Through the rabbit hole

Long, lazy Sunday: I am late with the Persian analysis and I apologize to those who were waiting for it. However, I do have an excellent excuse: I found myself unexpectedly engrossed in - hallelujah! can I say hallelujah? - Drums of Autumn, once I finally managed to be done with the very laborious first two chapters.

I continue to find the modern timeline slightly better written than most of the French shenanigans, for reasons I have already explained (yes, it is fiction, but the underuse of that particular trope left me hungry and not in a good way). The 1969 Boston episode (Moon landing included) can easily and will probably be among my favorites: it is short, lively and she does not go overboard with pedantry. Also, to my great surprise (or maybe also because the SS&RR tandem is so cataclysmic in the series), Brianna & Roger are (possibly) way better sketched and, overall, more interesting and endearing in the books. Fun fact: in my mind, they don't even look like the Painful Duo. But J&C look as S&C and whoever tells you otherwise did not watch the series and/or lies.

Unpopular opinion and I will probably get strong reactions to this: book Claire is, at times, insufferable to me. There are (mercifully) fleeting moments when I hear and almost see a poor travesty of Herself in her. If there is one person in this Universe who was ever able to masterfully round those edges and elevate Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp Randall Fraser to legend, well: that is (and I suspect it could only be) C.

Conversely, I once read on a Mordor blog something as idiotically enormous as "Jamie Fraser is, we all know it, a brute and Claire is the only person making him look human". This is Hate 101, transferred from the guy you spew on all day long to the character that guy decisively shaped and gave a destiny to, on screen. Writing such inanities lacks culture, taste and empathy. Jamie Fraser is a brute because he protects his family, whatever the costs? Is he a brute with a deep appreciation for the Greek and Roman Classics? Is he a brute just because he happens to be imagined and given life to in the 18th century Scottish Highlands, a place and time you obviously have no familiarity with, spare these books? And what about the other feminine influences in Jamie's life, that shape his unique sensitivity and understanding of the emotional needs of a 20th century woman, such as Claire? What about Ellen, Jenny, hey even the tiny (blink and you'll miss her) Annalise (dreadful name, Herself) de Marillac? I really pity you, woman. Really do.

All in all, I have no idea about what happened in LAX, other than the kilt apotheosis and the subsequent drooling, fainting and yelling that accompanied it. I still saw many young women in that crowd and I am cautiously betting for less drama, this time. But I do wonder why *urv never shows up at any event in the area, when the effort would be, for her, minimal. Things that make you go hmmm, once again.

Okay so for my work I have to say

Memory Served and Court of Public Opinion (I'm combining these because CoPO is the sequel! It's darker than all my other work and full of fun twists and turns!)

Burnin' Up (I cannot put into words how much I love this series and I'm so sad it's coming to an end soon!)

Forgotten Lands AU (This is a newer one and there's not a lot there at the moment but I have so many ideas and I just loved diving into the world of fantasy!)

Fixer Upper (This one hit me out of nowhere and has taken me on a wild ride into the world of Mechanic!Curtis and I totally blame @sweater-daddiesdumbdork for my Curtis Obsession!)

As Long As You're Mine Pt 1 and 2 (I never expected I would write mob stuff because I very much live in the world of fluff and rainbows and all things happy, but I love this and I did struggle picking between this one and Nomad's Girl!)

@stargazingfangirl18 is the QUEEN of Smut and everyone should BOW DOWN! Necessary Arrangement is INCREDIBLE and I cannot wait to get my hands on the published version! I'm also so happy that she is back and I can fully dive into more of her work!

@drabblewithfrannybarnes has the BEST Hockey AU with all the faves! I don't think I could actually pick which one is my favourite! Also she's another fave of mine that has returned and I can feel nature healing!

REVIEW | "Hell's Paradise" | B3 - Boston Bastard Brigade

How far would you go to live a peaceful life? Would you travel to Hell and back just so that you can see your beloved again? Is death a far better option than stepping foot in a place no person has returned from? These thoughts spins through the mind of Gabimaru (Chiaki Kobayashi), a ninja who was originally put to death by Village Chief for wanting to sever his ties. But when master swordswoman Sagiri (Yumiri Hanamori) arrives with a pardon, it comes with a stipulation: seek eternal life in Hell’s Paradise, or suffer the consequences.

The latest series by MAPPA (Chainsaw Man, PUNCH LINE) and based on the manga by Yuji Kaku, Hell’s Paradisesends Gabimaru and a bunch of convicts to Shinsenkyo. On this island is said to be two things: the elixir of life and brutally impending death. With Sagiri keeping watch on Gabimaru, the two seek the key to immortality in order to earn that pardon. Because despite his “Hollow” nickname, all Gabimaru wants to do is spend the rest of his life by the side of his beautiful wife Yui (Mamako Noto), who also just so happens to be the eighth daughter of the Village Chief.

Gabimaru’s not the only one on this island, with other Death Row criminals aiming to earn their pardons. From the sultry Yuzuriha (Rie Takahashi) and the large brute Rokurota to the criminal and executioner brothers Aza & Toma (Ryohei Kimura & Kensho Ono), every person on this island has a reason to grab that elixir for themselves. Despite the level of danger these people all present, they pale in comparison to the biggest threat of all: the island itself. After all, there’s a reason why no one’s every returned alive from this place.

Hell’s Paradise takes its time with getting to the meat of the story. Its first episode solely focuses on Gabimaru, who is put through one execution after another. From burning him alive to a good ole decapitation, Gabimaru’s body & soul just won’t succumb to human hands. It’s kind of funny seeing everyone surrounding Gabimaru quiver in fear, with his will and strength making him appear invulnerable. Only when Sagiri appears with the pardon do we start seeing what the narrative has in store.

So I've made a very quick and dirty cheat sheet for the entire extant saga so far, published and drafted, with the contextual points of each for the kayfabe vs the fanfic.

I've tried to make this as short as possible for anyone who is enjoying the saga as written but still know that there are totally spoilers for unpublished stories here. That said, if you're wondering just what the thought process for the entire saga up to this point was, here you go.

Setup: Sami refuses to assist Jey Uso by hitting Kevin with a chair. This costs Jey his match. Story: Kevin finds Sami hiding after Jey attacked him and left him at the arena. He takes Sami back to his hotel room to care for him. Result: Kevin thinks things might be different

Setup: Sami is inducted as the Honorary Uce but begins to exhibit trauma response as a result Story: Kevin visits Sami again to watch TV. They argue but a power outage leads Kevin to spend the night and he has to help Sami through a traumatic nightmare about Jey Result: See part 5.

Setup (fanfic): Sami wakes up to find Kevin grinding on him in his sleep. Kevin wakes up soon afterward and flees, abandoning his spare key. Setup (kayfabe): Sami and Kevin have a sexually charged moment backstage on Smackdown Story: Sami convinces Kevin to have a one night stand after the show. Result: Kevin ghosts Sami online and disappears from WWE TV for a month and a half

Result: Sami decides not to cut his hair but doubles down on his resolve to stay with the Bloodline

You were nervous to ask this question but thought it best to go to them individually. Caspian was the first you were asking. You didn't know how he was going to react. You felt he'd react better than his brothers, but he's also much more mature than both of them.

"Hey, Junior can we talk for a minute ned to ask you something." He knew something was up, you don't call him junior that often.

"Yeah, mom what's up?" He smiles.

"Well, Chris asked me to be his girlfriend... And I just wanted to know if you were okay with that? If this is too soon I won't say yes." You said grabbing his hand. He looked up at a photo on a wall of you and his dad's wedding before back at you.

"Mom, I like Chris. He doesn't treat me or the boys like we're some other guy's kids." He began looking down. "It is strange knowing you like a new man but... I missed seeing you smile."

"I smiled all the time."

"Yeah but mom this one is brighter like the ones you'd get when dad would come home or when you'd see a cute puppy. Like you were already happy but you're happier now." You chuckled.

"So you're okay?"

"Yeah. Besides, maybe he'll introduce me to RDJ or Chris Hemsworth! Or Scarlett Johansson." He says happily.

You were going to pick up Connor from his sleepover. You thought this would be a good time to talk to him about Chris. A part of you felt crazy to give the power of your relationship to three kids but the other part knew that this would affect them just as much if not more than it affects you.

"Hello!" The door opened.

"Hey Mike." You smiled at the dad. "Is Connor ready to go?"

"Yep! Boys! Connor's mom is here!" He lets you in. The house was beautiful.

"Hey, mom!" Connor came into the room smiling. "They have VR! It's awesome."

Once in the car you peaked back at the back seat through the mirror. He was holding his backpack as he looked out the mirror.

"So baby what do you think about Chris?" You asked him letting your eyes go back to the road.

"He's nice! He said we could use his pool this summer! And he picked me and jave up from the bus stop last week with Caspian!" You were confused they hadn't told you about that.

You were most nervous to tell Jace. You knew he was having the hardest time with this, he was still being bullied at school because the teachers did nothing. The only way he knew to stand up for himself is brute force but you and his dad always told him not to start a fight, just to end a fight. As in don't throw the first punch but do throw the last. So it's considered self-defense. Instead he does his best to avoid them though that doesn't work and you've complained to the school multiple times so has Jace. Anyway, you knew with the bullying and everything he probably would not like to hear this question, that's why you were asking him last.

"Jace I have an important question for you." You said as he sat down on the couch.

"What is it?" He asks.

"Well Chris asked me to be his girlfriend and I just wanted to know if you would be alright with it? I want you and your brothers to be comfortable with any relationships I may have." You explained looking at him nervously.

"Yeah mom." Jace said softly. "He's nice, and you like him so I don't care... Just as long as he never tries to replace dad."

"No one could ever replace your dad. No one I promise you that buddy."

"Okay." Jace smiles, "Mom what was dad like? I mean I remember him but... I don't remember him super well."

"Well, there's so much I could tell you, like how you look just like him, with freckles and messy black hair, your smile even matches his. He was the bravest man I ever met."

"He was tall, he used to put you on his shoulders so you could watch my football games." Caspian explained as he walked into the living room, having heard the conversation.

UnOrdinary Chapter 194 Review

-Blyke and Sera is an unappreciated friendship and I hope more people start to recognize it. Also Sera and Blyke are clearly working hard for the Safe House, what was that about nobody caring John?

-Some people might liken this to the author saying “Don’t like it, don’t read” but I think there’s a different message being put out. This is just a simple club at school that is not a forced attendance and does not interfere with anything. Similarly UnOrdinary is one of many Webtoons on the platform. You may not like the changes in the story and you can give constructive criticism, but no one is putting a gun to your head or shoving it in your throat. If you don’t like the events happening then stop supporting the series like a normal person instead of trying to bully the author into trying to write what you want.

-I like how despite Sera brushing off his name and not letting him control her, she still has some reaction. You can’t get over an abusive relationship so easily no matter how hard you try. It’s a shitty thing but the fact that Sera’s putting in the effort to better her life shows she’s on the path to recovery

-I really enjoy Sera’s fight scenes. She’s gotten a lot stronger, dare I say stronger than cripple John was. Though I probably just say that cause I prefer smart and resourceful fighters rather than brute strength

-Some may say this line is hypocritical of Sera but instead I think it shows how she’s trying to break free. Things we get used to from a young age are hard to break free from. Before, Sera used to put all her worth in her strength until she had it stolen from her. So now that she finally gets a drop of the strength she had back then, it becomes tempting. A missed touched being given or finally quenching a parched throat. John went back to his old ways when he got that drop but Sera shows reluctance in her feelings. It feels good to her, but is it good? She’s growing and becoming more and more aware of the strength high tiers have and how it can mess with their heads.

-Zeke really just continues being the worst doesn’t he?

-I guess Zeke wished he was in defensive form at that moment. Sera ruined any chance of Zeke passing his blood on (assuming any girl would actually want to be with him)

-Sera’s so fucking badass. Even after being punched in the stomach and sent flying into a wall by Zeke she can still move and perform feats like this. Though it’s probably just the adrenaline in her body pumping to get her out of the situation

-Blyke would have been the first person to throw tea into the Boston harbor.

-John’s going to be fucking himself for the rest of his life if he continues acting like this. Also we’re getting Blyke vs Zeke now. Blyke was already stronger than Zeke so it won’t be a feat if he defeats him, but I think the way and the speed he does it will be important.

           icb  u  made  it  this  far  and  if  u  did  so  without  skimming  ?  u  a  real  one  😩✊🏽  sksksk  so  real  TALK  ,  caine  is  the  literal  worst  so  pls  dont  hesitate  to  make  him  the  villain  in  any  plot  u  so  desire  .  he’s  intelligent  but  not  to  an  excess  ,  but  is  incredibly  business  savvy  ,  knowing  an  opportunity  when  he  sees  one  and  fucking  POUNCING  on  it  .  this  plays  off  his  INCREDIBLE  fucking  manipulation  skills  ,  the  man  will  see  an  in  and  exploit  it  to  no  end  in  a  way  thats  ?  equal  parts  terrifying  and  lowkey  impressive  ?  side  note  he  takes  everything  seriously  ,  esp  himself  and  his  daughter  ,  and  isn’t  abt  to  let  any  idiot  drive  his  empire  into  the  ground  .  the  man  is  genuinely  convinced  he  can  take  over  the  world  at  this  point  ,  w  papa  legba  fueling  his  lil  psycho  ass  ,  and  is  gonna  probably  stop  at  nothing  until  he’s  reached  his  peak  .  he’s  destructive  and  has  absolutely  caused  a  fourth  his  staff  to  quit  with  his  office  meltdowns  where  he  goes  the  FUCK  off  but  ppl  can’t  say  he  doesn’t  have  an  incredible  vision  and  a  cutthroat  determination  to  accomplish  it  .  he’s  in  that  weird  sweet  spot  where  he’s  obnoxious  and  arrogant  as  shit  bc  he  knows  he’s  a  big  ole  successful  pretty  boy  that  ppl  want  to  please  but  he  also  has  that  classic  ‘  i  grew  up  rich  ‘  disposition  that  means  he  knows  when  to  fake  it  ?  (  on  that  note  ,  he’d  make  a  PHENOMENAL  fake  bf  👀  for  the  clout  )    also  an  awful  boyfriend  ,  has  prob  cheated  on  every  person  he’s  ever  dated  and  def  cheated  on  his  baby  mama  but  makes  it  a  point  to  be  an  incredible  dad  to  his  kid  bc  she’s  the  only  tie  to  his  humanity  /  soft  side  he  really  lets  influence  him  .  his  defining  features  are  his  absolute  narcissism  and  volatile  desire  to  be  the  absolute  best  at  what  he  does  ,  as  well  as  a  laser  focus  that  doubles  as  one  of  his  greatest  points  of  admiration  .   he’s  ABSOLUTELY  a  tool  but  to  his  credit  he  can  be  deeply  intimidating  ,  i  imagine  he’s  one  of  those  guys  with  just  incredibly  strong  eye  contact  to  the  point  it  freaks  ppl  out  and  that  reaction  always  makes  him  LAUGH  .
