watched the new book thief musical tonight. oh my life. what a gorgeous gorgeous piece of art. I can't wait for it to become an international phenomenon. so grateful God has kept me alive to see it oh my
friendly reminder that normal is a myth. everyone has issues they're dealing with. and there's a place you need to go, where you belong. where the things that make you different, are the things that make you special. special like your father, yes percy you are special. like food the colour blue, all the things that make you you, are the things that will make you strong. so be strong 🫶🫶
I am of the personal opinion that out of all the adaptations of PJO. INCLUDING THE ONE THE AUTHOR WROTE. The most accurate, true to the story, and entertaining one is, in fact, the musical.
Like c’mon Luke’s Reprise of Good Kid? Normal is a Myth? The Di Angelo Sibling Cameo? Hades being the most homo man to exist??? GOOD KID??
All of Charon’s song is iconic. MY GRAND PLAN???? THE CAMPFIRE SONG?? LOST! ???
Luke’s Song makes me want to cry it gets the essence of his character while still making him sound INSANE. Everyone is characterized to be themselves and funny at the same time. INCLUDING ANNABETH.
And the characters can be played by ANYBODY!!
THE ICONIC QUOTES:
Poseidon *pointing happy*: It’s a seashell
Percy *to the audience*: like I said…weird
-
Hades: And WHYYY…WOUUULD…IIII…WHANT…THAHAT???
-
Bianca(?): Why me and my brother got here just yesterday!! May 1st…
The Gang: Oh
Bianca(?): 1939
Percy: Uh…we can sleep on the road instead!!!
-
Chiron *to himself* Hmmm…well…it could be…the prophecy does state….
Chiron *to Percy*: BUUUUuut I’m sure it’s nothing, have a nice day Percy. *happily trots away*
-
Annabeth: Sexist much??
Percy: Oh no, I love girls… I think they’re very nice.😄
ok but watching my friends guess who the lightning thief is. like bro I swear chiron took the bolt, no dude it was for sure hades! this is about to be so funny.
there's a rush of blood when you go this fast
when you're up against it, I got your back
they say that good things just don't last
but I'll say this
Behold my latest project! My beloved mutual @accidental-spice recommended this song to me, and I couldn't help but make a percabeth edit with it! Reblogs are appreciated, but please do not repost this video or reuse these clips in another video! I'll post a description of the video for those with screenreaders and my taglist under the cut!
The above video is of clips of Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase, mostly taken from the Disney+ Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, incorporated as follows:
'Cause we got this thing that I can't describe
[clip of Annabeth giving Percy her necklace, his eyes fixed on her]
Like I fell for you in another life
[two fanarts of Percy and Annabeth based on the books]
And I'd fall again a thousand times
[clip of Percy in TLT musical, taking Annabeth by the hand and twirling her]
And I mean it
[video showing two panels of Percy and Annabeth from TLT graphic novel]
yeah, I mean it

Every little fork in the road

Never feel my hand letting go

If I did, you know I'm running back
[clip of Percy taking Annabeth's place at the arch]
You and me, we got a love like
[clip of Percy looking up to see Annabeth protecting him from Luke]
Two names on a tree
[clip of Annabeth watching Percy get unstatued]
Sure as every breath that you breathe
[clip of Percy breathing heavily after being unstatued]
Every beat is like a heart attack
[clip of Percy and Annabeth smiling together at the arch]
You and me, we got a love like that
[clip of Annabeth fixing Percy's armor strap, then of her giving him a hug when he returns to Camp Half-Blood]
Love like that
[clip of Annabeth and Percy looking up at Hephaestus, then of her and him talking about what monsters they faced each day (like an old married couple)]
You and me, we got a love like that

One thing I've never seen adapted from book to acting is the story Sally told Percy about his dad.
All these retellings acting like they never talked about his dad before.
Tv Show: "Do you know why we always come to this cabin?"
"Because it's close to the septic tank?"
"No, it's because it's where I met your father."
Musical: "We're better off without him"
"No, I think it's time you learned more about him"
Film: "Percy, this is about your father."
"So, he did abandon us."
Book: Mom always took us to this cabin because it's where she met my dad. She didn't talk about him too much because it made her sad, but she told me he was rich and they had a secret relationship, but then he left and got lost at sea. Not dead, always 'lost at sea.' [...] Eventually I got curious enough to ask about my dad like I always did."
One thing I can appreciate from the books is they make this kid a little curious. All these adaptations act like they never spoke about him which... wouldn't happen.
I had the unique experience of learning about the pjo cast and having my first thought be, "But can they sing???" Because it had been yEars since I'd read a percy jackson book but only a few hours since I'd last listened to The Lightning Thief soundtrack.
rick riordan dickriders on here will be like "why are you complaining about the pjo tv show, go watch the movies and see what a bad adaptation really looks like" ok well listen to the musical watch it on youtube and see what a good adaptation looks like bitch. it can be done. as a fucking stage musical. what did that 15 million per episode do for disney that chris mccarell couldn't
