revenue will help support city services such as schools, parks, libraries, and emergency services.
Wanda Sports Group (WSG), the sporting arm of the Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group, raised $190.4 million in a smaller-than-expected U.S. IPO on July 26. According to JohnWallStreet, WSG priced shares at $8 (below a previously reduced $9-$11 target), valuing the company at around $1 billion. The share price declined -35.5% (to $5.16) on the first day of trading and has continued to slide since. The company's debt-laden balance sheet and a geopolitical climate that has U.S. investors hesitant to invest in Chinese businesses explain why WSG had the second-worst debut of 2019. (The worst IPO of the year was held by another Chinese corporation, Ruhnn Holding.) WSG had initially set out to raise $500 million. Two days prior to the IPO, the company lowered their target to $308 million, so selling less than $200 million worth of shares must be considered a disappointment. Missing the company’s target by 60%, and then watching the share price immediately plunge another 39%, would indicate that WSG either lacks an understanding of the U.S. marketplace or the leadership to pivot when it was determined that the market was too soft for the product.
Kraft Heinz is "highly unlikely" to renew its stadium naming rights deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers when the existing contract expires in 2021, according to SportsBusiness Journal. The 68,000-seat venue has been known as Heinz Field since opening in 2001, but SBJ claims "no one across the naming rights industry" expects the company’s name to be attached to the stadium beyond the current deal. Kraft Heinz is now headquartered in Chicago following its 2015 merger with Kraft Foods Group. The original 20-year deal signed by the Steelers and Heinz was reported to be worth $57 million, working out at $2.85 million each year. Teams in similar markets to Pittsburgh bring in far more money than the Steelers per year. The Philadelphia Eagles, for example, signed a 14-year renewal in May with Lincoln Financial Group worth a reported $167 million, providing the franchise with approximately $12 million per year. Meanwhile, personal finance company SoFi’s rumored deal with the new Los Angeles stadium for the Chargers and Rams will apparently see the firm pay $20 million annually over 20 years. Amid skyrocketing naming rights fees, Kraft Heinz has apparently decided to throw in the Terrible Towel.
FIFA contemplates leaving Switzerland. According to the New York Times, senior executives at FIFA, the world’s governing soccer body, are seriously considering leaving Switzerland, the organization’s home for nearly 90 years. Under current president Gianni Infantino, FIFA has tried to move away from its past, especially the allegedly corrupt reign of past president Sepp Blatter. The discussion surrounding leaving Zurich is driven by many factors, but high on the list are difficulties in hiring staff members from outside the EU and “an acceptance that continuing to base its operations in a country with a reputation for corporate secrecy might not align with the goals of an organization trying to win back the public trust.” Plans could include leaving Zurich entirely or opening subsidiary offices in other parts of the world “to give it better access to, and oversight of, its 211 member associations.” The organization’s current headquarters, known as FIFA House, was completed in 2007 at a cost of over $200 million.
Phillies suing Phanatic creator to keep rights to mascot. According to the Philadelphia Enquirer, in a federal lawsuit filed last Friday in U.S. District Court in New York, the Philadelphia Phillies "accused Harrison/Erickson Inc., the creators and designers of the Phillie Phanatic, of threatening to withdraw" from their 1984 agreement to "let the Phillies use the mascot 'forever.'" According to the lawsuit, the designers have "threatened to obtain an injunction against the Phillies' use of the Phanatic" and "make the Phanatic a free agent." The lawsuit alleges if the Phillies "do not renegotiate with the mascot's creators and pay them 'millions of dollars,'" the designers will sell the rights to the Phanatic to another sports team. The Phillies "initially paid $215,000 for rights to the Phanatic" in 1984. Reuters added that the designers have "threatened to end" the Phillies' use of the Phanatic by next June. No word on whether Gritty, the nearby Flyers' googly-eyed orange mascot, was spotted in the district courthouse taking notes.
 Top Five Tech
Sentinels player Kyle “Bugda” Giersdorf is the first winner of the Fortnite World Cup Finals. The 16-year-old bagged the $3 million grand prize at Arthur Ashe stadium in Queens, with $30 million being awarded overall to competitors at the event. Audiences tuned in massively, with Esports Charts reporting that the final round drew peak viewership of 2.3 million across the various platforms running the event, with 22.5 million hours watched overall. According to Dexterto, it has set the bar higher for esports tournaments being broadcast on Twitch, as 1.3 million concurrent viewers is the new Twitch record for an esports event, beating out CS:GO's ELEAGUE Boston Major 1.15 million and League of Legends’ peak of 1.14 million. Other platforms carrying the tournament were YouTube, Mixer, Twitter, and in-game on Fortnite. This event proves that Fortnite can be taken seriously in the competitive gaming scene and should have a future in esports.
EA's Madden NFL esports championship gets ad backing from Snickers and Pizza Hut. The Madden NFL 20 Championship Series this year has open registration to draw the greatest number of esports competitors in its history. So far, Pizza Hut is the first brand to win naming rights to a virtual football stadium, while Snickers will return as an official sponsor of EA's Madden NFL (MCS) esports tournament. According to Marketing Dive, the esports dates will be synchronized with the NFL kickoff from August 30 to September 1. After that, MCS events will happen during key NFL moments, including the Madden NFL 20 Club Championship on December 18-21 before the playoffs and the Madden NFL 20 Challenge from January 30 to February 1 before the Super Bowl. The series concludes at the Madden NFL 20 Bowl, which coincides with the NFL Draft April 23-25, when 16 top players will vie for the Madden NFL championship title. The Madden NFL 20 Classic will air on the Madden NFL Twitch and YouTube channels. This is the first time a brand will have full naming rights to a virtual stadium, which shows the full dive brands are making into esports.
Online sports news site, The Athletic, hits 500,000 subscribers. The Athletic, a sports-news subscription service that launched in 2016, expects to nearly double its subscription total by the year end. Based in San Francisco, the platform is an ad-free, online-only network for local sports coverage. Subscriptions cost $10 a month or $60 a year, though many customers have signed up at lower promotional rates. The Athletic has expanded to nearly 50 cities in the U.S. and Canada and hired hundreds of sports reporters and editors, often from local newspapers. According to Bloomberg, it covers roughly 270 teams from the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and college sports. The company is also looking to introduce coverage of English Premier League soccer teams this month. Hiring in preparation for that launch has caused a stir in U.K. newsrooms. The site is a test for the digital-subscription model in journalism and backers have provided more than $90 million in funding. It doesn’t seem the rising media entity will slow down anytime soon.
Tokyo 2020 is set to be the first multi-platform Olympic Games. According to Digiday, thousands of streams and video replays will be available to viewers on a variety of devices, dramatically expanding upon the number of contextual targeting opportunities for brands and the athletes they sponsor. Rather than be an Official Olympic brand, some may opt to place themselves adjacent to the news, commentary, and pictures about the latest events. Tokyo is thirteen hours ahead of the U.S., and a massive portion of U.S. viewing will inevitably be of the time-shifted, digital variety. In the four years since the last summer Games, digital viewing has become dominant. Digital delivery will allow marketers to address their ads not simply on audience demographics, but also contextually. Although Rio 2016 may have been a disappointment for Olympics advertisers, tech-savvy brands will ensure Tokyo 2020 is highly profitable.
New Orleans Pelicans rookie and basketball sensation Zion Williamson has signed a multi-year partnership deal with NBA2K. According to Clutchpoints, the former No. 1 overall pick will be integrated in various game initiatives, consumer events, brand creative, and social activations. He joins an elite list of players with similar deals including LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, and James Harden, as well as NBA legends Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal. Williamson says that he has played the game his whole life and that it is an honor to be part of the 2K team. The 19-year-old South Carolina native made 33 appearances in his lone season with the Duke Blue Devils, racking up averages of 22.6 points on 68% shooting from the field (33.8% from beyond the arc), 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.8 blocks in 30 minutes per outing. This is a big business step for the Pelicans and Williamson, who is in the midst of legal battles with a sports marketing company that tried to sue him after he tried to void their contract.
Power of Sports Five
Fields & Futures upgrades school athletic fields, builds futsal courts. Behind F.D. Moon Middle School in Oklahoma City sits an empty excavated field and a slab of concrete. But according to the Oklahoman, Fields & Futures President Tim McLaughlin, co-owner of OKC Energy FC, sees a space rich with possibilities. This summer, the nonprofit organization is renovating fields at seven middle schools, all affected by consolidations across the Oklahoma City school district. Some of the facilities are former elementary schools reconfigured to serve fifth through eighth grade, an age group that needs on-site athletic facilities. The concrete slab behind F.D. Moon will become a futsal pad, where athletes can play a compressed version of soccer that emphasizes footwork and ball control. Soon, every middle school in the Oklahoma City district will have one, resulting from a Fields & Futures partnership with the U.S. Soccer Foundation, Musco Lighting, 7-Eleven, and the Energy Assist Foundation. The cost to install 10 of these “mini pitches” exceeds $500,000. “Soccer’s the world’s largest sport,” McLaughlin told The Oklahoman. “It’s also one of the biggest unifying sports there are.”
Penguins working with AbleGamers to bring hockey and esports to all. A series of connections brought about by video gaming started in May when the Penguins, Cavs Legion, and the Pittsburgh Knights partnered with Point Park University to host an esports event that led to a meeting between the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and AbleGamers. In preparation for the event, called the Steel City Showdown, Point Park University's Steve Tanzilli came across The AbleGamers Charity and their COO and Pittsburgh native Steve Spohn. Tanzilli was so impressed by Spohn that he reached out to the Penguins and their Foundation. AbleGamers Charity is a nonprofit that wields the power of gaming to break down barriers of economic and social isolation for children, adults, and veterans with disabilities. With a combination of technologies such as mouth controllers, eye gaze, and customized controllers, they find a way for people to play video games no matter their disability. After the tournament concluded, the Penguins Foundation donated $25,000 to AbleGamers and made a commitment to help them continue their mission.
Kevin Durant's San Francisco parting gift combines art, basketball. As the 10-time All-Star Kevin Durant heads to Brooklyn, he wanted to make sure his name was still going to be associated with the Bay Area by leaving a renovated basketball court at the Hayes Valley Playground in San Francisco. Last week, San Francisco Recreation and Park celebrated the reopening of the Hayes Valley Playground at Buchanan and Hayes streets, a renovation partially funded by Durant's charity as well as Joe Gebbia, one of the founders of Airbnb, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Local artist Apexer worked with Vintage Contractors to create this masterpiece, which held a lot of detail, including special paint and the right colors for the surface. Durant founded his KDCF (Kevin Durant Charity Foundation) to "enrich the lives of at-risk youth from low-income backgrounds through educational, athletic, and social programs." This latest collaboration clearly meets that goal.
Bryant family makes record $13 million commitment to UCF Athletics. Gary and Barbara Bryant recently made the largest gift commitment in the history of UCF athletics. According to the Space Coast Daily, once funded, their $13 million estate gift commitment will establish the Gary and Barbara Bryant Family Athletic Endowed Scholarship Fund. Annual proceeds from the endowment will provide athletic scholarship support for both men’s and women’s student-athletes at UCF. “We appreciate Gary and Barbara’s investment in our educational and athletic mission at UCF,” says Danny White, UCF vice president and director of athletics. “Their family legacy at UCF will forever provide life-changing scholarship opportunities for hundreds of young men and women to pursue their academic, athletic and personal dreams through the student-athlete experience.” Added Gary Bryant, “Barbara and I have always participated in sports and believe in the transformational, door-opening value of a college education.” This is a terrific show of support for Orlando’s “Hometown Team.”
J.T. Brown finishes sixth at Fortnite Pro-Am, donates $75,000 prize to charity. J.T. Brown continues to use his Fortnite skill for good. The Minnesota Wild forward teamed up with pro gamer CLG Marksman to finish sixth at the Fortnite Pro-Am on Friday, winning a $75,000 prize to be donated to the charity of their choice. Brown is an avid gamer who played 24 consecutive hours on Twitch las year and raised more than $1,300 for Hockey Is For Everyone. After a self-described rough Game 3, Brown/Marksman registered 12 eliminations and a Victory Royale to clinch their finish in Game 4. Brown posted the highlights to his Instagram account and also shared his elation at the result after the event. Brown/Marksman was one of the 50 tandems vying for the $3 million charity prize, which went to record producer RL Grime and his partner Airwaks. The pro-am was one of the highlights of the Fortnite World Cup Finals, a three-day event at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York that attracted one hundred best players from around the globe.

We Can Make the World a Better Place, One Interaction at a Time
“Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.” ~Marcus Aurelius
Now more than ever, the world needs good people.
While driving home from a job interview the other day, I listened to Joe Rogan talking about how he treats strangers who act mean or hostile to him, for apparently no reason at all.
His modus operandi is essentially, “Let it go. You never know what kind of day the other person is having.”
This resonated with me exceptionally well. It’s one of the big things I’ve been focusing on in the latter half of 2017—being nice to people no matter what the scenario.
I consider myself an above average kind person. I’m always appreciative and friendly with servers at restaurants. I thank the pilot every time I walk off a flight (after all, for a few brief hours he is 100 percent in control of my life). And, I smile when greeted by a stranger.
But, I am beautifully flawed much like the rest. Occasionally, emotions get the best of me. When my ego gets offended, instead of acting with love and kindness, my gut reaction turns to anger and “how dare he!”
I’ve practiced being a good human being for as long as I can remember. Now, I’m determined to keep that persona, regardless of the situation.
My Dance with the Devil
A few short weeks ago, I just so happened to be in a scenario that tested my new philosophy.
It may shock you when I say that I was driving a vehicle when this happened. Road rage is so uncommon these days, right?
Anyways, my fiancé and I had just pulled into the parking lot of the Target a few minutes down the road. We were in a hurry to travel to her parents’ place in the mountains, kicking off a relaxing weekend away from home.
The plan was to drop her off at the front then park the car. We were just stopping in for coffee and a few little things for our journey.
As I pulled up to the pedestrian crosswalk, the mega-sized truck in front of me slammed on its brakes, forcing me to do the same.
Instinctively, I threw my right arm in front of my fiancé while simultaneously blurting out an expletive. In the blink of an eye, my anxiety went from a one to an eight.
I looked around to find the cause for his sudden stop, but I saw nothing. No pedestrians. No other cars (besides me). No stray animals.
As the truck turned left and the driver came into clear view, I did something that immediately made me feel like a bad person: I flipped him the middle finger.
Making the World a Better Place, One Interaction at a Time
With all the hate, corruption, violence, and bullying that goes on in the world, why add more fuel to the fire?
Did I really need to flick that guy driving the truck off? I mean, what if he had just gotten a phone call that shook his world? My ignorant act of hatred might be the exact opposite of what that guy needed in that moment.
As Joe Rogan and many other individuals wiser than me would say, you never really know what kind of day that person is having.
I felt terrible for doing it. I still feel bad about it, but I know I need to move on. In quite literally a millisecond of weakness, I slipped up.
We all have egos that demand people treat us with respect. When the ego gets bruised, it’s extremely important to take a brief moment to respond rather than react.
The world doesn’t need more hate. It needs more love, compassion, and kindness.
Who cares if the other person was mean to you. That’s not your fault; it’s actually theirs. It’s not a reflection of who you are as a human being, it’s likely something going on in their life. That person might be the happiest, most loving individual on the planet and could just be having the worst day ever.
By choosing to respond with kindness, you make the world a better place. Maybe that person realizes the err of his ways. Maybe he doesn’t. It really doesn’t matter.
What matters is that you took on an act of unkindness and refused to give it more power.
You want to improve the world we live in? Don’t focus on solving world peace, global hunger, or stopping corrupt politicians. Instead, focus on the day to day interactions you have with everyone around you.
Just imagine if all the rest of us would do the same.
How I Started Being Better
Being someone who responds to hate in a loving way is by no means a simple task. Your ego will want to defend itself, and you will find yourself reacting poorly, like I did.
There were a few things I started doing that helped make me a better person, but one thing stood above them all. Practicing mindfulness, primarily through meditation, was the game-changer for me.
Mindfulness gives you the extra “pause” you need in your life to properly defuse those tricky situations.
It’s not really something that can be explained, but you’ll know what I’m talking about when you begin your own practice.
My experience with meditation has always been a rollercoaster, practicing consistently at times and falling off the wagon at others. But now, I’ve made it a point to meditate every day.
Among plenty of other benefits, it makes me a better person, and that’s something I’ll never take for granted again.

hallmarks of the modern day malignant narcissist
Tumblr media
I have written about this before. but here are some fresh and refined points for you.
I use the word malignant here, because there are obviously various degrees of narcissism. I think the word narcissist has been over-used, misused, and unfortunately diluted in terms of importance. and understanding the hallmarks of a malignant narcissist is, indeed, important for many.
those most penetrable and impacted by a malignant narcissist are those who 1) are vulnerable — they need something. money, a friend, or some kind of support. they may range from vulnerable to desperate also depending upon the circumstances in their life at a given time. 2) have been abused in the past. grown adults, who come from abusive situations or family dynamics, are more susceptible to having their reality distorted. a malignant narcissist can spot this MILES away, and use it to their advantage. for one example, if the narcissist is a man and he spots and knows of a female with serious father issues (absent, never in the picture, abusive), he will pounce and try to assume part of that “role” to go undercover — all the while with serious motives. he need not even date her. he may pay for her lifestyle (so that she can never leave him, so that he always has an unwitting ally aka unwitting participant in his schemes).
a malignant narcissist almost always comes from a very abusive past. sociopathy and mental illness usually work in tandem here. they may refuse to speak about it, or act like things were perfect growing up. they do not want you to have any information about them, so that they can shape-shift in and out of your life seamlessly. if you do think they had a great childhood or that they have many friends or healthy relationships, you will never meet them. they keep everyone at bay unless they are plotting some disaster (so that they can save the day and blame someone else). and contrary to popular belief, malignant narcissists are not always class president or the CEO – malignant narcissists are often so aware of their darkness that they work in the dark to grab the light. they will be seen — only to a degree. you might question why, with all of their talent, they are not further along — inside, they really do not want to be. the threat of exposure is too great. and so they will never let anyone else take the reins, or collaborate, which is needed to expand personally and professionally. they are always in control.
I am not puling info from other sites or people on this post, this is born from my own experience through my extensive work with humans and the human condition, and my own unfortunate but thankfully very brief experience with malignant narcissists. please note here, I am not talking about mainstream narcissists, I am talking about the most severe – those, by the way, go the most undetected. a malignant narcissist as I refer to here is different from a regular Joe or Jane narcissist, because their strategies are extremely elaborate and their takings are grand – far grander than your average narcissistic human.
the hallmarks of the modern-day malignant narcissist:
they always have a story that makes you feel bad for them. it could be as simple as “my spouse or job is abusive, but I can’t leave”. then, you will find yourself building them up, trying to support them emotionally and otherwise, thinking they need it. they don’t. and believe me, they are getting things out of that horrible spouse or horrible job. malignant narcs ALWAYS get something out of nothing.
they will groom you. of course they do not jump right out and show you who they are. they never, ever want that to be the case. so they reel you in. the flatter you. they offer you things that you can’t find a reason there would be anything negative attached to. by the way, this is a horrible boundary for a healthy human – healthy humans do not go over the top to win over other healthy people. this grooming period might be the honeymoon phase in either a romantic or work relationship. as they are grooming, they are scheming.
children are important to them. children carry the highest vibrational energy. the malignant narc may not have their own children, but they will be involved in some way, with children — either caring for yours, or, pedophilia or child-porn. there will be odd connections or some connections to children.
they do not have close relationships unless they control the person with money or “gifts” or promises. they offer something for nothing. it seems unconditional. it never is. the average person may be overwhelmed by their kindness. this, of course, is backed up by their non-stop sob stories that make you feel bad for them or sensitive toward them.
they get to know your weaknesses, and then they try to plant seeds to question yourself. this is where your background comes in — how far along are you in your personal healing to know the difference between good and bad boundaries?
they are puppet masters. they LOVE to cause drama. they live for it. but, they do not show their cards in that arena. instead, they gather groups of people only so they can destroy them later. since everyone they tend to gather is susceptible to their games, they are too weak to see the truth and will often turn on each other. they don’t know any better.
they are extremely weird with money. they pretend to have no attachment to it. however, it’s the one thing they care most about. their desire to appear humble is an agenda. often times they are flat broke because they are supporting other people in some way — to control them or gain something from them. since a malignant narc can NOT form real relationships, they must either buy them or manipulate them. those without a moral compass of their own are easy prey, because they think they are getting a “deal” from the malignant narc. the joke is always on the person with no moral compass or a weak one.
they desire to build and destroy things so that they can catch you when you fall. whether it is planting seeds, bringing in destructive people in your life to then save you from them, or something else, the motivation is to ALWAYS look like the hero. the one who you can confide in when it all falls apart. except, it was designed to fall apart.
they will always give different versions of the same story to different people. it just depends upon who is listening. if you talk with others who are mutually acquainted with the malignant narc (by the way, they rarely have long-term relationships, they do not last, as they always back off when they are about to be exposed and move on to new prey), things will not line up. facts will not ever match. but, again, if you have weak or no boundaries or struggle with your own history of abuse, you will not care. you will crave the seemingly good-hearted, giving and manipulative malignant narc’s explanations and smear campaigns of anyone who has started to figure them out.
they occasionally slip up — meaning, they occasionally choose the wrong person to try to manipulate. they confuse kindness with weakness on a large-scale. typically their spidey senses are strong enough as to where they do just choose weak people. but on a rare occasion, they encounter the unfortunate experience of crossing the wrong person. as they encroach upon exposure, they will either disappear completely, change their path, or work extra hard to snuff out the truth.
they are often fascinated by the metaphysical (because they possess no real power of their own). I once met a malignant narc who was SO intelligent. they had the education, they had worked for a big 5, yet they had all of the hallmarks above. they had formed an entire fake company pro bono whose donations went to THEM to fund this fake company. there were people from MIT and Harvard on board this fake enterprise. I was the first one out. it was FASCINATING to watch this person lie to themselves and others (keep in mind, we don’t have to be stupid or weak to fall prey. and if we are not, we will begin to see through the person. and this is also when they change gears — fast the person I refer to here left the country for good). and, back to my original point, they were absolutely fascinated with “magic” and “power” and the metaphysical. it was surprising to me, given their formal education and background and nerdy appearance. but, I work in an intangible realm and so they were a magnet to me. they wanted to figure out my inner power, which is only actually truth. and the ultimate power comes from truth. the ultimate force comes from the opposite.
a malignant narcissist will take everything from you. that is their desire and core motivation as they have NO CORE. you will be shocked and then left wondering how you could have missed the signs, how this possibly could have happened. it happened because they puppeteered your reality and with falsehood from the moment they met you. everyone around them has a different version of their reality and the truth, and so the aftermath (after they have taken everything they can from you) is devastating.
I hope this is helpful to anyone even questioning a situation. the thing is, if you are questioning it even 1%, you are right. it’s just likely that you have to admit OTHER things in accordance with seeing through the veil of illusion of the malignant narc.
it may take some time and stress if you are caught in a web of a malignant narc, but believe me — once you see through it, you will never be indefinitely stuck in another one. once you rise from a situation like this, your personal power grows 3-fold.
much love to anyone caught in the above, and good luck! just be honest with yourself – that is the real crux of the dissolution.
